☘️ St. Patrick's Day means it's time for:

The Wearin' O' The Green! 💚

...which entails grabbing every scrap of verdant attire and furniture in my game closets and trying to make it all fit. And making the difficult choice between green hair or an Irish redhead.

MidCin is probably my favorite because the wallpaper has four-leafed clovers on it! 🍀

I didn't include Ikemen Revolution because I worked way too hard on getting my Blanc decorations placement juuust right, to mess it up for a short holiday (and there's no 'saved outfit' settings in there like we have in IkeVamp and IkePrince, so it's not easy to reset everything back to a previous arrangement).

Ikemen Vampire has barely anything for green stuff, so I didn't even take the time to remove my Comte/Sebas chibi border. Also: no real ginger or red hair option. A very disappointing closet as far as Irish options go. 😕

MIDNIGHT CINDERELLA MEMORIAL POST

The Midnight Cinderella app will be closed on Monday August 26th, 2024 (5 PM JST). The English version was actively updated from 2014 to 2021 when Cybird announced the ceasing of operations for MidCin, but the app remained accessible until today. I'm sure I'm not the only one who mourns the loss of it even after all these years of discontinuation, so I wanted to put together a post to properly say goodbye to it. Trying my best not to make it all too sappy - I'd rather look at it as a show that reached its final episode. Some things might be left unresolved but in the end, you remember the cast and the emotions they made you feel more than the actual plot. Nowadays there arguably may be better titles by Cybird out there, but for me, the simplicity of MidCin was what made the details so memorable.

1. VIDEO - POV: You're playing Midnight Cinderella (for 10 minutes)

The 10-minute version (without sound) is accessible via the link above (opens in Google Docs) This one I was really excited about recording! It's just your normal day playing midcin, I'm sure many will find it nostalgic and comforting. You log in, claim your daily bonus (I used the chance to do a present box reveal, 90+ items, many of which you might recognize from route grace checks), play the garden gacha (in my case, I used up all the points I had accumulated, 7800 which equals 39 solos), do your princess lessons, change your avatar, greet your friends, read 1/5 of today's free story parts, check the ranking and your stats, look at your memories directory. The video has no sound, as the game wouldn't let me turn it on (you will see me try to do so throughout the video...) but later on I got it to work so I recorded a one-minute video (the one imported above) of me replenishing stamina just for those iconic sound effects that you either loved or absolutely couldn't stand the volume of, haha.

2. A Midnight Cinderella playlist (spotify link)

While I wasn't there for the early days of midcin, the songs I associated with the game almost always captured this very specifically nostalgic 90s-10s period, you'll see what I mean. Many of those are taken from 8track playlists dedicated to Midnight Cinderella, and if I'm not mistaken you can still look at what is left of them if you search them up. Others are just my very random interpretations of the route stories and the characters.

3. Fic recommendations

We have a lovely community of creatives and there are still so many works left behind which you can check out on the tags! But especially for fics I wanted to list some that truly touched me during the years (all links open in ao3) -

i'm on fire and its NSFW bonus scene bloodstream by a deleted user - words are not enough for this one. It's like it meant more than Nico's whole route for me at one point, and the songs are forever in my heart as Nico songs...

MidCin Works by DBMidCin (SoftSen) - ALL of these. This is my go-to collection of writings for midcin when I start to miss the game, it has a little bit of everything. The headcanon of Giles teaching his girls French for instance is one of the things I still remember reading like it was yesterday!

Bedroom Etiquette (NSFW) by RubyLeeRay - Because this is the dream. Doing something forbidden with your tutor Giles is the ultimate fantasy, I swear. I just love it.

And of course, many, many more. There are currently 166 works on the midcin tag in Ao3, and I'm sure there are a lot of hidden gems here on tumblr as well! Reminder that writers LOVE it when you interact with their old works, it's not weird, you shouldn't hesitate doing so if you find yourself enjoying any of them! <3

6. The perfect MidCin song - The Moon Will Sing by The Crane Wives

When I first discovered this song back in 2020 I dreamed of making it into a midcin music video with simplistic art and animations... It ended up being just something you daydream in detail about while in the car, but that's alright. I could at least share my vision with you! Disclaimer, this is just an interpretation and obviously it can't fit all characters ideally - In the brackets, I explain how the lyric is related to them and usually it reveals their backstories. Some of the details I've already forgotten, sorry if it's inaccurate.)

7. It goes on

I went to read what I could of chapter 4 of Rayvis' route, using my last two chapter tickets as well, thinking it won't make me cry. And then I'm hit with those familiar things.

So let's close this with a word about the things that never change in the universe of Midnight Cinderella.

Stumbling down the grand staircase and right into the arms of somebody. Escaping the palace at midnight with Nico's help. Sitting at breakfast with Giles giving you your schedule for the day. Nico's teasing little smile as he accompanies you everywhere and listens to your relationship troubles. The way he's just a little suspicious at times. Finding Robert painting in the garden of Wysteria palace. Going to the room of your chosen suitor for the first time and meeting a pet there. Leo teaching you history and politics in his office. Dance lessons with Louis. Needing those dance lessons because King Byron is coming to Wysteria and a ball is going to take place. The bureaucrats being unhappy with you as a princess elect, no matter what. Galloping on a horse with Alyn who just protected you from an enemy attack. Getting information from a certain flirty merchant at a bar. Albert bickering with Nico, Sid teasing Louis. Being introduced to Archduke Herneit at Stein castle. King Byron appreciating the night sky. The sight of your yellow and orange princess elect room where on the large bed with its blue bedframe and tall see-through canopy you lie awake and think about the events of the day and how would a wise future Queen of Wysteria deal with the current situation. But ultimately you fall asleep, hearing the melancholically beautiful sounds of a violin coming from somewhere deep within your dream, and leave it all to the following day.

Notes: •Born in London, England to a Hispanic father (came from what would be known as Mexico) and English mother. Her father attended and graduated from the Royal Veterinary College and met her mother in the city during his studies. She was raised in a loving, but sometimes crazy environment due to the family’s line of work. •Family has their own veterinary business, with her father being the head veterinarian and her mother being his assistant (Xochitl also assists). They also run their own animal shelter that Xochitl is mainly in charge of. •Her curse first appeared when she was a child during a moment where she encountered (what seemed like at the time) a very aggressive dog. She was able to communicate with them and managed to calm them down enough to find out that they were actually really frightened and she ended up rescuing them from an unsafe situation. Her family ended up taking in the dog and has lived a much better life since. Now that the dog is elderly, they currently reside in her parent’s home full time, with lots of visits and cuddles from Xochitl. •Her personality is outgoing, level-headed (for the most part), and kind. She’s always willing to lend a helping hand to others. Even before her curse appeared, she loved all animals and was always good with them since they were drawn to her gentle nature. She will not tolerate any kind of rude or cruel behavior and will not hesitate to call people out on it. •She's short, but strong for her stature, especially due to all the running and heavy lifting for her work. •Due to her skill, a lot of people, especially the nobility, tend to seek her out to find out what’s going on with their pets (though none of them know that she can literally understand them). Because she does such a good job, as a token of their gratitude they end up being some of the biggest donors to her family's animal shelter. •Has her own dog, a Jack Russell Terrier named Adriana •Paired with Roger (more info about their relationship will be added later on)

Extra Notes: she’s still a work in progress since IkeVil is still very new, but as time goes on I plan to add more info. Outfit in the photo is kind of what I envisioned her wearing (I did alter the colors a bit), just with a longer skirt. I also technically have other IkeVil OCs in the works, including my MC/Kate stand-in, just that the brainrot for Roger has been so strong lately due to JP event translations (thank you for the food) and what I've read so far in EN about him from events and pieces from the current available routes. Also I have tried my best to be as accurate as I can be with certain information for the time period. I also just wanted to add a little bit of my culture in her.

-Like Maddie and Abby before her, Clara was originally inspired by avatar items I received in game and, when put together, I saw her as her own character.

-Before becoming Belle, like IkePri's original MC, she worked in a bookstore in Rhodolite for Mr. Akatsuki, her father-figure that took her in when she was a young girl. She is an only child and her biological parents have been MIA for years, seemingly to have left their daughter permanently in Mr. Akatsuki's care.

-Avid reader of romance books (her favorite being the Midnight Cinderella series), she often dreams of having romantic escapades, but then remembers that she's just a bookstore clerk and this is reality, that kind of stuff doesn't happen to ordinary people like her.

-She had thought she was going to get her romantic escapade of her dreams when Rio came into her life, but seeing a certain ring in his possession, plus his nobleman's coat and sword crest, she dampens her hopes. He likely has someone at home waiting for him, she thinks, so she keeps a distance between them, despite his obviously growing feelings for her. She tries to play off his declarations with a laugh and a playful shove, but she still feels a prick of guilt when she remembers the ring.

-Then, one day, Sariel shows up and brings her to the palace to become the next Belle, a person that chooses Rhodolite's next king. And she also catches the eye of a certain fox-like prince: The Seventh Rhodolitian Prince, Nokto Klein.

-To keep suspicions low about her being Belle, Nokto takes her in as his fake fiancée, using all the tricks up his sleeve to keep her identity secret. The only problem was that Nokto… is a sleazy playboy. He always had a lie ready on his tongue and was often pulling Clara into situations that, while it was in the name of keeping her real identity secret, she was often out of her depth or was clearly uncomfortable with Nokto's flirting.

-But, since she had been given the momentous task of choosing the next king of her country, she didn't want to give up and did her best to fairly judge the princes, finding more and more hidden meaning between Nokto's actions, seeing that they weren't as originally self-serving as they appeared to be.

-They reached a turning point one night when Clara agreed to read to him every night. He needed a hiding place and she only agreed to that if he wouldn't do anything.. Untoward towards her (again, like the first time they met). He agreed in desperation, but soon grows bored. He sees her curled up with a book in her lap and asks what she's reading. Since she's still wary of him, she gives a bare bones summary, at first. Nokto, not wanting to waste the opportunity to make up for messing with her, asked some leading questions, accidently activating her special interest button (since she had been reading a MidCin series book and MidCin is her special interest), making her talk at length about it.  When she realizes that she had been talking at length about a romance book, an especially embarrassingly long time too, she stops and curls back into her chair, and apologizes for taking up his time.

-Though Nokto wasn't especially interested in the content of the series, he saw how her eyes lit up and how passionate she was when she was talking about something she loved. Something about this unabashed honesty and love struck something in him. He liked her honesty, something he never believed he could be.

-He finally opens up to her after a hunting incident gone wrong, where he froze and she and his brothers had to stand up for and save him, something he didn't feel worthy of receiving. She was the sun in his life and he couldn't even come up with some clever way to save her, she had to do it herself, and that upset him. That he failed in helping his loved ones, again.

-This is the point where the story follows the Romantic Route, where Nokto gets his chance to shine and make Rhodolite prosperous, that he is a worthy prince and king capable of protecting the things most important to him. Nokto finds her again in the old bookstore, Clause 99 no longer a problem for either of them and invites her to his coronation party… and -their- engagement party.

-At some point, after she's officially engaged to Nokto, she takes Rio aside to give him back his belongings and apologizes that she's kept them from him all this time and that she's always appreciated his friendship. She's brought to tears, however, when he tosses the items aside and hugs her tightly. "You matter more to me than my lost memories." he told her, "so, if it's okay with you, I'll stick around as long as you want me to." And he remains loyal to her to the end of their days, though he never steps foot in Benitoite again, even when offered a vacation there. And Clara, remembering the crest on his sword she returned to him, always respects his wishes of not wanting to go.

-Matters in her later life (Act 3 stuff not taken into account as of this posting, but will make an update once his sequel comes to English): Gets married to Nokto and gains the title of Queen Consort. In the matters of children (as a king needs heirs, after all) it's still up in the air for me, personally. The idea of twins is delicious and angsty but that is a big sore spot for him and Licht, let alone the idea of being a dad in general, and especially the previous King not being a great role model. Still up for debate at the current time. Adoption is also an option.

-As for another matter to consider: her biological parents. In the WIP Wednesday 'Father' prompt for her, Clara's parents left her in the care of Mr. Akatsuki when she was a young girl. When word gets about the king's engagement, would they come out of the woodwork when they find out it's their daughter that's marrying the king? Something to think about.

Some other fun facts

-She likes baking, bread specifically. She thinks cakes are a little too sweet so she prefers bread over it. She makes treat breads for special occasions, like birthdays and anniversaries.

-Other suitors for consideration: Rio, because duh. Another consideration was Jin, but I just liked her dynamic with Nokto better, if that makes sense?

-She's terrible with alcohol. She's a pouty drunk and will get jealous of just about anything. But then she turns into a sleepy drunk that clings like a koala to the nearest object.

-Clara's name means 'bright, clear', while her last name, Laurent, is meant to invoke laurels given to winning athletes in the Olympics of old, a nod to the fact that Clara is crowning the future king of Rhodolite with her clear and pure heart.

-Her favorite 'book' in the Midnight Cinderella series is 'Byron.' She likes his cool and collected nature and the alliance marriage aspect has always left her fascinated. After getting together with Nokto, however, she comes to appreciate 'Leo' as well with the many similarities between the character and Nokto.

Notes: •Born in London, England to a noble family. Her family’s estate is home to the biggest apple orchard in the country that’s been tended to for generations. While her family deals in investments and trading goods, they also donate a portion of what’s been harvested to local food charities. •She seems sweet and innocent at first glance, but actually has a wicked side to her. She’s not mean for no reason, but a venomous part of her comes out whenever she encounters someone or something unpleasant. •Her curse first appeared when she was an adolescent while at a ball. A nobleman, who had a reputation for going after (and harassing) women, tried putting his hands on her. She couldn’t act out due to the people surrounding them, but once out of sight she tried fighting as much as she could before he could completely drag her out. During the struggle, she dug her nails into his arm and noticed that the man started loosening his hold on her. Confused, but not one to waste an opportunity, she pried him off of her just in time to see him collapse onto the floor. When she checked closely, she noticed that his lips were blue, his skin was pale, and was unresponsive when she nudged him with her foot. That’s when she realized that she somehow killed him and in a panic, she ran back inside the ballroom to her parents. Surprisingly when his body was eventually discovered, no one suspected it was her, even though she was the last one visibly with him, thanks to her gentle-seeming nature. •She eventually discovered that she was “cursed” thanks to a coincidence. After the ball incident, she went to do some research in her family estate’s library when she happened to come across some old books tucked away in a corner. Upon closer inspection, she realized that they were diaries written by her late maternal grandmother where she talked about similar instances of what she had just gone through herself. After reading more of the entries and seeing her grandmother talk about being “cursed”, she realized that her grandmother had the curse of the poison apple and now she had it too. She took those diaries for herself and they’re now hidden in her room where she frequently goes over them to discover more of her curse and her potential dark fate. No one in her family knows that she’s cursed and she’s hesitant to ask her mother if she ever knew about her grandmother’s affliction. •She decided that since she has this ability due to the curse that she should use it for good. Whenever she goes to social events and spots or hears about someone with nefarious ideals or actions, she targets them and discreetly takes them out, using sweet words and alluring them with her beauty. People are left dumbfounded as to how these people get poisoned, yet no one can seem to trace it back to her. A pleasant side-effect due to this is that some events have become much safer, especially for the women since some people have become terrified to try anything. These were also the times where she began testing out her ability and found out timing, effectiveness, and how to activate and deactivate it so that she didn’t end up poisoning someone by accident just from physical contact. •Ever since she learned about her curse, she began studying toxicology to understand the adverse effects of poisons and how she could apply that knowledge to her ability. •Paired with Elbert. They are in the same social circles; she knows about him and what he looks like, but not vise-versa. They didn’t really come across each other until one fateful event. He was on a Crown mission to take someone out, but she unknowingly beat him to the punch and ended up immediately catching his eye. This incident also caused her to be recruited by Victor into Crown where they now interact on the daily and sometimes get paired off for missions. She does think Elbert is beautiful inside and out, but she is a bit wary of how intense he can sometimes be with her (prior to the relationship).

Also, didn't I showed up the Halloween set and the frame? That's such a pity then!
