Journal Entry: The Island Shifts
Midas jots down some thoughts on the changes
The island has changed again. I think there were a number of us who felt a shift coming. I'm glad I had taken the yacht further off shore before it happened. As well I am glad Valeria agreed to come with me. I know it was not easy for her to leave. Her railway station was already gone, but Glacier still stood. She was already there when I had called her, gathering a few items of sentiment and just...saying goodbye, I'm sure.
Walking away from anything you hold dear for the last time is incredibly difficult. She seems to be handling the change well enough, though I am not surprised by this.
Deadpool Wade was here as well. At least, I know he was towards the start. The man has a habit of popping in and out of my peripheral vision. However, I haven't seen him on board since the change. He probably made a quick exit to look around himself.
A guest I am less happy for, but nonetheless resigned to accept, is Kado. I extended a "hand" (bastard) to him as a courtesy to Valeria. We have not spoken since our altercation. When he attacked me for making a joke or two at his expense when some "unimportant" documents of his got leaked out. Unimportant enough to try and kill me over, evidently. Regardless, he joined on the yacht as well to wait everything out.
He's been tense the whole time, on edge as he watches the skies closely. For what specifically, I have no clue.
At one point there had been a number of those rift butterflies that had come down to the boat. Many of which seemed keen on Val, landing on her shoulders and hands. It was nice to see her smile at them. Nice, too, to see a few flutter into Kado's eyes as he was swatting and hissing.
Anyway, an island I know all too well is back. Everything here feels so painfully nostalgic. This island was home to me in many ways, but it's very different than it was before.
The Agency is back, but it's clearly not the one I knew. It's someone else's. All the hard work of my past sitting in the middle of the island, a monolith to my failures covered in tacky dogs and flourishes as if to mock me personally. The Zero Point sure does have a funny way of making me feel that way.
That's not even to mention the other version of me that's here now. This...Meowscles/Me creature. I simply cannot spend too much time thinking about him before I get a headache. I'll just keep my own yacht moored by Sweaty Sands, away from his for now.
I will make contact, I don't doubt that we'd have enough to talk about to get along. I just...I don't think I need to explain why a version of me that is also my feline friend is a tad uncomfortable.
Regardless, the island I know best is back in a strange way. Not the change I expected in the least, but it is what it is.
The Underworld being gone (hopefully returned to its rightful plain of existence), is a monumental weight off my chest. Hades already owes me for dealing with Mephisto and returning his rule to him, but it is an extra boone to not have to see my own personal hell sitting in the distance.
I expected the souls that speak to me in my vulnerable moments to have left with it, but they remain. They stubbornly cling to me like glue. I imagine they'll be with me forever. At least they still grant me the shade step.
Perhaps with Mizuki's offer for help, I'll learn to live in harmony with these voices, rather than merely tolerate. A quandary for another time. For now, I have much to learn about this island and it's differences.
My main concern is naturally what lies underneath the "Doggpound". I know it is no longer my building, but I can't imagine it isn't here for much the same purpose. If the same hubris befalls whoever is in charge...
I hope we can avoid another flood. Reminder: Unless discussed, these are not "public" to other Tumblrverse characters. Okay to reblog, but please do not roleplay on journal entries!

The First Moment Of Forever
A pre "Encino" short in which Michael and Althea first meet.
Note: It's been a while since I wrote a little blurb. I'm hoping this was successful in getting my creative juices flowing for a future "Encino" update. Also, we can't forget to wish our one and only King a happy heavenly birthday! 🎂
Link to original story: https://www.wattpad.com/story/291710565-encino-m-j
Althea's jaw could have dropped to the ground when the bus jerked to a stop. A halo of light caressed the tall, majestic building, causing the silver bricks to glitter like diamonds in the California sunlight.
She'd only ever seen pictures of the Jacksounds Records building in magazines. Never once had Althea dreamed she'd one day be standing in front of it, the idea she'd soon be setting foot in it was even wilder.
Her stomach churned with anxiety as she shuffled the bus, fellow passengers pushing past her as she stopped on the sidewalk to take in a deep breath.
Althea finally knew how Dorothy felt when she arrived in Emerald City to see the Wizard.
The Jacksounds internship was the most highly competitive and coveted internship Loyola Marymount had to offer its music students and Althea was over the moon when she discovered she'd been chosen as one of the five applicants to get the best musical education anyone could ask for.
Jacksounds had integrated black soul music into the mainstream in the ‘60s and '70s and crafted some of the greatest hits and biggest stars the country had seen. Joseph Jackson was the ebony Burt Bacharach, King Midas of R&B and Soul. Every melody he put his pen to turned to gold. He'd built his Empire with his bare hands and was now one of the first black millionaire CEOs.
Anyone would be stupid not to jump at the opportunity.
Things had been tough on Althea when she returned to classes after taking a leave of absence to care for her grandmother who'd sadly succumbed to her diabetic coma but for the first time in a while, she felt on top of things.
Things were finally looking up and she was bursting with optimism that even Mary Tyler Moore and her tam-o'-shanter hat couldn’t compete with.
The sales tag of the teal and maroon floral printed wrap dress she’d brought from the boutique she worked at scratched her back as she pushed through the building’s revolving glass doors. Althea knew she’d need to look as professional as possible for the internship but didn’t have the budget to keep any new clothes.
She’d stood the entire bus ride, hoping not to have spills throughout the day. The twenty-dollar dress would have to be returned as if she’d never worn it.
The lobby looked luxurious with marble floors, gold paneling, and cream furniture. Her eyes landed on the marquee boasting  Jacksounds suite and suddenly the imposter syndrome hit Althea. She was very much in the building that birthed the hits she’d danced in her living room to as a kid and a nagging voice in her head told her she didn’t belong.
Althea closed her eyes, taking another deep breath as she pressed the elevator button.
“Time to me make Granny proud,” she whispered to herself.
She resisted the urge to pick apart her appearance in the mirrored walls of the lift and instead, focused on tapping her foot to the jazzy rendition of “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” playing over the intercom. When the doors finally opened, Althea was nearly blinded by a gold record of a Miracles hit hanging proudly on the walls, a dozen more trailing behind, each from an iconic black artist.
The carpet was as red as the one at the Oscars, and she was almost afraid to imprint it with her pumps. A large, shiny mahogany desk was not far away, a hive of identical ones stretched the length of reception, each with a busy secretary perched behind it.
“Excuse me,” she spoke timidly as she approached the desk.
The gray wisp escaping the secretary’s bun and the antique pen necklace draped around her neck made Althea conclude she’d been working for Jacksounds for a long time. The chunky chocolate brown phone stayed glued to her ear with the support of her shoulder blade while her hands were occupied with a sharp nail file.
She hadn’t even bothered to acknowledge Althea’s presence.
“Excuse me,” She repeated, gently pressing her hands on the desk. “I’m an intern candidate. Could you show me where I’m supposed to report?”
The secretary stretched her hand out in front of her, inspecting the new oval shape of her nails as if  Althea had not uttered a word.
“I tried to tell her,” The woman spoke loudly into the receiver. “If he lied about his height, he’ll lie about anything else,”
The young woman sighed, trying not to grow frustrated. She nervously glanced around the room, hoping that anyone would recognize her distress but she only seemed invisible.
“Sure, the idea sounds a little far fetched but I know I can convince them to take us on,”
Michael rolled his eyes before fixing his gaze out the conference room window as his older brother Jermaine arrogantly droned on about the company’s latest potential business deal. He often found these weekly business meetings with their father pointless and insufferable. Jermaine always monopolized the conversation, and any input Michael had to offer was ignored or stolen by the older brother.
Joseph looked up from the document in front of him, his gaze falling to his distracted youngest son. Because he wanted his sons to stay abreast of the happenings in the family business, the CEO made an effort to include Michael.
The youngest Jackson was far more creative than he was business-minded and Joseph admittedly preferred Jermaine’s gift of strategic business modeling than Michael’s talent and ear for music production. He'd trained the older son well and Joseph knew when his time on earth was up, the Jacksounds legacy would live on with Jermaine in charge.
“Michael, do you have anything to add?”  He asked.
The aforementioned son tore his gaze away from the view of the busy Encino street, his shapely brows furrowing in confusion.
“Since when do we care what I think?” Michael questions sardonically while folding his arms. “Erms never lets anybody get in a word edgewise. Besides, that was my idea all along and he takes it and runs with it,”
The elder Jackson brother leaned back in the plush leather chair with a facetious grin
“You pitched it but I perfected it,” Jermaine bragged.
Michael rolled his eyes.
“Shut up, Erms. You're not so original,” He scoffed and turned to Joseph. “Do I have to be here, anymore? This is a waste of my time,”
Jermaine chuckled.
“It's not like you've got much to do,”
The younger brother pushed himself from the glossy mahogany table, jaw clenched in anger.
“You're about to give me somethin’ to do alright,” Michael warned.
Joseph sighed heavily, too tired to endure his sons’ constant rivalry.
“That’s enough. Let's adjourn. Jermaine, give me an update on this by Wednesday,”
The older brother clicked his gold embossed pen close.
“Sure thing, Joseph,”
Deeply agitated, Michael stormed out of the conference room. Sometimes, he didn’t even know why he even bothered showing up at Jacksounds every day. He could easily live off his trust fund and spend his days trotting around the globe with a beautiful woman on each arm but Michael wanted something more fulfilling.
Since a young child, he'd had a deep passion for music. While he'd never fully mastered an instrument, Michael was a savant at weaving sounds together. When he wasn’t perched behind the soundboard, he'd been sitting in on Joseph's meeting since he was fifteen and had trained himself to identify the qualities that created a bonafide star.
Michael was just as capable and charismatic as Jermaine but Joseph had already decided which son would someday reign as CEO.
“Hey, little brother,” Jermaine spoke, rushing to his brother's side to gloat. “Don't be so sore,”
Michael rolled his eyes and stuffed his hands in his jeans pockets.
“Stay away from me, Jermaine,” He warned.
Jermaine chuckled.
“Don't be silly, Mike. That kind of stuff is for executives. I mean, you have no idea how much pressure I'm under. Joseph's gettin up there in age and I've been taking the load off his back carrying this company by myself,”
The younger Jackson rolled his eyes as they entered the lobby. Michael stopped at the water cooler chuckling to himself. Sometimes, he couldn’t believe just how inflated Jermaine’s ego was.
“You really believe your own shit, don't cha?”
He snatched up a paper cup, his eyes wandering briefly around the office. They stopped briefly at his secretary’s desk before Michael’s gaze caught sight of something far more interesting.
There at the front desk stood the most beautiful girl he'd ever seen.
Her skin was the color of silky, sweet caramel, her frame small but shapely, boasting delicate, deep curves, and a tiny waist held up by spectacular legs. The young woman's face held an agitated pout but was exquisitely sculpted with gorgeous cheekbones and darling brown eyes. Her hair had been piled into big soft curls, the fluorescent lights seemed to cast an angelic glow over her head.
A rush of awe and allure quickened Michael’s pulse like a zap of lightning.  He'd seen plenty of beautiful women in Encino but no woman had ever stunned him the way this one had.
She was a literal knockout in looks but there was also something so magnetic about her presence in the room. Suddenly, Michael wanted to know any and everything about her.
In a bit of a daze, he shoved the paper cup in Jermaine's hand before slowly making his way across the room.
Althea anxiously tapped her foot, an impatient sigh escaping her. From the corner of her eye, she could see a figure approaching.  She first noticed the dazzling white smile when she turned her attention. Althea had to take in a breath, suddenly feeling overwhelmed at the sight of the handsome young man coming toward her.
His walk was smooth as butter, natural and relaxed yet oozing masculine energy. His spanku eyes were large and enchanting- the kind you can hardly look away from- and Althea truly couldn’t decide whether she adored his eyes or his smile more. The beauty of his face could only be described as being caringly whittled by the gods.
Althea never believed in love at first sight but the chorus of bells and banjos was deafening.
The ball of anxiety sitting on her chest had been relieved thanks to the smile. That smile made her feel safe like nothing could ever go wrong.
“You look a little lost. Can I help you find your way?”
Althea turned her eyes away from the lean muscles peeking beneath his collared Lacoste shirt and chuckled nervously.
“I'm an intern,” She grinned, batting her eyelashes. “I don't know where I'm supposed to report and she's a little tied up at the moment,”
She jerked her head in the direction of the distracted receptionist. Michael shook his head in disappointment.
“She's deaf in one ear and she's always got the good one glued to the phone,” He tutted.
His slender frame leaned over the desk, his perfectly coiffed jheri curl glistening under the office lights. Michael’s slender finger firmly tapped the rude woman, cutting her gregarious laughter short. She set down the phone with a small huff.
“Gladys,” He smiled passive-aggressively. “Could you help this young lady by telling her where to report?”
“Name, honey?”
Althea flashed the young man a gracious smile.
“Thomas. Althea Thomas,”
Gladys swiveled her chair in the direction of a stack of manilla folders and quickly thumbed through them before she found the matching name.
“Production conference room in the West hall,” the secretary answered dryly, extending the folder to the young woman.
Michael straightened himself from his leaning position against the desk.
“Thank you, Gladys,” he turned to Althea. “C'mon, I'll take you there,”
She let out a heavy sigh of relief. It felt so nice to be acknowledged.
“Thank you so much,” she giggled. “I feel much better now. I didn't catch your name,”
“Michael,” he flashed that breathtaking smile again. “Michael Jackson,”
He extended his large, svelte hand and Althea felt her heart race when they touched. It was a warm, zippy feeling- like static shock without the pain.
“You wouldn't happen to be related to Joseph Jackson, would you?” She questioned while following his lead.
“Sometimes I wish I wasn't but there are perks to bein’ his kid,”  Michael shrugged.
Althea felt a sense of disappointment. Sure, Michael was gorgeous and nice but she couldn't risk getting involved with the CEO's son. She didn’t need a silly crush getting in the way of her education and surely there was some rule against it. It was better to keep her head down and forget the idea altogether.
“Piano,” He grinned over his shoulder.
Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
“I beg your pardon?”
“Piano. That's what you play right?”
Althea giggled bashfully as she extended her fingers to inspect her cherry red nail polish.
“How'd you know?”
“It's your hands,” Michael grinned, proud of himself.  “Piano players always have the prettiest hands,”
She hugged the folder to her chest, a blush creeping across her cheeks.
“I'm classically trained but I don’t think I'll have much of a career as a concert pianist. Besides, I like funk music too much,”
Althea giggled and he couldn’t help but instantly love the sound of her laugh. Michael quirked a brow.
“Who’s your favorite?”
Her doll eyes lit up, a bashful grin stretching across her lips.
“I’m just crazy about Rick James,”
He chuckled.
They’d only met a few minutes ago but Michael was willing to buy her every Rick James album ever printed if he knew it would make her happy. They’d stopped in front of the production room and he felt disappointed knowing their conversation had to end.
“Well, here it is,” Michael announced.
Althea smiled adoringly at the handsome young man who’d come to her rescue.
“Thank you, Michael,”
He folded his arms behind his back and grinned, bowing slightly.
“It was my pleasure, Althea. If you need anything at all, don’t hesitate to ask me,”
“I won’t,”
They’d both wanted the moment to last forever but both Michael and Althea knew this wasn’t the last they’d see of each other.

Hi fellow INFJ 🙋I appreciate your engagement on my posts. Thanks. Just getting to know you a bit through this ask game :)
Tumblr media
Hi!!
In no particular order! Just songs that I really enjoy and wish I could add more haha! I couldn’t not include one of my fav French songs as I’m gaining fluency in the language :)
I love sharing my favorite songs so I hope you’ll give them a listen if you haven’t already heard some of them, I tried to pick songs I listen to that I’m usually the only one in my friend group who does obviously I am a fan of more popular artists as well but I didn’t want to include Taylor, Hozier, Ariana Grande and Lana in this list hahah!
- I know I don’t post very much on here! But I try to be ‘human sunlight’ in my real life which I know isn’t always the vibe INFJ give off and a lot of people are surprised to know I’m more introverted than extrovert (I am very close to 50/50 to be fair) / my friends also call me an ambivert as well! But I hope that that can be reflected on my feed!
Enjoy!!
- If you haven’t listened to any of her songs before Lolo Zouaï is one of my favorite artists and I wish I could have put more songs on there by her but I limited myself to just one! I love her new album Pl4yg1rl (playgirl) specifically the songs VHS and picking berries and Room!! But all are so good! Amelia Moore is also incredible!! Teaching a robot to love is an amazing album as well!
<3
- If you don’t know French you can look up a translation to the song but démons is a translation for demon (obvious I know) but it’s a metaphor to her anxiety and depression the chorus can be translated to ‘how can I fight my demons’ more accurately translated to how can I kill my demons. I really like the message and how they both share their struggles and it even got my sister who hates French songs to listen to it and like it hahah!
<3
- Another note to @boundlessfantasy !! I really enjoy your posts and so im happy to participate! I hope this helped learn a bit more!! I hope you enjoy the songs and artists!! Happy to help a fellow INFJ 🫡! :)

Tom Clancy Shadow State by M P Woodward
Tom Clancy Shadow State
Jack Ryan Jr. Book 12
M. P. Woodward
G. P. Putnam’s Sons
August 20th, 2024
Tom Clancy’s Shadow State by M. P. Woodward delves into the world of Jack Ryan Jr. The author, a former naval intelligence officer with the US Pacific Command blends his personal experiences within the plot line. The thread involves industrial espionage and a connection to American defense technologies.
Woodward has taken over writing the Jack Ryan Jr. Series.  “After this book there will a second book coming out in seven months. The next book is titled Line of Demarcation where the characters go to battle against a strong Wolper Organization, the Russian mercenary group. I am currently working on one more, maybe two or three more. I do consult with the authors Brian Andrews and Jeff Wilson, who wrote Act of Defiance, of the Jack Ryan Sr universe, to collaborate and to keep things current.”
The plot has the setting of Vietnam because of its vibrant economy that lures Western capital. Companies are racing to uncover ideal opportunities. Not wanting to be left behind, Hendley Associates has sent their best analyst, Jack Ryan, Jr., to mine for investment gold. And he may have found some in a rare earth mining company—GeoTech. Henley and Associates is a financial trading institution founded by Gerry Hendley. The company itself is a front for the Campus, the off-the-books private security firm for which Jack is the lead operator. GeoTech is a rare earth mining company that operates primarily out of the Vietnamese highlands.
“I think every Tom Clancy book should tell something of a national security story. In this case, I highlighted American dependence on Chinese mineral refining and their industrial espionage.”
Jack Jr. is invited to take a helicopter tour to observe the company’s operations.  But some want to eliminate him, and the helicopter is shot down over the Vietnam jungle. Now Jack is in a race for his life. He’s got to stay one step ahead of a pack of killers while supporting his wounded friend. Jack Jr. must fight a savage Vietnamese gang that rules the jungles and is involved in a human trafficking operation.
“I set it in VN because many people think it is a good place to redirect supply chain resources. Bad countries are using bad people to get things done. It is titled Shadow State because things are done through gangs. I highlighted how the Chinese used a gang in the Golden Triangle called the Snakeheads, who are active in narcotics and sex-trafficking.”
One character that was introduced, which readers will look forward to seeing more of is Master Chief Moore.  “John Clark, the Campus Director of Operations, is the one who represents the Navy SEALs throughout the series. But he is getting old, so I wanted to bring in another senior operator. He is a little bit damaged and feels the need to prove something. I put this quote in the book, ‘the problem is optics and the media.’ This refers to the blurry line about what is an acceptable military action versus not.  In the story, he had his Trident taken away and prosecuted in the press as a war criminal for killing a terrorist even though the terrorist was on the Air Force kill list. He did not get a fair shake because if a drone killed the terrorist nothing would have happened.”
Moore is both tactical and strategic. “One of the purposes Moore serves in this book is as a mentor.  In the series, I want him to be the one to continue John Clark’s legacy. He has been around the block, has seen it all, and I really wanted to bring a Navy character back into the story because many of the others, like Midas, are army guys.”
The plot mixes action, intrigue, and political drama by the author of the “Handler Series,” where there is another book in the works.

are you writing an original fiction book?!
well, trying to anyways! i haven’t the faintest idea how to go about such a thing, but i figure you’ve got to start with writing the books first, so that’s what i’m attempting to tackle as of right now.
the faint outline i have for the thing is that there’s two old hollywood actors, charles moore and ruby adelaide, who first rose to fame together in the mid 1930s - because instantly, even though neither of them did very well on their own, the world took to them as a pair in the first movie they did together. people liked watching them fall in love, and they liked falling in love. as the years go on, ruby and charlie get married, and they continue making a string of successful movies, apart and together. the studios love them. papers say they’ve got the midas touch. but, in 1950, charles does something that makes ruby stop speaking to him. the world isn’t sure what’s happened, only that these two stars aren’t pictured together anymore and won’t give statements about one another, and they live on separate sides on the country from each other. it’s based a lot on stuff i’ve read about cary grant and his wives, and this thing that one of them said about how she never knew what he was like in the 40 or so years he lived before her when they asked if he was bisexual. i liked that a lot, that idea that you can love so someone so throughly and they can be equipped with all the tools to hurt you just right, because they know you and love you, but there’s parts that you’ll never be sure about—years lived that you’re in the dark about.

Rapunzel, Rapunzel: lay down your hair so i can climb the golden stair!
These are the words to call the lady named after a vegetable, so one can climb her hair and visit the tower where she is kept prisoner. At the same time that she is known for her exotic name and very long hair, personality wise Rapunzel tends to get very underestimated. Some adaptations gaved her a pretty passive role, and pop culture parodies would usually paint her as “just a girl who cries for the Prince to save her”, downplaying the inteligence and resilience to adapt into harsh situations that she showed in the original Brothers Grimm’s tale. So today, i will share my twelve favorite portrayals of the long haired heroine, that showed respect to her, gaved her carisma and made justice to her strenghts.
12º The version from ‘The Story of Rapunzel’ (1951)
At the start of his career as a stop motion animator, Ray Harryhausen made, with the collaboration of his relatives, a series of shorts based on fairy tales. Those shorts were ‘The Mother Goose Stories’, ‘The Tortoise and The Hare’, ‘The Story of Rapunzel’, ‘The Story of Hansel and Gretel’, ‘The Story of Little Red Riding Hood’ and ‘The Story of King Midas’ (when this tale started to be taken out of greek mythology and be perceived as a medieval fairy tale in the public conscience), where the characters were silent and the voice was given to a narrator. This encarnation of Rapunzel is more on the naive and passive spectrum, but i like her design and the fact she is animated in stop motion, plus the short is historically significant for being one of the early atempts to adapt her tale , and that’s why she has a place on this ranking.
11º The version from Simsala Grimm (1999)
In this german-french, two plushies, Yoyo and Doc Croc, receive life from a magic book to have adventures inside the Brother’s Grimm tales. They go to the tale of Rapunzel and help her and Prince Egmond get together. This encarnation of Rapunzel is kept as both prisoner and apprentice of Frau Gothel, who wants to turn the young woman into a mean spirited sorceress like her. But Rapunzel can only make spells that create pretty and merry things, like squirrels and birds. It’s a nice touch of humour, and that grants her the Eleventh Place at this ranking.
10º Mackenzie Mauzy in Disney’s Into the Woods (2014)
This movie as a whole is a weak adaptation of the now classic Broadway stage musical. But it had some enjoyable elements, one of them being Mackenzie Mauzy’s performance as Rapunzel. Mauzy has a short time on screen, but in that short time she brings beauty, grace, melancholy and anger to the role, and this makes it stand out enough to be the Tenth Place in this ranking.
09º Linda Purl in Timeless Tales from Hallmark (1990-91)
Timeless Tales from Hallmark was a direct to video series that had a live action hosted by Olivia Newton John and animated segments showing the fairy tale of the day, animated by the Hannah-Barbera studio. Purl’s Rapunzel is the romantic dreamer archetype, who sings her wish to be free. She has two encounters with the Prince before getting caught by the Witch Scarlotta, having her hair cutted and exiled to the distant woods. She reunites with the Prince, who has been turned into a blue bird (i see what you did there, screenwriters), and breaks the spell over him with her tears. She should smell more onions to cry and bottle those tears, that can be very usefull.
08º Tisha Campbell in Happily Ever After: Fairy Tales for Every Child (1995)
In the bayous of Louisiana, Rapunzel is taken from her parents by Zenobia the Hoodoo Diva (played by Whoopi Goldberg, by the way), who seeks to make her a protege and shows her such neat tricks as voodoo dolls and shrinking her head down. Rapunzel is reluctant to do this when she sees Zenobia is hurting innocent creatures. Rapunzel soon attracts a handsome Creole prince, who must rescue Rapunzel and reunite her with her parents, but Zenobia seeks to thwart the interloper. One of the first african-american portrayals, this kind yet rebellious encarnation is a refreshing take on the character, and that is why she takes the Eight Place here.
07º Mandy Moore in Disney’s Tangled (2010)
After her mother dranked a tea made of a magical flower, Rapunzel was born with a magical hair that is able to heal any desease and rejuvenate anyone who touches it. Because of that, she was kidnapped and emprisoned in a Tower by Gothel, who raises Rapunzel to be insecure and afrayed of the outside world. But her curiosity is more powerfull, and with the guidance of a thief named Flinn Rider, the young lady escapes the Tower and goes on a journey to discover both what is scary and what is beautifull on the outside world with her own eyes, along the way captivating people with her merry and spontaneous personality, wich gives her the Seventh Place on this list.
06º Pamela Winslow Kashani in American Playhouse: Into the Woods (1991)
The lady who originated the role in the Broadway stage musical. Like Mackenzie Mauzy, Pamela Winslow Kashani brings the beauty, the grance, the melancholy and the anger to the role, but with an extra touch of energetic humour, taking advantage of the fact that she is in a stage show and getting intense as possible. That humour in the First Act  is what makes her PTSD and tragic death in the Second Act all the more heartbreaking. Plus, she probably has the most beautifull singing voice ever gaved to a Rapunzel encarnation, and sometimes that is enough to earn a place in my rankings.
05º Mitsuko Horie/Lara Cody in Grimm’s Fairy Tale Classics (1988-89)
This encarnation has a tragic backstory, having been forgotten by her parents after they received a memory spell from the Witch and they had three more kids after her. She is raised in the Tower as the Witch’s granddaughter, and develops a great talent to play the harp. Is the sound of that harp that attracts the atention of the Prince, who comes to the tower and conquers Rapunzel’s love. Sadly, when they are making plans on how to take her away from the Tower, the Witch sees the Prince climbing down, so she cuts Rapunzel’s hair and beats her till unconsciousness before exiling the poor young woman in the desert, where she learns to survive while raising the son that she conceived with the Prince, who searches for Rapunzel despite being blinded by thorns.
04º Luisa Wietzorek in Sechs Auf Einen Streich (2009)
This adaptation gives some interesting touches to Rapunzel’s story and character: until age 12, she lived a nomadic life, travelling in Gothel’s donkey pulled cart. But one day Gothel spots Rapunzel talking with a young boy, and decides to lock her in the Tower, where there is a magic golden haircomb that makes Rapunzel’s hair grow to be used as a ladder by her adoptive mother. Years pass, and the destiny brings the Prince, who was the young boy of the pass, to the Tower where the now grown up Rapunzel lives, and she has to face a dilema: continuing to live in the Tower, that brings the feel of comfort and safety, or taking risks and running away to freedom with the Prince she fell in love with.
03º Kelly Sheridan in Barbie as Rapunzel (2002)
This was my first animated adaptation of the fairy tale, and still is my favorite. In this movie, while giving some painting lessons to her little sister, Barbie tells a version of the Rapunzel story to encourage her creativity: kidnapped as a baby by the Witch Gothel, Rapunzel was raised as a house maid, receiving constant verbal mistreatments. But, thanks to her friendship with a rabbit named Hobie and a dragon cub (who still needs to learn how to fly) called Penelope, and her love of painting, the young long haired lady never lets her spirit be broken, always dreaming of someday go to live free in a castle by the sea. One night, she is surprised to find a haircomb that turns into a magic paint brush, wich can make a portal where she can escape and explore the ouside world, and in her first journey, she meets and falls in love with the dashing Prince Stefan, while asking him to not his name to her, because she is afrayed of being forced to tell it to Gothel. And she doesn’t stay long, because she fears that Gothel will get revenge on Hugo, Penelope’s father, for her escape. Talk about having a great sense of altruism, who wouldn’t want to have this lady as their best friend?!
02º Sylvia Wolff  in Rapunzel oder Der Zauber der Tränen (1988)
This german TV Movie combines the tale of Rapunzel with another, more obscure tale collected by the Brothers Grimm, called Maid Maleen. In this version, Rapunzel growed up very acustomed to the comfort and rich life provided by the Old Witch, using a magic reel to roll her hair in and make it grow to be used as a latter. Even tough she is in love with Prince Mathias, she is afrayed of going to the outside world. Later, not being enough that the Old Witch discovers her secret, cuts of her hair and blinds Prince Mathias, the King, after learning the existence of a maiden in the tower who becamed the love of his son, orders his troops to search the tower and seal its window, because he wants Mathias to marry another neighbour princess he arranged for him! Fortunally one of the soldiers takes enough pity to let a loose brick so Rapunzel can breath. She tries to use the point reel to scratch the clay that glues the bricks, and after cutting herself in the reel and crying over it, the reel regains magic, floating, opening the bricks, helping her to escape  to the outside world and search for her beloved Mathias...
And my Number One favorite portrayal of Rapunzel is:
01º Shelley Duvall in Faerie Tale Theatre (1983)
There were some small changes made in some detailles of the story (radishes replacing rampion to be more familiar with international, non german audiences,  insinuation that the Peasants Wife’s craving of the vegetal was a spell purposefully cast by the Witch, Rapunzel being traped in the Tower at adulthood instead of age twelve and a talking parrot/macaw that tells the Witch of the Prince’s visits), but as a whole, this is probably the most faithfull adaptation of the Brothers Grimm tale, and is all the more benefited for it, specially Rapunzel’s character, portrayed by the shows herself, Shelley Duvall. Duvall presented a very sincere passion for the source material, and in her performance, she showed a deep understanding of Rapunzel’s character and why she resonates with so many people: her rebeliousness, her curiosity, her romanticism, her inteligence, her quiet strenght, her resilience and her sense of hope, all of those qualities that the Grimm’s described in their heroine, are all there! When i watch this episode of Faerie Tale Theatre, i don’t see an actress playing a role, i see an icon of my childhood coming to life!
And that is why Shelley Duvall in Faerie Tale Theatre is whom i consider my definitive Rapunzel.
