Happy birthday, Donald Duck! - 90th birthday of Donald Duck - Donald Duck through his periods and ages - Classic shorts, The Three Caballeros, Duck comics, Duck Avenger, Double Duck, Maui Mallard, Ducktales, Kingdom Hearts and Quack Pack - Duckverse - Duckverse in June - Week 1 - My version
Finally, that time has come, when the birthday of the best duck, Donald Duck, is celebrated. Yes, he's celebrating his 90th birthday this year and since he deserves all the special attention, I've drawn a set of all the versions of Donald Duck from his first appearance to today. By the way, found inspiration from this short: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42DBCwvlxtg
I certainly found inspiration in my drawing and related to the versions of Donald's nephews, which you can see here: https://ducktoonsfanart.tumblr.com/post/699647636818509824/huey-dewey-and-louie-duck-triplets-mania-85th https://ducktoonsfanart.tumblr.com/post/714708689115906048/happy-birthday-huey-dewey-and-louie-duck-plus
On June 9, 1934, Donald Duck made his first appearance in a classic short called "The Wise Little Hen" by Silly Symphony and invented by Walt Disney to be reimagined and modernized by Carl Barks, Al Taliaferro, Jack King and Jack Hannah and other authors. In the beginning, a duck with a long beak and excellent trolling, but then he became a grumpy and jerk duck, and later a very family and friendly duck. Yes, Donald Duck describes each and every one of us here, because we all share similar personalities to Donald Duck. Donald Duck has appeared in many cartoons, comics, video games, at Disney parks, in books, as toys, and in many other various ways. Since there are so many versions, I decided to just draw my favorite and most important ones that shaped Donald as we know him today.
Yes, Donald Duck from Mickey Mouse Cartoons by Paul Rudish is holding a piece of cake, along with the first version of Donald Duck from "The Wise Little Hen" which is actually the first version of him. And there is the first prototype of the character Donald Duck (from 1931, appeared in the book "he Adventures of Mickey Mouse"), a baby Donald Duck with a red balloon (if anyone has seen the Quack Pack episode "Can't Take a Yolk" knows what it's about), there's also Donald Duck as a little boy (from Topolino and European comics like Paperino Paperetto), Donald Duck from the classic shorts, caballero Donald with a sombrero from Don Donald and The Three Caballeros, soldier Donald Duck (WW2 propaganda cartoons movies), Sailor Donald Duck (from OG Ducktales), Donald Duck from comics (Carl Barks, Don Rosa, Romano Scarpa, Carpi, Vicar, Van Horn, Martina, Cavazzano, Midthun, Marco Rota, Carlos Mota and other authors), Donald from Ducktales 2017, Donald Duck in Hawaiian Shirt from Quack Pack, Donald as Superhero Paperinik (Duck Avenger), Donald as Double Duck (Secret Agent), Donald as Maui Mallard (Ninja), Donald from Fantasia 2000, Donald as Wizard from Kingdom Hearts , Donald as Indiana Jones from Quackshot, Detective Donald Duck from European comics, Musketeer Donald Duck from The Three Caballeros, Super Caballero Donald from The Legend of The Three Caballeros and Donald as the villainous Duck of Doom (from the Quack Pack episode "The Really Mighty Ducks"). There are more, but not all of them would fit in one drawing, and I apologize. Also, Duck Avenger was invented on this day. Duck Avenger was created in 1969 in a comic book by Guido Martina and Giovanni Carpi (correct me about the name of the author) and since then Donald has been an avenger and later he will be a real superhero.
I hope you like this! I wish the best duck a happy 90th birthday! Feel free to like and reblog if you're a Donald Duck fan! Just don't use my same ideas without mentioning me, thanks!
Also this is meant for the Duckverse in June as Week 1, and for @duckversejune2024, @tokuvivor , @secret-tester and @queer-in-a-cornfield. Also this is meant for all of you as my gift especially for those who love Donald Duck the most! Happy birthday Donald Duck!

just a little Donald Duck doodle <3 happy birthday you old quackers~ <3 it's his 90th birthday/anniversary!!
he was a huuuuge inspiration for me to get into drawing, given I was very much exposed to a lot of Disney comics during my childhood, many of which I actually preferred Donald over Mickey (haha sorry Mickey) and Uncle Scrooge alongside Donald comics~

Classic Disney cartoons - My Meme
A meme, a few months old, that I made so here I am to publish on the occasion of the 122nd birthday of Walt Disney, as well as on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Disney Studio as well as the 40th anniversary of the Disney Channel as well as on the occasion of next year as the 40th anniversary of Disney Afternoon and of course 90th anniversary of the first appearance of the best Disney character in the world.
Although I'm not a fan of Disney, especially not today, I'm still grateful that through those cartoons I entered the world of comics and fell in love with them, and that they gave me a good youth. Not only these cartoons, but others, but still a special place is occupied by these cartoons that gave the best that Disney had, that is, the focus of the real Disney, the classic Disney universe (Mickey Mouse / Donald Duck / Goofy / Chip and Dale universe). Certainly on classic shorts and classic Disney series from the beginning to the present day. Yes, I don't like Mickey Mouse Clubhouse as I consider it a degradation of the Mickey and Friends characters, but that's just my opinion. I should have also put Mickey Mouse Cartoons by Paul Rudish and Ducktales reboot, but unfortunately not everything would fit. The classic shorts, OG Ducktales, Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers, Darkwing Duck, Goof Troop, Quack Pack, House of Mouse, and The Legend of The Three Caballeros are certainly examples of great Disney series, at least for me. Although I would prefer to see some animated Disney series made along the lines of Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck comics, in the right ways. By the way, thanks Disney for this one!
However, this is my opinion and my meme, and this is just for good humor, so please don't be offended. If you like this meme, and these cartoons, feel free to like and reblog this. Happy anniversaries to Walt Disney, Disney Studio and Disney Afternoon!

Oh phooey or Hi!
I am the best duck in the world and my name is Donald Duck. I'm all trades, and the fact that I wear a navy suit is thanks to my girlfriend, Daisy, who keeps asking me to wear it. I've been a member of the Junior Woodchucks, a military veteran, a pilot, a postman, a margarine factory worker, a reporter, a wizard, a TV cameraman, a secret agent, a superhero, a super villain, a detective, a spy, an astronaut, a dad, a businessman, a mayor, a policeman, a fireman, a doctor , a cleaner, a farmer, and maybe one day I'll be both president and king.
Since I'm celebrating my 90th birthday this year, you know me everywhere I've been in cartoons, comics, video games, various plays, books, etc. I love playing sports and there is no place where I am not. I also have a big family and I am raising three children, my nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie, I have my best friends Gyro, Jose and Panchito, my worst neighbor Jones, my sister Della, my horrible uncle who doesn't pay me Uncle Scrooge, my cousins, my girlfriends like Daisy and Reginella and not to mention. Yes, I also have Goofy, Horace, Mickey and Oswald as my friends. Yes, I'm speaking for all versions of myself, even though I'm not quite myself.
RULES:
Only those blogs that have rp in their name as well as muses blogs are suitable here.
No NSFW like no fetishes or pornography here.
Especially not pedophilia, zoophilia and incest, it is forbidden here.
Any franchise with RP and muses blogs is welcome, but mostly just my family members and friends from Duckburg, St. Canard, Spoonerville, Mousetown, Mexico, Brazil and other places.
I do this just for fun and partly out of boredom, since I'm the only one communicating here from my family and I'd like the others to join me as well.
Don't ask me if I'm okay, or if I'm throwing you out. I can be very awkward, and I am very angry.
Don't reblog from me unless I give permission!
I hope it will be good here.

i am currently going insane over the parallels between hortense and della in one of the new comics
so i was reading the mickey mouse magazine in the dentist's waiting room on wednesday and one of the comics for donald's 90th anniversary suddenly dropped hortense mcduck lore
in this canon, she's an adventurer and a scientist and she goes missing while on an adventure
the story is about scrooge trying to find her and bring her home for donald's birthday, but he doesn't find her (and ends up having to get saved by donald, gladstone, and the triplets). donald finds letters that she wrote to him while she was missing and scrooge says that he's sure she's still alive
and while this isn't dt17 canon, it is a danish story so it's the same canon as the comic that introduced the concept of della getting lost in space (it was even the 80th anniversary special)
della herself doesn't appear in the comic (and isn't even mentioned) but she is on the cover for the next issue (along with donald or hortense) and i can't wait to read it
the comics always make such a point of how similar donald and della are to hortense but this case is just so heartbreaking
and specifically with the context of dt17, the parallels of hortense's letters and della's transmission, both trying to contact their kids but not being able to
i think i might actually translate the comic to english if no one already has and if i find it at the store today
Hi sorry for the late reply I’m gonna CRY, no pressure and also PLEASE deliver the translation unto the people, that would be so awesome! It’s always such an incredible reminder how tightly they tie in/snag lore.

It’s Donald Duck Day 2024! Aka it’s the 90th birthday and anniversary of our favourite mischievous, misfortunate hothead waterbill duck with the semi-intelligible speech from the 1930s and that’s Donald Duck! A ally and rival in Mickey Mouse’s Group and to the Mouse himself! Happy 90 years Donald! And no matter what bad luck strikes upon you, you managed to pull through and never give up, not to mention be somewhat relatable due to your irrational and angry personality yet pessimistic attitude that mixes with your kind and altruistic personality!
Happy 90 years Donald Duck and remember, no matter with whatever bad luck, there will be happiness that comes along too!

Donald's Birthday - a Disney fanfic
Originally written in 2017, when I was attempting a Disney Alphabet Drabbles series. Now, cleaned up a bit and reposted as its own ficlet!

In honor of Donald's 90th birthday, here's my humble offering. Enjoy!
~~~~
In the neighborhood of Mickey Mouse and his friends, a special occasion was taking place. Minnie and Daisy were preparing the food, Goofy was (attempting) to set up decorations (while Mickey kept a sharp eye and helpful hand nearby), and "Uncle Scrooge" was carefully wrapping up the presents. Huey, Dewey, and Louie ran about sporadically, helping whoever they could, and often reminding their elders of the time.
Finally, at 11 o'clock am, sharp, everything was miraculously in order.
"Mickey," Minnie called from the kitchen, "I see them coming! They're almost in the driveway!"
"All right, everyone, places!" Mickey said excitedly (while managing to dislodge Goofy's head from the fish bowl).
Everyone scrambled around the front door, the three young ones in front, their hands grasping party favors, and they all held their breaths.
The door unlocked and three birds stepped inside.
One was a red-feathered rooster, who wore a bright red coat to match, and a wide-brimmed sombrero, and at his hips, he bore two pistols.
The other was a green-feathered parrot, with a fashionable cane and old-fashioned cigar between his fingers (or feathers?).
And the third was a white-feathered duck, wearing an iconic blue sailor suit...
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY, (UNCLE) DONALD!" The party shouted loudly together (his nephews, obviously, added the "Uncle"), shooting confetti into the air.
Donald Duck blushed and ushered his old friends forward.
"Friends, I want you to meet Panchito and José, my fellow Caballeros," he said in his usual, somewhat unintelligible voice, but thankfully, years of exposure was enough translation for everyone present.
"Yaaaaaaahhhhho!" Panchito, the rooster, shouted, and proceeded to exclaim and shout in rapid-fire Spanish, tossing his sombrero in the air, and candy from his pockets (much to Huey,  Dewey and Louie's delight).
José took a long inhale from his cigar, and sighed something in Brazilian Portuguese, smiling at the antics of his friends, before approaching Daisy Duck, and kissing her hand.
Soon, everyone was shaking hands, laughing, and exchanging pleasantries, and they moved from the front hall to the living room. Scrooge McDuck seemed particularly keen to chat with José, whose cane seemed to be made of an older design that the old duck had not seen in years.
Minnie mentioned something about a cake, and Mickey offered to help her. Goofy followed them (saying he'll help light the candles, but really, Mickey dragged him along so he could keep an eye on his old, clumsy friend).
This left the living room occupied solely with birds, both of the Duck family and of the two Latino guests. Daisy laughed at Uncle Scrooge debating with José over whose cane was more valuable, and of her adopted nephews surrounding the exuberant rooster, all chatting away excessively.
"Here, mi amigos," Panchito suddenly said jovially to the nephews, whipping out a small booklet from his coat pocket, "here's a few memories with your tío, myself, and José, there. Just a couple of keepsakes of our days visiting Brazil, Mexico, et cetera, to celebrate the old boy's birthday, eh?"
He playfully nudged Donald in the ribs (who was currently trying to ask Daisy when dinner would be ready, and promptly squawked in protest). "Ha!" Panchito laughed. "Never change, mi amigo."
"I don't plan to," Donald grumbled under his breath.
"Ay yi yi, what a shame, my friend," José said, who had now ended his discussion with Scrooge, and was slyly leaning against the wall and examining his feathers. "There was once upon a time when you said the same thing, and now you've gone and settled down with a bela moça," he nodded graciously to Daisy, who was clutching her sweetheart's arm.
"What does he mean, Donald?" she asked sweetly.
Panchito, still waving the little booklet in his grip, exchanged wicked grins with José. "Oh, nothing much, señorita, except that your boyfriend was a bit of a, ah, what you call? A casa-- a caso—no--"
"A Casanova, I believe is what you're thinking of," José said, albeit a bit muffled, as he was taking another drag from his cigar.
Donald turned pale (if a white duck can turn pale). Daisy merely narrowed her eyes. But Donald's nephews busted up laughing.
"Uncle Donald? A Casanova?" Huey cried, laying on the floor and pounding it with his fists.
"No one's ever looked at Uncle Donald twice except Aunt Daisy!" Dewey gasped, clutching at his sides.
"You're gonna have to give us proof to believe you," Louie said, grinning from ear to ear, and leaning against the living room armchair to catch his breath.
"Ah, but we have!"
"You wouldn't!" Donald blurted out, before slapping a hand over his mouth (er, beak).
"Amigo, cálmate, cálmate, it's all just a bit of fun," Panchito said soothingly (but with a teasing glint in his eye). "Who wants to see some photos of Tío Donald chasing after some pretty ladies?"
The three nephews all shouted affirmation at once. Donald turned even paler, then pink, red, redder, deep purple, until---
What followed next could only be described as chaos. Donald flew into a terrible, infamous tantrum, chasing Panchito all over the living room, and his nephews chased after him, bombarding him with questions:
"Why are you so upset, Uncle Donald?"
"So, there really are pictures of proof?!"
"Why can't we see them?!"
"Uncle Scrooge, was Uncle Donald really a Casanova?"
(Uncle Scrooge scoffed and said something along the lines of “not my circus, not my monkeys.”)
Daisy stood stock still for a solid minute, before shouting at Donald to come back here at once, and explain himself!
José simply leaned against the wall, calmly taking drag after drag on his cigar, and passively sticking his foot out to trip up his friends during their chase, from time to time.
Scrooge shook his cane and attempted to discipline his great-nephews (he knew there was no helping Donald once he was on a rampage), but pandemonium demanded forefront attention and so it would be.
Mickey and Minnie stepped out of the kitchen, smiling, and presently a grand, freshly iced cake, with Goofy trailing behind them, humming to himself. They stopped dead in their tracks at the chaotic scene before them.
José smiled at them serenely, seemingly unmoved by their dumbfounded expressions.
"It's what you might call a 'celebration,' eh?", he said nonchalantly, nodding at the sight.
"I'd call it 'chaos,'" Mickey remarked, his eyes glued on Donald scrambling on top of the hearth to reach Panchito, who was perched on the high ceiling rafters, waving the little booklet in his hand teasingly.
José shrugged. "Same difference, in my country, anyway."
Goofy guffawed loudly. "Gawrsh, Mickey, that does sound about right!"
Mickey exchanged looks with Minnie. They both sighed and shrugged.
"I think I better hide the cake in the kitchen before anything happens to it," Minnie said delicately, stepping back a few paces before turning heel.
"Right behind ya, dear," Mickey said, shaking his head at his crazy friends. "Goofy, try to calm down Donald, will ya?"
"Righto, Mickey-o," Goofy said importantly, before marching into the living room and promptly getting knocked out by a swinging (and very angry) duck on the ceiling fan.
Mickey sighed. Maybe José was right. This was a typical "celebration" among friends, at least, friends of Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck....
Happy 90th Birthday, Donald Duck
Everyone, today is the 90th birthday to everyone's favorite short fused duck...
Tumblr media
Donald Duck!
Tumblr media
It has been 90 years since one of Mickey's friends made his first appearance in the short film, "The Wise Little Hen" back in 1934. So, given that I have Donald as one of my muses, you are welcome to come into the ask box to give Donaldo the best birthday wishes he could ask for.
Pirate Month III: Donald Duck Finds Pirate Gold!
Tumblr media
Ahoy me hearties and welcome back to pirate month, my celebration of all things piratey! Today's review is a bit special. See this blog was founded on duck rviews: I started with Ducktales Season 3, seeing it thorugh to the series end, and never really stopped covering other classics like life and times, recently finished and with a look at the extra chapters and other related works next year
but until this year it'd slowed down. But with both the end of said retrospective and donald's 90th birthday I got my fire back, and thus when it came to said birthday I had a few ideas. Ultimately I went with mr duck steps out, my faviorite of the classic disney shorts , the debut of daisy and one of many masterminded by Donald Duck's real dad Carl Barks
But it wasn't the first Carl Barks work I considered. Given how much the comics shaped donald and how much barks defined him I had another idea in mind at first before pivoting to Mr Duck Steps Out. See there's something I simply never thought about, something so basic to cover for a creator yet i'd never looked it up: What was Carl Barks FIRST Donald Duck Story? The Answer? Donald Duck Finds Pirate Gold. And since I just so happened to have pirate month every year, I decided to save this treasure. It's still one I was fascinated to read though both for starting one of the best careers in comics.. and for being the first american donald duck adventure story, yet never really being talked about. While Don Rosa went all over scrooge's story he didn't , as far as I can tell at least, refrence Donald's own adventure stories often. It's somethign that dosen't get as much love and something I was all too eager to give some to since my reaction to almost anything iwth donald duck is
Tumblr media
Donald Duck Finds Pirate Gold actually started as an idea for a shot, then starring Donald, Goofy and Mickey, who'd go up against pete in a quest for pirate treasure. For whatever reason the short didn't happen, but the materials found their way into the hands of Del Comics. Del was allowed to use Disney's research materials, per disney historian Jim Korkis, he's quote din a story done for mouse planet you can find here, and thus tapped Jack Hannah and Carl Barks, animatiors at disney, to draw the story as they wanted a big 64 page comic for their four color series.
As Hannah Recalled via interview in said article: " Story Research Director at the Disney Studio, "took us to meet Eleanor Packer who I believe was in charge of Whitman/Western Publishing. They wanted us to draw 64 pages of a Donald Duck story. I suspect the reason we were chosen for this assignment was that it was a more story related project. We were doing all the Donald Duck stories for the shorts and doing all the story sketches at the time so I'm just guessing that they probably felt we could work out this story as well, maybe even add in a few touches to help it flow properly."
Barks would reflect on the process of making that in another interview " "Jack and I looked the script over and decided which pages we would like to draw. After we had drawn a few pages, we decided that I should draw all of the stuff that was involved with the ducks outside on the deck of the boat or on the island, and Jack would take care of the inside stuff."
The result is a gorgeous story light on words at times but heavy on expression, with both Hannah and Barks bringign their a game. Hannah would continue in comics but unlike barks never went full time, staying with animation but it's the combination of these two titans and a solid script by Bob Karp that makes this something special. Pirate Gold may be one of the first Donald stories.. but it's also easily one of my favorites and i'd like to share with you why under the cut
We begin with a shot of the Bucket O Blood Seafood Grotto, donald's latest hustle and I find it fun that even just starting his career, even in a plot he didn't come up with... we still have Donald working a random odd job and still have a lack of money being a major plot point.
In this case Donald is catching his own fresh fish with the boys during a big wet rainstorm when they nearly die and loose their nets.
Tumblr media
I love this little gag though it points out something neat about this one: the boys often finish each others sentences. This feels like the biggest giveaway this was supposed to be a short and barks and later writers woudl do away with this gimmick in print.
The boys find another way to be annoying though: pestering donald about loosing their nets... while he's trying to batten down the hatches so they all don't die in this massive storm.
Tumblr media
They get a knock at the door.. thankfully i'ts not dave bautista and rupert grint trying to get them to murder themselves to prevent the apocalypse, but Yellow Beak, a character I don't see much in disney comics but had heard of and i'm shocked was in first carl barks story. Yellow beak is a diminutive parrot with a bossy attitude and a craving for Slumgullion. Slumgullion is a type of goulash, an american based one using pasta, red sauce and ground beef that honestly sounds delightful. I only know it exists thanks to this comic and now having some is a personal dream of mine.
For now though i'll just have to watch Yellow Beak have some as he thinks he's safe
Tumblr media
I'm going to get SO much use out of this panel. I love a good goofy golden age panel, a love I recently discovered binging 80 pounds of batman.
Tumblr media
Anyways BUT OUTSIDE is Pete. Yes that pete. As for why he's the antagonist for this : He was born to cheat and lie, he's a mean rotten guy, if you ask him why he's nasty here's his reason why: at a stork delvery his mommy screamed "Woe is me, such a dork hey mister stork behold my misery! Peteys Ghastly, pete's a blob, pete's a nasty nutty slob" can it sister because he's the mister who will get the job. In this case it's sadly not becoming king of france, but it is trying to become king of the pirates, which is even better and means you get to fight a rubber man who can become a rubberhose cartoon god if your lucky.
For now though Pete is trying to find yellow beak and we get one of my faviorite panels of the comic, only second to one i'll talk about more later.
Tumblr media
I really wish Barks got to draw pete more often. His pete is incredibly expressive , meanacing and when neeeded hilarous.
Pete knocks on their door and Yellowbeak hides the map he's after with donald, agreeing to cut him in for the treausre. Donald only agrees after A) Being assured this isn't the police as he'd happily turn him in and B) being reminded about those gosh dang nets they need.
WE get a fun scene of Pete going around the place, even going into the kitchen because he's "very hygenic"
Tumblr media
God I love that line.And hannah's art's also great nice and expressive.
Pete leaves but makes sure to listen in real good as Yellow Beak, thinking the coast is clear confides in the ducks
Tumblr media
Pete in this story is just such a delight. He had me thinking about something i'd considered before when I thought about a fanfic adapting the quackshot video game but following donald , daisy, and the twins on their world tour. Donald and Pete.. are good mirrors to each other. Both are impulsive, prone to chasing an easy buck, hot tempered, and in some versions family focused. But Donald tends to barely scrape by as the underdog, while Pete tends to find or steal his way into authority. Donald is batted around by the system while pete either makes it work for him selling used cars or what not, or slips into the cracks doing crimes. Donald's tiny yet scrappy, pete's big lumbering and imposing. I honestly wonder WHY the comics dont' have them throw down more often: Yes Pete is one of mickey's arch villians, but I don't see the need to so evenly seperate the Duck and Mouse comics. In the comics Pete was born to steal and lie he's a mean rotten guy, a criminal who engages in various schemes.. so him alternating between mouseton and duckburg when it one gets too hot makes sense and he makes a good foe for Donald and for Scrooge, being the kind of skeezy criminal Scrooge fights regularly.
Yellow Beak reveals the map is actually in the restraunt, retracing steps he hold from an old mate who talked to the ghost of captain morgan who had nothing but wisdom for him
Tumblr media
They find the map.. and not knowing their evesdropping Yellowbeak reveals they need to buy a boat. Why not just rent one is beyond me but i'm not up on 1942 economics. So pete goes off to plot
After a breif comedy bit of donald buying a fancy hat and Yellowbeak not letting him be captain, which I thought was harsh at first but honestly fair.. I mean he shoudl've let him keep the fancy captains hat, but I get that since Yellowbeak brought them the mission, he should get to lead.
I also get shades of their future dynamic with scrooge: a curmudgeonly seasoned adventuere, a frequently complaning donald as the lancer and the boys as eager assitants who are oftne key in saving the adults necks with their canny observations. The script wasn't by barks, but I wouldn't be suprised if he remembered how well it worked from before, with Scrooge being easier to squeeze into stories. After all Donald's rich dynamic uncle who always is after another rainbow is a bit easier ot set up adventures for than "a pirate parrot donald knows and dosen't like all that much"
SO pete's scheme is clever. He actually bothers to disguise himself as a greeving widow, shaving up nice and putting on a wig. As per 40's cartoon logic this works perfectly and he cons them into renting the boat instead of buying it by pretnedin gher husband the captain died. I again like seeing pete like this: he can be short sighted but I like him with a good scheme: it's part of what made Goofy Movie and Three Musketeers work so well: he CAN plan or think he's a master of psychology, but he's too arrogant to win.
We get a LOT of good gags in this comic as pete's goons, two mice wheel in tons of heavy ordanance while Donald is understandably worried. He brushes it off as a hobby but their undrestandably not convinced.
We get another fun sequence as Pete tails Yellowbeak after he gets a letter.. only to find it's agrocery list. This leads to my favoirite panel of the whole comic
Tumblr media
Everything about that panel to the right is perfect, from the facial expression to the clouds that weren't exactly necfessary but add to the scene. It's just such a perfectly donald expression, so "what the hell did I do" so baffled. While it was only his first comic... Barks already got how to perfectly put donald in panel. It's expressive, funny and great to look at.
The next two pages are some antics as Pete tries to get the map since it's hidden. And their good antics: he goes in at night to try and find it and gently hangs donald on a hook
Tumblr media
His minons suggest he just "cut dere throats and take the map" but pete TRIES to play it subtle and just get it when they take it out to plan.. but it's their plans for AFTER they get the map.
Finally Pete decides to take their advice to heart and just cut dere throats. Luckily the boys spot him and dump him aboard. While there's some good dialoge in this one, a lot of the comedy is more slapstick, as this WAS supposed to be a cartoon and it's easier to animate actions rather than talking. It still works in comics just as fine and Hannah and Barks art is super expressive, it's just neat to contrast to Barks more heavy use of dialogue in the rest of his career.
They dunk Pete and call "Woman overboard".. so Donald and Yellow beak see him sans disguise. The gig is up and a fight begins, with some beautiful actions and the boys being thrown in the brig..w hich they easily escape. This comes in handy as whlie putting up an impressive fight, complete with a little sword action as any good pirate adventure needs, Donald and Yellowbeak are cornered and forced to walk the plank.
Thankfully the boys built a raft offscreen so our heroes ar esaved by plot convience and a daring rescue and are already off in the distnace by the time pete realizes> he plans to just let the sharks have them.. only to find out Yellowbeak cut out the center of the map, the part both parties need next.
So out to sea Yellowbeak doles out rations
Tumblr media
Now to be fair we don't KNOW that shark had self respect. I mean most people love pringles, but I woudln't cal lme wolfing down a can of all dress pringles in one sitting self respecting. I would call it delicous. Their new to the US and their a delight. Need to get me more. THEY CONSUME ME, THEY CONSUME ME
Anyway our heroes reach the island with yellowbeak having remmebered some steps and not letting the others eat because he's a bit of a dick. They find the cove.. and pete monotring it so they break into his boat at night.. only to find he's already out searching for treasure. If this sounds a bit circular that's because.. it is> This small section feels like not a lot happens.
Thankfully it picks up soon as our heroes head to a pirate cave and find a ghost! Before donald can deal with it in his usual way
Tumblr media
The ghost gives them the rest of the mask and they ask no followup questions despite it obviously being pete in a bedsheet, who gave them the map back to lead him to the treasure.
So we're at the climax: our heroes dig it up, the boys make themselves scare and pete understandably waits until the two idiots have done all the work for him to strike. The boys once again prove to be the only compitent ones here, and strike back with some coconuts
Tumblr media
Once again Pete is cruelly denied becoming knig of france. They quickly take out the two mooks and since this is their swan song I love the designs of these guys, the buck teth, big ears. Reminds me of mortimer. Maybe he has a twin brother or two, who knows.
We end with our heroes taking the bad guys back to the ship. Donald and Yellow Beak argue about whose the captan now only to get a rude awakening to end the comic
Tumblr media
You know I never thought I'd see a story that ended with the boys holding Donald Duck and a modern day pirate who still acts like a goldena ge one at cannon point but i'm glad I lived to see it.
Donald Duck Finds Pirate Gold is a fun story, expressive, full of great jokes, and with a nice sense of swashbuckling adventure. I wasn't sure how much of a pirate story this was going to be but I was delighted that it kept the feel. Pete tends to be the real star with tons of great expressions, gags as he tries to outwit the heroes and some genuinely clever planning. While it was barks first story and he didn't get to write it, I was shocked by just HOW good it is. While some comic writers artists do start firing on all cyllenders, most take a bit to really lock down their style. And while barks did have some stuff to figure out, when it came to drawing comics he was fantastic and got the medium from the start. True he'd been an animator for this so he wasn't a complete newbie.. but it's still a hard medium to get just right snf hr killed it on his first try. Jack Hannah's work also can't be understated: a lot of the great pete art is his and he gets the slapstick down to a science.
It also feels like, as I mentioned before, a blueprint to barks other stories: while yellowbeak would be swaped out for scrooge a lot of the comedic beats, the skeezy protaganist of the day, and the comedic ending all fit his scrooge adventures. This comic is utterlyf antastic and since Disney hasn't repinted it recently you can find it here on archive.org
Thanks for reading and happy pirate month. Yarrgh
Mickey and Minnie Mouse with their kids (their nephews and nieces) - Mickey's Once Upon A Christmas - Mouseverse - Gift for my friend
I know the Christmas holidays are long gone, but I did this last month on Deviantart, for a friend of mine who was celebrating her birthday then, so I'm posting it here too, even though it's over. Sorry!
I drew Mickey and Minnie Mouse based on Mickey's Once Upon A Christmas movie where they really looked like a loving couple. Still, it's nothing without children, so I added Mickey's nephews Morty and Ferdie Fieldmouse (Morty is in a red hoodie jacket, while Ferdie is in a blue hoodie jacket) as well as Minnie's nieces Millie and Melody (Millie is in a purple outfit, while Melody is in some green - blue clothes). Yes, Milie and Melody appeared in Minnie's Bow Toons (although I personally don't like such baby series, it's still good that Minnie got her nieces, otherwise she has them, but only one in the comics), while Morty and Ferdie appeared in the classic shorts and in comics, though not as often. I wish somehow they appeared a little more often with Mickey and Minnie Mouse and more people knew about the Mickey Mouse comics where he has more personality than he does in the cartoons. Especially since Steamboat Willie came out as public domain.
Of course, I drew in my own ways, using inspiration from other drawings. Yes, and I drew both Mickey's nephews and Minnie's nieces as preteens and based on the comics, as if they were wearing a modern version of the clothes.  This year is also the 25th anniversary of Mickey's Once Upon A Christmas and the 90th anniversary of the first animated appearance of Morty and Ferdie in the classic short "Mickey's Steam-Roller", although they first appeared in the 1932 comic "Mickey's Nephews". Once again, I wish you a late Christmas and a happy New Year 2024! And this is a belated gift for my friend, @harmony-bunny , whom I dedicated to her as a gift since she is a big fan of this couple.
I hope you like this gift of mine, and that you like this drawing too.
Happy Holidays and Happy Belated Valentine's Day! Feel free to like and reblog this if you like it!
Movie Review: “Long Story Short: Willie Nelson 90”
“Long Story Short: Willie Nelson 90” is so long …
HOW LONG IS IT, MR. SOUND BITES?
“Long Story Short: Willie Nelson 90” is so long, the producers built in an intermission - a “4:20 break,” they called it - about halfway through the film’s three-hour run time. Oddly enough, the manager of the theater where the film debuted June 11 - encore showings are slated for June 13 and 14 - frowned upon those of us who took the reason for the pause literally, meaning we’ll have to wait for the home-video release for a real 4:20 break.
But it was needed, as the movie - edited down from Nelson’s April 29-30 all-star concerts/90th-birthday celebrations at the Hollywood Bowl - is far too long. For all the highlights, there are less-than-thrilling appearances from Beck, Nathaniel Rateliff, the Lumineers (singing “Pretty Paper” in April), Miranda Lambert, Sheryl Crow, George Strait, et. al that do little more than make the movie house chairs feel even more uncomfortable.
Built around some 40 performers, occasionally solo or with their own groups, but mostly backed by a house band that included music director Don Was on bass, Greg Leisz on pedal steel, former Black Crowes guitarist Audley Freed, soon-to-be-former Punch Brother Gabe Witcher on fiddle, Belmont Tench and Booker T. Jones on keys, Mickey Raphael on harmonica and the McCrary Sisters on background vocals, “Long Story Short” works despite its flaws.
And how could it not? With a band like that, a guest list that would render even the most famous person starstruck (Dave Matthews, who turned in an appropriately weird solo version of “Funny How Time Slips Away,” sure was) and a bunch of Nelson’s greatest songs - plus Warren Haynes singing “Midnight Rider” and Jack Johnson on the hilarious “Willie Got Me Stoned and Took All My Money” - the highlights are too many to mention.
But then there are the highest of the high, which follow in order of appearance:
* Billy Strings opening the show just as Nelson would and setting the tone with “Whiskey River.” The only thing wrong with this was saving one of the best for first, which is not how these things are supposed to work.
* Particle Kid - aka Micah Nelson - performing “Die When I’m High (Halfway to Heaven),” written from his father’s perspective, with Daniel Lanois playing pedal steel without picks. The effect was both comedic and ethereal.
* Rodney Crowell, Emmylou Harris, Waylon Payne and Raphael collaborating on Crowell’s “It Ain’t Over Yet,” a spellbinding song about aging gracefully in the music business.
* Rosanne Cash singing “Loving Her was Easier (Than Everything I’ll Ever Do Again)” to - and with - Kris Kristofferson while changing the word her to you. At 86, Kristofferson seems older than the birthday boy, making this heartfelt performance the stuff of lumps in throats as the two stood with arms around each other and sharing friendly kisses before Cash melted into the arms of her father’s former Highwaymen bandmate.
* Lukas Nelson channeling his father as a young man - both on guitar and at the mic - on an eerie solo performance of “Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground.”
* Willie singing “Stardust” while trading solos with Jones.
* Norah Jones performing “Down Yonder” in memory of “little sister” Bobbie Nelson.
* The Avett Brothers - sans house band - admonishing everyone to “Pick up the Tempo.”
* Gary Clark Jr. giving a guitar clinic and sharing the spotlight with Raphael on “Texas Flood,” which he dedicated to both Willie and Stevie Ray Vaughan.
* Bob Weir singing - really singing his heart out - “Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain” while Strings, who looked as if he might shit himself with glee, played Willie’s parts on acoustic guitar.
* Jamey Johnson proving himself an incredible crooner on “Georgia on My Mind” while Haynes chipped in slide guitar as only he plays it.
* Neil Young, Stephen Stills and all three Nelson boys giving an emphatic affirmative to Young’s musical question: “Are there Any More Real Cowboys.”
* Snoop Dogg, with a gold mic and an unlit blunt in his hands, joining Willie for “Roll Me up and Smoke Me When I Die.”
* Willie’s strongest vocal performance, alongside Keith Richards - who sang better than he has in ages - on “We Had it All.” Bonus: Richards’ eye makeup was a gas, gas, gas.
The thing ended with every performer on stage for “On the Road Again” followed by everyone singing “Happy Birthday to You” with Willie singing along and emphasizing the word, ME.
There’s such a thing as too much and “Long Story Short” - a misnomer of the highest degree - has it. But with such a diverse guest list that spans generations and genres, it’s unlikely anyone other than the number-loving Willie Nelson himself would enjoy every number. And if Willie had a happy 90th, then it’s OK to spend an hour more than necessary in a theater to celebrate in his honor.
But it’ll be even better at home, with a real 4:20 break and a remote control equipped with a fast-forward button.
Grade card: “Long Story Short: Willie Nelson 90” - B
Donald Duck saves his nephews - Donald Duck and Huey, Dewey and Louie Duck - Quack Pack - Happy birthday Donald Duck! - Father's Day - Video clip
9/6/1934 The Classic Short “The Wise Little Hen” was shown and Donald Duck appeared there for the first time. Donald Duck will become one of the main stars of not only Disney, but also cartoon films, comics and video games at all. Certainly there is no need to tell his history.
An excerpt from the Quack Pack episode “Noisy Neighbors” and I am uploading this video again for my own reasons, since the previous one did not work properly (problem in the tags as far as I know). I'm definitely posting it for Donald's 90th birthday as well as Father's Day! Happy Father's Day to all fathers, uncles and grandfathers!
I’m posting this just in case, because Donald Duck is both father and mother to his nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie, that is, a real parent to them and unfortunately most people still deny it. That’s why I posted this clip showing Donald saving his nephews from two evil thieves, as well as sacrificing his night lamp to save his teenage nephews from being crushed by a garbage disposal. And in the end, Huey, Dewey and Louie embrace him as their real parent, as the Unca Donald they’ve always thought of him as.
Yes, whatever you think about Quack Pack, it was the only animated series that showed a lot of moments of dynamic relationships between Donald Duck and his nephews, like father-son relationships, and in my opinion it was the best segment of that underrated series. Of course, you have a lot of that in comics, but unfortunately only in animation is Quack Pack showing it well. Of course, the OG Ducktales and Mickey’s Once Upon A Christmas also showed well, only that Donald was a secondary character and less shown than his nephews, while in the Ducktales reboot, there were only some moments of hugs and nothing more. That’s why I appreciate and love this series. My opinion.
By all means, if you’re a fan of Donald Duck and Huey, Dewey and Louie, and a fan of the Quack Pack, please like and reblog this! And Happy Father’s Day and Happy Belated Birthday to Donald’s Nephews as well as Happy 90th Birthday Donald Duck! Because today is that day!
Things My Heart Used to Know (a DuckTales Anastasia AU, G) (also known as The Fusion Fic) "We have to go," Donald said. Scrooge turned to Louie and pressed something small and solid and round into his hand. "Guard it well," he told him before disappearing into the smoke. Or, Louie gives a new meaning to the nickname "Captain Lost."
An Old Letter (Donald Duck & Mickey Mouse, G) The boys help Donald write a letter to an old friend. Written for Mickey Mouse's birthday (November 18). Happy 89th, Mickey!
Mother Hen (B.O.Y.D. & Gyro Gearloose, G) Yep, that was Gizmoduck, launching rockets at Mark Beaks in an effort to keep him at bay. And there was 2-BO flying around, blasting lasers from his eyes. ... And there was 2-BO flying around, blasting lasers from his eyes. OR B.O.Y.D. is damaged and Gyro just about loses his mind.
Lullabies (G) If you ask Donald, he'll tell you that the very moment he lost control of his life was when he found himself up at 2:00 in the morning trying to figure out how to clean up the lyrics of the old sea shanties he knows to make them suitable to sing to his boys.
