Bucky Barnes x Enhanced!Female!Reader

Summary: The mission didn’t go as planned and Y/N has to face something that is (for once) actually happening.

A.N: I’m so sorry y'all. Readers right arm is metal.

Warning’s: Swearing, Fighting, Character death, blood.

“That’s not good!” Sam yelled.

“No fuckin’ shit Sherlock.” Y/N screamed back.

The trio were running as fast as their legs would carry them. Things hadn’t gone as planned. Sam had accidently tripped and alarm in the facility and now they were being chased by agents.

“This isn’t what happens in action movies is it?” Bucky yelled.

“Can it Barnes!” Sam retaliated.

Y/N laughed at the men. It was as if she was on a mission with a couple of children. The mission was supposed to be an easy one, a quick in and out job to get some information -  it was anything but. There were more guards than the trio had anticipated, the entire facility was done up like freaking Fort Knox and it had taken way longer than expected to do anything. Not only that, they were being shot at.

“Can’t you just magic them away?” Sam asked.

“Don’t you think that I would have already fuckin’ done that if I could?” Y/N yelled back.

“Well I don’t see either of you coming up with any plans!”

“Oh for fucks sake!”

Y/N stopped in her tracks and turned around to look at the on coming agents. They continued to fire her but none of the bullets hit her due to telekinesis, her hands were held up to create a purple forcefield to stop the bullets. After sending the bullets back to where they came from she hit the ceiling with a blast of energy to block the way before turning back around to continue running. Bucky had a proud look on his face. They might actually make it out.

The feeling of safety was short lived though.

“Dead end.” Sam said, looking around the room.

“Do you want a medal Captain Obvious!?”

The ceiling was tall and the room wasn’t lit so nobody could see the shooter that was lurking above until it was late. The shots rang out in the room as the trio shut their eyes and tried to cover themselves. Sam covered himself with the shield and Y/N tried to use her powers to cover Bucky as well as herself.

When Y/N opened her eyes she expected to look down and see bullets. But there was nothing. Sam and Y/N shared a confused look as she turned to look at him. Had the bullets missed them? Were the bullets even aimed at them?

“Y/N?”

Y/N whipped her head around so quickly she nearly broke her neck.

“No.” she whispered. “No no no no NO!”

The bullets were lodged in Bucky’s stomach, the hadn’t missed at all. The five holes in the leather of his suit jacket were surrounded by red. Snapping out of her daze Y/N raced over to her husband as he fell to the floor, cradling his head as he fell to the ground. She pressed both of her hands over the bullet wounds, trying to stop the blood but it was seeping through her fingers.

“Shit.”

Her hands were shaking and she was holding back tears. Y/N could feel her heart shattering into billions on teeny tiny pieces. She was so focused on Bucky she didn’t notice Sam fighting the shooter, with ease mind you. She tried to stop the blood with her powers as well but to no avail.

“It’s okay.” He told her. “It’s going to be okay babydoll.”

“No.” Y/N whispered. “No it’s not.”

Bucky reached up with his metal arm to brush a strand of hair behind Y/N’s ear. “It’s okay Y/N. Just let me go sweetheart.”

“No! James Buchanan Barnes you are not dying not today.”

“I’m okay.”

“Bucky you can’t… leave me. Baby please don’t leave me!”

“I’m so sorry doll.”

Bucky pushed Y/N’s hands away from his stomach even though she was shaking her head at him not to. She grabbed the man’s body and shuffled closer to the wall, pulled him into her lap. Her back was pressed against the wall behind her, she had her left arm around his shoulders and her metal arm around his torso. Bucky moved his arm to remove his dog tags from around his neck and tried to give them to Y/N.

“Bucky I… I can’t take them, they’re yours.”

Ignoring the girls words, Bucky looped the chain around his wife’s neck. The chain now hung around Y/N’s neck with her own tags. His vibranium hand was on the back of the girls neck. He wished that he could she her smile again but that wasn’t going to happen - not in this situation.

“I… I want you to… remember me Y/N.”

“I could never forget you Bucky.”

“I… I love you so much dollface.”

With a last bit of strength, Bucky pulled Y/N down for one last kiss. Moving her arm from around the brunettes torso, Y/N moved her right hand to cup the mans face and pressed their lips together. The woman could faintly feel the man moving his lips against hers. The kiss tasted like salt from the tears that she had cried. She felt Bucky’s body go limp in her arms and she cried even harder. She felt his hand fall from the back of her neck. Bucky had died kissing his wife, the love of his shitty life and he couldn’t think of a better way to go.

Y/N held Bucky in her arms, slowly rocking herself back and forth. She her hand through her husband’s hair who was still in her lap. Y/N was full on sobbing now, she couldn’t hold back her tears. All Sam could do was watch as Y/N pressed a kiss to the forehead of her dead husband.

“I would now like to call Mrs Y/N Barnes up to the podium to speak.”

Y/N was pulled out of her thoughts by the man at the front. Reluctantly, she let go of the tight grip she had on Sam’s hand. It was her turn to speak, the first to speak. She didn’t want to speak. She didn’t want to be there. She didn’t want to believe that it was true. There couldn’t be any way that this was happening to her, now after everything that they had been through.

The woman stood up with her legs wobbling to the point that Sam thought he’d have to catch her. Her black 40’s style swing dress, that was covered by one of Bucky’s hoodies, swayed as she slowly made her way up to the podium. It had been a miracle in and of itself that Y/N had even made to the building. She didn’t care that it looked slightly odd that she was wearing a hoodie over her dress.

Y/N placed her papers that had been sat in her lap onto the wood in front of her. She bit her red painted bottom lip as she lifted her eyes up to scan the room before she began to read.

“’Best friends since childhood, Bucky Barnes, Y/N Barnes and Steven Rogers were inseparable on both schoolyard and battlefield. Mr and Mrs Barnes were the only Howling Commandos to give their lives in service of their country.’ That’s what it says in the Smithsonian Captain America exhibition, and it’s true.” Y/N started with a shaking voice. “I’ve known Bucky since 1923. Some boys were picking on me and he protected me from them. He always protected me. From there our friendship began and somewhere along the line, friendship turned into romance. Spending our time pulling each other out of Brooklyn back alley fights, me, Bucky and Steve thought we were invincible.”

Y/N took a moment to look around the room, hands gripping the sides of the podium where her papers were sat. Her lips held the tiniest smile at the memories of her childhood with her two best friends, her family. She remembered all of the things they used to do together in the 40′s. She remembered the time that Bucky wasted a good fifteen minuets trying to win her a stuffed rabbit at Coney Island because she wanted it. For their first date in the modern world, far away from the clutches of HYDRA, Bucky took her to Coney Island and won her another rabbit.

“When I think of Bucky Barnes I think of the kind, soft, caring, gentle, sweet man that I married back in 1939 - the man that he was until his dying breath. Since our alleged death in 1945 we were turned into puppets for HYDRA. Since 2014 when he started to regain his memories, he believed himself to be a monster. I know that he is not a monster, Bucky Barnes was and is the furthest thing from that.”

‘Deep breaths’ she told herself, ‘Take deep breaths’. Y/N cast her mind back to the day that the incident happened, it hurt so much to even think about it. She wiped away the tears that were spilling down her cheeks.

“Bucky was shot in the line of duty. And he… he died in my arms. In his dying moments he reached behind his neck and took off his dog tags and placed them around my neck, telling me that I should have something to remember him by. His last words to me were ’I love you so much dollface’. Sergeant James Buchanan Barnes died a hero, which is what he always has been. A hero, my hero. I have always loved him, that was something HYDRA could never take away from me. And it pains me to my core that I will never hear him utter those words of love again.”

There wasn’t a dry eye in the room. Whether or not they were friends with Bucky didn’t really matter, they were friends with Y/N who just delivered a heart breaking speech. The woman cast her mind back to the day that she got married. It had been a small wedding but it was perfect for them. Y/N remembered the look on Bucky’s face as she walked down the isle, he had tears in his eyes and a smile on his face.

“My name is Y/N Barnes, thank you for listening to me.”

She walked down the steps on shaking legs, trying not to collapse as she made her way back to her seat. The woman manage to walk all the way back to her seat before she broke. Tears were streaming down her face as Sam pulled her into a hug. She really didn’t want to be the clichè girl who fell apart over a boy but she couldn’t help it. How was she going to live without him?

Since I'm on here talking about great TV currently airing, please go watch Dying for Sex. (FX limited series on Hulu/Disney+ (8 eps, 4 hrs long)). Thee Michelle Williams plays a millennial woman with terminal cancer who has unresolved childhood sex abuse trauma that has hindered her from being able to ever experience an orgasm with another person, so that become the focus of her bucketlist. What does she like? Who does she want it with? HOWEVER, the main relationship focus is not on romantic partnership with a man, but the deep soul mate connection with her best friend, played by thee Jenny Slate, the only person Michelle's character wants to die with. Rob Delaney gives a career-best performance in this, and Sissy Spacek and Jay Duplass have smaller supporting roles. Liz Merriweather, of New Girl fame, is one of the showrunners, but to me the vibe of the show can best described as a millennial version of Beaches. Way funnier and less melodramatic. It also feels like a spiritual successor to Girls, which is one of my all time favorite shows that I've regretted gets a bum rap due to people's irrational hatred for Lena Dunham, who perfectly captured a highly satirical version of coming of age in the Aughts. Feminist, progressive women will eat this show up. You'll cackle hard, you'll bawl your eyes out even harder. It's a 10/10 knockout that has everything. Check it and rec it!!!!!

Miracles do happen apparently, because I recently found the link to Unnecessary Evils in my old bookmarks folder, which in turn allowed me to retrieve the stories from The Wayback Machine's grasp. So, without further ado, I bring a true gem, a hallmark of Viggorli fiction, a classic of the genre ...

Let's preface this by saying: Please do take the warning on this seriously. This is no sappy love story. This is a series in which Viggo is an aging glam rock star quite clearly past his prime while Orlando is an up-and-comer who crashed several bands because of his toxic attitude. Their managers decide to give them one last chance by having them front a band named Unnecessarily Evils.

That's the premise. And what happens when two hot alpha males are scooped up in a crappy apartment? Yes, they butt heads. And then they fuck. Quite frequently. And then they butt heads again. Rinse and repeat.

The character work in this is absolutely fantastic, totally unique and extremely interesting. Hot, too. This must be the most obnoxious and annoying version of Viggorli you will ever read. Also the most fun and entertaining. Together with their managers you will wonder whether they will either kill or fuck each other (luckily it turns out to be the latter).

Unnecessary Evils (the band) even has its own original lyrics, written by Melissa. Melissa wrote (or writes - I sure hope so) wonderful lyrics and music. I still have two of her ballads somewhere on my harddrive. One was actually about V/O.

Caveat: The series is unfinished, but I promise it leaves off in a good place. There's no evil cliffhanger and there's actually something like romance going on there.

(And if you search around a little, you can even find the manips done for the series up on the Wayback Machine. The 2000s were a wild time.)

I'm so happy I found this again. This brightened up a rather crappy week!
