O Max finalmente revelou a data de estreia de Pinguim, spin-off de The Batman e estrelado por Colin Farrell.

Em entrevista ao podcast Variety's Award Circuit, Collin Farrel confirmou que a produção terá 8 episódios.

“Será uma coisa de oito partes em torno da ascensão de Oz ao poder, preenchendo o vácuo de poder criado quando [Carmine] Falcone foi morto"; disse Colin.

"A ideia de Matt era que a série do Pinguim começasse cerca de uma semana após o final do filme do Batman. E se funcionar, se a trajetória for interessante, o público apostar nisso e fizermos nosso trabalho direito, o segundo filme continuará onde o programa da HBO terminará”, disse Colin falando onde a série se encaixaria na linha do tempo de Matt.

Vale ressaltar que James Gunn e Peter Safran falaram sobre o novo DCU e todos os seus projetos. Apesar do Batman de Matt Reeves não estar na linha oficial do DCU, a sequencia foi confirmada, assim como as séries Penguin e Arkham.

O elenco conta com Colin Farrell, Carmen Ejogo, François Chau, David H. Holmes, Michael Kelly, Rhenzy Feliz, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Deidre O'Connell, Dylan Clark, Lauren LeFranc, Clancy Brown, Michael Zegen, James Madio, Scott Cohen e Cristin Milioti, que foi anunciada no ano passado como a intérprete de Sofia Falcone, protagonista feminina da série. O projeto conta com Colin Farrel como produtor executivo ao lado de Matt Reeves, Dylan Clark e Lauren LeFranc, e com a direção de Craig Zobel.

Segundo a Variety, a trama vai mostrar a personagem de Cristin e de Colin Farrell, que após a morte de Carmine, ficam em pé de guerra pelo controle do crime em Gotham. A história vai se passar pouco tempo após o fim do filme, com a cidade ainda lidando com os efeitos da inundação causada pelo Charada.

Pinguim estreia no dia 19 de setembro.

Thoughts : Frances Ha (2012)

The film that can be a reflection of the times while commenting on the times is a true gift.  Be it Rebel Without a Cause in the 1950s, Fast Times at Ridgemont High in the 1980s, or even Reality Bites for the 1990s, there are films that, upon first glance, glorify the era they are set in.  It is only after taking a closer look at both the film and yourself that you realize these stories may land closer to the side of critique than celebration.  They are done lovingly, but they have many things to say about the times and people they focus on nonetheless.  For the post-9/11 era, one of those key films was Frances Ha. 

Frances (Greta Gerwig) is a young 20-something living in New York City with dreams of being a professional dancer.  In her reality, she is struggling to break out among the ranks of her dance company, struggling to keep her friendship going with her bestie Sophie (Mickey Sumner) in light of her wishes of moving to Tribeca, and struggling to find someone meaningful in a city full of one-night stands and surface level communication.  She briefly lives with friends Lev (Adam Driver) and Benji (Michael Zegen), and even with sparks present between Benji and herself, she still seeks fulfillment.  This leads Frances on a series of small journeys in search of what she thinks she wants, eventually forcing her to come face to face with wants versus needs.

Noah Baumbach captures 2 essences extremely well : the essence of being a 20-something with the world at your feet in New York City, and the sense of dread that comes with having major aspirations that are unfulfilled while those around you seem to be easily achieving their dreams.  His camera does not judge, instead providing a clear frame (and frame of reference in regards to those in the frame) for its inhabitants to work off of one another and themselves in very revealing ways.  That sense of what you have never being enough as long as you continuously compare yourself to others or seek gratification in others is the unseen star of the show.

The black and white, combined with the fun and bombastic music cues, makes this film very reminiscent of early Jean Luc-Godard.  The sense of irreverence is there, as is that feeling that the world is waiting on our character to make a decision so that it can fall into shape accordingly.  The situational humor comes from very real places, and the responses given by Gerwig come off as genuine and backed with feeling or conviction.  You never feel sorry for Frances overall, but you can certainly relate to the fact that her toughest obstacle is getting out of her own way.

This was my introduction to Greta Gerwig, and her performance in this film made me a lifelong fan.  She was so natural in the film that it’s hard not to imagine that France and Greta Gerwig are one in the same.  Mickey Sumner plays the role of best friend turned estranged friend extremely well, giving off the sense of putting up with someone that you love to a tee.  Adam Driver and Michael Zegen play wonderful moral opposites as temporary roommates, with Driver’s misogyny playing well against Zegen’s inability to communicate in any way other than coded teasing.  Charlotte d’Amboise plays the mentor who does not know how much stake her words hold very well, making it unclear if she is unaware of the nature of Gerwig's reactions or just choosing to ignore her stubbornness.

Frances Ha is a delightful film.  It was a wonderful breakout role for Gerwig, and it is a film that is incredibly easy to relate to emotionally and in regards to narrative.  It was certainly a sign of great things to come from Noah Baumbach, and has become one of many, many, many quintessential New York films.
