#julywrapup — minus Ariel Gore’s We Were Witches, which I had to return to the library, and which I have scoured every bookstore that I’ve been in since. I’m pretty happy with this stack! Which was made larger over the course of my birthday weekend, and also the #24in48 readathon. Still not any poetry, though! I psyched myself out by deciding to create my own poetry annual — a notebook into which I would hand write my favorite poems of the year (an idea I discovered on twitter). I made a stack of all the poetry I’d already read this year, intending to go through them to find my favorites, when it finally occurred to me — I don’t have to order the books chronologically! Anyway, there will be lots more poetry in my August TBR. . . I’ve written about most of these books already so I won’t go into much detail here. So let’s say that my favorite book this month we We Were Witches, my favorite character was Rabeya from The Taqwacores, my favorite ending from Desdemona and the Deep. I was pleasantly surprised by NevermorEarth and How the Two Ivans Quarrelled, and experienced The Moon of the Crusted Snow most viscerally. . . I love seeing all of your monthly wrap ups! So, at almost the last second, I decided to sign up for the #24in48readathon. Originally I had planned to travel to the Detroit Festival of Books on Sunday instead, but today finally decided that it was too hot, and I don’t have any book money anyway. So, Readathon with the kids it is! . This is an unusually small #ReadathonTBR for me (I like to have lots of choices!), but I think we will go to the library first thing in the morning so I may add some books then. Plus, when my oldest son gets home from camp tonight, I will probably ask him for a rec or two, as is our tradition. . I am currently weirded out that there is no sff in this stack, but nothing on my shelves was grabbing me, except a couple of anthologies, which I don’t think would make good picks for a Readathon. . #julytbr — I felt like my June wrap up was light on poetry and science fiction, so I had to make sure to have more of those in the stack this time around. Also, late in the month I’m going on a family road trip/short vacation, so I picked a few books I thought I’d likely want to bring along. Also trying to blend impulse purchases and library selections with books that have been on my shelves unread for too long. My completely ludicrous #juneTBR Listen, I am so close to finished with The Creation of Inequality, AND I AM GOING TO FINISH IT THIS MONTH IF IT KILLS ME. (It is really interesting. Just very dense and SO LONG.) Then I have a whole bunch of books checked out from the library and on a deadline. After that, I felt like last month’s wrap up was light on both non-fiction and backlist TBR books, so add that to Pride🏳️‍🌈 month and you get the rest of my stack.
