Nel primo lustro dei ruggenti 90, la Image ebbe il merito di aver rivoluzionato l'industria grafica del fumetto main stream.

I migliori disegnatori della Marvel crearono un vero proprio consorzio di artisti, proiettando la macchina dei comics nella dinamica Iron Age. Jim Lee, Marc Silvestri, Todd Mcfarlane, Erik Larsen, Wilce Portacio, Rob Liefeld e Jim Valentino crearono un vero e proprio fenomeno culturale.

Va anche detto che la Image, così come nacque, non duró molto. Ma in quei 5 anni, le nostre pupille furono deliziate di disegni e personaggi straordinari.

Uno di quelli che più mi piacque, della scuderia di Jim Lee, fu Michael Cray, Deathblow. Coriaceo combattente del Team 7, esperto in armi bianche e tattica militare, richiamava un po' il punisher, ma in più aveva una dinamica militare spinta, una grafica alla Sin City, e quel pizzico di esoterico che rendeva la serie molto più che accattivante!

Dopo pochi numeri il buon Jim passó il testimone ad un altro grande artista, il compianto Tim Sale.

Ecco qui il mio omaggio al personaggio, ed al faro illuminante della mia mano, Jim Lee.

This week's #ncbd arranged by anticipation. #justiceleague first because last issue surprised me, though it's not anything amazing and still does have some of Snyder's bad writing habits. #batman is next because... I guess we're just going to this Freeze plot now. We'll probs have the wedding addressed in some capacity, but I expected it to be a bit harder. I guess it's to show that Bruce is just moving on? #oldmanhawkeye next because it seems like Checchetto didn't do all the art and what I did see when flipping through was... eh. But hey, saw Sam as Falcon and not Cap! Still weird that Clint and Nat were a thing during Bucky Cap times. #avengers has been meh. Exposition and mostly ill-fitting art. #michaelcray trade because I dropped off this series (I basically only read what's in this trade) because I just wasn't enjoying it monthly. So, highlight of #MCCC absolutely getting to meet an art hero @babsdraws and @jijidraws, who made me an official flight certified witch. Already ordered the white out paint Babs reccomended I try. Ordered some ink and g pen too cuz feelin inspired to up my inking skills. Highlight #2 of #MCCC was meeting and chatting with @DexstarInks. I got to flat some of his work on #michaelcray which I throughly enjoyed. (Especially after seeing @dearbhlala kill it with the coloring, like she do!!) And as is always the best part, hanging out and tabling with friends. Including but not limited to @willjonesart @kristasketch @artstew_go @grumpycakess @silvertales @edebellauthor @NolanNasser and a surprise dinner with @falineelodie and Fox (Can’t remember your damned Insta username!!!) Didn’t do much sales wise, which while disappointed, still learned where I need to tweak and improve, so came out a positive experience. Definitely going to keep going with these new prints tho. Andddd I think that just about covers it, thanks for the great time everyone. :) (at Grand Rapids, Michigan)

Some Michael Cray Book 9 pages. A 22 page issue I did in approximately 3 weeks. Some have done more pages in less time. Either way, I do not recommend this course of action. Working this way, at various times and degrees during my run on the book, put me in physical therapy for tightness in the muscle behind or near my left shoulder blade for about 2 to 3 months after finishing the series. Definitely inspired me to work smarter not harder. I try to save the all nighters for inspired moments and create more space between the deadline inspired all nighters.
