Fourteen Days of MHA: Day 6
Minor Character
No fic today but I wanna gush a little about my main man Juzo:
Tumblr media
I've been on a first name basis with Centipeder for my last few chapters or so. But just look at this dude. The gloves. The antennae. The ruffles. The rizz.
Headcanons about my leggy boy:
laughs off heteromorphic bigotry but only because he's had to put up with a lot of it
goes shopping for clothes with Nighteye (his pal of many years)
connoisseur of expensive tea
enjoys Edo period art
collects houseplants
expressive gestural antennae
good/bad punster
laid-back and generous
shibari expert
gets so much pussy, seriously
physiologically incapable of sneezing
gentleman and all-around stand-up guy
🎶 For he's a jolly good fellow, for he's a jolly good fellow, for he's a jolly good fellow, which nobody can deny 🎶

What's your favorite mutation, whether visually or in general thought of design? Mine is Koda's rocky head cause it looks cool, but I also like the sorta metamorphosis thing his family has with their horns.
If we're doing ones affected by Quirks, Centipeder and Gang Orca are up there. A lot of the Mutant Quirks in the series are pretty subdued in how they affect people, so it's nice to see real monstrous designs. On the flip side, Pony and Tsuyu win as the cutest designs. There's just something so endearing about their big eyes and how their animalistic traits are integrated into their shapes. Ibara is one I really like. Besides how cool her hair is, I really like how it forms a crown of thorns around her head in a reference to her religious personality. Shoji has such a distinct look for his power, having these giant webbed arms of ever shifting body parts. It's equal parts horrific and amazing without going overboard. I think Mina is my favorite overall. It's just something that immediately sticks out in a crowd with her pink skin, black eyes, and horns. And I like how it's later revealed she's like that way because of her Quirk, with her pink skin acting as a defensive feature. Still not sure on the horns though.

Chapter eleven: Ruinous (Nighteye)
Nighteye turns thirty. The world turns upside down.
All Might undertook to make this a nice night, presiding very amiably over the birthday dinner, joking with their friends and with the waitstaff, retelling his best old stories. He toasted Nighteye as the finest sidekick in Japan, a companion in the struggle, a comfort in adversity, a comrade in victory. Gran Torino gave Mirai a sidelong glance: “Get a load of those hard c’s, kid.” But if the old hero was impervious to All Might’s charms, Nighteye found that he himself was still taken by them. There was something about All Might—this All Might, bluff and jovial, as though all the evils of the world were paper tigers—that made him want to sit closer and warm himself, the way one would nestle under a heated kotatsu table. Even knowing that his easy cheer was a pose, a pretense, he felt it, and he tried to let the comfort of it seep into his blood along with the expensive wine. At their dinner table, the spirit of the holiday season still reigned. Torino and Tsukauchi both got a little drunk and started a cutthroat game of jyan-ken-pon; All Might cheered Tsukauchi on with outsized enthusiasm. Nezu ought to have been inebriated as well, given the amount of wine he was consuming with his imported cheese, though you never could tell with him. He and Centipeder had not met before, but they took to each other immediately, as Nighteye had expected they would. “Don’t human faces look outrageous when they sneeze?” Nezu asked, and Centipeder thrummed with laughter: “It is so humiliating for them, poor things! Thank heaven my physiology makes it impossible.” Before long, Nezu had Juzo talking about his ambition to divest from the cooperative of young heroes where he worked now and start his own agency. “I know it’s a pretty big feat,” his friend joked, “but I hope all my small ones will add up.” Nezu chortled, then squeaked as though he had thought of something tremendously clever, “Perhaps you should join him, Sir Nighteye, now that you’re getting on in years! You can’t be a sidekick forever, you know!” It was a natural enough thing to say, in theory. Sidekick status befitted young heroes, virtually all of whom had ambitions of rising independently through the rankings. Few were over thirty, and fewer of those had any reputation to speak of. Moving beyond the title didn’t necessarily entail a separation from one’s mentor, personally or even professionally. Often enough, people who got along, who had grown to depend on each other—and sometimes more, as everyone knew—would formally announce a shift to an equal partnership. It had happened with Team Kazan, and the Water Hose heroes, and plenty of others besides. But for himself and All Might, such a thing was obviously nonsense. For Japan’s top hero, the Symbol of Peace, unrivaled in combat and adored in the public eye, suddenly to become half of a set, the other of whom had no physical prowess to speak of and no taste for exposure? It didn’t even bear discussion.

Could a hero who works with poisons or chemicals be possible in the MHA universe? If they aren't apart of a quirk, could a hero use them actively in combat to make up for the lack of power from their given quirk? I imagine a a good deal of training and study would be needed to use them accurately, but what is your input?
Tumblr media
It depends. If it's something that's the result of a Quirk, I could see a hero being allowed to use it. We've seen Centipeder use his natural venom with his centipedes, and Midnight's fog could be considered a chemical agent. There are also characters that have the potential to be poisonous, like how Tsuyu can make slime that can paralyze people or how Komoki could make poisonous mushrooms. However, while there is precedent for the idea, I still think that there would be some limitations to prevent needless damage. Because these kinds of effects are not super dangerous. They can be, but they are still conditions that people can walk away from. Heroes are meant to subdue people while doing as little damage as possible, both to the villain and the surrounding area. So I think a hero can use them as long as the effect is something "harmless". By that, I mean if it doesn't outright kill people or risk permanent damage to the target. For example, I do think that Komoki would have to restrict herself from making any mushrooms that could cause serious damage to a target in order to work as a hero.
If it is something not directly tied to the hero's Quirk, then I doubt that a hero would be allowed to use it. The most obvious reason is that poisons and chemicals can be unreliable and unpredictable. Poisons can very easily go wrong, even if someone has extensive training and understanding of them. It's not like a Quirk, where the user can have a lot of control over how it works. You are going to need exactly the right amount of poison to affect someone, but not to the point where it would permanently harm them. One wrong move, and you could have easily killed someone, even with poisons that are not meant to be lethal. It's also not a very practical tool. To pull this off, you have to learn everything about poisons on top of learning about your Quirk and hero work. You then have to gather all the necessary materials, put them together in the perfect way, get close enough to someone to apply it while they are fighting you, and pray you don't lose your license by killing someone. Why bother doing all that when a collapsible baton is easier to use, less dangerous to the opponent, and overall more effective as a back-up tool?
