What a difference 59 years makes juxtaposition of MG MGB GT, 1965 & MG Cyber GT, 2024. A closed coupé version of the MG Cyberster roadster has been presented at the Goodwood Festival of speed. The MGB GT was a closed version of the MGB roadster, the coupé hardtop was designed at Pininfarina. The press release hints at a series production version of the electric GTS concept. The MGB GT remained in production for 15 years, until 1980.

"MGB-GT" (Tork), live in Toronto on July 12, 1986; footage courtesy of assneck2007.
Q: “During the early dates of the 1986 Monkees tour, you performed one of your new compositions, MGB-GT. Will this song be included in the next Monkees album? Peter Tork: “I don’t know. I would like to. We’ll see. That was then, this is now!” Q: “From what sources do you draw your songwriting inspirations?” PT: “Sometimes just a phrase or a word catches my fancy. Then I hear a musical line. I try to figure out what kinds of sounds are coming out. Basically I just go by the sound. Then I try to find words that sound like they belong there.” - Blitz!, November/December 1987 “As far as I’m concerned, a lot of what I like is not commercial. But I’m bored silly by some long, long guitar or drum solo. I don’t know where anybody would get the idea that I’d rather be a bore than to have things concise. I’m an artist, and an artist must tear his work down to the bare bones. There is no room for exces in real art. As far as I’m concerned, excess is self-indulgence. That is, the narrow, limited, individualized self. Not the greater, glorious self that we all partake of. […] I love a good hook! I don’t write them very often, but I love them. I don’t intend to be self-indulgent.” - Peter, Blitz!, May-June 1980 “MGB-GT,” of course, went on to be included on Stranger Things Have Happened; more on that next month during a special series shining a spotlight on the album.

TVR Vixen
Although the Vixen used the same chassis as the outgoing Tuscan, the significant change was the use of the 1599 cc Ford Kent engine, as found in the Ford Cortina GT, developing 88 bhp. The Ford unit was selected in order to keep prices as low as possible and because of supply problems from BMC.
The Cortina unit was less powerful than the MGB engine which developed 95bhp, but it was also lighter. To use up remaining supplies, the first twelve Vixens built still received the MGB engine.
The Vixen’s bodywork was also slightly revised, with the bonnet having a broad flat air intake scoop and the rear of the car was fitted with the round “Ban the Bomb” Cortina MK I tail lamps.
The S1 was replaced by the heavily modified TVR Vixen S2 in October 1968. The S2 was built with a longer 90 inch wheelbase chassis, introduced on the Tuscan V8 but which TVR had now standardised to address complaints about difficulty of ingress. The bonnet was restyled again, with some early cars having a prominent central bulge and later cars having twin intake ducts at the front corners of the bonnet. The tail lamps were updated from the round Cortina MK I style to the newer wraparound Mark II style. Also very significant was the fact that the body was bolted, rather than bonded to the chassis, meaning it could be easily removed for repairs.
The interior was improved, with a leather-skinned steering wheel mounted much lower than before. In a further attempt to improve the quality feel, the body was thicker and panel fit was improved.
In December 1968, TVR announced that two more models, the S.2 Sport and S.2 Super Sports would be available as standard. These models came with an uprated engine from Speedwell including fully balanced bottom end, ported cylinder head and two twin choke Weber carburettors, with the Sports producing 100bhp and the Super Sports 115bhp. Both of these models came with seat belts and leather steering wheel as standard.
The S3 continued to improve the car with a number of detail changes. The heat extraction vents on the flanks behind the front wheels were decorated with “Aeroflow” grilles borrowed from the c-pillars of the Ford Zodiac Mark IV and the Ford four-cylinder engine was now in the same tune as in the Ford Capri, producing 92 bhp. Instead of wire wheels, cast alloy wheels were fitted as standard.
The S4 cars were an interim model that used the TVR M Series chassis with the Vixen body shell. Apart from the chassis, there were no significant mechanical or cosmetic changes between the S3 and S4. Twenty-two were built in 1972 and one in 1973.
The 1300 model arrived in late 1971 and was built in an attempt to fill an “economy” market segment for sports cars. It was powered by a 1296 cc Standard SC engine from the Triumph Spitfire engine making 63 bhp, and its lack-lustre performance limited its sales success. Top speed was barely 90 mph. Only fifteen were built, all in 1972. The final six of these cars were built on a M Series chassis and the very last 1300 was also built with M Series bodywork, although it never received a “1300M” designation.

007 Fest 2023 - Headcanons!
Run out the guns, it's headcanon time! Prepare for barrage! (and my first post, so forgive me if I make a few mistakes, and it's a bit late due to my personal schedule)
Bond Headcanons
James Bond is not a codename. Quite frankly, I've never subscribed to this theory. I've always believed that we jump to a slightly different universe with every actor switch. Each universe shares vaguely the same series of events, with certain commonalities. Such as…
Every film Bond has lost their Tracy, except (maybe) Connery and Craig. Moore still visits his Tracy's grave, Dalton's was mentioned to have been married in LTK. Brosnan we never know flat out, but remember - "Or if you find forgiveness in the arms of those willing women, for all the dead ones you failed to protect…" Connery represents and interesting scenario. Diamonds are Forever can be read in two ways - either Bond is out Spectre-hunting after You Only Live Twice to catch the remains of what remains of Spectre, or he's on the warpath after Tracy died in On Her Majesty's Secret Service. For the sake of this theory, let's say that the latter scenario is canon.
Brosnan's Bond used to have unlimited spending money, but then Dench!M cut the funding, hence her nickname of evil queen of numbers This is something that has some basis in the Fleming books. Bond in Casino Royale is allowed to spend exorbitant amounts of money on the Secret Service's tab - millions of francs that is. Despite the fact that in the 50s 1 pound meant 13 francs, this still constitutes a hefty amount. I remember reading that novel!Bond basically has an unlimited budget in a guidebook. I have a feeling this is similar in the movies - after all, I doubt even a RN commander's pension could afford the hundreds of thousands in monies Bond is bound to lose in the movies. Of course, in Brosnan!Bond's timeline, I have a feeling Dench!M ended up putting an end to that little scenario.
There was no Cuban Missile Crisis in the Fleming books. Rather, Operation Thunderball was the "big nuclear scare that defined the Cold War". In the movies, it's largely kept under wraps, but in the book, it eventually goes public by the end of the story. Of course, the loss of two atomic bombs in the Caribbean may have convinced certain figures in the Soviet Union that keeping their nukes in such an area would be… disastrous to say the least. So with that in mind, they decided not to bite the bullet and kept Cuba nuke-free.
SMERSH was kept around specifically to counter the OO Section in the books. SMERSH in real life was disassembled in 1946, whereupon the MGB took on its counter-intelligence duties before reformatting into the KGB in 1954. We know in later books, specifically The Man With the Golden Gun and Octopussy and the Living Daylights, that the KGB does exist in the Fleming books. However, considering how more proactive the British Secret Service is, especially with the OO section, I would hazard a guess that SMERSH was kept around specifically to combat them, at least until the KGB came into existence (which then absorbed it).
Brosnan's Lleweylln!Q did retire… He took his fishing boat to Wales and lived out the rest of his days somewhere in the countryside where they only speak Welsh (a little something @emiliasilverova and I cooked up a few years ago)
Kincade is (or at least was) married to May Maxwell For those of you who don't know, May Maxwell is Book!Bond's Scottish housekeeper. In between assignments, she and Kincade stay up in Skyfall, before Bond summons her to look after his flat until he returns. Sadly, perhaps the reason we don't see her in Craig!Bond's run is that she may have passed away at some point.
Blofeld was always a megalomaniac, but kept that under wraps... until Bond drove him over the edge
One major line of thinking I remember when I watched Tim Burton's Batman movies is that Batman is always just one step behind his villains in the crazy department, with his morals relatively intact. Conversely, we see Blofeld acting like an absolute machine in Thunderball (and all his appearances in the movies before YOLT), but when Bond foiled his plots, he slowly began to lose it. This gave way into him being more expressive, megalomanaical, and downright unconventional (biological warfare, suicide gardens, and diamond lasers) as time goes on. After all, how would YOU process your hundred-million-dollar master plans going up in smoke at the hands of a suave secret agent who always gets away with it?
Bond's favorite book is Treasure Island
John Gardner mentioned that Robert Louis Stevenson was Bond's favorite author. And with the latter writing a sea story that stars a young orphan named James, who gets involved in some epic swashbuckling adventures, it just feels right.

The 1960 MG MGA 1600 Roadster is a British sports car that was produced by MG from 1955 until 1962.
The MGA replaced the MG TF 1500 Midget and represented a complete styling break from MG's earlier sports cars. Announced on 26 September 1955 the car was officially launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show. A total of 101,081 units were marketed through the end of production in July 1962, the vast majority of which were exported. 5869 cars were sold on the home market, and the MGA was replaced by the MGB.
The MGA design dates back to 1951, when MG designer Syd Enever created a streamlined body for George Philips' TD Le Mans car. The new bodywork traded the MG TF's articulated fenders and running board for ponton styling, with a single styled envelope fully enclosing the width and uninterrupted length of a car.
The TF featured a high driver seating position. A new chassis was designed with the side members further apart and the floor attached to the bottom rather than the top of the frame sections. A prototype was built and shown to the BMC chairman Leonard Lord. He turned down the idea of producing the new car as he had just signed a deal with Donald Healey to produce Austin-Healey cars two weeks before. Falling sales of the traditional MG models caused a change of heart, and the car, initially to be called the UA-series, was brought back. As it was so different from the older MG models it was called the MGA, the "first of a new line" to quote the contemporary advertising. There was also a new engine available, therefore the car did not have the originally intended XPAG unit but was fitted with the BMC B-series engine allowing a lower bonnet line. The MGA convertible had no exterior door handles, however the coupe had door handles.
It was a body-on-frame design and used the straight-4 "B series" engine from the MG Magnette saloon driving the rear wheels through a four-speed gearbox. Suspension was independent with coil springs and wishbones at the front and a rigid axle with semi-elliptic springs at the rear. Steering was by rack and pinion. The car was available with either wire-spoked or steel-disc road wheels.
While the make (or marque) is MG, the model was named MGA by John Thornley in 1954.
This is a comparison of a 1960 MGA 1600 and a 1962 MGA 1600 MKII. Here's the further detail of the red 1960 should you be interested in seeing more of it.

Following a series of high-profile failures and mass expulsions of uniformed “diplomats,” Russian intelligence has turned to more subtle methods, including leveraging scientific organizations with international ties. One such espionage “front” is the National Research Institute for the Development of Communications (NIIRK), which is led by ex-SVR and FSB officers. In Europe and neighboring countries, the institute organizes numerous conferences and internships. Here, intelligence officers and pro-Kremlin propagandists, under the pretense of promoting good neighborly relations, spread the notion that the West is an enemy, and that prosperity lies in friendship with Russia. The main targets are promising students and young scientists, who are ultimately groomed for espionage activities.
On June 19, 2023, Moscow’s usually quiet Korobeinikov Lane was unexpectedly closed off. Athletic-looking men with radios were bustling around its perimeter. Soon, an honor guard and official cars with flashing lights appeared. People carrying carnations gathered in front of the building that houses the National Research Institute for the Development of Communications (NIIRK). The last to arrive for the festivities was SVR head Sergey Naryshkin, who presided over the installation of a memorial plaque for former SVR director Vyacheslav Trubnikov. Speeches followed: “Vyacheslav Ivanovich worked here for two years,” “an outstanding intelligence officer and diplomat,” “a legend of intelligence,” “a knight of the Cold War,” and so on.
Before the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917, the house was home to actors Alexander Lensky and Alexander Yuzhin-Sumbatov of the Maly Theatre. Later, it was occupied by the NKVD, MGB, and KGB; the mansion hosted clandestine meetings with agents. After 1993, several businesses were based there, but over time, the place fell into disrepair, and homeless people took over the vacant premises. In April 2020, the restored mansion became the new home of NIIRK. Cars belonging to the embassies of Central Asian and Transcaucasian republics began appearing outside.
What kind of institute is this? According to its website, NIIRK’s primary mission is “the development of multilateral dialogue among peoples, cultures, religions, states, international scientific and educational organizations, and civil society to strengthen peace and harmony.” The institute’s expert research and analysis are utilized by the Presidential Administration's Office for Interregional and Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, foreign aid and cultural exchange agency Rossotrudnichestvo, the FSB's 5th Service, and the SVR.
The institute’s first official director was Irina Zavesnitskaya, co-founder of the PoiskSidelki LLC. A year later, she was succeeded by her husband, former FSB general and overseer of the Transcaucasian region, Vladislav Gasumyanov.
Friends of the Kremlin
As per The Insider's findings, over the past eighteen months, NIIRK has organized a total of twelve off-site conferences, forums, and roundtable discussions across various countries including Armenia, Georgia, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Transnistria, Tajikistan, and Slovakia. Moreover, NIIRK has welcomed several delegations from these nations to Moscow for internships, with plans to host approximately ten more this year.
The institute primarily targets young scientists — aged 20 to 40 employed in research or academia. As one Armenian student shared with The Insider, “Throughout the internship, we were constantly reminded that without Russia, we would be doomed to become slaves to the West. Once, they casually asked me if I had relatives in Europe. Upon hearing my negative response, they lost interest in me.”
Key speakers at these conferences include General Gasumyanov, former SVR Academy head Nikolay Gribin, and former Slovak Prime Minister Jan Černogurský, who chairs the “Friends of Crimea” association. Černogurský frequently appears on Russian propaganda TV shows, where he advocates a pro-Kremlin agenda for his country of citizenship while predicting the imminent collapse of the dollar and the subsequent disintegration in the United States.

I’m not sure if it’s okay to ask, but can you explain to me how Qs work? And how many Qs does it usually take for the series to wrap up? I’m just trying to gauge MGB air date, yes I’m desperate 😩 Joss said in an interview that it will come end of year or early next year but I genuinely don’t know how their scheduling is cause I don’t think Joss is filming anything else and I could have sworn perfect 10 liners was done and Gawin isn’t even a main, so what’s the damn hold up?
filming schedules are complex lol, the main component is locations, meaning scenes are sorted by where they take place, along with other factors like required staff and (tech) equipment etc., the coordination of which is crucial for cost-efficiency. Scenes are accumulated by sets and are thus filmed out of order. In my experience, depending on the complexity of the scene(s), a shooting day can include 2-3 different locations. Q is short for queue which refers to the lineup of scenes that are shot in 1 or more locations, usually in the course of one day. So 1Q = 1 shooting day. A show of 12 episodes usually has between 30 a d 35 Qs, depending on the parameters I mentioned. If you want more in-depth info, here's a reddit thread on the topic.
MGB is different from your typical high school bl lol, they have more things to take into consideration than just locations and schedules etc. so it surely won't come anytime soon (for now). Joss' end-of-the-year forecast sounds very optimistic to me but we shall see. as far as I know him and Gawin are not filming anything else atm - Perfect10 Liners is not done by a long shot but it seems that Gawin has already completed his Qs (or is taking a break). so their schedules should be free but the genre is unexplored territory for most of the cast + crew, they took their time with the script so it makes sense that they want to be diligent with the filming process too. so let's be patient ✌🏻

According to Gawin, there are only 4-5 shootings left for MGB and he is optimistic it will be out early next year. He said they are almost done filming. If he is right that means that MGB is only 24-25 Qs. Does that mean it will be a shorter series? Since GMMTV series usually take 30-35 Qs?
yeah that's what I thought, mgb has been filming for a while now so it's no surprise they're close to being done! so the thing with Qs is that they vary per locations. 1 Q = 1 location. meaning if a show has a recurring location (like the university or mark's mansion seems to be for mgb), it means one Q probably took weeks to film all the scenes for it. so I'm not sure mgb is gonna be shorter than other shows tbh, considering they've been filming for about 3 months now which is very average if not slightly long for a gmmtv show. in my experience, judging the filming time is more accurate than the number of Qs. however, even if the show is 10 episodes, I'm okay with it bc shorter shows tend to have tighter writing & I enjoy them tremendously. also they have a bigger rewatch factor since they're faster to get through lol. but I really think we're getting 12 eps, and I can't wait for 2025! ❤️
