Digital Fashion Week - A One Time Only Event?

Just a few @guaizine reflections about some of the opinions from the experts panel:

..."we are not going to get into a pandemic again"... well, I would not be so sure about it, and I think that is the main reason why we should get digital fashion weeks seriously and realize about the potential they have as a format if we manage to take advantage of it in the proper technical way. Those designers still presenting traditional runway shows have different audiences, broader ones, in comparison with smaller brands where the designer as a person is not as important as the product itself. For these smaller brands digital fashion weeks become crucial, as they represent the only -effective- way to reach a client; direct one or an eventual retailer.

..."give the youth more control of the creation"... this is a very good point of view, and I am pretty sure that many of the people involved in fashion for years, -for generations actually - like happens in many of the houses that take part on the MFW for example, had or still does have that great idea of bringing new blood to their business in mind too, but I am pretty sure also that such a thing won't ever happen if that “old” generation do not effectively see that the new one has the proper tools to make it work.

..."Brands are forced to bring their narratives to people and audiences"... Yes! that is right and that suppose to be the right way to approach the digital fashion week from a brand point of view, that is why I was surprised about not hearing about brands like MSGM or Zegna XXX, that having a quite sharp knowledge of their audiences manage to arrive directly to the core of it with a couple of beautiful presentations undoubtedly effective, taking a few steps away for the storytelling and focusing way more on the product itself, a product that seems to be made for their very specific buyers, and not focused at all on trying to generate trends during the next season. Playing safe is always a valid way of being part of the game.

Another interesting point of view is the budgets brands have to put digital shows online, and is obvious that a bigger budget gives you the potential to do something better in theory but this is not always the case and this is the perfect opportunity to bring the Magliano presentation to the discussion, a low budget presentation with an original collection presented is a creative way, nothing was left behind, and everything works as a perfectly executed puzzle. The video is simply a video art piece, that gives to a group or fashion insiders with an unique point of view the task of sending a message to an audience they know well so they manage to address them exactly what they are expecting from the brand, going even further away by pushing forward the brand appealing with content that to me is interesting to look at also to people who is not actually interested in fashion.

..."I really didn't watch a lot of the films and stuff...because they are so much content to sort of digest"... and? so? What do you think editors do then during fashion week? How can someone build some criteria to later go and write a piece to be posted or published if it is not by watching in this case, or attending in person to every single show in each city season after season? How can you give an opinion about a fashion week by only looking to a few instagram feeds of two or three brands? would that be the proper way to approach a panel discussion?

About Philipp Plein, Pierre was quite clever about going further instead of giving it time to be discussed. I have the feeling that the main reason why we still listen about him and his "work" during every fashion week is because with plenty of resources you manage to survive even if people only talk about you to criticize what you do. Maybe a bit less attention will give him the chance to reflect on his strategy and realize that maybe he has a market -obviously he does have one- but fashion weeks are not the kind of platform his brand needs and that huge budget can be invested on design or marketing.

About Etro doing a physical fashion show instead of a digital one in a city that has been suffering so much during the last months, I think is a topic very difficult to talk about especially if you are out of the social, economical and even political context of it. So I will leave to the brand itself and their PR team to deal with it, but also will avoid giving my free opinion about it on social media because saying that the event was inappropriate because I saw people not wearing masks for example is not only superficial but shows a huge lack of understanding of the context of the industry of fashion in the country, of the circumstances of the city today and so many other topics that goes beyond fashion. So saving the social media hubs our opinions about it I guess is the right attitude towards an issue we all know so little so far. Let's focus on fashion guys, please.

..."The people who were invited to Etro...most of them were white"... how can we be surprised about this in 2020?, there is not much black people involved in fashion, it is been like that for decades, so for me the element of surprise has no place at all in this discussion, what should be the brand doing instead? Inviting a bunch of random people just to make the show look diverse? I think the problem we need to face here once again is the lack of diversity in people involved in the whole industry and not in a particular fashion show that happens to take place immediately after the world has been facing weeks of protests that fight racism. Ironically seem to me like is way more honest a show like that, than the attitude that the most of the brands adopted for digital fashion week trying, desperately to look "inclusive": Being "inclusive" in fashion in 2020 according to digital fashion weeks, from Russia to Paris is "to exclude", Yes, exclude automatically from any fashion presentation or show any blonde model, as simple as that, Go for it and you instantly become "inclusive". Sounds exactly like a few years ago when we saw in the industry suddenly loads of oriental models to reach runways, presentations, and magazines after the fashion insiders finally realized that the oriental market was exploding and greeting western fashion and lifestyle as never before.

About the @gucci presentation and "...who would wear that"... is funny that after years of Alessandro Michele, a panel with plenty of stylists think that way about the brand and seems not to have done the exercise of to look at the clothes produced by the brand and designed by the designer and his team, properly, closely and separately. They all seem to stop instead at the styled looks they get from a magazine, or sadly once again, from the brand's instagram feed...

Let's move on..."There are a lot of brands struggling to survive, struggling to sell"... I agree, that is not a secret to anyone these days, But ironically you only had time to "watch and digest" two, maybe three digital fashion shows and they were of the biggest brands, so? What is the point here? won't those small brands be struggling less if we all will be talking more about them? showcasing them more on our websites and YouTube videos? "watching and digesting" more of their design and ideas? Don't you all guys think that would be a more fair approach to it, and without a single doubt an easy and effective way to "help" them?

..."Milan is always a step behind Paris"... please, let's be careful about this kind of opinion because we risk to look like people that see and live fashion -once again- from and around Instagram and Tik tok. The only reason why Paris and Milan are different is because the brands they showcase are different between them, different because they have different audiences, different markets, different targets, those factors make the difference and are not the trends they generate or not after the runway shows the relevant matter on this issue.

About Versace, the approach I agree was quite good, very much attached to the times. But I still have the feeling, even a few days after, that they missed a huge opportunity to make something great! They have everything that they need to make a video successful, but the director seems to be behind on the timing of the scenes, and rhythm was the big absent on the film, the whole final product seems lacking energy and action, which seems to be difficult not to be able to reach with such a vivrant tune, an stunning dancer, and good clothes - either you like the brand or not- at the end the whole looked more like a music video and not as a fashion presentation. With probably a huge budget you would expect a pretty much perfect piece of content, especially if in the past, smaller brands like Grace Wales Bonner, did stunning pieces like Practice, directed by Harley Weir and Grace herself and Devonté Hynes as a collaborator, demonstrating that is not money to make the different in this cases but talent mixed and balanced in the right way is.

The collection was presented under the title of "flash" because it was a "see now, buy SOON" collection and not a "See now, buy now" since as you mentioned it was not very successful at the end a few years ago. Keeping on Versace, I agree Gianni Versace was one of the main designers of the 90's but saying today that the brand needs to be given "expertise, fabric development and technical design" sounds to me a bit irresponsable. If you want "something a little bit new" I suggest you once again to look and focus on NEW brands, If we like -or not- brands like Versace is because they manage to keep a concept during their history and they try their best to present it in a different way season after season; sometimes they reach better results than others, ( becoming a "miss more than a hit" ;-P ) but at least there is a constant attempt on going beyond fashion and transforming those ideas more into a lifestyle for the people that likes, follows, and more importantly buy the brand products.

Moving into the JW Anderson presentation I heard ..."A designer explaining the meaning behind it...we do not get that from the designer mouth anymore"... come on, that is what designers do to press right before every single fashion show is about to start, and they do it once again to press and buyers after the show ends, is part of the fashion protocole, it is been happening for years, decades, so you will get that from "designers in the future" still, there is nothing to worry about.

A final word goes to Pierre A. who I talked to very quickly on Twitter to express my feelings about this round up discussion and he mention that "a live panel is not an easy exercise (specially on Zoom)" and of course underlining that it was his first time doing it, but from my very personal point of view you managed very well, in this cases one of the most important things to keep in mind is to give space to your guests and you definitely mastered that bit! Very well done! <3

Hi, my name is Daniela. So, I've just been stressed out lately. I'm in high school, and I'm taking AP exams, and after that, it's finals for all my regular classes. Im a junior, so it's the most important year of college. After my finals, you make think I'm done. Haha, nope! I have college applications coming in and out, SAT and ACT scores, and on all that, my parents are getting a divorce this summer, and my Best Friend is moving. Everything is moving so fast, I need help. (Anyone from MFW)

This is too fast for you to deal with all at once. The exams. College applications. Your best friend is moving. The upcoming divorce. A heavy sigh leaves your mouth the same time you hear some shoes clipping your way. You tilt you head a bit to see a young man with glasses.

"Hello," he greets. "My name is Kyoichi Kunishiro. I'll be your host today. Would you please come with me?"

You nod then take his offered hand. He leads you to a table next to a window laden with a few mini cakes and a plate of warm cookies beside two steaming mugs of hot chocolate. After you take the seat Kyoichi has already out for you, you let out what you didn't know was you umpteenth sigh.

"You've been sighing ever since you came in," Kyoichi notes, making you look up. "What is it that is bothering you?"

The way how he was direct is somewhat unnerving but you take a deep breath before telling him what had been bothering you since you finished your AP exams. You see him pull his phone out at one point tapping away before it goes back to his pocket.

"Apologies. We don't have AP in Japan and I haven't heard of it during school in Britain either," he explains.

Japan? Britain?

"Please continue," he nudges.

You roll your eyes then finish with your friend moving and your parents' upcoming divorce. You didn't realize that Kyoichi was sitting there until you look in his direction. His cold yet frightening expression almost had you falling off the chair. He pushes his glasses up with his middle finger then starts to speak.

"True you are at a busy point but you forgot to make time for yourself," he speaks, tone flat.

Time for yourself?

"When things get too hectic, you need to step back and rest for a bit then start moving again," Kyoichi clarifies. "You have those finals coming up but if you have done all that you can to get ready for them, then you are more than prepared for them. Those AP exams may have some materials that are relevant to the class they are with. Take the study tools you used with them to prepare for those finals. That's some of them out of the way. Those SAT and ACT tests are based off what you know. Find study materials like practice exam books or programs that will give you the best chances of getting a higher score."

That is giving you little relief.

"Those colleges... research about them. If you know what direction you are going with your major then look at the colleges that will fit what you need to learn for those majors," Kyoichi continues. "In Japan, you need a certain score to get in on your entrance exams for college. It's not easy. And if you've narrowed it down but still haven't made up your mind, ask if you can tour the campuses and meet with an academic advisor to see how things will turn out for you. Or if there is an orientation happening, take one of those. Orientations Are the best opportunities to see what it's like living on campus and what the campus is like. There are many options but it's up to you to make the final choice based on your research and effort. Yes it takes time but it is worth it in the end."

Orientation? ... maybe. Just maybe.

"Your best friend is moving but that doesn't mean you can stop communicating with them. Send emails or set up a day to talk over the phone or by texting. It may be an old fashioned idea but letters are good too. The emotions behind them are what make them great," Kyoichi advises.

You point out about Japan and Britain.

"When I was little, my family moved around a lot. I grew up in different cities. I didn't have many friends other than the ones I left behind in Japan," Kyoichi sighs. "There was a point where I did high school in Britain before moving again."

Oh. That makes more sense on why he said those places.

"Your friend may not be that extreme in distance to where she's moving but it's the same idea of keeping in touch," Kyoichi frowns.

You ask him why he is frowning.

"My parents separated when I was young... I haven't seen my father as much as I'd like. It was because of my mother's health that he left. No papers. No arguments. He just left," he mourns. "I still haven't made peace with him."

Oh...

"If you were close to either of your parents, communicate with them. But don't give up on finding a new life," Kyoichi continues. "Divorce can cause emotional damages so find help in the form of a therapist or a psychiatrist. They can help you with the emotions that come with divorce. If you have to deal with new half siblings if either decide to remarry, accept them as if they are your family already. They've been through the trauma of divorce already and think that they are alone and confused. Be their friend and their support. Even if they don't appreciate it or accept it, in the end they will realize that when things got rough you were there for them."

Huh?

"A family by blood or marriage isn't your choice but your reaction to it is your choice," Kyoichi advises. "You can refuse to acknowledge them or accept them. They are a part of your life now. Be strong and believe that no matter what happens, there is always a better tomorrow or future."

Breath of the Wild Update Post

I played a lot of Breath of the Wild at work today since it was pretty slow, and while I could technically register my Switch on the wireless network at work, it wasn’t working for me the last time I tried (and the way they reformatted the system we use to register devices on the wireless network prevents it from giving a specific error message), and I got fed up with trying, so I just saved all of these screenshots until I got home tonight. Then I took a nap after work and, well, here we are, hours later. Nonetheless, I’m still going to give an update, and this will be a bit image heavy, but hey! Sometimes that makes it fun. (Although maybe it doesn’t, because every time I post screenshots I lose followers but . . . oh well. My blog, my posts.) Also, though this is image heavy, there’s pretty much nothing plot related (aside from talk about the Divine Beasts, but even then, nothing character / story-specific). It’s all adventure talk (like most of my posts, I feel, tbh).

First up, this is my wasteland coyote friend that I mentioned before. Or, well, I wanted to be friends, but he had a different idea. (Note: I’m only holding that weapon because I had just finished fighting a moblin; I would never hurt a canine.) I literally took this screenshot with the intention of posting it with the caption “MY NEW FRIEND,” and then he attacked me. =( I refused to attack him, though. I just ran away and climbed a nearby mountain. IT’S OKAY, COYOTE. EVEN IF YOU DON’T LOVE ME, I LOVE YOU A LOT. WE’LL BE FRIENDS IN MY HEART AT THE VERY LEAST. </3

I also made a post last night about the Blood Moon, and today I was able to take screencaps of it in my own game (rather than using a picture off Google Images). Here’s a picture of what it looks like when it’s rising.

And here’s what it looks like when it has risen. SEE HOW MUCH WORSE IT IS THAN THE TERMINIAN MOON? Though honestly, it really is the music that makes it the absolute worst. The scare chords and all just . . . afjdkslafdsagds. Fucking hate the Blood Moon. W o r s t.

Before I began my voyage to the Aurora Borealis (that I thought was a memory point), I saw this from atop the tower in the wasteland. I have no idea what it is. Is it Skyloft, placing this closer to Skyward Sword on the timeline? (I really doubt we’re near Skyward Sword---I’m actually holding serious thoughts that we might be on the Hero Dies timeline---but it’s a possibility.) Is it the city in the sky from TP? Is it the Divine Beast that the Rito control? (I have reasons for wondering about that, but more on that in a second.) I have no idea, but I took a picture (well, screenshot) because it warranted attention.

At one point during my voyage to the Aurora Borealis I made it halfway up a mountain when it started thunderstorming like crazy. I unequipped all of my metal weaponry once Link started sparking . . . and then I was just stuck there for something like two days in-game because you can’t climb when it’s raining (or well, you can, but you won’t make it very far because Link slips and uses up a ridiculous chunk of stamina every time he does), but I also didn’t want to climb all the way back down because I felt that climbing the mountain was the best way to get to where I needed to be. (I also legitimately had no idea how far this point was when I started out. Literally I thought it was much closer to me than all the way across the map. Oh, the things you learn . . .) So yeah, I was just stuck on that little part of the mountain. At least I found a little bit to stand on while I waited out the rain?

Real Heroes don’t look when lightning strikes just behind them.

It was while I was standing on that patch of mountain that I discovered this golden beacon which, no, is not one I placed (or else it would show up on the map, like the red one). I have no idea what it is, but the fact that it is white-gold and so close to the castle intrigues me greatly. Is it the Master Sword? Is that where the Master Sword is?? I honestly wanted to go investigate, but finding my “memory point” (read: Aurora Borealis, though I genuinely did not realize that at the time) came first, and by the time I realized that there was nothing there it was too far to go all the way back. (I mean, I could have, but I would have been wandering for even longer. Plus, it’s so close to the castle that I feel like I’d probably die if I went after it now, especially if it is the Master Sword because you and I both know I’m not going to be allowed to have that until after I’ve secured all four Divine Beasts.) Still, I took a picture since, again, it’s worth taking note of.

You present me with a what now?

Okay, so, this was also during my voyage to the Aurora Borealis. I was just running through the fields, minding my own business, trying to get to this point I had marked on the map, when ALL OF A SUDDEN I am stopped and this ominous voice tells me that I have reached “[the] land of thunder” and that I was being presented with a trial. Mfw:

The Ominous Voice™ went on to say that once all four spirits were in place the trial would begin, or something like that. Well, I was on a Mission™, and it had started to storm heavily again (fitting, since it’s the Land of Thunder™) so I couldn’t have any of my weapons equipped, so I just said “um, yeah, pass” and kept going right on through. I saw a red orb on top of a pillar that I’m sure is one of the spirits, but I honestly don’t know. I wasn’t about to fuss with it. I had places to be.

(Also, you see all of those mushroom pillar tree things? Yeah, so, it did not stop storming at all for like three in-game days while I was there, and finally I found a way around the mountain range in the far back to a place where it wasn’t storming so that I could continue progressing---but at one point I tried to climb the mushroom tree things. It took two of them getting struck by lightning, each time while I was on them, for me to realize that it didn’t matter if I had metal equipped or not. Trying to climb those in a storm resulted in them getting struck by lightning, simply because I was on them. Good to know.)

Anyway, as mentioned in the voyage post, I eventually made it to my destination, realized there was nothing there, activated a tower, completed a shrine, and have finally warped all the way back to the wasteland tower so I can continue onto the Gerudo. I did waffle for a bit, since my place in the tundra (the ACTUAL TUNDRA, I went FROM THE DESERT TO THE TUNDRA, I JUST---) was pretty close to another Divine Beast (and again, I’m guessing the Gorons, but that might be the Majora’s Mask fan in me talking), but I don’t feel like doing a snow level right now, even if I’m honestly in a better position to do snow than desert (since I have more cold resistance food prepared than heat resistant food. If the Gerudo area is too hard I’ll warp back to the tundra, but for right now, it’s time to MEET THE LADIES.

Oh, but first:

I saw this thing stomping around the desert after I warped back to the wasteland tower. I’m pretty positive that’s the Divine Beast. A cutscene that initiated as I made my way across the desert, in which this thing ominously stomped around while glowing red (with blue feet) tells me that, yeah, this is the possessed Divine Beast.

Please don’t kill me.

My Football Writer editor Gary Gowers introduces Rewind Norwich and recounts one of his most memorable moments.

To borrow one from Bob Monkhouse’s joke book (now you know who stole it), nostalgia isn’t what it used to be - but what it is, is the lifeblood of the @RewindNorwich Twitter account. And now there’s a website – except you already know that because you’re here!

For those of us of a certain age, it’s a Twitter account that has triggered memories and anecdotes aplenty - always a particular joy during the fallow times – and while we clearly don’t enjoy the rich and wonderful history of those down south (as if), it’s nevertheless a rich vein when you start venturing into the Canary annals.

The brief was to pen a few ‘nostalgic words about a favourite goal, game or player’ but when you’re of said certain age, to arrive at an all-time favourite anything is nigh on impossible – decide on your favourite player and if you think hard enough you’ll find one you like just as much if not more. Ditto games. Ditto moments. Ditto goals.

So, while what follows is not necessarily my favourite ever City game, and it’s certainly not an original thought (sorry), it’s one that’s up there and, more importantly, is one that I can just about recall in sufficient detail to pen a few words on it.

It needs no introduction really, because for those of us who were alive and suitably compos mentis in 1985, March 6 was one of the nights and produced one of the goals.

A combination of things made that particular Wednesday evening so special: Steve Bruce’s header, the sound of hearts breaking hearts in the away pen, and the small matter of it being a win that took City to Wembley for only the third time in the club’s history. But so too the fact that at that time I was studying at what was then known as Suffolk College of Higher Education every Friday in a class jam-packed full of Ipswich fans.

For a City fan in his late teens who then still possessed the fearlessness of youth, it was manna from heaven (if I’m still allowed to say that) and made for a Friday March 8 like no other – although I paid the price a few weeks later when City were relegated!

But, regardless of the petty point scoring it induced, it was a night that was almost indescribable – after reading this you may decide it was totally indescribable – partly because it took place in an iteration of Carrow Road that was far far removed from the all-seater, digitally enhanced version of 2018.

Just five months earlier a fire had mysteriously ripped through the Main Stand, mercifully when it was empty, and the Carrow Road of 1985 housed supporters in just three sides of the stadium. The Main Stand, while revealing many of the scars from the fire that would ultimately see it demolished and replaced, was still standing but was virtually empty, making for the odd juxtaposition of three pulsating, raucous stands set against an eerie backdrop of a stricken, empty, largely noiseless shell.

The surreality didn’t end there. The changing rooms – once neatly tucked under the Main Stand – were replaced with a two-tier portacabin arrangement that was perched on the corner near the River End; exposed to all and sundry and ripe for wall-banging from passing fans, in either anger of joy. The joy of City fans that night as they made their way home would have made the noise inside deafening.

They were simple times though and the ol’ girl would have won few marks for artistic impression that night.

The scene was set for this particular encounter eleven days earlier when the first leg – oddly played on a Saturday afternoon – saw Town give City a proper Portman Road pummelling but emerge only with a 1-0 lead, courtesy of a Mich d'Avray goal.

Given it was a Saturday and this then teenager played football on Saturday afternoon’s I was blissfully unaware of events at Portman Road – we were playing in a Suffolk County Cup quarter-final in Great Cornard – but a blue-inclined team-mate took great delight in putting an arm around my shoulder as I trudged off after a narrow defeat.

“Mich d'Avray … 1-0”

“Bastard”.

But it could have been worse – a pummelling and just a 1-0 defeat was, as it transpired, a bonus.

As you’d imagine, the three sides of Carrow Road were bulging that night and the air of expectancy palpable. I watched it with two mates from behind the River End goal - the lower part was without seats back then - and the shoulder-to-shoulder, swaying crowd was a far cry from the library-dwelling, soup-supping, hyper-critical ‘Regency Stand’ mob of today (I’m allowed to say that because I’m one of them).

The tension was almost unbearable and the fact that a goal for our friends in blue would have virtually rendered the tie done and dusted made for varying degrees of agony any time Town ventured anywhere near City’s penalty box. But Dave Watson was heroic, Steve Bruce obdurate and Chris Woods unflappable

And it was City who were asking the questions. Up front, Mick Channon and John Deehan were constant thorns in the side of a defence that contained Terry Butcher; on the right wing was the unpredictable but lively Louie Donowa on the other Mr Mark Barham; in the centre of midfield one Asa Hartford was pulling the strings.

It was a display full of fire and brimstone; the nefarious figure of Eric Gates bristled, a whole new level of spikiness. Watson and Bruce were unmoved. Hartford up for the fight.

And then it happened. The equaliser. A scruffy one. As if that mattered.

Dennis van Wyck floated one into Deehan who mis-controlled but, via his heavy touch, the ball squirted through to Channon. With his back to goal, the England veteran teed up Deehan, whose shot gloriously took a double-deflection off Butcher and Ian Cranson before looping over a helpless Paul Cooper.

Scenes. Even in the River End.

The tension levels were still marooned on eleven, anxiety at a twelve. Early in the second-half Alan Sunderland found himself through one-on-one with Woods. Town’s moment had arrived. The River End held its breath.

But Sunderland choked. Six years earlier he’d scored an FA Cup final winner in the yellow of Arsenal. This time he fluffed his lines. Carrow Road breathed again.

It toed and froed but City always looked the most likely. And then, as thoughts started to turn to extra-time, it happened. A right-foot in-swinging corner from Barham, a perfectly timed, unchecked run from Bruce and the rest, as they say, is history.

Ironically, City’s two protagonists had had a dress rehearsal late on in the first-half but on that occasion Bruce’s header was down into the ground and Cooper clawed it away. Second time round and it was perfect. The delivery. The timing. The connection.

It was the stuff of dreams, but a dream that was being played out for real in front of our very eyes.

One corner of Carrow Road – the one with a hint of blue – fell silent. The rest of it exploded, including a small band who had found themselves housed in the one safe area of the Main Stand.

And a few minutes later the dream reached its glorious, joyous and uber-celebratory conclusion. Keith Hackett’s final whistle signalled delirium. The pitch was gradually flooded with an army of whooping, celebrating and barely believing foot soldiers; every single player being mobbed en route to back to the portacabins, among the masses a few dots of blue, heads bowed.

Once the players had made it to the sanctuary of the portacabins, the wall-thumping built to the aforementioned deafening crescendo; great if you were in the victors’ changing room, less so if you were mourning a 2-0 defeat and a missed opportunity.

It’s one that will forever stand the test of time, for all of the reasons above but also because it led us ultimately to what was then the club’s finest hour.

Ken Brown’s tenure as City manager never, in my eyes, quite captured the imagination in the way others have since, and that’s a shame. He was a good manager, he is a good man, and he put together a team that gave us one of the great nights.

Little did we know then it would take thirty years before we could sample more of the same.

Self-described informative and interactive crypto website, Zy Crypto, a nonprofit based in England, believes it has struck ecosystem gold by discovering Satoshi Nakamoto’s real identity. It’s the second attempt by the outfit, and both times they’ve relied upon stylometry before concluding that Bitcoin Cash developer Gavin Andresen is Satoshi hiding in plain sight. This go-round analysis involves not only statistical analysis of prose, but also Maciej Eder’s bootstrapping method in an attempt to eliminate natural bias in such conclusions.

Bitcoin Cash Developer Gavin Andresen Is the Real Satoshi Nakamoto

Two upfront admittances, if readers indulge. The first is, I am a Troy Watson fan. I enjoy his work, and count myself as someone who approves of his earnest dive into such subjects. Second, I have probably read more about the present pseudonym under examination than is healthy, and not just because I make my living in the space. Flatly, I am obsessed. No clickbait here, or not intentionally. No hype. This is a fun pursuit, and one worth some effort as it involves cryptocurrency’s origin story.

Zy Crypto is a curious little outfit based in a lesser-known part of the United Kingdom. They’ve the site proper, a news aggregation service, and what appear to be variations on the public relations themes of initial coin offerings and blockchains. To publish one, let alone two articles asserting both times how Bitcoin Cash developer Gavin Andresen is Satoshi, for once and for all, speaks volumes about either the confidence Zy has in its writer or the fact they’re sporting for clicks.

Consider this sentence, hitting readers right between the eyes: “We identified Bitcoin Cash developer Gavin Andresen as being the real Satoshi Nakamoto,” Mr. Watson boldly asserts before an immediate pivot towards technique. The primary methodology used in both examinations is what’s known as stylometry. It’s the study of prose put up against other writers as a way of determining patterns and is an actual predictive of authorship when done well.

Stylometry has picked up in recent years as an investigative tool when faced with the spectre of Satoshi Nakamoto. The pseudo anonymous creator of Bitcoin holds more than five percent of bitcoin in circulation, making him the first crypto billionaire. Should Mr. Nakamoto decide for shits and giggles to dump a significant amount of coin onto the market, not only would the price drop by virtue of economic law, confidence would probably crash as well, bringing down a giant chunk of whatever value bitcoin has. It’s a big goddamn deal who Satoshi is.

Stylometry’s False Positives or Conclusive Hits

The technology to out a writer wishing to remain in has proven its worth. In the mid 1960s, Frederick Mosteller used stylometry to establish authorship of the hotly contested Federalist Papers, determining James Madison as their probable main author (instead of Alexander Hamilton). It took him almost half a decade, whereas today software exists to run such analysis pretty fast. More famously, and recently, no less an author than zillion-selling Harry Potter creator JK Rowling was found to be the actual author of The Cuckoo’s Calling. A few years ago she wished to have her writing evaluated on its own merits, and so Ms. Rowling took a pen name. Stylometry outed her.

Satoshi?

And Zy Crypto isn’t the first to attempt applying the statistical method to Satoshi’s true identity. As bitcoin’s price began to skyrocket, so did interest in who its creator might’ve been. During Craig Wright’s supremely odd public display, outed by supposed hackers, claiming to be Satoshi and then suggesting it was a hoax, a couple of once well-regarded tech journals believed Mr. Wright to be Satoshi. International Business Times employed the very firm used to blow Ms. Rowling’s cover, Juola & Associates. They soon determined what most in the know suspected: Mr. Wright wasn’t bitcoin’s father (he’d respond that he and partner David Kleiman collaborated on the project, but even that has been posthumously tainted). He managed to fool or convince or onboard original Bitcoin dev Gavin Andresen, who went so far as to record video testimony (Vitalik Buterin, Ethereum genius, weighed in on the noise of the matter, and later just outright spat fraud in Mr. Wright’s direction).

Late 2017, price fever pitch reached maximum overdrive, and Michael Chon took his own swing at discovery. The Georgetown University and Booz Allen Hamilton alum concluded Satoshi was a group of devs, with some authoring the whitepaper while others engaged in email exchanges. He narrowed it down to four: “Nick Szabo, Ian Grigg, Wei Dai, and Timothy C. May.” Gavin Andresen wasn’t considered, a subject to which we return.

Mr. Watson details how “using Eder’s bootstrapped stylometry method…this finding supports our previous article on the topic that also identified Gavin as Satoshi using Principal Component Analysis and Burrows’ delta.” Knowing full well the history I’ve outlined above, he concludes, “A big part of this failure can be attributed to the lack of convergence validity in the stylometry field.” And a pitfall within the field itself is how “stylometrics often cherry pick results due to their algorithms producing vastly different results when slightly tweaked,” he acknowledged. This led to suggesting Wei Dai as Satoshi, at least for a time.

Using Stylometry Analysis I Have Discovered I May Be Satoshi Nakamoto

This time, Mr. Watson’s confidence in Mr. Andresen as Satoshi extends from Maciej Eder, who “created a bootstrapping method specifically designed to overcome the problem of cherry picking elements like Most Frequent Words (MFW). The approach uses Burrows’ delta to find a difference between two texts, but also uses random sampling of MFW ranges so as to output more robust results. Burrows’ delta is basically a manhattan distance of z-scores which is sourced from a list of top words used in an entire corpus.”

The rest of the article reads similarly, and the interested would do well with frequent searches of Wikipedia. Nevertheless, he’s “found that the first nearest neighbour was Satoshi’s email texts followed by 3 of Gavin Andresen’s Github documents and then followed by Satoshi’s forum texts. These findings are quite reasonable because not only do they validate the links between the Satoshi whitepaper-emails-forums but they also cluster Gavin as the likely author. It’s also of interest that Gavin’s style was so much like Satoshi’s whitepaper that he beat Satoshi himself with the forum texts!”

Still more discussion of limitations and technical methodology follows, and those without a statistical or mathematical background are cautioned. It’s somewhat like reading French if you don’t speak French. Yeah, there’s the standard Latin alphabet and all, but that’s about as far as most will get. Again, Wikipedia is a friend. I don’t buy it in the end, and have instead relied upon resident ecosystem muckraker, Crypto Cornelius, as my prime response. “I have identified Myself,” he typed in the patois of most these studies, “an amateur crypto enthusiast as being the real Satoshi Nakamoto using Yeder’s bootstrapped Coronary Angiogram stylometry method. This finding supports a previous thought when I woke up one night and thought ‘Could I be Nakamoto?’” Sides splitting, tears dropping on the laptop as I type to you Dear Reader, he continues, “Nano Stylometry was invented by Elon Musk and is a set of methods that aim to identify an unknown author by statistically deciphering their style using statistics, hard to understand graphics and random information.” For geeks like me, good old Cornelius is necessary to bring us back to reality. I am fucking exhausted. Somehow yesterday was more tiring than V-day. I didn’t do that much. I did do a fair amount of flying around at top speed though. At one point I straight up forgot I had a job on me for like almost an hour. They called me on the radio like “yo did you take that up” and I was like “yeahhhhh???” and then I checked my bag and it was still in there. So I flew up to the state building in like 5 minutes, maybe the fastest I’ve ever done that run. Most of the rest of the day was chill though. Started out with a north flower. Then just state work.

My stomach is very unhappy with me right now. Haven’t had breakfast yet. HRT has made me hungry allllllll the time. I used to be able to not eat for a whole day. Like if I didn’t have money or I was in the middle of a 24-hour panic attack and couldn’t leave the house. I could just sit there and not eat. After starting mess work I needed at least a slice of pizza or a burger but not much else.

Now I wake up practically doubled over in hunger and can’t go even a few hours without some kind of food. Yesterday A recommended these beef bulgogi bowls they sell at one of our standby spots. He was like “it’s 6 bucks and enough for 2 meals.” I ate the entire thing in like 5-10 minutes. After having already had something from the chicken and waffle spot an hour or two earlier. My ass is gonna be huge lmao.

I’m also just not feeling very upbeat in general, like I was saying I’m exhausted. Some mornings I wake up and already feel good. Today is not one of those days. I don’t think I’m going to do any work this weekend. I’m just going to lay in bed and try to recover from the insanity that was this week.

Payday today so that’s nice, I checked earlier and it’s already in there from direct deposit. Bossman hasn’t been taking the payments for the phone so it doesn’t look as fat as it would otherwise. But it’s still a good amount. Still waiting on the tax return. IRS must really be struggling to adapt to the new rules set by the republican tax reform legislation.

My goal for today is to just stay relaxed, try not to let my physical condition allow me to get agitated. I did that a bit yesterday and it wasn’t cool. After work we went to the park where the local punks chill, not far from my house. There was a lot more people there than I thought would be. Like probably 20-25. I didn’t say much, just rolled a fat J and smoked it with the messfam and then drank some Bulleit and left.

I think I’ll put on some of my beats or something and maybe that’ll liven me up a bit. So glad I remembered to charge my speaker last night, I recall doing that right before I passed out. I’m looking at buying some audio equipment to try to get started on a real recording setup, probably some XLR mics, a pre-amp, some sound paneling. I just learned about how to use Audacity’s noise reduction features. I had no idea it could do that. That will probably help my voice sound a lot better.

Fuck.... did I even dose last night? Holy shit I didn’t.

Ok I’m not going to freak out. This was a stupid mistake that won’t happen again. Forgetting an E dose is not as bad as forgetting spiro. But Jesus Christ. OK. I need to change something to prevent this. I even left the park at 8pm so I could make it back here in time, knowing it would be too weird trying to hide a dose in front of all those people. Fuuuuuuck. Well I feel really stupid now, that’s a great way to start my day. I not only forgot to drop a package for almost an entire hour, I also forgot my PM dose. Good job. Wow.

I’m gonna say no more chilling after work for a while. Straight home. I’ll say I’m getting serious about music, I have to go home to work on music. If I manage to complete my doses correctly for a couple weeks or whatever then we’ll see what happens then. It was just so nice out. But wow. Wowwwwwwww. I had it on me that whole time.

The top 5 Milan Fashion Week trends are actually wearable

Milan Fashion Week had many memorable moments. From Donatella Versace‘s ode to her brother Gianni in an epic supermodel salute to Alessandro Michele’s convoluted yet hypnotizing world of Gucci — the fashion collections at Milan were at times beautiful, strange, and incredibly exciting.

And most surprisingly, the hottest trends were wearable, starting with leather — in the form of jumpsuits, skirts, dresses, trousers, and accessories, all spotted throughout MFW, from Fendi to Gucci.

Pop graphics, like those popularized by Andy Warhol and used by Gianni Versace in 1993, were reimagined in Donatella’s tribute collection to her late brother. Miuccia Prada’s show embraced womanhood and featured comic-book illustrations that were screen-printed onto her clothes, displayed within a venue surrounded by the work of established female comic book artists.

But one trend that you can actually try today is pajamas as ready-to-wear. PJ sets in bright, colorful prints were on various runways, from Emilio Pucci to Etro, and Blumarine. In fact, a few fashion editors forecasted the trend by stepping out to shows in their own pajama sets.
