The Villains' Pastime: Gourmet Food Highlights

Another day, another event focused on the LOV and their targeted psychic attacks on Skeptic's blood pressure (+ ReDestro's wallet)

The event starts with the gang fully embracing the freeloader lifestyle: lounging around and playing cards, ordering premium food on the PLF's dime, and doing absolutely nothing to actually help out with running the organization they violently took over like a week ago.

Everyone praises Tomura for being good at cards, with Compress and Twice wondering how he can be so good at reading others even though most of them are wearing masks. Jin then proceeds to shout out what his hand is, solving part of the mystery behind Tomura's undefeated winning streak in record time.

They want to play another game, but Tomura shoots them down bc it's close to noon and he's hungry. They agree to stop playing cards and get some lunch, and start talking about what sort of gourmet (read: expensive) foods they should try next. Tomura breezily talks about how nice it is to finally have money to burn (he's the worst ♥️), which inevitably summons Skeptic from the fourth ring of hell to bitch everyone out about wasting the PLF's precious funds.

"Thanks a bunch~" If Skeptic murks you in your sleep, you really only have yourself to blame Mister.

No one does "endearing in a criminally insane way" quite like Tomura. 😬

Trumpet senses that things are about to get ugly (or that skeptic is about five seconds away from a full blown hypertensive crisis) and intervenes, suggesting that they play a game of cards-- If Tomura wins, the PLF will foot the bill. If Skeptic wins, they either have to pay for their own lunch or just go hungry.

Tomura (quite predictably) says "fuck that" and tells Spinner just to go buy them lunch at a convenience store.

Tomura lightly bullying his friends and making unreasonable requests is nothing new, but this one strikes me as hilariously mean spirited even by his standards bc it’s also implied Tomura expects Spinner to foot the bill on top of all that:

Trumpet eventually convinces Tomura that it would actually (read: obviously) be faster to just settle the issue with a game of cards-- Tomura finally gives in, and they settle on a game of blackjack.

Compress explains the rules of blackjack and offers to deal the cards-- Trumpet shuts this down immediately and says that HE will deal the cards, thank you very much:

Tomura and Skeptic begin their game, and Tomura quickly makes it apparent that he approaches blackjack with the same suicidally reckless abandon as he does pretty much everything else:

Out of context MHA, eat your heart out.

Spinner, Compress, and Dabi all worry that Tomura has drawn too many cards and is gonna lose by default, but Jin and Himiko both express their faith in his abilities as an ill-gotten bread winner (<3)

Tomura and Skeptic both reveal their hands, and we hard cut to the aftermath where the LOV are gushing about all the high quality meat they bought on the PLF's dime while Skeptic seethes in the corner.

So far, she really hasn't.

I know that many people love her. Some love her arc, how she develops emotions and the need for a familial bond. Others love how efficient she allegedly is, how utterly loyal to Eggman she is even after she grows a heart. I know this, but there is nothing about her that appeals to me. She's bland, quirkless (she supposedly told Eggman one joke, offscreen), repetitive in her dialogue, the discount copy of Rei Ayanami and more blatant about it than the Death Egg, and her sacrifice for the sake of her "father" was literally nullified twice over.

Oh, you enjoy her because she develops emotions? Gamma is literally right there. And his sacrifice stuck. And I got to play as him and experience his change of heart. Frontiers' story is just a half-baked SA1, and that game already needed more time in the oven. no you cannot @ me.

And we talked multiple times how she's actually not as impressive as the game makes her out to be, and by all means, Eggman should have lost his patience the moment she kept insisting that he needed to team up with Sonic, like he did when Infinite disappointed him one too many times. mfw in the Japanese script, Eggman ends up saving himself from Cyberspace because Sage is that incompetent lmao

And the writing itself flipsflops between "Eggman is only proud of her because she's so impressive that it shows how great he is" (mostly in the missable memos) and "Eggman genuinely cares about his daughter and cries when she has to die and call her his daughter and adorable and holds her hand in the DLC and genuinely ponders whether she likes being called 'she'." It's... forgive me for the joke... wildly inconsistent :P

^ the thing is not that he assigned a gender to a creation of his, because he calls most of his robots "he", it's nothing new. The thing is that he actually stops in his tracks and questions if Sage would prefer "she" over "it". It's that he cares about her opinion, when by all means he shouldn't give a single shit about an AI's preference.

Then you add how fans, already juiced up over years of discourse on Mr. Tinker, took this undecisive writing and decided that this is proof that Eggman was Not So Bad After All, that he has a good heart deep down, that this sudden love for his "daughter" is what finally makes him human and tridimensional! They Fixed The Bad Character! Now yes I shouldn't base my opinions on the fandom, but as I said, if Flynn's intentions were to paint Eggman as a self-centered creator, he did a very poor job, because there is a reason the voice director ordered Pollock to sound like he was in tears when he said lines like "I understand. Go, fulfill your function".

And the kicker? Sage hasn't made a meaningful appearance yet. She cameo'd in MOSTH, looking sad and red/black instead of blue/white, and she's nowhere to be seen in Eggman's dreams in Dream Team, which lowkey implies that he actually doesn't love her as much as it seemed like in Frontiers.

but in the Takeover that everyone will take as gospel, Eggman says that she is the reason he keeps existing. Who wrote that. How can you put those words in that order in Eggman's mouth. And fans not only gush about how cute this is, but roll their eyes that Sonic is bored at this wildly OOC display of affection.

Sure, as a character she barely existed for one year, there's plenty of time for her to come back and finalize Eggman's direction. But yeah... so far she hasn't done anything to ingratiate me.

Pokemon Black Nuzlocke

So for the New Year, I decided to finally attempt a Pokemon Nuzlocke, and am gonna keep track of my progress here, along with a few Blusky updates. I might try and upload a few clips if I can manage it as well. I have never played the Gen 5 games, so aside from doing some basic research on Gym Leaders and Boss characters I am going in pretty much blind. I also started this run a few days ago (pretty much on Jan. 1st) so this update comprises Gyms 1 and 2.

For those unaware, the rules that I am sticking to are the generally agreed upon of a standard Nuzlocke:

I can only catch the first Pokemon I find on a Route. For this I am assuming this also includes alternate methods of travel such as swimming encounters along the same route or fishing, and that side areas along a route count as separate zones. I am also assuming that finding the same pokemon on a new route locks me out of that route.

If a Pokemon faints in battle, it is 'dead' and must either be permanently boxed or released. I have opted for the former

All caught Pokemon must be given a nickname (a practice I have been following anyway)

So with that, here we go

-Named Dani -Always pick grass starter, so got a Snivy (Stringbean) -Route 1 caught a Patrat (Ratricia) -Route 2…. found another Patrat so no catch for me -mfw i remember that Pokemon usually has different types when playing at night so annoying when i found a Purrloin i couldn't catch while grinding on Route 2 -Went to Dreamyard, was just gifted a Panpour (FunkEMonkE) -Beat the gym with Patrat in the lead, Panpour taking care of Pansear -Go back to Dreamyard with Cut and first encounter…… is another patrat. right before running into a Munna. so. -Route 3 FINALLY a new catch! Caught a Pidove (Prince)

The Team just after beating Gym 1. Deaths: 0

-in Cave, caught Roggenrola (PatBenatar) -FunkEMonkE died while training on the area outside Pinwheel Forest :( -Lenora fight almost got REALLY FUCKING BAD lol. Had PatBenatar set up for the fight with Rock Smash, but when i realized their damage output is Bad with it I panicked and swapped out to Ratricia. She dealt with Herdier pretty handily with the Hypnosis/Crunch 1-2, but when her own Watchog came out it hypnotized ME first, almost killed Ratricia with Retaliate, so i swapped in for Stringbean to tank so I could heal Ratricia, who ALSO then almost died to Retaliate (literally 1 hp left) before I swapped in PatBenatar, who kind of tanked before getting Hypnosis'd and ate Crunches while I swapped between healing her and Ratricia, hoping PB would wake up, but it never happened so I finally bit the bullet and pulled in Ratricia, who managed to dodge the Hypnosis this time before getting one of her own off, which finally let me seal the deal after Lenora did a super potion with 3 Crunches in a row. -Caught a Venipede (Juri) in Pinwheel Forest

REGAINING THE ABILITY TO WATCH GORY/SUPER VIOLENT STUFF WITHO IT FEELING NAUSEOUS!! Big win for me this year. after covid I developed a whole bunch of new and fun anxieties and every time I watched something violent or gory or even slightly medical I’d vividly imagine how painful and horrible it would be if that happened to me. For some reason I decided to watch The Boys and it literally exposure therapy’d the anxiety away…now I’ve been rewatching American horror story >:3

GETTING A JOB I was extremely nervous about both acquiring and carrying out the tasks of the job but it’s all turned out very well. mfw I get a job I enjoy and it also pays well. I’ve only had it for a month but a steady paycheck/somewhat steady schedule has done wonders for me

this is nothing new but my beautiful angel fiance @lesbiangallagher always keeping me happy and laughing and making sure I don’t eat too much hot sauce. nobody I’d rather watch wicked and eat sushi with than you baby 💕

recently discovered the magic of mechanical pencils and I feel like it’s about to take my sketching to a whole new level

all the great deals I got at various stores this year but especially Aldi. items from Aldi have made this house a home. I binge watched extreme couponing and finance YouTuber this year and it’s changed the game..I still lowkey have a shopping problem but I spend a lot less because now it’s more of a game of how I can get the best deals. I’ve been waiting for a cat bed to drop in price at petco for months. That shit is not moving so I know if I wait in the tall grass soon I can get it for at least 30% off. once I bought a cat tree for $5

I decluttered and improved my cleaning skills a lot this year, cleaner space cleaner mind happier home ect. My housewife game is off the charts

since we started with a silly one I’ll end with one: I got a tamagotchi connection for xmas and forgot how much I love playing this thang. I’m way better at the games than I was at 10 years old try not to be too impressed
