What Does Your Blood Taste Like?
Tumblr media
Salsa Roja
Your blood tastes like salsa roja, a hot sauce made primarily from tomatoes and chili. Prominent flavours: fiery garlic (ouch!) and piquant cilantro.

This query is based on your post regarding the age of the eldest Ortega. You mentioned Isaac having a different dad, albeit maybe jokingly. But he does look different from all the other siblings. More melanin, straight pointed nose, narrow face…wonder if he does have different parentage. They’d never say though. Especially not Natalie
Tumblr media
See, they had Mariah as teens and then waited about six years until they started breeding nonstop in April 1997.
Or did they....
Genetics are weird and sometimes you can get that random kid in your fam whose genes express like someone else's from your line but branched. Maybe he looks like Ed's uncle or cousin or something like that. It happens and yeah, I was joking but...I mean, after six years Ed was likely already on the force by the time Isaac was born.
Tumblr media
100% they probably joke about it too ("You're adopted! LOL!" ... >_> ) but you're right, they'll never say, just as they never say how old Natalie was when she dropped Mariah. They won't talk about the problem of teen pregnancies in the Latino community because "God works in mysterious ways"/"it was God's will" and it's never about personal responsibility or human-driven desires and behavior. Latinas have the highest rate of teen pregnancies (it's ~double that of the national average, even though teen pregnancy is generally down right now). It is a cultural problem, a machismo and religious problem that has carried on throughout the centuries.
I've been meaning to talk about this subject (the subject of Latina teen pregnancy) for a while, even before I contemplated the Ortegas/Mariah. Somewhere in my drafts I have a long post about that TikTok Latina who has 3 children and she's only 17.
My father, who is Mexican mixed with a shitload of other easily traceable things (like Spanish, Greek, Italian, German, and Irish...he is a goddamn melting pot) recently yapped at me about my aunt/his sister and how they "begged her not to marry a Mexican when she was young because they'll treat you like a slave and expect you to be a baby machine" (😭😭😭😭😭 he's 82 and has no fucks to give). I'm guessing he said this because it's what my Mexican grandfather did to my grandmother, but my grandmother wasn't having any of it and only gave him two kids (father and aunt) and refused to behave like a lady (she went over to her sister's house with a bat when she heard that her sister's husband was hitting her and threatened him...mind you my grandmother was this 5 foot tall spitfire back in the 1930s).
Anyway I digress as I yap about familia here...the Ortegas have done really well for themselves after having been in that situation (as it seems, and as we can observe throughout their years since they're pretty public); with the right support, teen pregnancy isn't inherently bad. From my time listening to Aliyah yap on her Lives, she's defended teen moms and teen motherhood at least twice. I found that weird since the topic each time never even got that deep, and it was almost like it was in passing. Passionate, but in passing. What're we gonna do in any case, it's been 33 years and that misdemeanor has long passed.
One thing's for certain about them... they're a short ass family. Aliyah was measured at 5' 3" most recently. You must account for the sand and the heels here but this pic is telling about height when you use either Aliyah or Gizmo for the metric

They're miniatures LOL
and once again, Aliyah > Jenna

The Triple Alliance: An Empire of Obsidian and Blood
"They make a desert and call it peace." -Calgacus
When the Spanish arrived on the shores of what today is Veracruz, they heard rumors of a great capital city of gold, full of fearsome warriors that required victims for the bloody altars of their hungry gods. History has come to call this polity that ruled much of what today is Mexico the Triple Alliance. What was the structure of this empire? How did it rule and what did it value? Can we even call it an empire at all?
As is often the case in history, the rise of a new, great power requires the fall of an older power. Before the rise of the Mexica and their city of Tenochtitlan, the dominating political force was a city called Azcapotzalco. As the great regional power, Azcapotzalco in effect ruled the valley, and demanded tribute and fealty from the other city-states in the area. After years of wandering and working as hired soldiers for more established nations, the Mexica had founded their city Tenochtitlan on an island in Lake Texcoco. Tenochtitlan was still a relatively new city, seeking more to stay safe rather than to dominate. Persuaded to align with a more established city-state, Texcoco, and another nearby kingdom, Tlacopan, Tenochtitlan and the others rose to fight a war to overthrow Azcapotzalco as the hegemon of the Valley of Mexico. It was a great gamble, because to lose would mean at best enslavement and at worst annihilation. Politics in ancient Mesoamerica was never a gentle sport. But the Three T's won, overthrew Azcapotzalco, and became the great power in the region the Spanish would encounter when they arrived by boat from Cuba in 1519.
In her excellent book, Fifth Sun, Camilla Townsend writes a new account of the history of the Mexica people (Aztecs). The great question is: How exactly did the Triple Alliance of these three Nahuatl kingdoms work? Was it even an empire by our Western definition? Townsend does a better job explaining it than I ever could, so I will quote her in full:
"The kings of Tenochtitlan (of the Mexica people), Texocco (of the Acolhua people), and Tlacopan (Of the Tepanec people) now ruled the valley as an unofficial triumvirate. There was no formal statement to that effect. Later generations would say they intiated a Triple Alliance, even though in a literal sense there was no institution. In a de facto sense, however, there most certainly was what we might call a lowercase triple alliance. No one moved in the central valley without at least one of these three kings being aware of it, and beyond the mountains that surrounded them, in the lands they gradually conquered, they had many eyes. They worked together to bring down their enemies; they divided the resulting tribute payments judiciously between them. The Mexica, with the largest population and having played the most important role in the war, got the largest share, but they were careful not to engeder resentment among their closest allies by taking too much (46)."
Conquered towns and cities were allowed to maintain some level of local self-government, as long as they paid tribute, and sent able bodied men to participate in public works, such as building roads or great temples. Many empires often seek to impose their culture, language, or religion on people assimilated into their empire (there is a reason much of Europe speaks Latin-based languages today). Was the Triple Alliance interested in "civilizing" or changing its conquered people, like the Spanish Empire that would in turn conquer them? Not so, Townsend writes:
"'This was no Rome,' one historian has commented succinctly, meaning that the Mexica had no interest in acculturating those they conquered, no desire to teach them their language, or to draw them into their capital or military hierarchy (47)."
In this sense, we could say the Triple Alliance were more like the Mongols, accepting of other gods, languages, and ways of life, as long as their overarching soverignty was acknowledged and their taxes paid. Like all successful empires, the Triple Alliance recognized good ideas when they encountered them, culturally borrowing (or stealing) ideas and practices from their neighbors and conquered peoples. The Mexica were in awe of the Olmecs and Toltecs and other long past civilizations of the region, and incorporated their religion and arcitecture. The Mexica considered the Maya to the south to be a political and cultural force in decline. But the Mexica admired the accomplishments made during their Golden Age and borrowed their writing system and based their calendar on Maya astronomy. Like the Romans, the Triple Alliance would wipe out rebellious towns and "call it peace", but they would rather these people be alive, paying taxes, and worshipping whatever gods they wished.
In fact, it was in part this relatively loose empirical arrangement that allowed the Spanish to conquer the Triple Alliance and siege Tenochtitlan. The Spanish were able to back a different rival prince for the throne of Texoco, Ixtlilxochitl, and divided the Triple Alliance against its self. Monster though he was, Hernán Cortés knew how to play different groups against each other for his own benefit.

Writing Reference: List of Aphrodisiacs
Tumblr media
Here is a brief list of some of the foods that have been considered, at some time or other, to have aphrodisiac qualities.
Almond - As well as being the same shape as the vesica piscis, the sacred doorway through which matter emerges into spirit, the almond is a nut and therefore carries the potential for new life.
Aniseed - Falls into the category of seeds. Also aids digestion and sweetens the breath which could explain why the Romans considered it a useful ingredient for seduction.
Apple - Infamous as the fruit that Eve gave to Adam, a symbol of sexual awakening.
Asafetida - (or Asafoetida) This is the ground root of a fennel-like plant. It has a powerful odor, and despite its folk name, Devil’s Dung, it is used as a sexual stimulant in Ayurvedic medicine.
Avocado - The Mexicans called the avocado tree the “testicle tree,” since the fruit dangles down in pairs. The sensual texture of avocado adds to its reputation.
Tumblr media
Banana - The banana flower resembles the phallus. Islamic tales say that Adam and Eve covered their sexual parts with banana leaves rather than the more common fig leaves.
Cherry - Sensuously red and juicy, and containing a potent symbol of new life inside the stone. “Popping the cherry” is a slang term for losing one’s virginity.
Chocolate - The melting point of chocolate is the same as that of blood temperature, and so its mouthfeel alone is a sensual experience. Added to this, chocolate contains mood-lifting substances, including phenylethylamine which, when released into the bloodstream, induce feelings of euphoria. Still arguably the most popular food given as a gesture of love. When the 16th century Spanish conquistador Hernán Cortés heard about its reputation as an aphrodisiac, he planted two thousand trees.
Cinnamon - The glorious scent of cinnamon was reputedly used as oil by the Queen of Sheba to help her capture the attention of King Solomon.
Cloves - Because they resemble little phalluses, cloves were considered to enhance male potency. The clove tree was planted to signify the birth of a baby boy in certain parts of Indonesia, the health of the tree reflecting the health of the child as it grew up.
Tumblr media
Coriander - Also comes under the category of seeds. Reputed to stimulate appetites of all kinds.
Fennel - The Egyptians who used this as a sexual stimulant cannot have known that it contains plant estrogens that can help balance female hormones. These estrogens also enhance the breasts.
Fig - The plethora of tiny seeds inside the fig is symbolic of fertility, and the moist plumpness of the fruit has a very sensual, feminine element to it.
Ginger and ginseng - Considered to have aphrodisiac powers because of their sharp sensual taste, and because their roots resemble the human form.
Honey - The sweetness of honey made it a rarity for ancient man. It is likely to have given humankind its first instance of alcohol in the form of mead, and its intoxicating effect has distinct aphrodisiac qualities. Bees are themselves symbols of fertility, and honey gives its name to the honeymoon period spent by newlyweds immediately after their marriage.
Tumblr media
Mint - A Greek legend says that Menthe, a beautiful nymph, was transformed into the herb because Persephone was jealous of the beautiful scent that captivated her husband, Pluto.
Oyster - The oyster’s resemblance in form, scent, and texture to the female genitalia is renowned. Oysters have had a long history as an aphrodisiac and their reputation is well known. The pearl that is sometimes found inside the oyster was said to increase the powers of arousal, because it resembles the clitoris. Other shellfish, such as mussels, fall into this same category.
Raspberries and strawberries - Libido enhancing because of their color, their many tiny seeds, and their resemblance to nipples.
Star anise - Because of its shape, the star anise was sacred to the Goddess and therefore a potent fertility symbol.
Tomato - Also called the “Love Apple” and is regarded as an aphrodisiac, because of the prolific number of seeds contained within it. However, the name itself is the result of an accidental misinterpretation. Because they were originally a yellow color they were called “Pomo D’or” in Italy, the Apple of Gold. It was also called the “Pomo d’Moro”—the apple of the Moors, referring to its Spanish origins. From here, it was just a slip of the tongue to the French, “Pomme d’Amour,” or Love Apple.

Hi! I'm new to your account, but just binged your "I bet on losing dogs" storyline, and I had a question and concept for you? How much is the reader free to interpret? I'm a theater kid, so I like her hobbies. But is there any specific physical traits you're writing for her? I know you mentioned that we were/are chubby, which is cool, but do you imagine any certain features? Because I'm Mexican American with certain features, so I was curious if you had a certain ethnicity set for her besides being half White/Jewish from Bruce being her biological father.
I also had the same question about Tiffany, because I'm currently imagining the Stereotypical All American girl. Kinda got that Disney Channel actress vibe to her. (Physically). I also had this really messed up though of the reader having to spend YEARS trying to keep in touch her mother's culture and such, learning dishes, traditions, going to local festivals by herself, having to learn how to do makeup and hair styles/products that fit her face and hair pattern. No one bothered to help or teach her. But than, suddenly Tiffany starts to steal those "habits", uncaring if they were very personal to the reader. Than everyone in the family suddenly starts to like the Reader's culture and such. (I had this scene in my brain where the Reader walks in on Tiffany is bragging about some music or dish "she" tried out from the Reader's culture, while the family are all happy and curious about it. Even when the Reader tried to introduce it to the family, everyone declined even trying it.)
I see the Reader so "Your Best American Girl" coded by Mitski.
Anyway I just wanted to ramble, bye!
ok so, I'm trying to be as vague as possible bc reader is supposed to be whoever is reading so there's no in depth description or specific height or build (except chubby in the prologue). i feel like i've basically made reader an OC which i hate but personally when I'm reading a fic, I just ignore things if I don't like them or they don't apply to me which is what i suggest yall do!!
the reader's mother is Palestinian/ Venezualan, like my own mom but you can change it if you'd like. it's important to mention that reader does have Bruce's jaw structure and face shape and shares facial features with Damian as well. It's small things like the ears, the roman nose, even the eye shape, point is that every time reader looks in the mirror she can see shadows of Bruce and Damian on her face. it's kinda like the vibe of "like him" by tyler the creator. I'm middle eastern and hispanic so I imagine reader with darker feautures like tan skin, thick brown hair, arched brows and long lashes but it's all up to you!
reader is very confused because while her dad is white, she isn't. she did try to bond with Damian and learn Arabic with him but he shamed her for not knowing and kicked her out his room, literally. she used to be embarrassed of her heritage when she was younger (courtsey of Tiffany calling her a mutt) but as she got older she realized how interesting her culture is.
she wants to learn arabic but has no teachers and it's a pretty hard language to learn if you don't grow up speaking it .she has no sources to help her and most of the time culture and traditions are things you grow up with and are passed down to you from family. her mom used to speak to her in arabic and feed her dates and sandwiches with olive oil and sugar and make her fried plantians so those things are very special to her, they're some of the only details she remembers about her late mother. so yeah reader is very "Your best american girl coded"
You're so on point about Tiffany, she's your classic all American girl. Blonde hair, blue eyes, long tanned legs and a set of pearly whites. she's the kind of white girl to act like she cares about other races but is secretly racist. you know what girls im talking about! and that prompt you sent with the food eats so hard, I have a scene mapped out with that in the upcoming chapters. I rambled too girl!!! you really got me thinking tbh but let me stop and actually write the next chapter.
