Thinking self-indulgent thoughts regarding the 141 boys and their little quirks with a spanish speaking reader. Some stumbling through their accents, some begging for more, some keeping their own knowledge of the language secret. I might come back to this later...

VAM Rally AMX, 1983. AMC cars were built under licence in Mexico by Vehiculos Automotores Mexicanos, a government owned automaker that had to have at least 60% locally sourced parts. The cars came with different exterior and interior trim from their US counterparts, the AMC Spirit became the VAM Rally. The were powered by locally made versions of the 282ci (4.6L)  AMC straight-6 engine. In 1983 VAM was taken over by Renault from the Mexican government

Brand Identity for Mama Mexa by Seachange
Mama Mexa is a brand new pop-up taqueria, serving up delicious healthy fast food that celebrates family, friends and fun.
Strategically Seachange wanted to create a solution that embodied the spirit of Mexican culture, but avoided the obvious ‘Mexican pastiche that typifies most Mexican canteens because they all seem to look the same.
Looking into Mexican history, they discovered the importance of Mexico’s flora and fauna which is home to many of the world's most exotic blooms. In Mexican culture, flowers and flower arranging are steeped in symbolism, rituals, myths and celebration from ancient times to present. Home gardens, markets, shrines and altars come alive with an abundance of colourful bouquets.
Sechange took inspiration from this, and created a totally bespoke and overly flamboyant wordmark, which evokes a sense of floral bloom, bursting at the seams. Each letter comprises a set of varying width petals, giving it an eccentric energy.

japanese/mexican wolfwood is the best (and i think most correct) not bc of any design reasons but bc of his clear passion for good ramen and the way he evidently carries around a bottle of tabasco in his pocket

@the-most-pathetic-edge-marquis I was thinking of your tags about María’s outfit in my art and thought I’d share the inspiration behind it.❤️
In case anyone else was wondering where I got the idea for the outfit I drew for María. It was inspired by the dresses commonly worn in Baile folklórico. María loves dance and she has definitely attended many of the “Ballet Folklórico de México” ensemble concerts.
Because I have the hc that she makes her own clothes, often using old techniques (she learned from the best lol) to stay grounded and close to her culture. I also hc that she made that outfit, inspired by the pretty dresses she’s seen in dance but she gives her outfits a more ‘modern’ twist and added her own sense of style to it. She’s a hot girl, would you expect anything less?
Here are some pics w/sources that visualize the idea:

VAM Lerma, 1981. Vehiculos Automotores Mexicanos were a state-owned automaker that manufactured AMC models under licence in Mexico. In addition to making a range of AMC models VAM also used bodywork from several AMC models to make a Lerma. It had a chassis, some body panels and doors from the AMC Concord sedan, but the rear used the AMC Spirit's hatchback bodywork. The cars were made by hand, modifying existing mass production panels as well as creating some new ones, to create 3 and 5 door models. They were the flagship cars in VAM's range, powered by a Mexican made version of AMC's 4.6 litre straight 6. Their model life was short, the Mexican economy hit trouble in 1982 and VAM faced bankruptcy. They were taken over by Renault's Mexican subsidiary and one of their first actions was to cancel the Lerma. Apparently AMC did consider creating a US version of the Lerma, but felt it would take sales from the Concord Wagon.

I think they keep calling clawdeen biracial cuz they're getting Race and Ethnicity mixed up
She's technically still mixed, just Ethnicity-wise only
Yeah that's probably it, it's just...really confusing?
Like as biracial person who knows a lot of biracial people who are also made up of different ethnicities it's really...awkward. And I know this kind of thing can be very confusing, but I'd expect a multi-million dollar company with a "diversity expert" or whatever would know better. (It's almost like...you shouldn't rely on a single white lady to handle your diversity...who'da thought???)
There's still a chance that her parents themselves are both biracial, which I could believe given their appearances.
Other than that my only other thought is that it's another huge disconnect between the dolls and the show. And the movie, now that I think about it. Neither of the actresses that her portray her are afro-latina to my knowledge. Clawdeen being biracial and afro-latina has only mentioned in regard to her dolls from what I can remember.
Idk, this new gen is preaching diversity but being so messy and confusing about it. That's why personally I've been pretty skeptical about whether or not Mattel actually cares, or are just using it as a cash grab, which would explain how surface level some of it is. Don't get me wrong, I do fully believe there are people working on this reboot who do genuinely care, just not Mattel as a company in itself.
If they really do care, they'll listen to what fans are saying and make the necessary changes to ensure actually good representation. Good representation shouldn't be so messy. Kids should be able to confidently look at a character and be able to say "Hey! They're just like me!"
