@the-most-pathetic-edge-marquis I was thinking of your tags about María’s outfit in my art and thought I’d share the inspiration behind it.❤️
In case anyone else was wondering where I got the idea for the outfit I drew for María. It was inspired by the dresses commonly worn in Baile folklórico. María loves dance and she has definitely attended many of the “Ballet Folklórico de México” ensemble concerts.
Because I have the hc that she makes her own clothes, often using old techniques (she learned from the best lol) to stay grounded and close to her culture. I also hc that she made that outfit, inspired by the pretty dresses she’s seen in dance but she gives her outfits a more ‘modern’ twist and added her own sense of style to it. She’s a hot girl, would you expect anything less?
Here are some pics w/sources that visualize the idea:

#I also linked the art in case anyone didn’t know what I was talking about lol 😂#she comes from a culture like this and ppl really think her aesthetic is only a boring ass dark black & red? be so fr lmao!#our girl loves color and florals and patterns like that’s literally what she grew up around#not to mention she adores the sun she doesn’t care that she’s a vampire at all lolz#she’s literally Captain of the idgaf war#also she totally creates and sells these culturally authentic clothes with her own personal ‘modern’ twist for the girlies 🇲🇽💖#It’s basically like ‘Herencia Clothing’ that brand with all those cute clothes that have the most beautiful cultural designs#maría my beloved#maria#maría#twilight#the twilight saga#maria twilight#twilight maria#baile folklórico#ballet folklórico#Mexican folk dance

A bit of music from northern Mexico, including some polka revolucionaria, with some local ballet by the most famous Mexican folk ballet company. For no particular reason. Please note how the music definitely isn't a joropo venezolano.

Can I ask a platonic fam oneshot about Velvet and Veneer with a lil siblings that does folkloric dance?
Im sorry I just find funny the idea of a kid reader doing la danza de los machetes when they big siblings are super famous 😭
But any folkloric dance it's okay lmao
You can ignore this request dw, please drink water and rest all you need, virtual hugs 🫂🫂
Velvet & Venneer’s Lil sibling who does folkloric
Pairings: Venner and Velvet X Reader (Platonically)
Warnings: Swearing, Crimp abuse, Fluff
A/N: This one is fun to write since I didn't know what folkloric dance was at first before I listened and watched soem videos about it and it was so lovely! sorry it's short im so sleepy!
- Velvet and Veener superstar artists who were glamorous and then there was you... In the background just vibing as you eat some food before looking towards your siblings who sweat drop at you - Veener and Velvet buy you your costumes for your dancing cause they got that popstar money yk yk - They attend all your dance's and Velvet pretends to hate going to watch your dances but she actually enjoys it so much and makes sure Veener is recording all of it - if someone makes fun of you doing folklofic dancing venner and velvet would go off on whoever talks shit - Velvet makes sure you pratice she dosen't want you to be a failure
- When people ask velvet and venner about what you do they flex about you doing folkloric dancing - Baile folklórico, "folkloric dance" in Spanish, also known as ballet folklórico, is a collective term for traditional cultural dances that emphasize local folk culture with ballet characteristics – pointed toes, exaggerated movements, highly choreographed. - She makes you practice a lot but Venner tries to convince her to give you breaks but he does also remind you its velvets way of trying to care for you. - You love showing your dances towards Veneer and Velvet sometimes if you feel proud about it - Velvet likes to do your hair and make sure the outfits look great on you if its a dress she makes sure its perfect if its a suit she makes sure to iron it properly - Venner hums to the music and enjoys how you move around as he is a very proud older brother and clapping to the beat and hyping you up. - Velvet and Venner may be troll kidnapping artists but you didn't know that at all - Though when you run into their makeup room while they were gone to fix your suit real quick you stubled upon Flyd in a perfume bottle making you worry about your older siblings and what they were doing - The worry in your eyes made you scared of what else your older siblings who you looked up to have done...

Los Bailadores Zapatistas and the Latino Native American Cultural Center
Last week, the Latino-Native American Alumni Alliance (LANA3) gathered on campus to celebrate more than 50 years of the Latino Native American Cultural Center (LNACC) at the University of Iowa.
In 1971, three students—Rusty Barceló, Ruth Pushetonequa, and Tony Zavala—founded the the Chicano Indian American Cultural Center, later renamed the Latino Native American Cultural Center (LNACC). In it’s five-decade history LNACC has hosted events like cookouts, powwows, and dances; published literary magazines and newsletters; held rallies, boycotts, and protests; and sponsored a variety of other educational and social programs.
The Libraries’ Special Collections and Archives recently acquired new materials from LNACC, including these beautiful dresses handmade by students in Los Bailadores Zapatistas, a baile folklórico troupe on campus. Baile folklórico encompasses many different types of traditional folk dance stemming from various regions of Mexico and cultural traditions, often with Indigenous and Spanish influences.
Los Bailadores Zapatista’s was formed at University of Iowa in the mid-1970s and aimed to “increase the education level and understanding of mestizo dancing and music, and to share our mestizo culture with the university and community population.” Los Bailadores performed on campus and throughout Iowa and the Midwest, often accompanied by the singing group El Conjunto Chicano. They visited other campuses and performed at community events and festivals. In 1978 they attended the National Ballet Folklórico festival in Kansas, and six students traveled to Mexico that summer to learn traditional dances.
Celina Espinoza, the groups instructor, taught the other members how to sew costumes, which are representative of traditional dance attire worn in different regions of Mexico. The group performed dances from the states of Jalisco and Veracruz, as well as from northern regions of Mexico and what is now the Southwestern United States.
Los Bailadores Zapatistas was just one of several student organizations affiliated with LNACC that brought Chicano art, music, and culture to audiences on the University of Iowa campus and beyond. To learn more about Los Bailadores and the Latino Native American Cultural Center, visit us in person or online at the Iowa Digital Library, check out our past blog posts on LNACC, and see the full finding aid to this collection here.

An Ask Game - I guess
Tagged by @l2bbocsstuff thank you so much very sweet of you to think of me.
QUESTIONS FOR PALS!
ARE YOU NAMED AFTER ANYONE?: No and I wish they would’ve gone the traditional route and named me after someone. I have the world’s whitest most basic name 😂 so I get to be _______ Last Initial in my classes because there’s always girl with the same name as me. It’s a very stereotypical name too.
WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU CRIED?: This morning, thanks mom. Also last Wednesday in front of a hundred people while on stage. I’m really fun like that. Imagine with my hair in a traditional Mexican style and wearing a huge yellow dress covered in ribbons and lace trim. ( I was wearing the regional dress of Jalisco ) . My face absolutely caked in makeup, wearing perfume. Equal parts Mexican doll and Easter egg. Sobbing. Full on. Makeup ruined. Tear streaks. In my defense my feet and my entire body were in pain, I was sleep deprived and I’d been running around dancing , doing costume and hair changes all night. So I think I earned a good cry.
DO YOU HAVE KIDS?: I’m eighteen, way too young for those.
WHAT SPORTS DO YOU PLAY/ HAVE YOU PLAYED?: I ran track, did socccer, gymanastics , and cheer. I’m a dancer ( yes dance is a sport) . It’s my third year as a Ballet Folklórico dancer.
DO YOU USE SARCASM?: No 🤍
WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU NOTICE ABOUT PEOPLE?: Hair
WHAT’S YOUR EYE COLOR?: brown
SCARY MOVIES OR HAPPY ENDINGS: Happy endings real life is scary enough.
ANY TALENTS?: Ummm… I’m good at cooking and baking. Like I mentioned earlier I dance.
WHERE WERE YOU BORN?: 🎶 I was born in the USA 🇺🇸 🎵
WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES?: Hard to keep up with any lately. I write. Dance. Read. Play video games. Swim. Again bake.
Am I wife material ? 👀
DO YOU HAVE ANY PETS?: A dog ? He’s actually my sister’s and he is a bad boy. He unzips bags unlocks baby gates eats anything and everything. This morning it was an entire bag of chocolate so 🪦 him I guess. Here lies asshole. He’s cute and snuggly though. I spoil him.
HOW TALL ARE YOU?: 5”4’ short 😔
FAVORITE SUBJECT IN SCHOOL?: Biology the dissections are fun.
DREAM JOB?: dermatologist because they make bank.

IkeVamp OC Profile: Carina
The Beloved Songbird “Wherever I may go, the melodies will always follow.”
Name: Carina Sakamoto Pronouns: She/Her Voice: Nana Mizuki Birthday: May 3 Race: human (becomes lesser vampire later on), half-Mexican/half-Japanese Hair: Long, wavy pink (light mauve) hair Eye: raspberry Skin tone: olive Extra Features: hourglass figure with large bust Orientation: pan
More info about her under the cut!
Notes: •Eldest daughter to a Mexican mother (Milagros Pilar) and Japanese father (Tadashi Sakamoto), both actors/theater performers. Also has a younger brother named Kou, both of them were born in Japan. •Her parents met in Paris for a theater production that they were taking part in and fell in love and eventually got married. It was a whirlwind romance, but it felt like fate to them and to this day they're still deeply in love. Even though it was a little unstable to raise children while traveling, they made it work. So Carina and her brother grew up surrounded by the performing arts while being homeschooled. •She traveled a lot growing up because of her parents' careers and started acting in various productions, movies, and TV shows since she was little. This is also where she developed her love of traveling and learning new languages because she wanted to be able to communicate with others wherever she went. •Classically trained in opera like her mother as well as piano like her father •Knows a little bit of most dances. Usually when a role calls for dance, she works hard to learn the type needed. And sometimes when her family have get-togethers, they all love to dance for fun. Some of her favorites are ballet, paso doble, flamenco, waltz, and ballet folklórico. •Since her brother, Kou, works as a music producer and composer, they tend to work together and collaborate on music •Instead of being a travel agent like the canon MC/Mitsuki, she is a theater performer/actress and singer who doubles as a travel vlogger. She travels a lot for her work, so she loves to save her memories via video recordings and an online blog, especially to share with her extended family back in their home countries. •Grew up in a healthy family, her parents being the best example of a healthy relationship. They always made sure to teach her and her brother how to be kind and respectful of others, to always communicate clearly, to never let anyone talk down to them, and stand your ground. •Her nicknames are "Cari" and "CariBear" because she loves bears (also a play on Care Bear). Some people also like to call her "Cupid" because of her hair and eye color reminding them of the colors of love and how much of a romantic she is. •Knows self-defense and is pretty strong despite her stature. Also has a black belt in taekwondo. •When she goes back in time to the 19th century and decides to stay there, she eventually adopts a Pomeranian and names her Oso ("bear" in Spanish) •Shipped with Isaac. The best way to describe their relationship dynamic would probably be like “golden retriever and black cat”, with Carina being the bubbly social butterfly who helps Isaac out of his shell (but never pushes, always gives him a choice and space when he needs it), while Isaac is the calmer, more introverted of the pair who helps Carina enjoy and appreciate the peaceful quiet moments together. •She does make a contract with Comte to become a vampire within a year of her and Isaac’s relationship. At first Isaac felt really conflicted with Carina's decision to become a vampire. On one hand they would have more time together, which he loves since he loves her so much. On the other hand, he's worried about the possibility of her becoming an aberrant like him. It causes him grief to be one and he doesn't want her to go through the same thing and regret her decision. Although he's unsure, he does realize that ultimately it's her decision. Carina hears Isaac's concerns and understands where he's coming from and offers to come up with a plan in case the "worst" case scenario happens. She reassures him that if she does become an aberrant, she'll find a way to work through it. Plus they have the support of Comte and the others, so they'll be okay. After talking it out some more with each other and then with Comte, Carina finally takes the plunge and becomes a vampire, and to Isaac's relief, is a normal lesser vampire just like the others. It's a bit of an adjustment period to get used to her new form, but he and the others are with her every step of the way.
Extra Note: Outfit is still pending. I may go with the one on the in-game avatar, just in warmer colors. I just wanted to add a picture in for reference.

"Love is beyond time, because it is the gift that is given without expecting anything in return."
— Laura Esquivel
Happy 2024! ♥️✨
Bienvenidas, bienvenidos y bienvenides, to this new artistic adventure that combines nature, culture, and love in its different forms! I am very happy that you are here ♥️✨
Love finds infinite ways and possibilities to express itself, and romantic love is one of them, where two hearts intertwine and, over time and depth, can merge into one. Those hearts can beat for each other, in different bodies or not.
And it is from that reality, from that promise, that I begin this journey with you: love is unique but manifests itself in diverse and rich paths, just as the marigold flower is finite in its unity, it is also infinite in its petals and in its possibilities to adorn us and bring us joy with its beauty.
The enamored girls you see were inspired by the rich cultural heritage of Mexico, particularly in an artistic form: ballet folklórico. ✨♥️
The folkloric ballet of Mexico is a form of dance that celebrates the cultural traditions, music, and typical costumes of the various regions of Mexico and combines elements of dance, music, costumes, and storytelling to represent the history and identity of Mexico.
It uses colorful and striking costumes that reflect the cultural richness and tradition of each region. The dances presented include the Jarabe Tapatío (also known as the "jarabe dance" or "Mexican jarabe"), the Dance of the Little Old Men, the Dance of the Flyers, the Dance of the Chinelos, among others.
Our girls wear typical dresses from the province of Jalisco, and in the background stands out what I consider the most emblematic flower of Mexico, the marigold, which, for me, represents the possibilities of love's manifestation. ✨🥰
They will probably appear here more often, do you have any names in mind for them? 🤔

its so sweet that jason would be nice to the elderly next door. 💕 could we get more on that please?
he's an equal opportunity provider for sarcasm, but will give respect where it's due, and that includes abuelita
stand and deliver [to abuela pérez] note: just headcanons, nothing serious, except ooey, gooey fluff. anything in spanish will have translations in parenthesis. I also apologize if some of the information isn't up to date - my mom was from Nuevo León, and I wrote Abuela to be from Jalisco, so there may be some differences.
Abuela Pérez used to be a dancer, even going so far as to being the headliner for the Liberación de México Festival (Liberation of Mexico, celebrated on El Día de la Independencia de México, or Mexican Independence Day) in their Baile Folklórico (Folkloric Ballet)
and she would demonstrate to Jason when he would stop by her apartment, even going as far as showing him some of the common moves and importance of the designs on the dresses
"mijito [my son], it's the badge of tu cultura (your culture), and where you came from. you represent it con amor propio (with proper love, or with pride)
jason would ask questions about her home state, Jalisco, and even did some reading about its history
but Abuela felt the closest to Jay when he surprised her with a torta ahogada (a popular dish in Jalisco's capital, Guadalajara)
"Ay, qué rico lo hiciste [how delicious/rich you made it]. La comida de los tapatíos fuertes. [The food of the resilient Tapatios, a nickname of people from Guadalajara]"
In no time, Jason saw his time with Abuela as part of a routine, looking forward to it (and being STRICT about making sure to make time each Tuesday for her)
she did try to set him up with a couple of her granddaughters
"Pero Jason, mi amor [but Jason, by love], ellas no tienen verguenza con sus relaciónes [they are shameless about their relationships]. Necesitan un varón como ti [they need a man like you]."
and Jay, being a total sweetheart, addressed Abuela in usted form
"Lo se, Señora. Es que no estoy buscando a nadie. Tengo demasiado trabajo a ser [I know, Misses. It's just that I'm not looking for anybody; I have too much work to do.]." - jason
helps make tamales, and dances with her sometimes (when she's active enough)
will absolutely protect her at all costs
she is his biggest secret (other than him wanting to be a dad)
