Lately I enjoy listening to audio books about zen buddhism while I cook. It was Jack Kornfield who talked about how his teacher made him sit with his anger for long enough to realize it was fear. That all anger stems from fear. This intrigued me because anger is an emotion that's a big hurdle for me in my everyday life - I get angry a lot and easily too. So I payed attention to myself. To when it arises when I go grocery shopping and someone gets too close, when I fear I might have done something wrong, when someone crosses a boundary.
There really is fear underneath all of it - the fear of being blamed, yelled at, ridiculed, treated unfairly, of getting myself into harmful situations by not saying "no" firmly enough. The most interesting part starts here though: as soon as I pin point the cause of my anger, it dissolves on its own - most of the time. I used to fight it. Be hard on myself, thought there was something wrong with me for getting angry so quickly. But there isn't anything wrong with me, I'm just scared. Some part of me is scared. And as soon as I recognize this fear, meet it with compassion and say "This fear is old. No one wants to hurt you right now" there is no need for the anger anymore. No need to fight.

Sending Metta:
“Metta” comes to us from an ancient Indian language called Pali, and it translates as lovingkindness, benevolence, active good will.
Metta is an active form of meditation where instead of focusing on the breath, we focus on sending benevolent thoughts and wishes out into the world, and we imagine that the people—or animals—in our minds are touched by our good will.
Metta meditation was taught by the Buddha 2600 years ago and is still practiced in many traditional Buddhist communities to this day, just as he taught it.
✸
When ready, imagine someone you care about, someone you’re grateful for, and simply wish them well with these words (you can adapt the phrases as you see fit), either spoken out loud or in your mind:
May you be safe
May you be happy
May you be healthy
May your mind be at ease.
Some teachers recommend that you begin with yourself:
May I be safe
May I be happy
May I be healthy
May my mind be at ease.
Take the time to visualize the object of your meditation and feel the outpouring of goodwill. Send Benevolence to folks who support you, who put a smile on your face, who you feel neutral about, who trouble or annoy you, who you do not know, and everyone else. Extend your well-wishes to the world.
✸
Science is confirming what meditators who fold metta into their practice have known for centuries: it increases well-being. From enhanced feelings of empathy to improved relationships to better resilience to helping with PTSD and other trauma-based conditions, regular lovingkindness meditation has been linked to a host of benefits, much like mindfulness and awareness practices. And hey, you may even develop compassion.

"Human nature has an inbuilt tendency toward addiction. For some people this tendency can lead to the destruction of their lives, through their addictive and obsessive–compulsive behaviors. However, we can all struggle with the nature of the mind that tends toward addiction. We could say that we are all in recovery. Thinking itself can have an addictive quality to it. Thinking that tells us stories, thinking that can make us angry, thinking that can literally intoxicate us and impair the mind. Accidents and even fatalities can be caused when we are under the influence of this type of thinking." - Eight Step Recovery by Valerie Mason-John and Dr. Paramabandhu Groves #RecoveryIsPossible #RecoveryDharma #TakeRefuge #Buddha #Dharma #Dhamma #Sangha #Recover #Recovery #Mindfulness #Satipațțhāna #Lovingkindness #Maitri #Metta #SympatheticJoy #Mudita #Equanimity #Upekkha #Impermanence #Anicca #Impersonal #Anatta (at New Haven Zen Center) https://www.instagram.com/p/ClqWGL8upnd/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

This natural problem and simply overcome feeling of dread- five simple step Connect with family and friends, Practice self-care, practice meditation, Challenge negative thoughts, Seek professional help. And believe you self that recovery is a process and it takes time. Be kind to yourself and don’t give up hope.

Spend time together: Make plans to spend time with friends and family, whether it's going for a walk, having a meal, or simply chatting. Open up: Sharing your feelings and thoughts with others can help you feel heard and understood. Seek support: Ask friends and family for help with tasks or to be there for you when you need them to recover. Try new things: Doing new activities or trying new experiences with loved ones can help you build positive memories and form stronger connections.
Practice self-care :
Get regular Exercise : just 30 min. Physical activity can help boost mood and reduce stress.
Eat well: A healthy diet can help improve overall physical and mental well-being.
Make sleep a priority : Aim to get 7-10 hours of sleep each night.

Mindfulness meditation : Mindfulness meditation is the practice of actually being present in the moment, which in turn trains us to become more mindful throughout the day, particularly during difficult situations. As Ms. Brach puts it: “Mindfulness is your awareness of what's going on in the present moment without any judgment.
Body scan meditation : The body scan is a mindfulness meditation practice involving scanning your body for pain, tension, or anything out of the ordinary. It can help you feel more joined to your emotional and physical self. At this point, you've probably heard all about the benefits of meditation and mindfulness
Walking meditation : Walking meditation, also called kinhin or mindful walking, is a moving meditation from the Buddhist tradition. You keep your eyes open and use the experience of walking as the focal point
Loving kindness meditation : Loving-kindness meditation (sometimes called “metta” meditation) is a great way to cultivate our propensity for kindness. It involves mentally sending goodwill, kindness, and warmth towards others by silently repeating a series of mantras.
Transcendental meditation : The Transcendental Meditation technique is simple and effortless. You sit comfortably with your eyes closed and practice twice a day for 20 minutes. With the Transcendental Meditation technique, you don't need an app to guide your meditation. Instead, you silently repeat a mantra in your head.
Challenge negative thoughts:
Challenging negative thoughts is a practice of reframing your negative self-talk to create a positive shift in your mindset. But challenging thoughts takes a little more effort than just trying to think positively. For starters, it's helpful to consider your effort versus the outcome.

Abandon Jealousy, Cultivate Joy I suggest that the transformation of jealousy through the cultivation of sympathetic joy bolsters the awakening of the enlightened heart. As jealousy dissolves, universal compassion and unconditional love become more easily available to the individual. — Jorge N. I feel like I’ve lost control a little bit, like life is just running by without me. I blew up the boy’s phone two days in a row because he pulled back. I tried not to but it happened...
I did so much Metta this morning trying to calm myself. I’m trying to reduce this constant anger and resentment I’ve been carrying this last week or two. I don’t know that it’s working yet but I’m going to keep trying. I have to try, right.
I am making mistakes and I need to fix them. I need to not make them worse. If he’s leaving I need to just let him go.
Loving kindness on repeat.

DCA, dismorfofobia e commenti
