X
That front looks absurd.
I know they were desperate to get the Amtrak logo on there somewhere, but this is NOT the way.
Anyway, I love it.

All of these (Except the K4) are Electric (although the K4 is running underwire) these all use either AC overhead power or DC third rail (and in the Case of several are Capable of switching between the Two)
Actually no wait the Illinois Central multiple units use 1500V DC overhead power not 12kV 25Hz AC like Pennsy and New Haven did

Ex-Metroliner Pearl has increasingly grown into a goldmine for terrible jokes and character development. Wasn’t “born yesterday”, she just had her memory wiped due to a computer error at some point in the Penn Central fiasco and doesn’t remember what a shitshow 60s-70s era US passenger rail actually is. Totally lost with engines because she used to be a dysfunctional EMU and wasn’t involved with them much before. May have “sucked the windows out of a passing train at speed”. The idea of her having “Disney Princess dropped in the gritty real world” energy cracks me up and explains so much.
Also means she’d need a fun bolder makeup design to reflect how the ex-Metroliner cab cars had hazard stripes put on their ends (but I’d do something prettier than yellow and black). Being a cab car also means she’s a literal backseat driver (we’ll do this over mind control but mark my words- I WILL do an all-out train psychic battle based on remote control stuff eventually because basically all the electric/diesel engines+ some others would be capable of it)

including: rin, shidou, nagi, bachira, sae, otoya, karasu
Rin is the kind of guy who' favourite pocky is still the strawberry one, but would never admit it. If he can choose, he always goes for the dark chocolate ones because he simply would cringe from the strawberry. And it also reminds him of Sae, for they always shared one pack of strawberry pockys after winter trainings (when there was no icecream).
Shidou is the kind of guy who randomly chooses a metroline in Tokyo (there are pretty much of them) and travels across the city in the middle of the night. Sometimes he listens to music with earphones, and sometimes he just stares out of his head, thinking.
Nagi is the kind of guy who would be admired by all the cats he ever meets. Nobody knows why, he just drawns them like a magnet. He's actually pretty good with animals, although looking after one would still be mendokusai to him.
Bachira is the kind of guy who loves to sing and actually has a good singing voice. Lullaby, anime opening, old rock what his mother listens to sometimes - it doesn't matter for him until it has a tune. He loves to sing under the shower too, which is strange to the others at first, but as time passes they get used to it, even grow to like it and sing along.
Sae is the kind of guy who chose the upper bunk bed in the dorm, cause it was the closest to the window. Tokyo is 7 hours later than Spain, so every time Sae goes to sleep, he watches the same moon that Rin saw already. He hasn't once forgot to think about this.
Otoya is the kind of guy who openly enjoys historical movies with ninjas in it. When he was a child, he even tried to copy those acrobatical movements, which helped a lot in improving his random ball touches.
Karasu is the kind of guy who actually enjoys chemistry. He loves that he is able to understand that witchcraft and that people usually don't see him as someone who's more than just a "dumb soccer player". He enjoys to surprise them with some chemical formulas of food ingredients and stuff like that.

I somehow overlooked that Metroliner units were operating as recently as 2006.
I always just sort of thought of them in the past tense.
I like them, it's odd to me seeing what look like Amfleets with pantographs and no locomotive, but I dig it! :D

Colin with his Sadowsky NYC Precision-style Bass
Tumblr media
On September 16, Sadowsky Guitars shared this new photo of Colin with his custom bass guitar on the company's instagram page. Although the post's description didn't contain much info, they have shared quite a bit in the past.
Back in July 2018, Colin stopped by Sadowsky's shop in New York City in between Radiohead shows at Madison Square Garden (the band played the venue four times that week). His visit was to discuss a custom build with shop manager Lisa Ellis Mitra-Hahn. Roger Sadowsky has made custom guitars in NYC under the Sadowsky name since the late-1970s, but in the intervening decades the company has expanded to a team of custom builders, plus relatively-lower-priced models produced in Germany under the MetroLine moniker.
Colin stopped by again to pick up that custom build nearly a year later, on the morning of June 10, 2019. This time, Sadowsky provided a lot more info on the build, including a bunch of close-up photos of the instrument. Visually, the bass instantly draws a resemblance to the worn 1963 sunburst Fender Precision that Colin used heavily during the A Moon Shaped Pool era (not to be confused with the 70s sunburst P-bass that he mainly played during the OK Computer era). According to Sadowsky, the custom bass was meant as a stand-in for that vintage instrument, and Colin said much the same:
"This bass was inspired by the P Bass that Donald Duck Dunn used that had a jazz-sized neck. I wanted a comfortable, lightweight, touring instrument with the soul of a P Bass but the comfort and feel of a Sadowsky instrument." — Colin Greenwood
Perhaps the most surprising aspect of the bass was Colin's special request, mentioned at the end of the Facebook post: "he is colorblind and has trouble seeing white side dots under blue stage lights." Lisa Ellis Mitra-Hahn's solution was to install orange side dot markers, rather than the traditional white dots.
Much is made of Jonny's red-green colorblindness, and the ways Colin would tease him. One incident stands out in particular: “Jonny is colorblind, and when we were young, I gave him a red crayon to use for the grass he was coloring. It was a blood bath” (RollingStone). However, Colin hasn't mentioned his own colorblindness before. Perhaps Colin's is milder, or the rarer blue-yellow colorblindness.

A photo of Colin discussing his newly acquired Sadowsky with Lisa Ellis Mitra-Hahn, who built it, at the Sadowsky showroom in Long Island City, Queens in June, 2019.
In a comment on Facebook, the company further explained that the bass is "active but has an active/passive push pull switch in the tone knob." The controls for the active pickups are presumably the stacked knobs near the end of the pickguard (in the spot where you'd find the output jack on a traditional 50s/60s P-bass). As a result the Sadowsky bass has its output jack on the side, like an early-50s Tele-style P-bass. The Sadowsky active preamp offers a +18 dB boost at 40 Hz on the bass control (bottom half) and a +18dB boost at 4 kHz on the treble control (top half).

airsLLide No. 5060: N630PA, Swearingen Metroliner III, Peninsula Airways, Anchorage, July 15, 1990.
Better known under its shortened name PenAir Alaska, Peninsula Airways was formed in 1955 in King Salmon, AK. Initially serving local destinations in a feeder arrangement with Reeve Aleutian Airways, it moved its operations and headquarters to Anchorage in 1988 and began also connecting it with smaller towns and settlements on the Alaskan Peninsula and the Aleutians, using a newly acquired fleet of Metroliners carrying passengers and freight.
As its hangar and offices were located along the access road around Lake Hood Seaplane Base, it could happen to meet a PenAir aircraft moving on said road when driving around for photo opportunities. N630PA here has just taxied from Anchorage Ted Stephen's commuter tarmac to the base on Lake Hood for the night-stop and now seems to enjoy the late evening Northern summer sun - it is well past 10pm at the time of this picture - parked in front of the head-office.
