Rarepairs hold a special place in my heart and I get not having art for the ship you love so much hehe. I gotta say though, this ship is uh doing something to my brain. The possibilities of them meeting up in the future... hrmmmm Silver rarepairs my beloved!

Yo, so I honestly don't know which would be funnier for one of my favourite rarepairs, so I'll let you decide~

Metilver + Ask Game 37 (without motive) or 47 (out of spite)

I need you to know that this is such a rarepair I spent multiple seconds thinking you'd misspelled Mephilver XD This one was a bit tough to write since I've never considered Metilver before and I wasn't sure what angle to take (since I'm not sure if they'd be very romantic with each other and how that would work in the first place), but I hope you like it!🍀

With a face set in stone Silver glares Metal Sonic down.

What’s left of Metal Sonic, that is. ‘Hectic’ doesn’t do justice to their race through Death Yard Zone: the terrain had been fraught with danger, and Metal Sonic’s relentless attempts at slowing Silver down and killing him had been the frantic cherry on top. At least Nega hadn’t been lying about how Metal could put up a better fight this time; nary a smidge but at least an improvement, Silver panting and rubbing his side where an attack from the robot had struck. He’d retaliated in kind, and a buzzing, sparking heap of scrap metal on the ground in front of him proves his victory.

Metal Sonic groans, his fingers twitching into a claw as if he wants to strike Silver still. His other hand digs into the ground to pull him closer to the hedgehog, though he merely scrapes over the ground helplessly. “If you knew what’s best for you, you’d just give up,” Silver notes, a smirk of victory forming on his face. He’d won, and he’s got to keep going: every second longer that Nega spends here is one that leaves the past and future alike in unfathomable danger.

…But a part of Silver pities Metal Sonic too. Despite his dented, torn body and the sparks of electricity raining down around him, he’s still flailing and clawing; his voice creaks and heaves as if he’s spitting a thousand curses at Silver and his victory. It hurts to feel this helpless, the hedgehog knows. And Eggman Nega will be irate with his stolen creation’s defeat.. What Eggman will do or say, Silver can’t predict.

Still, he can appreciate such relentless determination, such an inability to give up.

Gently the hedgehog presses a kiss against his fingers, before leaning down to stroke them over a metal cheek. “It’s a shame. Maybe if we’d been on the same side, we could have fought for a cause in the same way. I’d like an ally like you,” he muses absent-mindedly. “But we’re not… so this is goodbye. I hope Eggman comes and finds you here.”

Metal Sonic’s damage is truly beginning to take its toll: under Silver’s eyes the noises and movements he makes become less and less. It can’t be long before he goes offline completely, but Silver doesn’t have time to stick around for that; he needs to go capture Eggman Nega, the sooner the better. “Maybe we’ll meet again. I’d love a rematch,” he nods curtly; and then he blasts off, jumping over the robot to go face his adversary.

But if he comes across Eggman somehow during this adventure, he’ll tell him to go find his robot and repair him, Silver promises to himself.

He likes a determined opponent.

Sonic Rarepair Requests!

So for pride month I thought it would be fun to take some art requests specifically for rarepairs in the fandom to show them some love!! Shadow, Omega and Metal Sonic are all characters who could live long enough to be in Silver's time line.

I'm just imagining some kinda forbidden love scenario where Metal Sonic has changed due to not having Eggman around, Silver seeing that Metal has changed and wants to take a chance with them, Shadow not wanting Silver around because he doesn't want Silver anywhere near the 'cold hearted Eggman murder machine', and Omega just wanting Metal dead because this apocalypse isn't big enough for two cold hearted Eggman murder machines.

I quite wonder if Metal can change, to be quite honest. After Heroes, Eggman seems to have programmed him into total obedience. But that being said, I think in such a situation, Silver would feel bad for Metal in a way: Metal is unwaveringly loyal to Eggman, but Eggman is presumably gone. Eggman Nega is Eggman's descendant, so we know that he somehow does have children and his bloodline continues for 200 years more. So does Metal become loyal to those descendants for being related to his creator? Or will he only ever try to somehow remain loyal to Eggman, in whatever way possible and without ever being able to break free from it, because Eggman is no longer around to do it and wouldn't have done it even when alive because he's a jerk like that? It's a saddening situation, I think, and I figure Silver would feel sorry for Metal once he realises that.

In that situation, I think Shadow would take a much more pragmatic "You cannot change him anyway so it's better to destroy him before he causes too much trouble" stance. Silver probably will agree that is best; I cannot imagine Silver would e.g. try to capture Metal just to explore the possibility he can break free from his programming, considering the dangers he brings to the world at large. And besides, Omega might just go full dakka on him whenever Metal's in range XD (Speaking of, there's also interesting parallels there with Omega vowing revenge on Eggman and his creations, where the former part cannot be fulfilled anymore once Eggman is gone. How would he take that?) But I do think Silver'd be saddened by the concept Metal will never truly be free and able to decide what he wants out of his life, when taking into the consideration that the person he is bound to is no longer there. It's an intriguing scenario to think about them all in the future!

You mentioned mephilver in the metilver ask, what's your opinion on it?

I can't say I have any, really. I don't think about Mephiles basically ever, and thus also not in relation to shipping Silver. But I've seen it in fanfics and fanfic tags before, so that's how I know it exists!

How do you think Neo Metilver would work in the IDW universe?

Oof... This is honestly a tough one! We know Metal is 100% loyal to Eggman, considering he goes back to his master immediately after Sonic and Tails restore him, and in issue 7 he says he wants to regain control of the Eggman Empire to hand it over to Eggman once the then-missing Doctor has been found... So I doubt Silver could convince him to defect (or even develop feelings) in that state!

The only way I can see this work out is after Neo is defeated and Sonic and Tails take him to the latter’s workshop, but they refuse to restore him or at the very least cripple him enough so he can’t do anything while they try to figure out what to do with him. Metal needs to stay under constant guard, and considering Silver is quite a bit more naive and younger-acting in IDW compared to Forces (not TSR lol) he might feel bad for the robot... They might hang out a bit more and Silver tries to convince Metal of the beauty of the world and how he shouldn’t wish to destroy it, but I’m not wholly convinced it might work out! 

OH WAIT what if Tails somehow manages to remove the mechanisms/coding that makes Metal so loyal to Eggman?? Sonic wanted him to live his own life and be his own person, but Metal went back to Eggman immediately because of his loyalty to the other. If that part of him got removed, what would he do? Part of me thinks he’d go back to Eggman anyway since that’s all he’s ever known, but that one time he developed free will it got nipped in the bud after his defeat immediately (although his way of expressing it was Kinda Dumb lol), and as such he might be more apprehensive. Enter our intrepid time traveller... and things might just roll from there :3

I like platonic Metilver, but what about romantic Metilver?

Ooohhh👀👀 I have to say that ships with Metal involved don't really cross my mind, but I can imagine it would certainly be very cute! Silver is giving this robot boi ~emotions~ Though it'd also make sense to me if Silver has little understanding of romance, due to growing up with so few other people and having no-one to teach him about feelings and stuff. So it'll be a rollercoaster for both of them!

... I my defense I came to this out of genuinely giving consideration to character interaction and not “lol these are my two favorite characters let’s make them kiss”?

(Not for the Silver Diamonds AU) I'm imagining how complicated romantic Metilver would be. But it's fun to think about. Whenever I think of Metilver its just Neo Metal Sonic and Silver.

It would be very complicated, indeed! Though with the power of fanfic and some imagination on our side a whole lot is possible :3 What I think makes it very interesting is the fact that Silver hails from a destroyed future, one wherein Sonic has failed. How would Metal feel about that? I can imagine that he'd be delighted, to know Sonic is defeated somehow which thus proves *he* is the superior one, except... he feels bad for Silver, and he simply doesn't understand why. As for how things would work out between them I'm not wholly sure, but it's fun to think about!
