This is the fifth of six posts to help expand on the prompts for anyone who needs a little more to go on than just one word. We hope these ideas help inspire people, but they are only a jumping-off point and there will of course be plenty more interpretations we didn’t think of!

March 21st - Treasure - This could be sappy with them treasuring their partners or having treasured memories of each other. Giving gifts that could be considered treasures; gemstones, precious metals, money or other valuable objects. Or they could plan a treasure hunt. They could also be pirates or adventurers searching for treasure, or archaeologists who happen to find treasures. They could be on a quest, finding treasures as loot and perhaps coming across a dragon's hoard. If they already possess treasures, this could be about their collection.

March 22nd - Bonding - Bonding could be via spending time together. Or finding an interest/belief in common. This might be your ship bonding, or metamors, or they could also be bonding with their kids, pets, or friends and family of their partners. For something different, it could be a magical/supernatural bond, like an empathic bond or a soulbond - maybe they're bonded to someone other than their partners. More literally it could be chemical, mechanical or physical bonding. Maybe they have a close bond working together or they're made to do team bonding exercises.

March 23rd - Forest - An atmospheric location perfect for fairytale or fantasy but also good for horror, or scifi if you want an alien forest. They could live there, as survivalists or witches or dryads or outlaws (Robin Hood AU anyone?). Do they go into the forest looking for someone or something? Or is there something creepy or mysterious lurking in the forest they're afraid of? Maybe they're a shapeshifter running wild there. They could work in a forest or go there for hiking, climbing, caving etc. Or perhaps your character 'can't see the forest for the trees'.

March 24th - Apart - Something could be keeping your ship apart physically, across distance (or time!), such as a long distance relationship or temporary travel. Maybe they're imprisoned or kidnapped. Or cursed, not able to touch or be in the same place. They could be kept apart by other people, rules, life circumstances, or conflict, whether literal or emotional. Has something driven them apart - a disagreement or a betrayal? Is a character apart from the rest of the ship who are already together, longing to have a place with them. Are they apart as in an exception, do they stand out above the rest or are they excluded from consideration? For whump, it could also relate to being in pieces or something blown apart.

March 25th - Unlikely - This could be unlikely friends/lovers where people (maybe even themselves) never expected they'd work well or have anything in common. Unlikely allies that could shift from enemies-to-lovers. Or unlikely events, things that probably won't happen or improbable events that did happen. Ideas or dreams or plans that are unlikely to work out, characters as the underdog going against the odds. It could also be unlikely-looking, not being what is expected based on appearances. Asking someone out, figuring they're unlikely to get a yes and being surprised when they do. Or does someone find something unlikely and suspect it's a lie.

I took the ribbons to be mirroring the fit of corset or bodice. A good metamor for being bound. We often see Dream's robes hanging loosely but in this pic the ribbons force the material to encase his body. They could stand a reflection to Destiny's chain which is made very prominent, and being bound to fate and/or duty... But it's so interesting that while Destiny's restraints are metal, Dream's are such a flimsy, easily breakable material. He could snap them if he wished, but he doesn't. Instead like a bodice they continue to squeeze and restrict him.

And yeah, the posture... The same really. How the weight of reality can often crush dreams, yet fantasy is essential to the stability of reality. But on a more personal level, Dream fulfilling his purpose, upholding his destiny, while buckling from the pressure of it.

But then you notice Destiny isn't actually holding his book in this picture, Dream is taking the weight of it completely. And that's a whole other discussion... It's... You could write and essay on this art. 😅

I can have a little selfship ramble?

Just thought I might explain because some things might end up on my blog that would seem strange - Iunno if my selfshipper pals are all going to see this, but

The other day, I realized that currently, Giovanni is my favorite of the three f/o’s, even though I still don’t want to actually...break up with XR or Tony because of what they mean to me. I thought about dumping them, but I can’t do it (I ended up hearing an In This Moment song and being overcome with Tony feels because I have associated that band with him).

So I kinda freaked out, and then started looking up if it’s okay to be in a polyam relationship but have favorites (even though this is COMPLETELY fictional and I’m pretty sure I’m not polyam in real life so why am I freaking out?). Anyway, as it turns out, primaries and secondaries are a thing. Then this got me thinking - if XR and Tony are my secondaries, would I be okay being their secondaries?

I went and rewatched “42″ and discovered I actually had fun watching XR and 42 banter. It’s a little tough because I don’t think 42 would like me in general at first, being that I’m a fleshbag organic creature, and by the time she gets over that, their relationship is caput, but I think I’d be fine with XR getting another partner.

Tony? The only ship I’ve really seen done seriously for him is TonElisa, which I hate because it’s unhealthy for both of them (but if it’s your poison, feel free to carry on shipping it; that’s just my preference). But it occurred to me that all my fantasies about Tony take place at night for us to do crime things. I never hang out with him by daytime to do ordinary domestic things. So I figure...he can have somebody else for that, and I get him for crime stuff by night. And that sounds like it’ll work!

But then I got to thinking about Giovanni, even though he’s my primary.

And I realized...I’ve been okay with sharing him all along, from the very start, even wanted to share him.

When I see other selfshippers mention him, I just wanna high-five them for having good taste and joining me in the Giovanni Love Club. I had always felt kinda bad about stealing Gio away from Crusher, who had been chasing him for so long. I have actually READ Gio/Car Crash and Gio/Crusher fics and ENJOYED them because I want him to get cuddled by SOMEONE. I realized I had been finding GioCrash and GioCrush art really cute this whole dang time, just never reblogging it because I’m usually not a multishipper and I was like “They’re not me sooooooo.” And when writing Assist Counter: 5, I was struck by how sentimental all the broTP moments I made between him and the individual Blasters were and I was just “I could see this being a ship.”

So now, I realize, I don’t HAVE to take Crusher’s man. I might reblog ship art of Gio with the other Blasters, but that doesn’t mean I’ve abandoned him. I feel like he has enough love in his heart for all of us. I see our relationship now as him having me, and Crusher, and Spike since she loves him so much, and Car Crash since I love the art, and there’s room for him to invite Flamethrower, Darkstar, and even Ben. (Maybe even a crossover character...more on that later. Maybe.) We all love him and he loves all of us. And besides, sleeping in the Blaster blanket nest is just one of the most comfy fantasies I have now. We throw rock-paper-scissors for who gets to sleep on either side of Giovanni and then the rest of us scatter around for platonic metamore cuddles and late-night sleepover talk.

So, uh, yeah, now this turned into me having three partners but they have an indefinite amount of partners and this is a rather large web of shipping

Can you tell us (your adoring fans) about your polycule?

Wasn’t expecting this ask but you know what, I’m game. Many moons ago I was invited by a friend to play a starfinder game he was running. I made my character with the help of someone we will refer to as Big Bro Starfinder, and the android operative known as wolf was born. And he was the most boring fucking character in the world. Holy shit starfinder was a shitshow of a campaign, but this isn’t about that, this is about the man I met there. We’ll refer to him as Blondie(his hair isn’t actually blonde it just seemed like a convenient name). Now, Blondie was walking in the fucking snow because he’s a small thermonuclear generator who can melt steel beams, but I offered to give him a ride and he gratefully accepted. I took him home and next week he texted me and asked me for a ride TO the game, which I was fine with and accepted. So, he and I drove to the game, made small talk again, arrived and realized that there was nobody there. Sat in a side room and talked. For about eight hours. That should have been my first hint that Blondie was into me. It went over my head. Him straight up saying, and I quote, “Dude, I’m crushing on you so hard right now.” Should have been hint number two. I’m afraid it also went over my head. A few weeks pass of us laughing and having fun every car ride and he asks me, “Wilson, would you like to play a game I’m DMing set in the world of final fantasy tactics, a game series you’ve never touched?” to which I replied, “If you’re DMing then of fucking course!” And so the fft campaign began and was much more fun than starfinder. And so on the first session I met, Greg, who is not getting a fake name because that is the single most common name fucking ever, Aiko(yeah that’s a huniepop reference it’s a joke the polycule would get), and Burlesque Goddess. And I sat down at a table full of tens thinking that I was a three and thought to myself, “Why am I the only ugly person here?” More weeks passed, during which it was discovered I had not seen firefly, and was requester(by force), that I watch firefly. Many firefly episode were watched. Much flirting went over my head. I do believe I suggested that Blondie and my sister would make a great match. Anyways, during another episode of firefly a character died, I screamed “NOOO,” and a kiss was delivered unto the top of my head as a reassuring rub was given to my arm. We were cuddling, of course, during this and after five minutes passed blondie said, “Wait, I kissed you.” To which I replied, “oh, you kissed me,” and proceeded to give him a kiss on the lips, now that my dumb ass had finally figured it out. Other than a talk in a car where he said, “part of polyamory is knowing that you don’t own the other person at all,” and I replied, “people aren’t things, of course I don’t own the other person, that’s most of how I met my first partner. I will follow with updates tagged [#my polycule] about my other two partners and the Burlesque goddess, who is my metamor.

So, as I said, my NaNo novel is based on the tabletop game I’ve been playing. Lots of unexpected things happened, including my character having several romantic partners. 

I’m really excited to write this one V, because the two metamors end up becoming best friends. I’m so sick of seeing stories where there’s a love triangle and there’s some sort of beef between the two love interests. No, in this one, they actually first meet each other because of their shared love interest. All of them are poly, but the two metamors aren’t interested in a romantic relationship with each other.

But they become super invested in each other because they become best friends, and not because they’re both dating the same woman. They have a friendship that is their own, they hang out with each other because they want to, and plenty of times without her.

It’s just strange for me because I don’t really ever see that. In media it’s always a love triangle where eventually the main character has to Pick One. So much fanfic I’ve read is like this too.

And I think it’s really telling that, part of the fantasy for me of this story is being able to see poly relationships outside of fanfic and throwing love triangles out the door. Also, with a heaping helping of healthy and loving male friendships.

So, no, in this story she doesn’t Pick One. She Picks Both and they’re all aware and cool with it and both of her partners never expected that they’d meet their best friend in the process.
