[ Image: A drawing of a cartoony Revolver Ocelot from Metal Gear, wearing a simplified version of his Metal Gear Solid 2 outfit. He's standing with his hand on his hip and a toy revolver held up in one hand, saying 'Ha ha!' with an intense look. The background is light grey-green with a texture of repeated squares, with darker squares in triangle patterns framing the corners. He has a subtle vertical line texture over him, and is casting a shadow behind him, onto the background. ]

Runaways Chapter One
AKA the first written draft of my canon divergent fanfic where Bertholdt and Feli commit treason together.
I will probably post this on AO3 eventually, once I've made more progress and gotten some feedback. No promises on when the next chapter will be for now.
Chapter under the cut. Content warning for canon-typical violence. Word Count: 4137
The ground shuddered, the rumbling shakes spreading into the foundation of the house in waves. This must be what an earthquake feels like, Feli thought as she tried to remain steady- a near impossible task with her injured leg. She had never experienced an earthquake before, but her uncle Walt had told her a story from his childhood, about how a bad tremor had once devastated the paper mill his father worked at. The family had to go hungry for months while he secured employment elsewhere.
The shaking had become a quieter, steady wave, but it was still enough to knock Feli off balance, and her foot slipped from the shingles on the roof. Before she could go tumbling to her death, a hand gripped her shoulder, securing her by the green cloak. Jean, teeth gritted in exertion, pulled her back from the edge of the roof with his uninjured hand. A piece of shrapnel wood from the Armored’s attack jutted from his left shoulder, matching the injury on Feli’s right leg. Feli’s head swiveled and sharp pains flared across her temple from the sudden motion. Still, the movement allowed her to catch a glimpse of the earthquake’s epicenter.
The Colossal Titan sinking to its knees.
A thousand emotions swam through her body, but before she could formulate any concrete thoughts, Jean was saying something. It was hard to make out over the noise, but Feli was sure she heard “Section Commander- Reiner- solid ground- can you jump?”
That was all she needed to hear. Feli slid from the roof with as much grace as her injury permitted, using her ODM gear to secure a hold on the wall opposite them. It allowed her to direct her landing onto her left side, where she tumbled and curled her head towards her body. A noise at her side told her that Jean had followed. With the sounds of the Colossal ceased, a new series of sounds directed their attention elsewhere.
Reiner, both of his legs cut above the knee, reaching towards one of his shirt pockets with his remaining hand. He screamed as Hange cut that arm, too.
“Mikasa, blindfold him,” they ordered. Mikasa did as she was told, tying a stretch of cloth over Reiner’s eyes and shoving him unceremoniously against the nearest wall.
Feli felt the slightest bit sick, watching it all unfold. She was sure the queasiness registered on her face, because Jean said, “the bastard deserves this.”
He sounded more like he was trying to convince himself than her.
Hange bent forward and reached into the pocket Reiner had been so desperate to reach, plucking a small shiny container from within. They gave it a few experimental taps, and it rattled like metal.
“We’ll deal with him later,” they told their juniors. “For now, all of us have injuries that need attending. Help each other.”
No one protested that order. Mikasa turned her back on Reiner, joining her fellow 104th. From the corner of her eye, Feli spotted Connie descending from the roof, his movements sluggish and cautious. A knocked out Sasha rested on his back.
“Connie, pass her here,” Mikasa called to him. Connie gingerly shifted Sasha from his back and into Mikasa’s arms. With his body free, Connie finished his descent swiftly.
None of them spoke for a few minutes. Hange wrapped fresh bandages over the wound where their eye once was on their own. Connie fussed over Sasha, wrapping layer after layer of bandages over her shoulder. Mikasa directed Jean and Feli to sit against the wall, and she pulled the largest pieces of wood from their bodies. She gave a silent look of apology for the flaring pain, but neither of them held it against her. What else could be done? They settled into an odd triangle formation. Mikasa bandaged Jean’s shoulder, Jean bandaged Feli’s thigh, and Feli bandaged Mikasa’s arms.
“Nothing we can do about the burns for now,” Jean said, quiet enough for only Feli and Mikasa to hear.
“We have the ointments for that in the satchels with the horses,” Mikasa responded. “Once we get past the wall, we’ll-”
She didn’t finish. None of them wanted to talk about what they might find beyond the wall.
“Are you okay?” Jean’s question was directed right at Feli, his gaze resting on the steam near the far side of the wall. Underneath which, barely peeking over the roofs of the houses, was the Colossal’s decomposing head.
“I’ll be fine,” she said listlessly.
She tried to come to terms with reality. Bertholdt was dead. Whatever plan Armin came up with had worked, and he and Eren killed him. There was nothing left to do.
It was for the best, she tried to tell herself. Bertholdt made his choice. He was the one who left them with no other options. She had extended out her hand to him, and he had rejected it. And now, neither of them would be able to hurt each other again.
With their immediate injuries handled and with no one at risk of bleeding to death, Hange turned their attention back to Reiner, who had remained stoically silent through the whole ordeal. Feli wondered what was going through his head. His best friend was dead and he would join him soon. Was it all worth it?
“Reiner,” Hange spoke, “before we cut off your limbs, you desperately tried to reach this container.” They tapped the canister to indicate to the blinded Reiner what they meant. “Can you tell us what’s in it? Suicide pills? Or perhaps a bomb?”
It took Reiner a second to speak, and his voice came out hoarse, barely audible. “A letter.”
“A letter? What kind of letter?”
“A letter… from Ymir. You have to give it to Krista… no matter what…”
Feli felt a pang of sorrow, and she saw from her peripheries that Jean and Mikasa reacted similarly. She hadn’t given much thought to Ymir since her departure, and guilt ebbed at her for that. What kind of words would she have for Historia?
“We will once we’ve had a chance to inspect it,” Hange said without a drop of emotion, slipping the container into their pocket. “Now then,” they drew their sword, “I have so many questions for you, but am I right in assuming you won’t cooperate with us?”
Feli saw it, the briefest glimmer of a smirk stretching across Reiner’s twisted face.
“No.”
Perhaps this was his one solace in death, the one way he could maintain an illusion of control.
Hange sighed, then smiled. “Alright then. Thanks for making this easy for me.”
With that, they pressed their blade against Reiner’s throat.
“Wait!” Jean lurched forward despite his injuries, reaching out before Feli could even utter a word. Hange froze, blade still cutting into skin. Feli could hear Reiner sputtering and choking on his own blood.
“Shouldn’t we keep him alive for now? We could steal his power?”
This returned Commander Erwin’s instructions to the forefront of Feli’s mind. What to do in the event they captured a Titan Shifter. Render them unable to move, summon Captain Levi, and use their new Titan serum to revive a comrade close to death. They kill a powerful enemy, save one of their own, and obtain the power of a Titan, all in one swoop.
“I don’t think we’ve met all the conditions for that yet,” Hange said. They pressed the blade deeper. There was an unfamiliar expression on their face, one Feli would be far more accustomed to seeing on Eren than their curious, energetic Section Commander. There was no curiosity here, no inquisitive thought. It was just rage. “There are too many uncertainties. Even if we cut his head off, he might not die! We can’t afford to take any chances!”
“This isn’t like you, Section Commander,” Jean said, looking down. “There is never a situation in which we can have all the answers.”
This seemed to give Hange pause, resonating somewhere deep within their core. “Mikasa, Feli, how much gas do you have left?”
“Not enough to get past the wall,” Mikasa said. “It should be enough to get to where Eren and Armin are, at least.”
“I should have a bit more than that,” Feli said after running some mental calculation. “I could probably get past the wall once but not get back.”
Hange gave it some more thought, then drew their sword back. Reiner gasped as more blood oozed from the wound. “Both of you, go,” Hange said. “We don’t know if there are any more enemies hiding here, so watch each other’s backs. Check on the situation, and get Levi. If, for any reason, you are unable to do that, fire a smoke flare. That will be my signal to kill Reiner.”
“Understood,” they said in near perfect unison. Mikasa was off the ground in seconds, taking to the air with her ODM gear. Feli spared a glance back, at the defeated Reiner, the unmoving Hange, the unsure Jean, before joining Mikasa.
They didn’t speak during their flight. Mikasa watched their left side, Feli watched their right.
“There! What’s that?” Feli shouted as something moved through her vision. It was the strangest Titan she had ever seen, trying to sneak between the alleyways of half destroyed houses. Cases of crates and barrels were tied to its back like some sort of cargo.
Mikasa checked, and narrowed her eyes. “There’s no time,” she decided. “We have to trust that the others will take care of it.”
She wanted to see how Eren and Armin were doing, that much was clear.
The Colossal’s corpse, now nothing but steam and bones, came into full view, and with it, so did a scatter of figures on the roof closest to it. Feli heard Mikasa shudder and gasp, and she vanished from her side, flying faster.
“Mikasa, wait-” Feli had no choice but to also increase her pace. She saw Mikasa land on the roof and shot her hook into the chimney beside her. Only once she settled did Feli understand the look of horror on Mikasa’s face.
“Just like that! Keep breathing! Captain! Armin is breathing again!”
Eren’s Titan marks ran deep like blood-red rivers on his cheeks. The body beneath him was scorched beyond recognition and letting out the most horrible wheezing sounds. That… couldn’t be Armin, could it?
Mikasa’s hand grasped at her hair, and pinpricks of panicked tears formed at the corners of her eyes. That was all Feli needed to know that Eren wasn’t being delusional, and that… that thing really was Armin.
Just how did it come to this?
Captain Levi stood across from them. He was covered head to toe in blood, and steam curled around his body in thin wisps.
“Captain, get the syringe!” Eren yelled.
How was the Titan serum supposed to help here, was all Feli could wonder. Armin looked minutes away from death. The only Titan Shifter in their custody was Reiner, and Feli didn’t think they’d be able to get him here fast enough. Was Eren really going to sacrifice himself to save Armin?
Eren moved to the other end of the roof and dragged a figure up by the back of his shirt. And that was too much for Feli to bear.
“Turn Armin into a Titan and have him eat Bertholdt!”
Bertholdt had been dismembered in the same fashion as Reiner, his chest rising in long, shallow breaths. Not even conscious enough to understand the gravity of the situation.
“Bertl…” she could barely hear her own voice.
Levi took out the case containing the syringe and serum, moving slowly and methodically as he extended his hand out to Eren. This seemed to snap Mikasa from her daze, as she reached for her flare gun and loaded in a round.
“Mikasa…” Feli tried to plead with her. Their eyes met, and there was the briefest glint of an apology left unspoken. Then, Mikasa’s face hardened, and she put her arm up and fired. Red smoke filled the air.
Reiner would be killed in the next few seconds. And, with that, Bertholdt remained their only choice.
The case was within Eren’s reach. However, just before the transfer could be completed, all of them heard a creaking sound from the other side of the roof, and turned.
“Captain,” Floch’s voice was strained and unsure. “I… finally reached you. I found the Commander.” At this, something in Levi’s eyes shifted. “He’s badly wounded, and I just can’t stop the bleeding. I thought maybe the injection could help, but what do you think?”
Without another word, Levi pulled the case away from Eren’s outstretched hand. Floch pulled himself fully onto the roof and laid Commander Erwin’s body for them all to see. Levi knelt at his side, felt his heartbeat.
“He’s… still alive,” he said, almost in awe. With that, Levi turned to face all of them.
“I’m using the injection on Erwin.”
Even though Levi’s tone of voice left no room for argument, Eren still tossed Bertholdt aside and pressed his face against the Captain’s. If Feli thought that Hange’s uncharacteristic rage had been frightening, then she had forgotten just how truly unsettling Eren could be. At that moment, she would hesitate to even call him human.
And yet, she couldn’t find it in herself to care. Armin, or the Commander. She just didn’t care. She walked past Mikasa, even as she started to shakily draw her blade, and knelt on the edge of the roof next to Bertholdt. Hesitantly, she reached out and brushed a hand through his hair.
Not a single change on his sleeping form. He didn’t even register the danger he was in.
Feli shuddered. She had made peace with his death. She had accepted it, hadn’t she? She had tried to fight him, she had tried to kill him, because that was the only choice he left them.
So why did seeing him like this hurt so much?
“Do you two even understand what you’re doing?” Levi’s voice cut into her mind. Eren had one hand wrapped around the vial, but Levi kept it firmly within his grip. Mikasa’s sword was at her side, arm shaking.
“It’s Erwin, the Commander of the Scouts. And you expect me to just let him die?”
“Why didn’t you hand the serum over right away?” Eren seethed. “You couldn’t have known that Floch would drag him here.”
“I was considering the possibility that Erwin might be alive,” Levi answered honestly. “And now he’s here, so I’m using the serum on him.”
“How…” Feli spoke before she had the chance to think. “How do we guarantee that the serum will even work? What if we get another Rod Reiss situation on our hands? We can’t risk that. We can’t trust that serum.”
“Just what are you suggesting, Feli?”
Eren’s anger had never been directed at her specifically. And it wasn’t just him. The disbelief and ire of Levi, Mikasa, and Floch also reached her. Feli knew then and there that whatever semblance of friendship she had with Eren and Mikasa had been shattered. Still, she had made her decision, and she needed to stick with it.
“We- we can get information out of him. About the Titans, the enemy-”
“We’re not putting a traitor over Armin or the Commander!” Eren yelled. “Do you honestly think he’ll talk?!”
“We have ways of making people talk!” Feli felt her own voice rising to match Eren’s. “Even the most diligent ones! Don’t we, Captain?!”
Levi didn’t give the personal, stinging blow any mind. Still, he looked Feli right in the eyes as he spoke. “Even if I was confident I could break him, it’s too much of a risk. Any injury we inflict will give him a chance to turn into a monster, and that’s a liability we can’t afford.”
Feli’s heart shriveled with every word, her momentary confidence seeping out of every pore. She shook her head in disbelief and tried to formulate any sort of argument for her position. “But-”
“Bertholdt’s fate is already decided. Feli, sit this out.”
Levi’s order was resolute and absolutely final. If anything, he was offering her a mercy by letting her step aside.
Feli gently shook her head as she tried to keep the tears from falling. She couldn’t believe this, she couldn’t accept this. Sure, Bertholdt was an enemy of humanity, and using him to revive either Erwin or Armin would probably be objectively beneficial for everyone inside the Walls. But… Eren and Mikasa, even Levi and Floch, it almost seemed like they didn’t see Bertholdt as human anymore, unworthy of even the slightest consideration.
She sat there, shaken, as Eren tried to snatch the serum from Levi. She stayed still as Levi nearly threw Eren from the roof with a punch so hard it shattered his jaw, and she didn’t move as Mikasa tackled their captain against the shingles and held her sword to his throat. She didn’t say a word as Floch tried to intervene, and she remained silent as Hange appeared and pulled Mikasa away.
“This can’t be real. You’re kidding me.” Feli looked up to see Jean and Connie had come with Hange. Reiner was nowhere in sight. Jean looked at the three bodies on the roof in disbelief. There’s something broken in his voice.
“Jean, what do I do?” she asked as the reality of the situation pressed upon her shoulders. Levi had opened the case and was shifting the serum into the syringe. Mikasa screamed and cried in a way so unlike her. The only time Feli recalled seeing her in this state was when they found Eren emerging from the nape of his Titan for the first time. Only now, instead of relief, she only felt despair.
Jean looked down at Feli with a look of sympathy. He couldn’t find the words to say, but Feli could tell he knew exactly how she felt.
Mikasa looked ready to break Hange’s arm to escape their grasp. “Please, Mikasa! You have to understand how much humanity needs Erwin!”
“We- we need Armin, too!” she cried out.
“It’s true, Armin is exceptional,” Hange agreed. “But he doesn’t have Erwin’s experience or leadership skills!”
When it was clear Mikasa deemed that logic unacceptable, Hange looked down and spoke from the heart. “There’s so many people I want to bring back, too. Hundreds at this point. I’ve been saying goodbyes since the day I joined the Scouts. But, eventually, you’ll have to let go of everyone you’ve ever known. I know it’s hard, I know it’s painful. I know. But even so, we just have to keep moving forward.”
Hange’s tight hold on Mikasa turned into something more resembling a hug. Mikasa shuddered and let out one more teary sigh before going still. A look of depressed finality came over her face. Still deeply upset, lost within her grief, but willing to stand aside and let Armin die. Feli wondered what this meant for her. If Mikasa, the strongest of them, is willing to let her cherished friend die in order to save the commander, shouldn’t she do the same? Let Bertholdt get his just desserts, a worthy punishment for all the pain he caused.
“All of you, get out of here!” Levi called, holding up the syringe. “I’m going to turn Erwin into a Titan and have him eat Bertholdt.” Despite the Captain’s warning, Eren grabbed Levi’s ankle and continued begging.
“Do you know what the sea is, Captain? It’s a body of water so vast it stretches beyond the horizon. It’s so deep that merchants wouldn’t be able to get all the salt from it. It’s been… our dream to see the sea since we were kids. But, I had forgotten all about it! Killing the Titans, avenging my mom, all of my thoughts were filled with hate! But Armin’s not like that! He has dreams! The person who’s going to save humanity isn’t me or the Commander! It’s Armin!”
There was something so deep and desperate in his voice that gave Levi pause, but he didn't turn. Floch hoisted Eren to his feet with a grunt and shot out a wire from his ODM gear. The two of them were off the roof, Eren still reaching his hand out towards the burnt body on the roof.
“We should go,” Hange said, departing from the roof. Mikasa followed a second later. Jean swore in horror under his breath but followed his orders, and Connie gave Armin a heartfelt farewell as he carried the still unconscious Sasha away.
This left just Feli and Levi on the roof. He looked at Feli expectedly. Feli let her eyes fall to Bertholdt again, across the Titan markings making his cheeks and eyes look shallow and sunken in, across the dismembered limbs still letting out steam, across the pained, upturned eyebrows and the mouth hung slightly open in exhaustion.
He looked so small.
“I’m sorry, Bertl.”
Feli jumped from the roof and let her ODM gear carry her to the roof several blocks away where the rest of the 104th had gathered. Eren’s cries came out wrong and waverly with half his teeth missing. Mikasa clung to him, half holding him back and half crying into his shoulder. Jean and Connie, both injured and exhausted, could hardly stand straight. Feli’s injured right leg buckled beneath her, and she crawled to the other side of the roof. She knew one of them said her name, tried to offer her some comfort. She didn’t care.
Feli tried to ignore everyone and everything around her as she covered her ears, eyes pointedly locked towards the smoking roofs and the gray wall before her. She didn’t want to be a witness to what was about to occur.
It still wasn’t enough to block out all the sounds.
She could hear the surprised gasps of her cohort through her cupped ears. The air sizzled with the heat of a Titan transformation. Feli curled into herself, trying to block out the pain of the outside world. And then…
And then came the screams.
Feli had heard them before. These were the same type of screams she’d heard from her aunt when a Titan grabbed her, from her father as he raced back in a futile attempt to save his sister. They reminded her of Trost, of all her fellow cadets who had been eaten alive. It was a helpless, guttural, human scream.
She curled up tight, pressed her hands closer. She couldn’t move, she mustn’t move. To move now would be-
“Guys! Help me!”
And just like that, on instinct, Feli was moving. She pushed past the others. She vaguely heard Jean call out to her, she vaguely felt the tips of Mikasa’s fingers grazing the back of her jacket. For the life of her, Feli could not explain how she managed to get past them all, but she just kept moving.
Bertholdt might have been a monster, but he was also a sixteen year old boy, begging people he considered to be his friends to save him. And Feli couldn’t let him be sacrificed.
Bertholdt was already halfway into the Titan’s mouth, flailing helplessly as his limbless body could do nothing to save him from his fate. Feli vaguely recognized the Titan’s straw-colored bowlcut, and it struck a painful chord in her heart. She silently apologized to Armin for the fate she was subjecting him to. With a single strike, she severed the Titan’s hand. Before Bertholdt could fall, she tucked his still struggling body against her side, much lighter than she expected with most of his extremities gone.
A furious scream from behind her reached Feli’s ears, and she expelled as much gas as she could from her ODM gear, allowing her to move faster than Mikasa as she headed for the wall.
“Let him go! Give him back!” Mikasa shouted at her. Feli knew how desperate she must be. Mikasa had resigned herself to Armin’s death, and she wasn’t about to let this hope die again.
“I’m sorry. I can’t do that.” Feli clung to the smooth crevice of the wall. Bertholdt had stopped struggling in her grip, though Feli didn’t know if he had lost consciousness again or had realized he was being rescued. Feli didn’t waste another second as she scaled the wall. She paused for a moment on top of the wall as the others convened near the newly transformed Titan. Eren glared at her with unfathomable hatred.
“You damn traitor!”
Feli accepted his judgment and slid down the other side of the wall. She found her horse and roughly set Bertholdt down in front of her. She kicked the horse into a gallop, and the two traitors raced deep into Wall Maria territory.

Spoilers Begone
With Rebirth's release mere hours away, and the increasing risk of spoilers seeping into even the most well-curated social media feed as a result, it's time to batten down the hatches. Going radio silence until March. I may visit mutuals or reply to the occasional message, but no more idle scrolling for me until well after the 29th. With that in mind, I'll leave you with some final thoughts and predictions…
On shipping vs. respecting the narrative
The shipping wars have been done to death. We all know this. Nearly three decades of pointless bickering about whether CloTi or Clerith is canon, as if that's the only thing that matters about FFVII's story.
Judging by its promotional materials, Rebirth seems to be leaning very heavily towards Clerith. However, this may yet turn out to be a red herring. We just don't know, and won't know until Square finally unveil their true intentions regarding the remake trilogy as a whole. As much as they've revealed of the game thus far, they've been equally careful to conceal their ultimate goals in creating it. In other words, right now they are playing us harder than Kojima did back when Metal Gear Solid 2 was still in development.
My own bias is towards Clerith, obviously, but… to be perfectly honest, at this point I don't give a damn whether they canonize it or not, or even if they end up going completely in the other direction. So long as these characters find some kind of happiness and closure at the end of the road, (and so long as it all makes sense for the story) I'll be satisfied. People get so caught up in all this shipping nonsense that they often forget that, at the end of the day, this element is intended to be in service of the STORY, not the other way around. I'm no exception to this.
That all being said, I'm not particularly worried about Clerith being sunk at this point. I mean, have you seen the trailers? That, plus two separate theme songs about Cloud and Aerith expressing their longing to be together? It's not hard to see where all this is going. (Also, canon or not, I'm not going to stop liking Clerith just because it gets sunk by the narrative. The fuck were you expecting?)
Obviously, I want to see as many Clerith moments as possible in Rebirth, but I don't want Square to leave CloTi fans out in the cold. I'm not that petty. That interpretation of the story clearly means a lot to a great many fans, and I believe they deserve to get their fair share, too.
To be honest, I've always thought that the remake trilogy was an opportunity to undo some of the damage that the ambiguity regarding Cloud, Tifa, and Aerith's relationships has wrought. And the simplest way to do that would be to let individual fans control how that part of the story plays out, similar to something like Mass Effect. It might not be a perfect solution (and some fans might quibble that doing so would be a cop-out from Square's "true" intentions), but at least that way, everybody gets something.
But even that, I suspect, ultimately won't fix the fandom. Which leads me to my next point…
Rebirth won't settle the love triangle debate (and neither will the trilogy's concluding act).
This is admittedly a somewhat pessimistic prediction on my part. I'm hoping that with the conclusion of the remake trilogy, maybe the fandom can grow up somewhat and that CloTi and Clerith shippers can finally bury the hatchet. But even if Square were to go so far as to include a full-blown romance, wedding, etc. for one pair or the other, even that probably won't end the debate. My suspicion is that the topic of discussion will simply shift over to arguing about what the developers' ORIGINAL intentions were, before the remake trilogy or even the compilation came to be.
Here we may observe a pair of goalposts, endlessly shifting.
Aerith will (probably) die.
Much as I would like to see Aerith survive and flourish, I find it highly doubtful that Square would leave out one of the most iconic scenes in video game history. So, at the very least, Aerith will probably "die" in some way, and her funeral scene will undoubtedly be in Rebirth in some form. I can't imagine Square retelling FFVII's story and leaving out this moment entirely. It'd be like removing the baptism scene from the Godfather.
However, something tells me Aerith won't stay gone this time around. Whether she ends up in the afterlife, or in a state of limbo, there's little doubt in my mind that she'll return for the grand finale. Furthermore, I would argue that she's already been resurrected in a meta sense. Fans who insist that Aerith needs to stay dead in order to uphold the original title's themes of loss and grieving (the ones who aren't being disingenuous and insisting on this point merely to promote CloTi, that is) are forgetting that it isn't 1997 anymore. The rules aren't the same.
That said, I do expect that Aerith will die at the end of Rebirth. "No Promises to Keep" seems to be foreshadowing as much, and it would make sense for the song to play over the end credits (intended to soften the blow, perhaps, or to tide us over until part 3), reaffirming once again that Cloud and Aerith's bond is stronger than death.
As Vera Lynn once sang: "We'll meet again, don't know where, don't know when. But I know we'll meet again some sunny day."
In closing
The wait has been excruciating, but it's nearly at an end. We all have strong opinions on this story and these characters, so the occasional dust-up is inevitable. (I'm as guilty of that as anyone else. I can be an absolute gremlin online, I'll admit it.) But with Square's aim being to deliver a maximalist reading of FFVII's story, jam-packed with every beloved moment and quirky element of the original title dialled up to eleven, there should be plenty of content for everyone to enjoy.
So whatever differences we might have, whatever characters you choose to ship together, etc., I want to take the opportunity to wish you all well, and I sincerely hope that everyone has a great time playing Rebirth.
Signing off until March.
Cheers, -Scitor

i really like dmc2's vibes and aesthetics, i love lucia's devil trigger design a lot (maybe my favorite in the whole series) and i think i actually prefer majin devil trigger to sdt in 5 design wise. i honestly didn't even mind the gameplay much either until getting to some of the late game bosses that just suck to fight, specifically that one that's like three faces floating around in a void or something? but it also gets more props for having a clearer sense of direction than the first game or even 3 sometimes. i still think it's a pretty bad dmc game but it has some good qualities ppl don't really talk about besides dante's outfit (which IS the best one tho)
UES YES YES DMC2 POSITIVITY IN MY ASK BOOOOOOOOX
I think a lot of the issues (weird story telling/shoddy gameplay and boss design) can be summed up to the fact that the game was basically finished in 3 months. I think dmc2’s main concept and design is some of my favorite, and I honestly loved the ruins/cityscapes and thought the idea of parkour ing through towers is rad as hell. Additionally Lucia is one of my fave dmc characters (I’m talking top 5) and she has my fave devil trigger design in the whole damn series (closely followed by Nero’s dmc5 dt ;P). I think Dante’s characterization in the game is more spot on than people give it credit for, since for some reason he just doesn’t talk in the games opening levels? Overall, above all else, I think dmc2 just needs a remake. Since there’s a big surge in game remakes with re4r and metal gear solid triangle, it’s the perfect year to start producing a dmc2 remake- and I think a lot of people would be open to it! It’s not a game that’s doomed by its very concept and mechanics- and I think modern controls will really help the game shine like it deserves to :)
#thank you so much for giving me an excuse to gush about dmc2#+ I desperately wanna see Dante’s cunty diesel outfit in HD#dmc#bonersquat

In a vast and interconnected universe, where worlds collided and heroes clashed, an unexpected love story began to unfold. The mighty Doom Slayer, feared by demons and revered by humans, found himself inexplicably drawn to the enigmatic bounty hunter, Boba Fett, from the Star Wars galaxy.
Their paths crossed amidst the chaos of a battle-scarred planet, where both warriors fought side by side against a common enemy. Their shared prowess on the battlefield created a powerful bond, one that transcended their differences and sparked a flame of desire.
As their relationship blossomed, another legendary hero entered the scene. Master Chief, the stoic and battle-hardened Spartan from the Halo universe, had long admired the Doom Slayer's unwavering determination. However, upon witnessing the undeniable chemistry between Doom Slayer and Boba Fett, a love triangle emerged.
Torn between loyalty and newfound affection, Doom Slayer found himself torn between two worlds. Boba Fett's charisma and Master Chief's unwavering dedication both captured his heart in unique ways. However, amidst this emotional turmoil, an unexpected betrayal loomed on the horizon.
Snake, the legendary operative from the Metal Gear Solid series, had secretly watched the events unfold. Driven by his own agenda and harboring a long-standing grudge against the Doom Slayer, he saw an opportunity to disrupt the blossoming romance. Snake's betrayal sent shockwaves through the lovers' alliance, testing their trust and resolve.
Yet, amidst the chaos and heartache, love persevered. Doom Slayer, Boba Fett, and Master Chief found solace in each other's arms, forging an unbreakable bond that withstood even the greatest trials. Together, they faced the challenges thrown their way, fighting not just for survival but for the love that had grown between them.
In the end, love conquered all. The Doom Slayer, Boba Fett, and Master Chief stood united, defying the odds and proving that love knows no bounds, not even across different realms of existence. Their love story became a legend, whispered throughout the galaxies, inspiring others to embrace the power of love and connection in the face of adversity.
This was an idea I had and ChatGPT executed 😻😻😻
And so, their intertwined destinies continued, bound by a love that transcended dimensions, leaving an indelible mark on the annals of heroic tales.
