Merry Kissmas, Day 9

Now that Merlin knows Arthur will just attack him with kisses at any moment, he’s on edge as he arrives to work and looks around warily as he takes his seat. Gwen is already at her desk and notices.

“Are you alright?” she asks, pushing her chair out to get a look at him.

“I’m fine,” he says, starting up his computer. “It’s just this thing with Arthur. It’s a game now. A competition. So that means he’s going to be ruthless.”

“Ruthless at... kissing you.”

“Yes.”

“Oh, how horrible,” she says, like she doesn’t think it’s horrible at all.

“It is. We’re tied right now, so he’s gonna try to take the lead.”

“How does it work?”

“Whoever kisses the other person first gets a point. One per day. Honestly, Gwen, keep up.”

“And this all started because of chocolate?”

Merlin nods.

A big smile begins to spread over Gwen’s face as she regards Merlin’s pained expression. “The two of you,” she says, shaking her head.

“What?”

“You’re adorable.”

“Adorable? He’s ridiculous. Pompous. Gloating. I can’t let him—”

Merlin is interrupted by his head being tilted to the side by two fingers under his chin and Arthur’s lips meeting his. Arthur snuck up on him while he was talking to Gwen. Merlin recoils. “Gwen!”

She laughs.

“You gotta warn me when he’s behind me!”

She continues to laugh and Arthur looks triumphantly down at him.

Merlin glares at them both in turn.

“I’m in the lead now,” Arthur says. “Five to four. I look forward to your strategy for tomorrow.” He turns and walks away.

Merlin stares at him as he leaves, at first in disbelief, but soon realizing he’s staring at his arse. He turns back to Gwen, who still has laughter in her eyes.

“What?” he says again.

“The pair of you,” is her only explanation.

Merry Kissmas, Day 1

Merlin and Arthur have been best friends since the day Merlin saved Arthur’s life and Arthur’s father rewarded him with a job at his company. It was quite silly, really. All Merlin did was pull Arthur out of the way of a speeding car when the stupid prat had tried to cross the street without looking both ways. If anything, Arthur should have been punished, instead of Merlin rewarded. Either way, they have been reluctant best friends ever since, hanging out at work every single day even though Arthur holds a much higher position in the company than Merlin and works on a different floor.

With Christmas approaching, Merlin decides to give Arthur a gift. Nothing too personal, just something to let Arthur know Merlin is thinking about him. Of course, Merlin is always thinking about Arthur. Coming up with jokes, filing away things to tell him about as they happen, thinking of ways to make him smile. It’s what friends do.

Merlin thinks his gift will make Arthur smile.

He’s wrapped it as well as he can, in garish red paper with green Christmas trees, no bow so Arthur doesn’t think he’s coming on too strong. This is their second Christmas as friends and they didn’t exchange gifts last time, so it’s important Merlin gets this right.

He gives it to Arthur after lunch in the employee break room on the first day of December. Having hidden it on his lap for the entire break, waiting for the room to mostly empty, he pulls it out after all their food has been eaten and they’ve been sitting across from each other, just chatting and it’s almost time to return to work.

“Merry Kissmas!” Merlin exclaims with a grin, holding out the brightly colored box over the table.

Arthur’s eyebrows pull together. “I don’t think you pronounced that right,” he says, taking the gift.

“No, I did. Merry Kissmas.” He pointedly pronounces the last word more clearly. “Open it.”

Arthur gives him another strange look, then turns to the gift and opens it. It’s a box of chocolates. More specifically, an Advent calendar of Hershey’s kisses with the words “Merry Kissmas” plastered on the front. “Oh,” Arthur says. “Kissmas. I get it.”

Merlin smiles proudly. “I wanted to get you something you could enjoy for twenty-four days. And you can keep it at your desk and have to think about me every time you look at it.”

“Ugh.” Arthur grimaces.

“Do you like it?”

“Yes, I like it. Thank you, Merlin.” With the small smile Merlin had been waiting for, Arthur stands and throws the paper in the bin.

Merlin stands as well, ready to get back to work. “You’re welcome.”

“You know, when you said ‘Kissmas,’ I thought you meant....”

“What?��

“You know, like this.” Arthur presses his lips to Merlin’s for just a second.

Merlin’s mind goes blank for a time and he looks, shocked, at Arthur, unable to speak.

“It was a joke,” Arthur says hurriedly.

“Right,” Merlin says, blinking to come back to Earth. “A joke. I get it.”

“Yeah. Thanks for the gift.” Arthur pushes past Merlin, looking for all the world like he’s embarrassed.

Merlin touches his fingers to his lips.

I'm squeezing in a Christmas movie (Merry Kissmas) and in the opening credits, while the lead couple are checking into a hotel, they pass by those two people. Clearly in cosplay. And I am sitting here going, "...was there a comic convention going on while this was filming??"

Amusingly enough, they actually made it to the IMDB trivia page. "In the beginning of the movie there are two people walking in the hotel lobby dressed like Isabella and Fenris front Bioware's Dragon Age franchise."

With a bit more digging, I id'ed the hotel, the Millennium Biltmore in LA, and with a more digging from *there*, they are indeed a host hotel for Anime Expo, so that feels like a safe bet as to how this weid moment happened.

I hope somehow those people know they had a random cameo in a silly movie because they were dressed up at a con.
