I've been so occupied with other stuff I forgot to share this to tumblr! It's the print I made earlier this month before attending a local con.

A little serpent lady's been captured, but the exact story happening here is up to you.

This is my first print that isn't fanart. It's prompt #3 from last years mermay: "steampunk". At this rate, it will take me 15 years to finish 2024 mermay... oh well! 🤷‍♀️

Merfolk Welcome!

Hi everyone! Once again I am not jiving with the 'official' mermay prompt list. So this time, I decided to take matters into my own fins.

I have put together a list which includes some really neat sea creatures that I look forward to drawing as merfolk. Some of these are ones y'all might recognize, but I hope there are fishies on this list that are fun new discoveries!

I also invite whoever would like to participate to take on however much, or little of the challenge as they would like, as well. I would love to see other people's interpretations of these fishy friends 😍

• autistic human has a special interest in rocks, mer brings them rare rocks that are usually expensive or impossible to hide

• mer has long hair that gets in their way and human braids their hair for them

• mers show love and court by offering seashells that are special to them. gives clueless human the sea shell who accepts it everytime and mer thinks they're madly inlove and always brings them trinkets

• mers make little sounds that are oceanic to express their love, human partner tries to mimick them back to express their love and mer is very excited

• human has fear of water from when they were little, mer helps them feel comfortable with swimming and water

Where we temporarily detach from the usual Halloween-y Inktober-y vibes full of pumpkins, autumn leaves and undead horror, and instead enjoy the warmth, smell of the ocean, and underwater horror! (Because it’s still me and I gotta throw some edge in there, right?)

Here’s the rules!

If you want me to see and collect your art here, tag this blog, currently named @ traumas-mermay-2025 !! I will also be following and checking two tags, #traumasmermay and #traumasmermay2025 (if some brave and awesome soul posts on AO3, use these same tags and feel free to tag me @ secreterces5)

No specific fandom for this one! I know mostly TMNT folks follow me on here, but hey, this is a chance to show off OCs, DnD ideas, and other blorbos you would like to turn into fish people! Can’t wait to see them!

ANY ARTFORM IS ALLOWED. Drawings/paintings physical and digital, writing long and short including drabbles and blurbs. I wanna see all of it!! Introduce me to new things I had no idea about! If I get insane enough I might try to make something out of clay!!

If you feel intimidated by a list of everyday prompts but would still like a structured challenge, fear not! You may instead focus on only the mermaid specific prompts, spaced out to occur every three or four days (the math was complicated on this okay don’t ask), focusing on fun mermaid designing . . .

. . . or you may pick one of the “sets” the list has been divided into, and try to create a linked story using the entire set!

Of course, you do NOT have to do all the prompts, you don’t have to do them in order (though I will schedule early art to post on the day of the prompt), and you don’t even have to post them in May! I’m down to accept late submissions until October, to be honest! Point is, feel free to take inspiration wherever whenever, and make only as many as you can without burning out <3

So in short: do whatever you fish! ;D

Some of these prompts can be turned into spooky art, and you are free and encouraged to do so, but always remember to tag with appropriate warnings!

These are mermaids and plenty of mermaids are not bogged down by human social standards. This blog allows naked mermaids, feel free to tag with nudity if you want and if you do, I will tag it in my reblog too. MerMay: Bodies of Water

Looking for something a little different for Mermay this year? I made a prompt list for myself that's focused on bodies of water found throughout the world. Please feel free to use if you like!

I myself am an enjoyer of other aquatic fantasy creatures in addition to mermaids, and wanted something that could apply to a wider range of subjects. You could literally just draw the landscapes; make merfolk based on the geographical features; put your OCs in the scenes; draw applicable scenes from popular media; ad infinitum! As I like to say, "go crazy and have fun." Maybe tag me if you use-- I love seeing how creative folks get 🌊🦈
