Hey what's up it's been awhile. This is one of the many things I'm working on! You may remember I drew this in 2020. I recently found the sketch file and decided to do it again! Reading stories and making memories 🖤 I had a great time at Petoskey's sidewalk sale yesterday. Thanks to @northgoods I was able to meet quite a few magical humans AND was able to share one of my favorite stories with them. Who DOESN'T love the story of "Tallulah: Mermaid of the Great Lakes?!" 💜 . Although I'm back in Lake Michigan now, you can still find Tallulah's story, Petoskey Stones and some beautiful Michigan Made treasures at NorthGoods in Petoskey. 🧜🏼‍♀️💎💫 . Wrapping up 2021 with Natasha Bowen’s Skin of the Sea. This epic fantasy follows Mami Wata (mermaid) Simidele whose sole purpose is to bless the souls who die at sea and send them back to Olodumare, The Supreme Creator. When she strays from her task and saves the life of a boy thrown from a slave ship, she must embark on a journey of atonement to save her patron goddess, Yemoja, and her fellow Mami Wata from destruction. This beautiful story of love and courage introduces the reader to a wonderful cast of characters and a rich colorful world filled with fairies (yumbo), gods (orisa), and more. I’ve learned so much from this book but I know it’s only the tip of the iceberg. The Yoruba pantheon is extensive and there are many stories about each deity. Skin of the Sea only touches on a few. Arabella Had 2 Kids after getting married to Ukapanipo Hekekia (Sulani Island NPC modify by me using CC’s) who was married and left his wife for Arabella because she begged him to leave her.

She had a thought time taking care of them as toddlers, now they’ve grown, they are child now and Arabella managed to keep them healthy and alive, full of love and also managed to take care of her own health and soul by doing things not only for her kids but for her too, you can see she relaxes in her bubble baths, hydrating herself ( as she is a mermaid and need this) , dancing,working and napping.

She is now pregnant again! Guess who’s the baby daddy!

Ukapanipo is the baby daddy again, yay! and this is because that is the man of her dreams...

Short Story Cookie

With a gulp, she dared to tread closer, using the small trunks as leverage. There was a glow underneath the water before her. The flashlight was found and scooped up, trembling the beam upon Billy’s discovery. It was tangled up in the finishing line.

A mermaid.

Or something like unto it. Billy has only heard about them in the ocean. Sirens that lure sailors to their deaths with their hypnotic voices. But they weren’t real, she thought. Those were only stories, fairy tales told from old books and cartoons. And yet, she is now standing over one, shivering before the sight.

The mermaid wasn’t scaly or had a seashell bra. She was smooth all over with delicate speckling along her tail. The torso’s skin was a pale green color with a dark pattern around her hips traveling up the spine until hidden under long, dark blue tendrils of hair. When she turned over, Billy’s eyes glanced into the dark, grey nipples of her breasts before capturing her face. She had an almond shaped head with sharp, dark cheekbones and smokey eyes filled up with despair.

The fishing line was wrapped around the mermaid’s arms. In some places, it dug too deep causing lines of blood webbing over the moisture of her skin. A long silence croaked by as the fisher and the catch stared at each other with a hard tension. The way the mermaid’s pleading eyes looked at her twisted a sickness in her gut, like someone was sticking her with a pitchfork. But if Billy let this rarity go free, no one would believe her claims. She gripped her knife and stalked ever slowly towards it. Upon the first step, the creature fought harder in her tangled trap, bucking like a bronco with the instinct to survive. 

“Hold up, now!” Billy squawked with fear, abandoning the flashlight once again to the depths. Lucky for Billy, the mermaid was caught on a high knoll so she couldn’t have much of an advantage in the water. She pressed a palm on the center of the mermaid’s back just above the dorsal fin, then plopped her rear on the tail to pin her. “Stop yer movin’ now! It’ll sure be a shame if yer pretty skin is all cut up!” A shame indeed, for the mounting won’t look too kindly on Billy’s wall. She was aching to prove that she was the best fisherman in the Bayou, just like her daddy. But those plans dissolved with the aching cry screaming out of the mermaid’s throat.

The anguish call pierced Billy’s entire being from her ear drums to the guts in her pit.  It was all too human, yet ethereal. Billy has killed many things before never something like unto herself. Guilt and shame tore into her chest with the beautiful but painful song ripping from the siren below her. Was she really that willing to vanquish such a rare and beautiful creature all for a bit of fame?

With a quick slice of her knife, the siren yelped one last time.
