Chapter 7: When Running Doesnt Work

“Seele, my dear sister-! To what do I owe the pleasure!” In an attempt to at least salvage a bit of his skin, Sampo leaped to his feet, nervously laughing as Seele stormed into the apartment. She didn’t even pause to kick off her shoes- beelining it to a very wary Sampo. “Please, if there’s anything this poor little Sampo can do to apologize-”

“Gepard Landau.”

Sampo stilled. 

The name fell like a heavy thud to the ground, silence ringing out from its crash. Sampo’s expression didn’t change, but she knew better- she saw the white knuckles, the slight shake to his eyes. She hadn’t spent years cleaning up after Sampo’s shit for no reason.

“That's the coworker, isn’t it. The one who hates you.” Shaking off the chill, Seele stalked forward, pulling up Gepard’s contact on her phone to get the picture of him on screen. Sampo’s lips thinned- bingo. Cold ice settled into the back of her neck, dread’s eyes flashing as she pinched the bridge of her nose. “Damnit. Of everyone you could pick a fight with.”

“I did not-” His protest was immediately silenced by a sharp glare. Something in her eyes made Sampo pause, something sown into vibrant purple. It felt familiar, and for a second her eyes were blue, narrow, with deep shadows under them. That same, animalistic, fear. 

Seele broke off her gaze, beginning to pace back and forth- something she only did when she was trying to gather and organize her thoughts. It let Sampo sidle on by, slipping past her to sit on the couch before she slowed down, taking a deep breath to look at her brother. He matched her gaze evenly, hints of wariness lingering deep in green eyes. 

For a second, they were back in their old house, a bandage taped to Sampo’s cheek- much younger, yet it felt all the same.

Stelle, she’ll probably keep annoying you until you finally talk to her “Babe? Baby? My partner in crime? Hellooo??” Will poke your cheek, tug your clothes or arms, bite your hand lovingly–Yeah that got you to finally talk to her while she looks at you with a smug face.

Black swan, who just chuckles to herself, amused by your silly antics. She knows this won’t last long as she predicts. She will, however, plant small kisses from your face to your jaw to…You press a finger on her lips and tell her to stop with a flustered look as she giggles.

Al Haitham, who will tell you that you are being ridiculous but will occasionally look at you to see if you are done with this silent treatment. He’ll notice that you have fallen asleep and carry you to his room, laying you on his bed as he sleeps beside you. Now, he’ll see if you will still be ignoring him.

Sampo, who will go down on his knees, holding your legs “My love! Please! Stop giving me this treatment! My heart cannot take it!” He whines, giving you one of those ‘puppy eyes’, you roll your eyes, smirking to yourself “My love! Have mercy on me!” He pouts, well, he’ll just have to keep doing this if it means to get you to start talking to him again.

Since you’re the trailblazer, there’s no need to pretend I’m not his sibling. But if it didn’t risk those shady men finding me, I’d be proud to call him my brother, and to be his sibling.

About Sparkle: Don’t deal with her. Ever. If you really need to, keep it short and sweet alright? She’s on the crazier side of the Masked Fools, and her pranks can go from zero to a billion in a matter of seconds. Not to mention how she can shapeshift, which is SO annoying to deal with… Look, just try not to talk to her often, lest she makes you a victim of her little “pranks.”

About Natasha: I don’t know how she does it. Be a doctor, take care of the kids, and be the leader of Wildfire all at once. But at the same time, it really suits her personality don’t you think? Kind enough to be approachable for patients and children, yet strict enough to make sure the kids behave and to run an entire organization. Not to mention her insanely large weapon!

About Luka: We’re pretty close! We met when I first joined Wildfire, and when I tell you I physically recoiled from how nice he is… It was a bit hard to believe someone could be that kind-hearted and caring at the time, but his warmth infected me. We like to spar to pass the time or fight the Fragmentum in Rivet Town, or I just watch his matches in the Fight Club. *Sigh* He’s… Really one of the best people I’ve ever met, and I love spending time with him. Huh? I’m not dreamy!!

About Seele: If you ask me, she could be a biiiiit nicer but oh well! But honestly, she’s like a teddy bear at heart… If only she wasn’t as prickly as a cactus on the outside. Huh? Oh no, no, we do get along! I just like teasing her… She’s a good person, that’s for sure. People tend to not look past the thorns when dealing with people in general, so be patient with her!

About Hook: You must mean Pitch-Dark Hook The Great, haha! I try to take some time to play with her and the other Moles often. Usually beforehand, I set up a set path so they can have an adventure through the Underworld while making sure they stay safe. Sometimes Luka joins in and the Moles have more fun with the extra company. It was the most I could do for those who haven’t seen the sky!

About Clara: She’s one of the sweetest girls I’ve met honestly, so willing to help others and to make sure everyone gets along… I can relate to that. She helped a lot in maintaining the peace between Wildfire and the vagrants due to her relationship with Svarog, and with helping provide medical supplies. Though I wish she would wear socks at least, her feet could step on something sharp…

About Pela: For someone of her profession, you’d never expect her to write the kind of things she writes or reads. Even illustrate! But I’ll be honest, she has good taste… Uh, there’s this one story she showed me called… I think “Palace Swimmer”? About some mermaids, and one’s a beacon… I haven’t been reading up on the more recent books yet, but she has a tendency to go for the sad ones…

About Serval: One of the best sisters I could ever ask for, of course~! She’s taught me a myriad of things: Guitar, machinery, make-up, some fashion advice… Yeah! Serval just has that approachable vibe to her now that I think about it, though I do remember being slightly intimidated by her when I first met her… Then again, I was scared to meet anyone back then.

About Lynx: Sadly, since she isn’t around Belobog often, we usually only text or have video calls of sorts. Sometimes I’ll teleport to wherever she’s camping and we catch up on things while stargazing or foraging for ingredients for cooking. Lynx always has something interesting to tell me about as someone who’s trying to traverse the entirety of Jarilo-VI, so it’s never boring at all! In return, I tell her about the planets I’ve visited!

About Gepard: Another big brother of mine! Honestly, I don’t even know how we got close. After not having evidence to arrest me multiple times, he just… Stopped. So I kind of just kept bothering him about random things whenever I could or when I was bored and Sampo wasn’t around. But I do have him to thank for helping me get to know Serval, Lynx, Pela, and the others. And for just being there in general.

About Bronya: I only started to really talk to her after the Stellaron incident on Jarilo-VI, since she was steadfast in her beliefs and wouldn't dream of interacting with a criminal back then! She was… Nicer than I expected, to be honest. Though, she works way too much that I swear I can see a few wrinkles… She isn’t Sampo’s age yet, so it’s just blasphemy! She needs more rest, but apparently Seele has been helping~

About Aventurine: … I don’t really know him, nor do I want to get to know him. He’s a Stoneheart from the IPC, and that speaks more than enough for me. For all I know, he could get me arrested or try to take Jarilo-VI into the IPC’s greedy hands. I don’t want anything to do with him.

About Topaz and Numby: I also don’t like her. All this campaign and for what? It’s not even a 100% guarantee that Belobog would’ve continued to thrive under the IPC’s care. If anything, if they got too advanced, they would’ve just nuked them. I just don’t like how she made everyone tip-toe. But I do admit her pet trotter is cute…

BONUS! About Oleg: He’s apparently some kind of legend in the Overworld, which was surprising but not surprising at the same time? I heard about him from Gepard, then asked Oleg himself. He told me a lot of stories from his heyday, and they never fail to impress me. It’s hard to believe that old man used to do that much back then, much less imagine it… But he has helped me train tons, so I suppose that tells me enough.

first we have the Fantasy au i made for Linked Universe, everyone is different fantasy species and have minore magic powers; Four is a minish, Warriors is a centaur (shire horse), Time is a moon spirit, Wind is a mermaid (betta fish), Legend is a water dragon, Wild is a lynel, Twilight and Hyrule are satyrs (ordon goat and deer specifically)

i actually played minecraft more than 2 hours for once, got a diamond chest plate and leggings + diamond pickaxe with 22 that idk what to do with, in working on either finding a nice ass cave to build an underground city in, a cherry blossom biome, or a spruce forest. my brain absolutely was in pain afterwards but it was worth it (damn glasses!)

i even made a little scenario up where the feisty five from uty were playing minecraft, Moray got most of the diamonds and died most of the time, Mooch was stealing coal from the community chest because she was mining and couldn’t find any but gave up in the end to just /give @s herself some coal, Ace was building in a cave, Starlo and Ed were just regularly mining while laughing and plotting to steal Moray’s diamonds

also practiced some guitar today, it was less than 15 minutes and most of it was me getting pissed off at tuning my guitar but i’m one more step closer to actually being able to play. and i did some art studies with wolves, cats, and general human bodies ‘cause good lord i need to start doing daily studies istg

Potato (bestie 1) went to a convention today, they got some prints of Jing Yuan, Sampo, and Kaveh that they hung up on the ceiling above their bed. they also got a haircut!

"Merfolk. And yes." Gepard finally spoke up from his placed against the doorframe. He was leaned against the wood, arms folded, t-shirt pulled taunt around him. "There are others walking around, but we don't know all of them."

"..Huh." Sampo finally sat up, leaning back against the counter. His mind was still reeling from this influx of information, glancing between everyone in the room. "That's.. huh."

"Surely you realize what this means now, right?" Serval chuckled as she brushed off her black jeans, walking back up to Sampo. She got right in his face, leaning down— her blue eyes were identical to Gepards. They even glinted the same way, reflective, and Sampo glanced the slightest bit down to see blue and purple-shifted scales peaking out from her freckles. "The kind of danger this knowledge holds— you realize whats at stake, right?"

Sampo tried to retort, but his body froze up again, words dying on his tongue as his body refused to move. He could only stare as Serval's teeth began to peek through her lips, smile getting dangerously sharp, as she leaned over, an arm on the counter behind him. His back felt like it was pressed to a wall, the little pricks of fear sharp gravel digging into his spine.

She got a little bit closer, leaning right over Sampo's ear.

"It means that if we get found out, your sister goes down with us."

ah man i really should finish writing the sequel to how easy you are to need but i just had this idea of a modern-ish dark-ish mermaid au where gepard moves to a quaint little foggy seaside town and he takes nice little walks along the rocky coast and one night while sitting at the docks and admiring the ocean, he meets sampo and sampo is... very clearly a mermaid or... siren or... something, and he isn't even trying to hide it and he's so easily striking up conversation with gepard and... is he flirting?

and gepard is fairly certain that he sees something akin to hunger in sampo's gaze whenever he looks at him, and there is a clear air of danger around him, and yet... gepard finds himself visiting the docks almost every night in hopes of seeing sampo again.

and without fail, each time they see each other, sampo is always trying to coax and lure gepard into the ocean and gepard is fairly certain that sampo wants to eat him, one way or another. he's not quite sure what type of hunger he's seeing, to be honest.

and maybe things happen and they fall in love.

and the thoughts are in my mind and the idea is developing rapidly and i really want to write it.
