Today my mom was singing Mirza Ghalib's most famous ghazal, "yeh na thi humari qismat" (This was not our destiny). I said her "Let me record " and she replied "I won't let you record. I know you'll post it on your Tumblr and your friends will laugh at my voice." 😆After a lot of persuasion she finally agreed. Please ignore my strange voice, I have cold.😅
ye na thi humaari qismat ke wisaal-e-yaar hota agar aur jeete rehte yahi intezaar hota.
It was not my destiny that there would be a union with my beloved. If I had lived further on, there would have been this same waiting.
ye kaha ki dosti hai ke bane hain dost naaseh koi chaarasaaz  hota, koi ghamgusaar hota
What kind of friendship is this, where the friends have now become advisors. If only there were some healer, if only there was some sympathizer.

In my language, we don't call our beloved "babe/baby." Instead, we use the term "Meri jaan," which roughly translates to, my soul, my life or the very bane of my existence and I think that is beautiful :)
PS: "Meri jaan" can also be used for platonic friends but is more popular among lovers.

Urdu is just too soothing, sounds beautifully attractive and is unreasonably romantic no because the shayar (and ghazal singer) be talking about heartbreak, separation and death and a person like me will find comfort in each and every line. (I am listening to Attaullah sahb's Idhar zindagi ka janaza uthega on repeat)

Today, as I was cleaning my drawers and study table, I stumbled upon my wooden box filled with memories and tiny treasures given to me by people I cherish, along with items that reminded me of loved ones. I found a neatly folded paper inside the box, which turned out to be a heartfelt poem I had written for someone I loved deeply, or perhaps still love dearly? I'm not entirely sure.
I recall writing this poem and later performing it at a grand open mic event. He was supposed to attend, but I urged him not to, fearing it might be too obvious a proposal. However, after receiving overwhelming love and support from the audience, we were both elated. A few days later, I mustered the courage to share the poem with him, and his reaction was beyond my expectations. I never imagined myself confessing my love through poetry, let alone sharing it with him, but I did, bravely. What was his reaction? Did he like it? Did he love me in return? Let's not delve into the complexities of my peculiar life.

Tujhe kabhi na bata paun mai, Haal-e-dil sada chupaun Mai. Kaise tujhko ye batadun ki Tere deedar ke liye ye aankhein taras gayi Hain, Har jagah, har lamha tujhe hi dhundhti rehti hain. Baavro jaise idhar udhar bhatakti rehti hain. Vo lamhe, vo choti mulakatein jab bhi Yaad aate hai, Tujhe phir ek dafa dekhne ko jee karta hai, Mera kann kann tera hi naam japta hai. Tujhse kai zyada dilkash to vo hai; Phir bhi main tujhe hi itna kyu chahti Hun? Phir bhi kyu mai teri ek jhalak dekhne ko Har hadd paar Karne par utar aati Hun? Phir bhi kyu tujhe bus taakte rehne ka mann karta hai, Teri unn mast nigaahon mein doob jaane ka mann karta hai? Phir bhi kyu, kyu mai hamesha tere pass rehne ki chaahat Karti Hun, Kyu tere door Jane par mera dil rota hai, Kyu Tere na dikhne par ye chain aur karaar se naata tod deta hai? Kyu tujhe uske saath hi Sahi, par khush dekhna pasand Karti Hun? Kyu tujhse koi bhool ho jane par mai hamesha teri tarafdaari Karti Hun Kyu sada ke liye tujhse door ho jaane se darti hun?
Kyun dinn Raat Mera Mann tere hi sapne bunta hai?
Kyun har baar ye use nhi, sirf tujhe hi chunta hai?

All the drinkers of the pub get stumbled but are balanced soon,
تیری نظروں کا جو جام پی لے
عمر بھر وہ سنبھلتا نہیں ہے
But whoever sees your intoxicating eyes, remains woozy for the rest of his life.

Dedicating Faiz Ahmed Faiz's poem to all the oppressed people throughout the world, specially Palestinians.
A few more days, my love, only a few days more
It is our lot to live under the shadow of tyranny
To suffer this outrage, to bear this pain, to weep awhile
This legacy of our past is our cross to bear
Our bodies are confined, our emotions in shackles
Worry is a prisoner, Speech is proscribed
But there’s a courage within us that keeps us going
It’s as if our very life is a beggar's garment
That needs to be patched with pain, time after time
But now these cruel times have almost run their course
This impatient longing is almost over
In this burnt desolation that is the world and its time
We have to go on, but not this way
The unbearable torment of unseen hands
The futility of heartburn, the body's unheard lament
Has to be endured for now, but not forever
This dust of sorrow that veils your beauty
This bounty of defeats on our fleeting youth
This worthless throbbing under moonlit nights
A few more days, my love, only a few days more

I had a question: did you know? When I followed you it is so, that I’ve been blessed ever since that time to get to know you. So this rhyme is just to say I’m glad you’re here Just by existing you bring cheer (my meter is no good in this not consistent. It’s a miss in that regard, but I’ll hope it makes you grin though not perfect…Nope)
T_T
My dear!!!!!!!!
You definitely made me grin, and squeal, and cry a little, and laugh a little too, and I read this probably a hundred times, and then I tried to write a reply in rhyme but that didn’t go very well…
SO! Just. Thank you. 🥹🥹🥹
