patron saint of horror: you're the patron saint of the dawning moment of realization. the patron saint of comprehension, maybe. the patron saint of understanding. the patron saint of knowing exactly what's going to happen. of seeing clearly. of not being able to look away.

patron saint of relics: patron saint of remembering. patron saint of holding something close. patron saint of holding on for too long. for a saint, a relic is often a part of the body, kept for some physical memento of their holiness. they are all in your hands, now: does it feel like remembrance? does it feel sanctified? are the dust and blood as precious as they're supposed to be?

patron saint of heartbreak: not of comfort. not of condolences. there is a heart and there is a fissure, a fracture, something that starts to splinter and break open. you're the patron saint of the way a heart is rent open. the way it tears itself apart. patron saint of the rift. patron saint of the gash. when they say to "open your heart" to somebody, you are the patron saint of bleeding out.

patron saint of martyrs: the patron saint of those who died to be like you. maybe you died to be like them too: but at the end of it, you weren't like them. patron saint of tragedy. saint of saints. it's you who holds the hands of the holy dead, and you who has to answer: what do they do if they regretted it?

patron saint of houses: but not of homes. only the shells of what keeps us enclosed. houses can be decorated or well-built or crumbling or haunted but only a home can truly be warm; you are the patron saint of that lack.

So after Heir of Novron, Royce is like this promised returning deity, or at least a very central figure to a prominent religion. All that to say, Hadrian one hundred percent uses his name as a swear word to mess with him. I'm imagining some back and forths like,

"By Melborn!"

Royce glares.

"Get it? Like by Mar?"

"Yeah, I got it. Don't ever do it again if you want to live."

Hadrian, pretending to be scared by Mercy and Allie, "Great unmerciful Melborn!"

"Do you want to fight Irawondonna again? I have the authority to do that, you know. I could have three of him attack you at once."

It all culminates when a teenage Mercy stubs her toe and shouts, "Ow! My father!" And Hadrian splits and RUNS to avoid being stabbed.

(Allie uses the variant "Mercy's Father!" and in 300 years or so Royce has to go to the human kingdoms for a diplomatic mission or smth and he hears some random peasant use it and is mentally stomping on Hadrian's grave while Mercy smothers giggles)

Some fe3h headcanons

Sylvain is some form of aroace/demiromantic.

He’s a flirt but in multiple supports it’s heavily implied that it’s an act. With Byleth he flat out says he ‘hates’ the women he flirts with.

Two of the stories we hear of him as a kid, the incidents with the scarecrow and Ingrid’s granny, both sound like someone trying to explore the limits of something they don’t understand. He probably saw the adults around him flirting and did it without understanding at first, but then it got him attention that wasn’t based on his crest so he kept it up. And later on her reputation was protecting him from a potential arranged marriage.

He has the fewest paired endings of any student. Two of those are his oldest and closest friends, and with Ingrid his feelings towards her clearly change in their A supports, as if romantic feelings for her only came about after a long and close relationship (demiromantic)

The other two are the people with the most in common with him. Both Mercedes and Dorothea have similar stories of objectification, And also they both have something to gain from the marriage. Sylvain and Mercedes both get people off their backs about arranged marriages and Dorothea gets someone to support her into old age.

And importantly both of these women are canonically bisexual, so it’s very possible that he could be acting as their “Beard” (a term for when two queer people get married to hide their relationships with other people of the same sex)

The main takeaway I got from his S support with Byleth was him swearing to never flirt again, which seems to be something that happens in all these endings. Possibly because he comes to understand and respect this part of him and that he doesn’t need that shield anymore.

I wish I had more to say about him and Felix because it’s my favorite but it’s also probably the closest thing to a debunk to this. Theirs is a pretty standard love story, two close childhood friends who drift apart because of circumstances and after overcoming their respective issues they come back together even stronger. They’re in love from day one and probably constantly fuck nasty. But that doesn’t necessarily exclude this theory.

Anyway Bernadetta is the least likely to join a polycule because she seems to value exclusivity and a form of endearment (best seen in her support with Caspar.)
