Hello once again. I thank you for your opinions regarding my previous question. It has provided valuable insight into the relationship between Rea and Yayoi and how future fans can interpret their relationship in their creative endeavors. Although, just like before, I come with a new inquiry. As I have looked back the series, I find myself wondering why certain Diary Holders do not properly reflect their mythological inspiration in certain aspects.
Of course not all of them are fallible to this shortcoming. Some of them are given traits that reflect their inspiration such as Tsubaki being an clairvoyant oracle and Kamado being a caring matron to orphans. Additionally, I do not mind if certain Diary Holders also have traits that are inverse of their inspiration such as Yukiteru being a timid and cowardly boy and Minene performing rather idiotic mistakes (I will never let her go for writing her real name and address on that beauty pageant form...). However, there are traits given that do not reflect other Diary Holders. As much as I enjoy the narrative weight of Takao being a serial killing teacher and Keigo as the cop hot on his trail, I do not understand how that correlate to their inspiration. Keigo's occupation is something I can see as an inverse of Mercury as the messenger god is also the god of thieves (an occupation Keigo came to loathe due to his father). However, Takao's occupation as a teacher is something I never understood as Vulcan was the god of the forge and fire. It's not as though smithing has become an extinct occupation in the modern era so I am confused why isn't he one.
Regardless, the crux of my inquiry is that are there any source of information regarding the reasons why Sakae Esuno chose those traits and occupations for the Diary Holders? It would be most enlightening if you could provide answers to my question. Once again, I thank you for your aid and I bid you a Merry Christmas and a Happy Holiday.
Thanks for the ask! I think this got lost in my backlog for a bit, and I'm sorry about that.
Sakae Esuno has only ever vaguely spoken about how the Roman gods correlate to the various diary holders. Mostly just to acknowledge that the correlations are there; I seem to recall he only specifically made the Yuno = Juno connection clear. So how do all the diary holders align with the Roman gods? .... Yeah, it's not always clear, and we really only have our own interpretations.
The first OP from the anime helpfully lists out the related gods for our reference: Juno, Jupiter, Minerva, Apollo, Mars, Ceres, Mercury, Diana, Bacchus, Vulcan, Pluto, Vesta, Venus. But not in that numerical order. So, for anyone else out there trying to make these names align with their respective diary holders, here's how it breaks down:
Yukiteru Amano (1st) — Jupiter
Yuno Gasai (2nd) — Juno
Takao Hiyama (3rd) — Vulcan
Keigo Kurusu (4th) — Mercury
Reisuke Houjou (5th) — Ceres
Tsubaki Kasugano (6th) — Apollo
Marco Ikusaba and Ai Mikami (7th) — Mars and Venus
Kamado Ueshita (8th) — Vesta
Uryuu Minene (9th) — Minerva
Karyuudo Tsukishima (10th) — Diana
John Bacchus/Balks (11th) — Bacchus
Yomotsu Hirasaka (12th) — Pluto
With that out of the way, here are my best guesses at how these Roman gods align with the Future Diary characters in question.
This is just my personal interpretation, of course, based on my own research and reading about the Roman gods. Your mileage may vary.
And as you say: Some of these links will be incredibly obvious.
But some of them? Oh lord. If you make it to the part about Twelfth/Yomotsu, I might leave you more confused than you came in.
SORRY/NOT SORRY IN ADVANCE.
(This is a long post. Prepare yourself.)
Yuki/Jupiter - Jupiter is the supreme god, the king of all gods. As such, he was also associated with supposedly granting the right of kingship/becoming ruler in ancient Rome. And Yuki is both the favorite to win the survival game (per Deus) and the ultimate victor in the said game, so... that checks out. In addition, Jupiter supposedly negotiated with the second Roman emperor to establish rules around giving sacrifices to the gods. That might be seen as a connection to Yuki ultimately having to kill Yuno.
Yuno/Juno - Juno is the goddess of love and marriage, but she also was known for her jealousy regarding Jupiter and for having a war-like, violent side. So. This one is obvious.
Tumblr media
Fiery man! Fiery guy! Of metal and stabbing!
Takao/Vulcan - Vulcan is the god of fire, volcanos, and metalworking. I can least least see the influence of "fire" in Takao's visual design given his bright red hair that flows out all over the place. But an interesting facet of Vulcan is his dual association with both the constructive and destructive aspects of fire. Because of this, Romans built temples to Vulcan only outside of cities so as to avoid inviting destructive fire into their own midst, and they often tried to encourage the god to avoid bringing them harm. The idea of a wanton destructive force that could rampage across your city aligns decently well with Hiyama's identity as a serial killer. Note how Takao's fiery red hair is tied back and controlled when he's being "constructive" as a teacher, but it's wild and unkempt when he's being "destructive" as a kiler. Furthermore, there's the "god of metalworking" aspect; Takao is solely reliant on a metal knife to kill his victims, so there might be a connection there.
Kurusu/Mercury - Mercury, the messenger, is the god of... a lot of stuff. Specifically: financial gain/commerce, eloquence/communication, travelers, boundaries, luck, trickery/tricksters, and thieves. Kurusu does win Yuki and Yuno over to his side with his words, and later on effectively negotiates multiple deals with Minene to get what he wants, so I think that covers the communication/eloquence aspect. You might even argue that the way he negotiates with his own enemies to get what he wants is a clever manipulation of "boundaries." But Keigo's ultimate betrayal of Yuki and Yuno serves as good example of "trickery," too. And... that's probably all I've got.
Reisuke/Ceres - Ceres is known for being associated with fertility. She is most immediately linked to agricultural fertility, but she also plays a role in marriages and motherly fertility, ultimately serving as an important patron to families. Reisuke's link to the idea of "family" is pretty much all over his storyline; see how he calls Yuno "big sis" and adores "playing" with her, and see how he pine for a normal family life in his chapter of Mosaic. In addition, I think poison being his favorite weapon is probably meant to link him with plants... but your mileage may vary on that. Also, there's the green. You can't deny that when you think "Reisuke," you think "green" — I think that's another example of the Roman god connection influencing the character's visual design.
Tsubaki/Apollo - Like Mercury, Apollo is the Roman god of bunches of stuff. But the most important thing is that he's the god of prophecy, truth, and light. Tsubaki is the figurehead of a cult dedicated to sight and foresight that's obsessed with eyeball imagery; not only did her followers believe Tsubaki had prophetic powers, but her diary eventually made those powers real. Apollo is also a patron of the protection of the young. Because of how Funatsu exploits Tsubaki and turns her into a perennial sexual assault victim, she kind of winds up taking her desire to protect others from a similar fate to a very unhealthy extreme by wanting to destroy the whole world, but I guess that could be seen as a corrupted version of protecting people. The fact that Apollo is the god of both healing and disease is an interesting dichotomy, too, that feels like it might have an application to Tsubaki's poor eyesightt somehow... ? Idk. But it's probably more likely that her eyesight is just a reference to various "blind prophet" mythlogical figures throughout history such as Tiresias.
Marco and Ai/Mars and Venus - You know what they (used to) say; "Men are from mars, women are from Venus" and all that. Mars is a god of war—or more specifically, "the use of war to secure peace," which I think fits Marco pretty nicely. The fact that his Apprentice Diary is combat-focused but only in a counter-attack way really reflects this. Venus is the goddess of love, beauty, sex, etc. — and obviously, Ai and Marco are devoted couple who serve as a point of comparison for Yuno and Yuki, whose own love is in pretty dire straits at that point in the larger narrative. So the "love" thing is clearly present in our dual seventh diary holders, but Ai's own Apprentice Diary also serves as a nice reflection of the Venus themes; it shows her men she's going to flirt with in the future, after all.
Kamado/Vesta - Vesta is the goddess of home and family. Kamado runs a home for orphans and is devoted to protecting the kids. Easy. NEXT.
Minene/Minerva - You can see vestiges of the name "Minerva" in the name "Minene" right off the bat, but let's go past the surface and look at Minerva. Like many Roman gods, she's all over the place, serving as a goddess of wisdom, war, law, justice, and the arts. Regarding her role as a goddess of war, Minerva is just like Mars in she has a particular niche within that field. She's specifically the goddess of "strategic thinking to secure victory." I think you can see that in Minene's diary allowing her to secure clever escapes. And although Minene isn't especially wise most of the time, she IS known to sometimes serve up nuggets of wisdom, such as when she's advising Yuki during the period when she's his "nurse."
Tumblr media
Wisdom.
You could also see her innate distrust of/disdain for gods as being a strange sort of wisdom given the reality she lives in—I mean, Deus isn't exactly a benelovent or loving deity. Minene is a pretty ironic character, though, as evidenced by her ultimately becoming a goddess in her own right despite her hate and distrust for all gods and religion. When you consider that, her being associated with a goddess of wisdom and justice despite being a hot-headed terrorist all seems like further extensions of that irony.
Karyuudo/Diana - Diana is goddess of nature, the hunt, and wild animals. Karyuudo keeps (and excessively dotes on) trained hunting dogs. Which are animals. Not wild ones (though they do be actin' wild AF when stalking our heroes) but still: animals are inherently a part of nature. You feel? NEXT.
Balks/Bacchus - Bacchus is the god of wine and pleasure. And John (whose last name is sometimes translated as "Balks" and sometimes just literally as "Bacchus") is often seen with a glass of wine in his hand, sure. But Bacchus is also one of the least-altered Greek gods when he was translated into the Roman pantheon. In fact, many Greeks alternatively called Dionysus "Bacchus" even before that name became his official moniker under Rome, because Dionysus could supposedly induce "baccheia"—a form of ritual madness/religious ecstasy that was said to alter your state of consciousness, expanding your internal mental and spiritual awareness by inducing visions and spasms of euphoria. In that regard, I think "baccheia" sounds a lot like what John was trying to do to Sakurami City's entire population. He wanted to give them ALL future sight, after all, and thereby expand the city into a global leader. Or perhaps you could interpret the "baccheia" as the awareness John believed he already possessed. Consider that the counterpoint to the internal awareness provided by the baccheia is said to be a severe reduction in external awareness. And in the end, despite all his intelligence, John definitely failed to understand a major external threat.
Yomotsu/Pluto - OH GOD IT'S TIME TO GET NUTS. Pluto is the god of the underworld and the Roman counterpart of the Greeks' Hades. Hades was a darker, more threatening figure in comparison to Pluto, who was portrayed as a positive concept of the afterlife. Just like with Bacchus, the name is derived from an alternative name the Greeks came up with first; they started calling Hades "Plouton" around the time they began giving him a more sympathetic portrayal. Although the Greeks' underworld of Hades was seen as a desolate and despairful place, the Romans' vision of Pluto's realm was a place of abundant riches. This is probably because they gradually conflated the Greek god "Plutus" (the god of wealth) with the Greek's usage of "Plouton" for the god of the underworld, and eventually they became the same damn thing.
....all of which is to say that there isn't much linking the Twelfth and Pluto in actual Roman mythology, honestly. The only obvoius connection is the most famous story of both Hades AND Pluto: the tale in which they abduct the woman they later marry, Persephone. And, well... Yomotsu sure does abduct a woman. Minene, y'know.
But now we have to GET SUPER NERDY. Because the "Plouton"/"Plutus" confusion is actually KEY, in my opinion, to understanding the connection between Yomotsu and Roman mythology
It's not just that the Romans came to conflate Plouton and Plutus, ultimately resulting in their unique vision of Pluto. Because Dante Alighieri made a similar mistake! Modern translators of Dante's Divine Comedy seem to agree that, although Dante wrote down the name of the Roman god "Pluto" for one minor character? Based on the description given of said character, he actually meant to reference "Plutus" and just... he either borrowed the Romans' name for their underworld god and assigned it to a Greek figure, or he simply made a mistake. (Because of the latter theory, a lot of modern Divine Comedy translations just use "Plutus" for this briefly-shown character because it's probably more accurate.)
Tumblr media
......BRUH.
All of this is leading into my theory that, despite the first OP of Mirai NIkki calling out "Pluto"? I believe Sakae Esuno was ALSO thinking about the Greek god "Plutus."
So screw Pluto; let's fucking talk about Plutus.
In Greek mythology, Plutus is the first being to introduce to humanity these concepts: (A) stealing is wrong, because people should only acquire wealth and property through their own diligence; and (B) people have a right to protect themselves and their own property, because that is justice. Plutus is pretty big on personal justice. But the B.C.-era Greek play Plutus by Aristophanes portrays Plutus as having been struck blind by Zeus. In the aftermath, he's living as a beggar, because his blindness has affected his ability to determine true justice. And instead of the good people earning more money than the evil people, as Plutus intended, wealth is now being distributed randomly, which runs counter to the justice he always wished to see in the world.
A focus on justice? Troubles with blindness??? Come ON.
That's GOT to be part of the inspiration for Yomotsu, right?

Capricornus is a faint zodiac constellation located in the southern sky. Its name means “the goat” in Latin. The constellation represents a sea goat, a mythical creature associated with the god Enki in Babylonian mythology and later with the Greek deity Pan. The constellation is represented by the symbol ♑.
Like other zodiac constellations, Capricornus was first catalogued by the Greek astronomer Claudius Ptolemy in his Almagest in the 2nd century CE. In Greek mythology, the constellation is associated with Pan, the god of the wild, and with the goat Amalthea, who suckled Zeus when he was very young.
Capricornus constellation is home to the eclipsing binary system Delta Capricorni (Deneb Algedi), the multiple star systems Beta Capricorni (Dabih) and Alpha Capricorni (Algedi), and the white giant Nashira (Gamma Capricorni). Notable deep sky objects in the constellation include the globular clusters Messier 30 and Palomar 12, and the compact galaxy group HCG 87. (Source: Constellation Guide)

Felix's Adult birthday took place the night after Velma's. He combined it with a fundraising party he hosted at the Port-a-Party Warehouse, neatly sidestepped a midlife crisis, closed the place down, and raised over 34,000 Simoleans for his campaign.
Of course he went home exhausted and stumbled through work the next day, but that's the mark of a successful night out, isn't it?

In a vibrant spring afternoon, the sun gently filtered through the windows of Aaron Mercury's luxurious apartment, highlighting the minimalist elegance that characterized his home. Aaron, a successful entrepreneur known for his ventures in the gourmet dining sector, was browsing through his social media. With over a million followers on TikTok, Aaron was famous for his videos blending business tips with a dose of glamorous lifestyle.
However, this tranquility was abruptly interrupted by a phone call that would change his life forever. The phone rang insistently, and upon answering, a deep, threatening voice spoke to him from the other side. It was Marco Díaz, a ruthless criminal who had managed to escape from prison. Marco, an expert in dark magic and occult arts, had devised a twisted plan to swap bodies with someone who could offer him a new life of luxury and power.
Tumblr media
In a moment of distraction, while Aaron tried to make sense of what was happening, Marco managed to transfer his consciousness into the businessman's body, leaving Aaron trapped in the criminal's body. Aaron suddenly found himself in a dark and unfamiliar world, unable to comprehend how he had ended up in this situation. Meanwhile, Marco, now in Aaron's body, relished in his new identity.
With the charm and appearance of a successful entrepreneur, Marco began to exploit the advantages that Aaron's life offered him. His physical presence, now more attractive and seductive thanks to Aaron's body, turned him into a sexier and more powerful version of himself. Marco skillfully navigated the high society circles Aaron frequented, seducing multiple women with his charisma and charm amplified by the body swap.
"Look how you shine now, Aaron," Marco murmured to himself as he observed his reflection in the mirror, appreciating every detail of his new appearance. "This body offers me more than I ever dreamed of. I have money, prestige, and power in the palm of my hand."
Meanwhile, the real Aaron Mercury, trapped in Marco's body, was forced to follow the criminal's orders. Marco had threatened to ruin his life and reputation if he resisted or reported him. Aaron, in a state of shock and desperation, was compelled to act as Marco's henchman, participating in increasingly dangerous and morally questionable activities to maintain appearances.
Over time, Aaron began to develop skills and knowledge that originally belonged to Marco. The merging of their identities started to alter his thoughts and behaviors, leading him to face internal conflicts about who he really was and what his future would hold. Despite everything, Aaron couldn't help but feel a growing sense of revulsion towards Marco's actions and how he was using his body to satisfy his own desires and ambitions.
The situation became even more complicated when Aaron, who had led a relatively reserved life before the body swap, suddenly found himself with a legion of admirers who were captivated by the charismatic and attractive businessman that Marco now appeared to be in his body. Women approached him at events and social gatherings, fascinated by his new aura of power and mystery.
"You can't escape this, Aaron," Marco reminded him with a sinister smile. "This body and this life are mine now. If you try anything, I'll destroy everything you've ever loved."
Weeks turned into months, and Aaron's life became a constant nightmare of lies and deceit as he struggled internally to find a way to reclaim his true body and expose Marco. However, every attempt to escape or reveal the truth was quickly quashed by Marco, who ensured he maintained absolute control over him.
Meanwhile, Marco, enjoying the fruits of his new life, exponentially expanded his drug trafficking network using Aaron Mercury's resources and influence to consolidate his position as one of the region's most feared and powerful criminals. His new appearance and charisma made him an even more enigmatic and dangerous figure within the criminal underworld.

Note: Good Omens is by both Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, it just doesn't fit in the character limit lol
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern (2011)
The circus arrives without warning. No announcement precedes it, no paper notices plastered on lampposts and billboards. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not.
Within these nocturnal black-and-white-striped tents awaits an utterly unquie experience, a feast did the senses, where no one can be lost in a maze of clouds, meander through a lush garden muse of ice, stare in wonderment as the tattooed contortionist folds herself into a small glass box, and become deliciously tipsy from the scents of caramel and cinnamon that waft through the air.
Welcome to Le Cirque des Rêvez.
Beyond the smoke and mirrors, however, a fierce competition is under way—a contest between two young illusionists, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood to compete in a “game” to which they have been irrevocably bound by their mercurial masters. Unbeknownst to the players, this is a game in which only one can be left standing, and the circus is but the stage for a remarkable battles of imagination and will.
As the circus travels around the world, the feats of magic gain fantastical new heights with every stop. The game is well under way and the lives of all those involved—the eccentric circus owner, the elusive contortionist, the mystical fortune-teller, and a pair of red-haired twins born backstage among them—are swept up in a wake of spells and charms.
But when Celia discovers Marco is her adversary, they begin to think of the game not as a competition but as a wonderful collaboration. With no knowledge of how the game must end, they innocently tumble headfirst into love. A deep, passionate, and magical love that makes the light flicker and the room grow warm whenever they so much as brush hands.
Their masters still pull the strings, however, and this unforeseen occurrence forces them to intervene with dangerous consequences, leaving the lives of everyone from the performers to the patrons hanging in the balance.
The Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss (2007-present)
My name is Kvothe.   I have stolen princesses back from sleeping barrow kings. I burned down the town of Trebon. I have spent the night with Felurian and left with both my sanity and my life. I was expelled from the University at a younger age than most people are allowed in. I tread paths by moonlight that others fear to speak of during day. I have talked to Gods, loved women, and written songs that make the minstrels weep.   You may have heard of me.
So begins a tale unequaled in fantasy literature--the story of a hero told in his own voice. It is a tale of sorrow, a tale of survival, a tale of one man's search for meaning in his universe, and how that search, and the indomitable will that drove it, gave birth to a legend.
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo (2015-2016)
Ketterdam: a bustling hub of international trade where anything can be had for the right price—and no one knows that better than criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker. Kaz is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams. But he can’t pull it off alone. . . .
A convict with a thirst for revenge A sharpshooter who can’t walk away from a wager A runaway with a privileged past A spy known as the Wraith A Heartrender using her magic to survive the slums A thief with a gift for unlikely escapes
Kaz’s crew is the only thing that might stand between the world and destruction—if they don’t kill each other first.
American Gods by Neil Gaiman (2001)
Days before his release from prison, Shadow's wife, Laura, dies in a mysterious car crash. Numbly, he makes his way back home. On the plane, he encounters the enigmatic Mr Wednesday, who claims to be a refugee from a distant war, a former god and the king of America.
Together they embark on a profoundly strange journey across the heart of the USA, whilst all around them a storm of preternatural and epic proportions threatens to break.
Scary, gripping and deeply unsettling, American Gods takes a long, hard look into the soul of America. You'll be surprised by what - and who - it finds there...

Humans and androids crowd the raucous streets of New Beijing. A deadly plague ravages the population. From space, a ruthless lunar people watch, waiting to make their move. No one knows that Earth's fate hinges on one girl. . . .
Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She's a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister's illness. But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai's, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. The Princess Bride by William Goldman (1973)
Westley ... handsome farm boy who risks death and much, much worse for the woman he loves; Inigo ... the Spanish swordsman who lives only to avenge his father's death; Fezzik ... the Turk, the gentlest giant ever to have uprooted a tree with his bare hands; Vizzini ... the evil Sicilian, with a mind so keen he's foiled by his own perfect logic; Prince Humperdinck ... the eviler ruler of Guilder, who has an equally insatiable thirst for war and the beauteous Buttercup; Count Rugen ... the evilest man of all, who thrives on the excruciating pain of others; Miracle Max ... the King's ex-Miracle Man, who can raise the dead (kind of); The Dread Pirate Roberts ... supreme looter and plunderer of the high seas; and, of course, Buttercup ... the princess bride, the most perfect, beautiful woman in the history of the world.
S. Morgenstern's timeless tale--discovered and wonderfully abridged by William Goldman--pits country against country, good against evil, love against hate. From the Cliffs of Insanity through the Fire Swamp and down into the Zoo of Death, this incredible journey and brilliant tale is peppered with strange beasties both monstrous and gentle, and memorable surprises both terrible and sublime.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl (1964)
Willy Wonka's famous chocolate factory is opening at last!
But only five lucky children will be allowed inside. And the winners are: Augustus Gloop, an enormously fat boy whose hobby is eating; Veruca Salt, a spoiled-rotten brat whose parents are wrapped around her little finger; Violet Beauregarde, a dim-witted gum-chewer with the fastest jaws around; Mike Teavee, a toy pistol-toting gangster-in-training who is obsessed with television; and Charlie Bucket, Our Hero, a boy who is honest and kind, brave and true, and good and ready for the wildest time of his life!
The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare (2010-2013)
Magic is dangerous--but love is more dangerous still.
When sixteen-year-old Tessa Gray crosses the ocean to find her brother, her destination is England, the time is the reign of Queen Victoria, and something terrifying is waiting for her in London's Downworld, where vampires, warlocks and other supernatural folk stalk the gaslit streets. Only the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the world of demons, keep order amidst the chaos.
Kidnapped by the mysterious Dark Sisters, members of a secret organization called The Pandemonium Club, Tessa soon learns that she herself is a Downworlder with a rare ability: the power to transform, at will, into another person. What's more, the Magister, the shadowy figure who runs the Club, will stop at nothing to claim Tessa's power for his own.
Friendless and hunted, Tessa takes refuge with the Shadowhunters of the London Institute, who swear to find her brother if she will use her power to help them. She soon finds herself fascinated by--and torn between--two best friends: James, whose fragile beauty hides a deadly secret, and blue-eyed Will, whose caustic wit and volatile moods keep everyone in his life at arm's length . . . everyone, that is, but Tessa. As their search draws them deep into the heart of an arcane plot that threatens to destroy the Shadowhunters, Tessa realizes that she may need to choose between saving her brother and helping her new friends save the world. . . . and that love may be the most dangerous magic of all.
Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman (1990)
The world is preparing to come to an end according to the Divine Plan recorded in the Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch (recorded 1655). Meanwhile, a fussy angel and a fast-living demon have grown fond of living among the earth's mortals for many millennia and are not looking forward to the apocalypse. If Crowley and Aziraphale are going to stop it from happening, they must find and kill the Antichrist.
Coraline by Neil Gaiman (2002)
In Coraline's family's new flat there's a locked door. On the other side is a brick wall—until Coraline unlocks the door . . . and finds a passage to another flat in another house just like her own. Only different.
The food is better there. Books have pictures that writhe and crawl and shimmer. And there's another mother and father there who want Coraline to be their little girl. They want to change her and keep her with them. . . . Forever.

"I Want A Love That'll Last Forever" - Saturn in Synastry
When Saturn aspects personal planets in synastry, it creates a bond that's forged in fire in iron. This means that come hell or high water, y'all will always feel a deep unrelenting devotion to one another. It's always feeling a sense of reliability between each other or towards the person it affects more. Of course it takes more than the 'promise' of forever - There's commitment and diligence.
But Saturn aspects make it easier to stay the course for the long haul. Even harsh major aspects or confusing minor ones have a 'sticking' effect. Like, even if this person seems difficult, you still keep coming back to them or vice versa. Imo, this may result in feeling a comfort in the familiarity and security of a relationship opposed to who it's with. Squares and oppositions also suggest there's a fear or anxiety around commitment because of the looming 'what happens next?' that can contribute to someone projecting fears of being trapped or controlled and require their autonomy to be respected somewhere. But they're workable.
However, in my professional and personal experience, issues with Saturn directly point to deeply rooted hangups around how secure you felt around your parents and early childhood environment growing up. It can create a mistrust of those in a place of authority in our lives bc so&so wasn't there, was inconsistent, or we were neglected or in a way that makes us crave yet fear stability and security. It's wanting a stable and loving figure but we don't think we're worthy or ready for that because we either never had it or didn't receive it without it disappointing us. Children are meant to be held and consistently supported but not all of us had that. Sometimes our experiences with our caregivers were traumatizing or influenced us to think 'true stability' means we have to over-extend, over compromise, or hurt ourselves further to receive even a crumb of it. That fear can persist in relationships where nothing's seemingly wrong.
From a sociopolitical point of view, this can be an analogy for how because we exist in a constant state of scarcity, we approach relationships from a scarcity-mindset. They feel transactional, fleeting, and in lieu of Saturn--No one feels as if they quite have enough or are getting what they truly deserve.
Saturn in its exaltation in Libra tells us that true security is rich and abundant with plenty to go around but we have to remember it's not 'too perfect' (Libra) for us to receive consistently and at all. We must believe, like children, that we'll be endlessly provided for by the people we love. And that's a general Saturn lesson. If it's not around us, then we must believe it can be found elsewhere.
Couples still together from Love Island: Will & Lyra - Sun-Saturn, (potentially) a Moon-Saturn, Mercury-Saturn, Venus-Saturn, Saturn-Pluto (mostly hard aspects) Hannah & Marco - Sun-Saturn, Moon-Saturn, Mercury-Saturn, and (potentially) another Moon-Saturn if Hannah's Moon's in late Cap (mostly hard aspects)
Taylor & Bergie - Venus-Saturn, Sun-Saturn, Moon-Saturn, and another Venus-Saturn (honestly? expect babies)
Carmen & Kenzo - Saturn-Saturn, Moon-Saturn, Venus-Saturn (babies w/ these too oh my god)\

The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night. But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway—a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them, this is a game in which only one can be left standing, and the circus is but the stage for a remarkable battle of imagination and will. Despite themselves, however, Celia and Marco tumble headfirst into love—a deep, magical love that makes the lights flicker and the room grow warm whenever they so much as brush hands. True love or not, the game must play out, and the fates of everyone involved, from the cast of extraordinary circus performers to the patrons, hang in the balance, suspended as precariously as the daring acrobats overhead. Written in rich, seductive prose, this spell-casting novel is a feast for the senses and the heart.

Attributed to Marco Liberi, 1640-1725
Leda and the Swan, n/d, oil on canvas, 98x83 cm
Private Collection
For the frayed and grainy pictorial ductus, for the characteristic typology of Leda's face and for the sensualistic pose still of Mannerist ancestry, the painting can be ascribed to the hand of the Venetian painter Marco Liberi, who counts in his corpus numerous works that have as their theme the loves of Jupiter. Specifically, see the comparison with Jupiter and Asteria of the Szépmuveszeti Muzeum in Budapest, or the female figure in Mercury masking Justice. The signature and date placed at the bottom right of the drapery (Coypel 1732) are therefore added later. Bibliography: U. Ruggeri, Pietro and Marco Liberi: painters in seventeenth-century Venice, Stefano Patacconi Editore, 1996. (Invaluable)
