First of all, life happened and happened for good, I couldn't write much before but Now. NOW is the time.

I planned and plotted a lot during the whole year I first came up with the idea and I have a kind of strong base for the AU. I also have a brilliant beta by my side, my dear friend Frog (@faramircaptainofgender), so hopefully during this summer this idea will be shared with you all outside our little friend group.

I'll take this opportunity and shamelessly turn my answer into a main post for the AU.

Human within the Machine

[brief synopsis]

The Nations of the world developed a simulation where future Jaeger pilots can practice for in-action cases. Max Verstappen outshines every other contestants in the history of drifting, there's only one problem - he's no team player.

Charles Leclerc is determined to stop the Kaijus and end their reign, once and for all. He lost his parents due to kaiju attacks, now he feels responsible not only to avenge their deaths, but to bring a brighter future to his brothers.

Jaeger engineering is living its golden age, there is money in it and many enthusiastic contestants who are not entirely aware of the horror that awaits them out at the ocean.

There’s no main plot (as in: I am not planning on detailed world-building neither to save the world from kaijus, I am smaller than that), the endgame is to get Max into an active combat where he drifts with Charles and they’re in the Il Predestinato (the legendary Jaeger that has been out of service for a decade, waiting for the right co-pilots). Everything before and in between are just themes I desire to explore within the possibilities of this AU.

I have a playlist that helps me to stay inspired, songs are not in order yet though, but as I said earlier, chapters are meant to be kind-of standalone scenes, existing in their own moods and settings.

Each chapter will have its own chosen background music linked to them. I also added many symphonic songs just to get in the mood for some combat scenes.

Roles: In the case of HwtM we have active and passive characters in this story. Due to the fact that many scenes are set in drift-memories, where not everything is factual and we are in the mix of memories and feelings, some characters will only appear and speak through these moments. Therefore they fall into the passive category - they are the legends. I will talk about them in their own post but the gist of it is what I wrote above, they cannot speak for themselves so we will only see them through tilted lenses: idolised, villanised, or the mix of both.

Which also means another thing - everyone is an unreliable narrator.

Teams and Jaegers: Since this is the golden age of Jaeger engineering, we will have many-many Jaegers. So far I named only a few, but to stay true to the source material, I'm trying to make them just as cheesy yet compelling as the ones were in the movies. The constructor teams from real life are not so different from what they represent in HwtM, but I altered some of their names to fit more into the world (older names or older sounding names of some teams since the future that Pacific Rim has is basically our present. I was aiming for some retro-vibe).

Here, they are different detachments under the Pan Pacific Defense Corps, in the Jaeger Academy division. I’m planning on working with Merc, Ferrari, McLaren, Williams and of course Redbull.

Mercedes is called Benz

Ferrari is called Alfa Romeo

Red Bull is Toro Rosso

The other two stay under the same name.

Ships to look out for: it is a Lestappen-centered story (if I am really honest with you, it’s Max-centered first of all) but on the side-lines we will look into some depths of Carlando, Galex and Maxiel in…some way. Please-please keep in mind, that these won’t be fully developed romantic relationships in the fic, I’m reporting from the minds and souls of these boys, objectively perceived scenes between them will be rare and much more comrade-like.

The sun shined through your face from the car window. You were seated in the backseat with Pao next to you and your brothers at the back while your parents were at the front. Your father is driving the car, and your mother is in the passenger seat. It was finally the day you dreaded, yet you were excited. Race day in Monza. Your family had to go somewhere, and once you were done with that, you drove back for the race. The ride was a 2-hour drive, which isn't so bad. Well, for your family, 2 hours was like 2 minutes for you. God, were you still so nervous. 

"Dad! Do we seriously have to ride in your Mercedes Benz? I mean, great car, but-" Your sentence wasn't even finished till Pao cut you off. 

"We get it; you have a Ferrari; you prefer that. Nobody cares." He rolls his eyes, slouching while scrolling through his phone. 

"Haha, you're funny; at least the team I support has a car. Unlike Red Bull." You said with a sarcastic tone, cooing at your brother as you stuck your tongue out at him. 

Pao gasps at the statement you said; he scoffs, rolling his eyes as he continues scrolling on his phone. 

"You know I like this car, Dad, it's nice. Isn't it Kuya? (older brother)" Dan smiles from behind as he looks at his two older brothers, James and Mark, who nod, agreeing to the fact that the car was really nice. 

"You guys only say that 'cause you're a Merc fan." You chuckle, looking back at your brothers from behind with a smug look. 

"Yes and no" Mark replies to you, raising his eyebrows as he laughs. 

"Speaking of teams, which garage are you guys going to?" Your dad asks, carefully watching the road. His hands steering the steering wheel from the corners of Monza. 

You say without hesitation and with a little too much excitement, "Carlos!" you chirped, not realizing how much joy was in your voice. You look at them, eyes blinking profusely and mouth wide open from the realization. 

"Obviously." Pao snickers, looking at you with eyes full of amusement. 

"Oh, shut up!" You groan as you hit his arm, nudging him to the side. No matter how much 

you deny it, you'll always be obvious about your crush on him, especially after your encounter with him last night. 

A sharp hiss comes out of Pao's mouth. "Girl, you need to stop hitting me." He stared at you, eyes wide open as he refocuses his attention on his phone. 

"It's a Filipina thing, Pao, don't bother trying to stop it." Your father laughs, oblivious of the repercussions of his actions. Considering the fact that your mother was next to him.

"May sinasabi ka!? (Are you saying something!?)" Your mother says angrily, diverting her attention from fixing her bag to glaring at your father. Eventually, hitting your father's arm. 

Your father, who was still driving, realized what he had just done. His eyes widened, and he slowly turned his head to his left as he smiled nervously at your mother. 

"Oh, mon amour! I was just joking; you know I love you!" A loud, nervous chuckle comes out of your father's voice. Praying to the Gods that the air buzzing and the intense stare of your mother would stop. 

She rolled her eyes, grunting as she hit your father in the arm again. "I love you too." She mumbles, her attention going back to her bag. 

A sigh of relief and content escapes your father's mouth. "Ah, where were we! Oh yes, garages. So Pao? You going to Max or Checo?" Your father's hand was released from the steering wheel since there was a traffic light and the signal was at a stop. Still, his eyes remained focused on the road while waiting for Pao's answer. 

"I'm gonna be at Max's dad's." Pao smiles, his focus still on his phone, weirdly so. 

"You're gonna cry when you see Max." You snicker, teasing him as you savor the wish of him crying, well, in a good way cause you know Max is Pao's idol. 

"What about you boys?" Your father turns around to look at your older brothers at the back

"I'm going with you to Lewis, Dad," Mark says as he smiles. 

"Dan and I are going to Valterri's dad," James says as he and Dan continue the game they are playing.

"Alright, alright, but what about you, chérie?" Your father turns his attention back to the road as the traffic light signal goes from stop to go. He glances at your mother with a soft gaze as he asks her. 

"I'll be with Mclaren; maybe they'll win." A seemingly loud scoff and chuckle come out from Pao and your older brother's mouths. 

"What? They may win, you never know." Your mother grins. 

"Ma, can you put this in your bag? I'm changing when we get there." You lean in closer to your mom as you hand her the clothes you'll be wearing once you arrive there. It was just a simple white crop top and a red skirt to emphasize you being a Ferrari fan.

Your mother smiles as she takes it from your hand and puts it in her bag. Her handbag was so spacious, you were sure you could even fit your shoes there. Moments later, your phone rings; Someone is calling you. Valerie Laurice a.k.a Val. Your best friend from the Philippines. 

"Val's calling." You say to your family as you answer her Facetime call.

You answer the call with a big smile as you see your best friend, Val. "Hey! What's up? How have you been?" You smile at her through FaceTime as you notice her bright mood. 

"I'm great, Y/N; you look nice. Excited for your first race?" She chuckles, sitting down on a chair and standing with her phone on a cup.

"Of course! What made you call?" You look at her curiously with one eyebrow raised and with a bright smile. "I missed you."

"I missed you too, and I called because I'm getting married." She smiles at you, waiting for your reaction

Your eyes widened, mouth wide open. Your family stared at you and Val in shock, except for your father, of course, since he's driving, but you knew he was shocked. 

"WHAT? WHEN? WHERE?" You were almost stuttering, extremely shocked, but you were happy for her. 

"Well, you know Karina, my girlfriend. We're getting married." She giggles at your shocked but cute reaction 

"OH MY GOD VAL!" You say, almost out of breath, but you were smiling so damn happily. Your family congratulated Val as well. 

"That is the greatest news I've heard. I'm so happy for you two. Who proposed??" You smiled happily; you were so happy for her. After all these years, she finally found her true love. 

"I did, and she was so happy, Y/N. Thank you. The wedding's in a month, by the way." She laughs softly. 

"Oh, that is so sweet-" Before you could finish, you heard the word "month," and your eyes widened, mouth wide open once again. 

"Well, I'll definitely come. We'll all be there." You smile happily, still in quite a shock that the wedding is in a month. 

"Great, bring a date." She laughs softly. "I gotta go, love you bye! Have fun." She smiles, ending the call. 

You were left baffled, but you chuckled, still so happy for her. 

2 hours later

You and your family finally arrived at the paddock. You snapped a quick picture and posted it on your Instagram story.

Once you posted your story, you headed to the bathroom to change to your white crop top and the red skirt. You and your family headed to the garage area, where your father was soon interviewed since “The Jean Dela Cruz” was here. You decide to avoid contact and head to Carlos’ garage; you were warmly welcomed as they handed you the Ferrari headphones. Meanwhile, the rest of your family was still in the garage area. 

Drivers came in and greeted your father and your family. Max and Lewis first approached your family as they shook their hands at your father. Pao was in awe when he saw Max. He couldn’t help but tear up a little. 

Your father notices Pao tearing up as he chuckles, introducing Pao to Max. 

“He’s a big fan of you; he’s a Red Bull fan.” Your father laughs softly. 

“It’s nice to meet you, mate.” Max chuckles as he hugs Pao, patting his back. 

After your family met some of the drivers, they all went to their respective garages. You watch through the TVs in Carlos’ garage, and the race finally starts.

Your eyes stayed focused throughout the race, and your mouth widened a little as you saw Daniel Ricciardo take the lead. You thought to yourself, maybe your mother was right. A few moments in, you could hear the crowd roaring as Antonio Giovanizzi spins around as he loses his front wing. 

The next few laps were chill till lap 26. Your mouth turned to a smile as you saw Charles Leclerc lead up and head to P1. Even if you knew for yourself that it was only temporary, you still found joy in it. 

Your eyes widened, your mouth completely open as you scoffed quite loudly. The crown roars even more than before as Max Verstappen crashes with Lewis Hamilton. You hurriedly open your phone as you text the family group chat.

You couldn’t help but giggle at the texts in your family group chat. God, how thankful you were that you were a Ferrari fan. You close your phone as the race continues. Lap 31, smiling happily, watching the race as you see Carlos move up a place and Charles in p2. 

Lap 32, you scoff, seeing Checo overtake Makes. Your phone rings as you see a text from Pao in your group chat.

After the race, you and your family gather to watch the podium ceremony as you head back to the garage area to meet the other drivers. All the drivers were around, talking to your brothers and your father. Your father congratulated Daniel and Valterri on a wonderful race. 

“Great race, guys; you should come over to our house. A party, you could say, but maybe a chill one. How about this Saturday?” Your father smiles as all the drivers agree. 

Your eyes widened as you heard about the drivers coming over, shit. You thought to yourself, Carlos was coming over. Soon, the drivers said goodbye as they went their ways, and you noticed Carlos walking up to you as he smiled cheekily. 

“I’ll see you, Hermosa,” he winks at you as he walks away, catching up to Lando and Charles. You smile, blushing as you can’t wait to see him.

I'm a Mercedes defender but you CANNOT say that at ONE POINT in George's career, they can be manipulative af.

Two things can be TRUE, AT THE SAME FUCKING TIME:

1. Mercedes helps and choose George, George loves and choose Mercedes

2. At some point of his career, there were manipulative acts performed by Mercedes.

Let's talk from the beginning

I don't think i need to tell the story about George's powerpoint presentation saga anymore because all of us know it. But shortly,

His manager got a hold of Toto's email > George sent his CV > Toto saw em and invited George > George came ALONE to Toto's office and there were other higher ups > presentation > Toto mesmerized because of how George is very brave to go inside his office and present his "why you should pick me" CV alone without parents/manager > Toto want him in the junior team but can only offer an ass team > George refused for an English team (Carlin Volkswagen) > Toto say "i told you you're wrong but let's keep on contact"

Then George blew his expectations. Did a pretty good season in F3 EU first year. But he got into a financial problem which he later resorted to testing for BMW in DTM as he looked for plan B. He cooked their. First on the record, allegedly beat Audi and Mercedes too. BMW liked George so much that they threw him a $$$,$$$ contract directly. But the testing saga was leaked by an ex-BMW employee who moved to Mercedes and Mercedes came back to George.

Okay, if you're saying "oh awreeee, but george chose mercedes" oh amandaaa, for the second time, it was mercedes who approached george.

Although George in the end DID choose Mercedes, you can't look at this statement and tell me "oh my word! this is so pressure-less! i bet they're having tea over this talk!" 🥰🥰🥰 "Oh but Ari this is normal-" you're talking to me here as someone who will NEVER be in the position of money-less and your dream in the verge of getting over.

The keyword here is "It was absolutely clear from Mercedes-Benz". You are EIGHTEEN or SEVENTEEN with a career most possibly focused on racing. And a powerhouse company said "there won't be an option with Mercedes Benz in the future (if you pick BMW)". And if you look at it, you don't need to be a Law Student or a Comms Student to know that the deal they're offering to George is so fucking ass. Do ALL the sims for Merc, they test you on and off the track. All that and they say "oh but we won't be so sure tee hee~ we'll get back to you in October 🩵🩵🩵". All that while not letting him keep the BMW contract. George did choose Mercedes, but you can't tell me that there is no pressure (or minor gaslighting) at all from a big company who had ventures in GT/DTM/F1 to a 17/18 y.o who had financial problems and is desperate to continue his career.

Second. During this "test" period for George's second year at F3 EU. They also did not allow him to continue with Carlin despite George wanting to because Carlin is supported by Volkswagen. He had to opt for Hitech, a completely new team (rumored to get that discounted price seat in exchange for driver coaching his teammate Mazepin, whose father sponsors Hitech)

You can have a different opinion about this and you might say "eh but that makes sense, it's job obligation" but for me "why let go of Carlin VW when they don't even guarantee anything about George's seat in the junior team"

Other saga of this "shady ass slightly manipulative shit" Merc did? Whatever that Red Bull saga is

The fact that they said this while also thinking about someone else in that Merc seat in 2022 LOL 💀💀💀 Even when George was almost out of his seat in 2020, they'd rather send George to GT or DTM than let him go to Red Bull or other team. In 2020, he was linked to a Ferrari or McLaren seat. You can say "why would you want him-" and I'll say that you only say this because you're in the future now and you know George is in Mercedes. But if you were BACK THEN and he's on the verge of getting his seat grabbed by someone else and his team snoozed around just because they won't let him go, you'd want to bite their neck off too.

But yeah as I said earlier, this is my opinion and some of the red flags I see. You can't 100% glorify Mercedes for helping George. I'm very thankful they helped George throughout his career. George is in his place now partly because of Mercedes. But let's not act like Merc is a divine angel for helping someone out. They did some red flags too. George chooses them, YES. But let's not act like there is absolutely no pressure at all to a minor at that time.

Ngl im a little nervous over what is going on in the money side of Mercedes since Ineos brought Man U… it seems they want less money in F1, and that doesn’t bode well even with the cost cap. I don’t want the team to fold whilst George is there

Sorry but we all remember Mercedes Benz is like one of the biggest multinational companies on this planet right? They don't actually need ineos to fund shit.

Without Lewis, they've gotten rid of, for the lack of a better word, $50mil in expenses

Now obviously INEOS contributes a whole lot of money into the team but unless PETRONAS leaves and Merc has no title sponsor I wouldn't be worrying about Radcliffe and whatever he's doing with his AI stadiums.

The team isn't folding unless Mercedes Benz decides they want to pull out of F1. Money isn't actually an issue there.
