it's been a long time since i posted any kind of story excerpt here, so have one for Mestas's merc AU.

Sniping isn't her specialty. Not even close. When she's out in the field she prefers to be in close quarters, blades and limbs flying in that intricate dance between two people who know their survival depends on getting the upper hand. The adrenaline rush of it, sweat trickling down her back as she dodges and drives her blade home, chest heaving as her opponent crumples and she stands triumphant-- that's what she's here for, this is what she craves, and laying prone at the top of some hill or building with her eye to a scope just doesn't scratch that itch.

More importantly, it's boring.

But wouldn't luck have it that not being up on some sniper's perch is leaving her open to the bastard taking shots at her right now. He's been messing with her since she got here and for the time being she has no way to get him back for it. Snipers have the advantage at a distance but are usually piss-poor at CQC. Unfortunately, being good at it ain't doing her any favors right now.

So she makes a mental note to gut the cheeky little bastard when she's done clearing this place out. She'll be plenty hungry by then and will welcome the fresh blood.

When a bullet whizzes past her ear and digs out a chunk of the concrete behind her she bares her fangs in agitation. Yeah. Definitely gonna eat him.

It's not that she doesn't like the challenge-- she does, when there's actually a challenge to be had. But since she set foot on this property this guy's taken six shots at her. Any sniper worth their salt wouldn't miss that many times, especially since two of 'em were when she was out in the open. And they especially wouldn't take out two of their own guys in the process. So either her target hired someone completely incompetent to keep their watch-- which she won't rule out just yet-- or this is another merc. And he's deliberately fucking with her.

She doesn't like being toyed with. She's the one who plays the mind games, keeps people guessing, gets them riled up for her own amusement when she's bored. She's not supposed to be on the receiving end of this bullshit.

When this is all over she's gonna make this fucker regret it.

That rage fuels her fighting and she makes short work of the remaining perimeter guards. Then she looks around. All the shots have come from the same direction, and none came when she was behind the complex itself. So the annoying bastard hasn't been moving around to follow her.

Staring off into the hills around the base, she bares her fangs in a feral grin and flips off one in particular.

There's no response. She doesn't expect one.

She heads inside anyway.

The contract was pretty clear: no one gets out alive. Not in a "leave no witnesses" kind of way, but a full-on slaughter. That's fine. She can do that even if she would have preferred something a little quieter. More delicate, maybe. Those are the more challenging hunts and that makes them more fun than indiscriminate killing.

Doesn't matter. Without the fucker with the rifle bothering her she makes short work of the interior guards, a handful of scientists, and the CEO that signs their checks. That last one is fun. It takes a lot more strength to snap a neck than movies would have you believe, but it's not too much effort for a vampire. It's less of a cracking sound, too. More of a crunch, bones grinding on each other in ways they're not meant to.

Well, that wraps that up. She'll do one last sweep of the halls and rooms to make sure, maybe poke around for any unlikely hiding spots, but if anyone in the building was still alive she would have sensed them by now. It's a rare person who can shield their mind from a telepath-- rarer still the one who can mask their life force from a psyvamp. The physical check is just a formality.

And then she can deal with that pesky little sniper.

As luck would have it, he's gone. Not brave enough to deal with her face to face, she'd guess. Damn. She hates the ones who don't have the guts to deal with the consequences of their actions. Worse than that, now she has to go hungry because the little fucker had the sense to clear out before she hauled her ass up to this perch. She likes her meals hot from the vein, not cooling in a body whose heart can't even pump blood anymore in the first place.

Frustrated more than before, she looks around, wrinkling her nose at the smell of exposed brain matter. Whoever was supposed to be manning this perch never had the chance to get a warning out before the annoying bastard put a bullet in her skull. He's professional in that at least.

Another glance at the body and she frowns, moving closer. In the hand, something white. Paper, it looks like. Folded, not crumpled, and the longer she stares at it the more it looks like it was placed there after the poor bitch got a one-way ticket to the next world.

No reason not to take it. It's not like the dead girl will be able to stop her. She certainly couldn't stop her killer from leaving it.

Taking off her left glove, she unfolds the paper. It's only a scrap, torn from the corner of a journal or something. But scrawled across it are three words.

You're getting slow.

It's messy, and maybe even illegible to most people, but she knows that handwriting. This isn't the first time he's left her a note like this. The last time was in that hotel room when he left her handcuffed to the bed and skipped town before she could do the same to him.

She grins, the tips of her fangs poking out over her lower lip. So that's how he wants to play.

So be it, boyo. She's always in the mood for a hunt, and once she catches him, she'll pay him back for playing with her.

Whether she sucks his blood or something else depends on whether or not he decides to play nice when she catches him.

Fenton? You mean Phantom?

Everyone that was anyone, knew to not go near Jack Fenton. Even after he walked away from the underbelly of the darker side of humanity. He was someone that always got the job done without question. From the most would be considered a suicidal mission, he would return the following day without much of a scratch or laughing over how easy it was.

Many assumed he was a meta, non-human or something! Anything to explain Jack Fenton himself.

Nothing.

So when he walked away, many felt more at ease with this. Now there were more jobs on the docket for themselves. Albeit, the death rate has risen.

For Jack, that's all in the past. His college is paid off, that wedding he promised for Maddie was done to her liking. A tour around the country visiting the most haunted places. Finally, buying off a home in the most hunted place they could find, Amity Park! Whatever was left, went into their research!

Perfection.

It was perfect....

"Ah, Bruce Wayne... Yes, I know that's you behind the mask. What do you want?"

"We need Phantom."

"...Myself or my son?"

"Both."

To summarize: he got hired as Mann. Co's grunt / errand boy alongside Miss Pauling, and he usually just follows her around helping her out with her tasks and stuff. He got hired when he randomly bumped into Miss Pauling at some drug cartel they both happened to be at, and somehow they manged to run away AND bust the cartel together on the same day.

He sometimes have to go talk with the mercs himself instead of Miss Pauling when she's busy, and over time he gets inadvertently sucked into the found family. He can never escape now, he just has to accept his fate.

Since he's technically the youngest out of them all, I think the mercs like to tease him a lot about his age (especially Scout. He is overjoyed he isn't the youngest in the team anymore). They drag him into a lot of their shenanigans, and for once he has to act Iike the straight man in the group because everyone around him is absolutely batshit insane.

The air at the track is buzzing with excitement as you and Lewis arrive together, stepping out of the sleek black Mercedes. Cameras flash, and fans cheer loudly when they spot you both. Dressed in a perfectly tailored outfit that screams elegance and confidence, you’re every bit the superstar they expect to see. As you walk hand-in-hand with Lewis, fans call out for photos.

“Y/N, can we get a picture?” a young fan asks shyly, holding out her phone.

You stop and kneel slightly to her height, flashing her a warm smile. “Of course, sweetheart. What’s your name?”

“Lila,” she says, blushing as you take the selfie with her.

“Beautiful name, Lila. Thanks for saying hi,” you tell her. Then another fan approaches, this time gushing, “I just saw your new movie last week, and I loved it so much! You were incredible.”

You laugh softly, reaching out to lightly touch their arm. “Thank you so much! You’ve just made my day. And I have to say, your outfit is killing it. Love the style!”

The fan grins, and you both exchange a quick selfie before you turn back to Lewis, who’s watching the interaction with an affectionate smile. “You know, if I didn’t have you to myself, I think the fans would keep you here all day,” he teases, wrapping an arm around your waist as the two of you walk toward the paddock.

“Can you blame them?” you joke, giving him a playful nudge. “Besides, it’s nice to feel the love.”

Later, you’re lounging in Lewis’s motorhome, flipping through your phone as he stretches out beside you, sipping a smoothie. It’s a rare moment of calm before the chaos of the race weekend. “So, how are you feeling about today?” you ask him, resting your head on his shoulder.

“Confident,” he replies, placing his hand over yours. “But having you here makes it ten times better. You’re like my lucky charm.”

You smile, about to respond, when your phone suddenly starts buzzing nonstop. Confused, you glance at the notifications piling in. Moments later, Lewis’s phone starts ringing too. “What the hell is going on?” you mutter, opening Twitter as Lewis answers the call.

Your jaw tightens as you scroll through a clip of Christian Horner’s latest press conference, where a reporter asked about you and Lewis’s presence at the track after a tough qualifying session.

“Well, actually, no,” Horner had said with a smirk. “If anything, it’s distracting. She walks around like she owns the place, and frankly, I don’t think her presence does much for the sport. I mean, she’s supposed to be a model, but I’ve never even seen her on a runway. Maybe if she focused on her job, she’d be less of a distraction for everyone else.”

You stare at the screen in disbelief as Lewis ends his call, already fuming. “That fucking prick,” he growls, pacing the room. “Who the hell does he think he is, talking about you like that?”

You laugh dryly, shrugging it off. “Please, that’s embarrassing for him. I don’t even think about him, let alone mention his name. It’s giving desperate, isn’t it?”

Lewis pauses, his face softening as he looks at you. “Still, love, he had no right to say that. You’re ten times the star he’ll ever be.”

You kiss his cheek, trying to lighten the mood. “Baby, don’t let it ruin your focus. He’s not worth it.”

He nods, but his jaw remains tight. “I’m going to get ready for FP1 and FP2. I’ll deal with this later,” he says, heading off to change into his race gear.

During Free Practice 1 and 2, the topic of Christian’s comments dominates the paddock. Reporters approach drivers for their thoughts.

George, ever the diplomat, shakes his head. “I think Christian’s got it all wrong. Y/N is an incredible presence here. She’s a huge inspiration and brings more attention to the sport, not less.”

Lando laughs when asked. “Are you kidding? Y/N’s literally an icon. If anything, she makes the paddock cooler just by being here. Christian’s just jealous he doesn’t have her supporting his team.”

Charles adds his perspective, speaking with quiet conviction. “I don’t agree with Christian at all. I’ve seen Y/N on the runway—she’s a star in every sense of the word. And she and Lewis together? That’s something special. They bring so much positivity.”

Carlos chuckles. “Come on, have you seen Y/N? Everyone loves her. Christian’s comments are just... I don’t know, misplaced. She’s amazing.”

But it’s Yuki who surprises everyone with his bluntness. “Christian said that? That’s ridiculous. Y/N brings more fans to F1 than he does. Maybe he should focus on his own team instead of insulting people.”

Finally, Lewis takes his turn with the press. When asked about Christian’s remarks, his expression hardens. “That’s a ridiculous take,” he says firmly. “Y/N is one of the most successful people in the world. She’s not just a model or an actress—she’s an icon. And maybe the reason Christian hasn’t seen her on a runway is that he can’t afford a seat or doesn’t get invited to those kinds of events.”

The reporters laugh nervously as Lewis finishes, walking off without another word.

As you and Lewis prepare to leave the paddock, reporters swarm you. One steps forward, asking directly, “Y/N, do you have any response to Christian Horner’s comments?”

You pause, glancing at Lewis, who gives you a reassuring nod. Turning back to the cameras, you smile sweetly before delivering your response.

“Well, first of all, I want to thank everyone who defended me today. You’ve all been amazing—especially Lewis.” You squeeze his hand before continuing, your tone sharp now. “As for Christian… let’s be honest, his comments say a lot more about him than they do about me. It’s embarrassing, really. I don’t think about him, I don’t talk about him, and I certainly don’t care about his opinions.”

You pause for dramatic effect, tilting your head. “Maybe instead of worrying about me, Christian should focus on those sexual assault allegations against him. Seems like a better use of his time, don’t you think?”

The crowd goes silent, stunned by your boldness. A few reporters gape openly, while others scramble to jot down your words. Beside you, Lewis mutters, “Oh, shit,” before bursting into laughter.

You smile, turning to walk away but not before adding one final line. “I’ll be waiting for my apology, Christian. Much love, everyone. Have a great day!”

As you stride off, Lewis catches up to you, still laughing. “That was hot of you, love,” he says, pulling you close. “Remind me never to get on your bad side.”

You smirk, leaning into him. “Don’t worry, baby. You’re my favorite.”

He kisses your temple as the two of you leave the paddock, hand in hand, ready to let the world talk.

Welder helped install the sniper eye into Headbuster's eyesocket. It acts as a scope so he doesn't need to use the ones on sniper rifles

Wildfire was a former firefighter who combatted wild forest fires with new fires (a method called backburning)

Danny wasn’t sure when he started hiding in the aquarium as Phantom, but it happened. Hey knew he had a bad habit of checking that the bubblers and air filters for the animals were working.

The sharks… spooked him at first. Mostly the big ones. The rays are sea pancakes he coos at. But the big sharks? The ones that look like sharks send something in the back of his mind off.

The day he was flung into a tank as Phantom he froze.

This annoyingly strong ecto-octopus showed up and kept going after him as Fenton and Phantom. And responded to Taco, Tapa, and Toby. So name probably stars with a T and its intent on keeping him.

At least Skulker stays in the thermos.

Valerie was handling it her way, and he hated that it calmed him down.

Danny just. Wanted a break from it.

And now the stupid sharks were swimming to him and. And.

He blacked out a bit.

He was tiny.

The shark was huge.

The sharks were around him and… brushed against him for the most part.

He was pushed to tiny cave by one’s fin and just… stayed there.

Evil Taco can’t hurt him here.

Danny wiggled at that. He was tiny. And his tail was… different? He blinked slowly at it. The pattern reminded him of drum fish and scorpion, but looked more like a koi fish with the fancy fins and shape.

He managed to look at his hands and oh. He has black scales there too. And some flecks of green. A bit(?) of his sides had a slip of white and then it was just his skin.

He. He needs a nap.

Danny passes out in the little cave the sharks gave him.

More of my TF2 × Gravity Falls crossover because the idea of Stan interacting with the mercs and slowly being accepted into their found family has been EATING away at my brain!!

Rambles:

- I already said this but Stanley's basically hired as the grunt/muscle for Miss Pauling. He helps her out with her missions sometimes and the clean-up that comes after, or just delivers supplies and packages to the mercs :]

- I accidentally made him look a lot older than 19 in my drawings, so he's kinda in the same category as Sniper in the "looks-way-older-than-his-actual-age" department.

- Scout is so happy he's no longer the youngest in the team, and since the nickname "little man" is already taken, Heavy just calls Stanley "child", and Scout teases him about it RELENTLESSLY.

- Stanley has to work with both the RED and BLU team, and is forced to listen to ALL cross-factional the drama, because both teams have somehow dragged him into being their unofficial therapist without his prior knowledge.
