That last one deserves to be seen in all of its beauty, actually. This poem has lived rent-free in my head since I first read it.

The face concludes its reason behind the simple mask - the gratuitive countenance, the satisfaction. The mind precedes the illusion with thought; and these are they who have nothing.

These are they who have undertaken to bring something for nothing, and still receive and prosper. These are they who have come to listen, to replenish the void, congested eyes of onlookers. Where have they the energy it takes? This face, mightier than the crowds, is one.

They have fallen and they have risen. They extend to see in their hour simple refreshing smiles. They keep their honor, our childhood, locked in the justice of their face. And if, with expectance and demonstration, they exceed, we will conclude they are masters of our trust. We are spellbound onlookers watching the antics - the substance in the face, in the eyes.

Their eminent face brings us its reality. With reason and potential they exchange our trust with a recommendation. This rare breed of clown is aging, its face is its life.

I will assume that folks don't hibernate anyplace where it doesn't get sufficiently cold and there's decent food access year round. Places where they do hibernate no one is doing any kind of business with them during winter. A lot of time in later summer and fall is for bulking up. So any kind of meetings should have meals being served.

Long-lived folks: How are you short-lived and you sleep for months at a time?

Baby Marcille with her dad being her primary playmate but he sleeps for a very long time for parts of the year (her family is from the Northern continent which gets cold, cold enough that parts are just iced over year round) plus he's getting older. Towards the end of his life not really being able to eat much, gets skinny, doesn't hibernate anymore but that clearly bad for him

I can imagine non-tallmen being hired to watch over folks who are hibernating.

Thistle keeping a near-solitary watch over the folks of the Golden Kingdom during hibernation That would fucking do a number. Already a teen elf tasked with too much responsibility being the court magician but also watching over the people alone when they're most vulnerable knowing that some of them simply won't make it and die during hibernation if they weren't able to put on enough weight. All those bad harvests and invading armies making not enough to go around and folks going into hibernation leaner than they should. Thistle can wake the ones he notices getting too thin but there's still only so many resources available.

i would assume that clothes and armor for tallmen would be made to be easily adjusted if folks gain weight easier and also lose it just as well

ID: Two beautiful young cats mill about on the floor, orbiting an empty bowl.

"Are you hungry?" asks a human.

Two piteous lamentations rend the air. Jasper, white with dark points, has huge round eyes that look like they have beheld the end of time, where no food exists.

"Jasper?!"

He emits a long howl, his mouth wide, showing little white teeth.

"Whoa! So you're hungry."

He cries again. The other, Junie, a little white cat with gray points, puts her perfect face in front of the camera and emits a sad, soft, weird little sound, like a very very small sheep that is some distance away, or perhaps some sort of strange radio transmisson. She looks worried.

Jasper cries some more.

"Really? Jaspercat?"

Junie meows but it is lost when Jasper rears and shoves his face in the camera and YOWLS, the screen for just a moment totally consumed by his little yelling mouth.

The human gives him a piece of kibble as a treat.

"Good boy." /End

Dungeon Meshi au where tallmen have the biology of humans from Early Riser by Jasper Fforde instead of being like irl humans.

i.e. They hibernate during winter exactly like bears. And grow winter coats making them fluffy with all sorts of coat patterns.

Picture if you will, all yer tallman faves being fluffy b/c the meat of the plot is set in March so they still haven't lost their winter coats/probably shedding.

And Laios, Izutsumi, and Kabru trying not to fall asleep for too long on lvl 6 b/c its cold and their body is going 'time to hibernate'
