guys stop adding to this you keep changing my ships lmao
It’s really silly but I’m more likely to ship a first gen couple from Awakening if it results in a mildly interesting difference in the father/child convo
like Virion being particularly appalled that Inigo is even more of a relentless flirt than he is, or Gaius offering Noire a candy wrapper to blow her nose into, or Lon’qu calling Yarne’s accusations of cheating absurd because Panne is the only woman he can tolerate, or Vaike being salty that Chrom and Lucina love each other while Gerome wants nothing to do with him, etc.

Welcome back! <3 What's your opinion on the second generation of Shepards? There are definitely some that could use some more development imo
Thanks for the welcome back!
(Sorry for the long post, I just kept writing and writing lol)
I agree with the sentiment to a certain extent. The second generation I feel are as well written as they could be (especially since time travel is a story tool I'm not fond of), but definitely benefitted from Future Past. Even though the Future Past kids aren't the same exact characters we have, they act as a 'what if' version so I count the development as one and the same.
However, to be a bit specific, one thing about them stood out, and it's indicative of a peculiar, unfortunate aspect of FE13's cast as a whole.
The boys are written with more taste, consistency, and sensitivity than the girls. Though outliers exist (like Lucina and Severa), the second gen girls are kind of cheap? They get more "humorous" supports (i put humorous in quotes cuz I don't find a lot of the jokes funny), and are treated less seriously as a whole.
Cynthia is like a sidekick or guinea pig more than an actual participant in the conversation sometimes (which I guess is funny in an ironic sort of way); Kjelle's supports are really vapid, offering nothing that her mom didn't, and delivered with a less entertaining speech pattern, and there's only a few things worse than being boring to me; Nah... is honestly kind of a mess, teetering between playing the mature straight man, and being the most childish and annoying creature ever (e.g. I hate a lot of Nowi's supports, but Nah's support with Laurent is singularly worse than all of them and is a contender for the worst one in the game); and F!Morgan, while her actions and dialogue are supposed to be cute, I find them to be kind of boundary pushing, alarming, or even downright mean sometimes.
Again, Lucina (some of the best supports in the game period, being varied, having great dialogue) and Severa (her self esteem issues recontextualize every support chain in an artful matter) avoid this, as does Noire for the most part (she's written pretty sincerely as comedic or melancholy when she needs to be), but the four ladies I mentioned beforehand can just be... bleh. Being honest, were it not for Future Past, Cynthia, Nah, and F!Morgan would've been several marks lower. Their peaks are lower than what Inigo, Yarne, Laurent, and Brady provide, and Owain's comedy lands a lot better than theirs as well.
Though, like I said earlier, this is indicative of a larger problem I have with Awakening's writing. Since the game was written with the prospect of being the last, the popular Japanese entertainment tropes were all thrown into the mix, and they tend to be at the expense of the women. Sumia's clumisness, Sully's experience with sexism being kind of surface level (i.e. not something that feels connected to the world of the game), Tharja being Yandere 101, Nowi in general, etc. A third of them comment on being a mess in the kitchen, they blush due to crass comments or outright weirdo requests 3x more often than the men, a good chunk of them are written to get pissed at a drop of a hat, and so on.
Hell, lots of the women in my 'Favorite' or 'Love' tiers on my list, also have 1 or 2 utterly terrible supports that really exemplify this. Lucina's support with F!Robin (when they're not parent and child) is godawful; Maribelle suffers when her subtle desire to be loved or charmed is brought to the forefront (e.g. her support with Virion is like Gray/Clair if Gray was also a noble, and her support with Gregor is very tepid and flavorless when she's usually very entertaining); Cherche and Olivia suffer when they have zero chemistry with their conversation partner; Cordelia suffers when she plays straight into the 'superior perfectionist' bit (Frederick, Donnel), using her conversation partner as a way to vent about Chrom (Frederick again, Henry, Gregor), and outright becomes a nagging mom/wife who cleans up her man with Gaius; and Panne suffers when the writers decide to ignore how her race was enslaved and hunted to near extinction in favor of other characters (often men) getting to play with her ears, cuddling with her fur, or calling her cute when she doesn't want them to.
Most damningly, F!Robin is several marks lower than her male counterpart despite being the same character in-story, because a good deal of her unique supports write her badly (Chrom, Lucina, Aversa, Yarne) or barely at all (Brady, Anna, Owain). Even supports that got a laugh out of me-which is a big accomplishment-like with Lon'qu, still aren't stellar cuz they play on her being almost a caricature; like she's "Robin but a woman (derogatory)" instead of just... a version of Robin.

So we won’t fully address how long ago I was tagged in this, but shout out to @friendofbats.
The Rules: Tag (9) people you want to know better and/or catch up with, then answer the following:
Four Ships
So I try to be balanced in all things but, most of my ships, I’m either all in or all out once they don’t happen, lol. I cannot say I have a Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons ride or die ship, unfortunately (the farmer and my wifey, Popuri). But bring back rival marriage, damn it.
It’ll be tough to dwindle it to four, honestly, I have a lot of genres I enjoy.
Zelda/Link (Legend of Zelda): Yea, I know, BASIC, but man--the fact that their destinies bring them together through even like ancestry. That type of gig is my jam.
Takeru “T.K”/Hikari “Kari” (Digimon): This one...this is the ‘you just had to be there’ era. The wars between Dakari and Takari fans were the things of legend. People had WHOLE SITES dedicated to this and would list the reasons why one coupling worked and why the other wouldn’t--it’s epically crazy to even think about. Alas, Takari...before I got deeply involved in my long-ass Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons, I was writing a series for them that kind of shaped how I wrote for Legacy. I don’t instantly go for the ‘old friends’ relationships but I loved them together and, while I thought I got ‘meh’, I was excited to see all the small hints in what I did watch of Tri.
Tommy/Kimberly (Power Rangers): It’s so silly to even talk about but it’s so funny since I can’t deny this is my first ship--imagine it’s 1994, I’m four-years-old, in kindergarten, with no grasp on anything remotely...and these two were my ride or die.  I was six and PISSED they replaced Kimberly with Kat. I’ll even roll my eyes now that they suggest those two married and have kids. RIP Jason David Frank.
Jay Halstead/Erin Lindsay (Chicago PD): See the trend? None of my ships work out! But this is probably the only modern one i have, lol. These two though, I just loved how they worked together and had each other’s back. I think it’s super tragic how both of their story lines ended given how strong their histories were but that’s how live-actions have to go, I reckon.
Look, I’m too indecisive to not have honorable mentions. Chrom x Robin, Stahl x Panne, Kellam x Olivia, Lissa x Lon’qu, Frederick x Nowi, Tharja x Libra, Lucina x Gerome (Fire Emblem Awakening, meaning the marriages I would struggle to deviate from), Dimitri x Byleth (Fire Emblem Three Houses), Yor x Loid (Spy x Family), Ichigo x Rukia (Screw you, BLEACH)
Last Song: Lol, oh, “Bodies” by Drowning Pool. I was just listening to a 2000s metal playlist on Spotify, that’s where I left off.
Currently Reading: I need to get better at reading...anything. I write and edit my writing by reading it?
Last Movie: Guardians of the Galaxy, Volume 3. Bittersweet but definitely good compared to where the MCU is now.
Craving: Hu Tieu Tom Thit (Pork and Shrimp Clear Noodle Soup) and a Sea Angel Roll would be awesome!
Tagging: My infinite anxiety over the strangest of things will keep me from tagging, lol. But please tag me if you do this, I love reading these.

which ship fans are the most annoying?
it has to be chrobins just for the combination oversaturation + victim complex. any group which takes on the attitude that their opponents are both impossibly strong (intsys forced sumia down peoples throats as chrom's canon wife bc they either hate strong women or are homophobic, your pick) and absurdly weak (every reference to chrom and robin knowing each other or being friends is a secret nod to the fact that its Actually Their Canon Relationship) is just kind of unpleasant to be around. however the frobin chrobins and the mrobin chrobins are at constant war with each other and its the funniest thing in the world. davide they hate each other so much. they cannot just be happy with what they have while ive been over here in the f/f trenches trying to get people to care about sully/sumia for nine years
what character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because how how the fandom acts about them?
i have to limit my exposure to fandom gerome and fandom inigo or i will go "chimp mode" and scare my neighbours. it sucks. both of these characters fanon selves are lifted straight from the pages of the BL you read when you were 14 that you vaguely remember as being ok and then revisit as an adult and think "wait i was just 14 , i didnt know i could have problems with this". gerome and inigo fans are doing a gravitation upon them except without any self-awareness or sense of humour or even passing references to fea itself
common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about
my dislike for the argument that olivia is chroms best wife is pretty well documented atp but i want to shout out to the awakening-specific way that people will accuse each other of deliberately overhyping units due to them being their waifus. when anyone mentions sumia's bases (good) growths (excellent) and class potential (literally everything she could possibly want) in unit discussions there will be a pile on in the comments about how shes so overrated and overhyped. firstly i dont know if she can be when there are this many detractors secondly i dont know how much i trust the opinion of someone who played hard mode once over someone who plays no grind luna+ for fun THIRDLY these same people will argue to death that actually tharja is amazing and the best unit in the game. tharja on recruitment has 5 skill and 3 luck. i think shes absolutely fine but its so disingenous to say shes incredible when she has no hit
i also think cordelias base str and def trick people into thinking shes a straight upgrade on sumia when thats not how awakening works and wont actually help her long term. its amazing that cordelia is the first ever fe unit with 60% spd growth who can still get speed screwed!

Alright, time to start off with the royal family!
Chrom gets two wives because why not. He's married to both Sully and Cordelia. Lucina is their eldest daughter, while Kjelle and Severa are the younger twins. I know they have different birthdays but oh well.
Lissa and Maribelle are married, and they have Brady and Owain. They have agreed not to mention their surrogate father.
Moving on to the rest, Gaius married Sumia, and they had Cynthia. They're a very close-knit family unit who like to host their own little baking competitions sometimes, and their friends get to sample the results. Nobody ever really wins these 'bake-offs' though.
Henry and Olivia are married, and they have Inigo. There have been jokes about Inigo being akin to a Disney princess because he just... attracts wild animals.
Lon'qu and Panne married, and they had Yarne. While still learning about taguel culture alongside her son, Panne is also wanting to have more children, to help revive the taguel bloodline.
Gregor and Nowi married, and they had Nah. They're all kind of struggling to bond as a family due to what Nah has told them about her future, but her parents are determined to make up for that.
Libra and Tharja married, and together they had Noire. While Tharja was rather distant from her future daughter at first, Libra was quick to accept her as his own.
Frederick and Cherche are also happily married, and they have Gerome. Though Gerome has tried to act like he wants nothing to do with this "past family" of his, both of his parents can see right through him.
Virion and Miriel married and had Laurent. Laurent has picked up on both his mother's intelligence and his father's skill with words, making him the ample and typically-agreed-upon "leader" of the other future children, alongside Lucina.
Say'ri met a tactician known as Kraven, and the two had Morgan. Morgan is a master with the sword, and she always loves testing her skill against her friends, particularly Lucina and Owain.
Now for child unit relationships! None of them are currently married, but are together.
Lucina and Robin are in a relationship. Most everyone still believes Robin to be a young man, much to their entertainment. They're still a little afraid of Lucina's family though.
Owain and Cynthia were the first of the future kids to become official, and they continue to be known as the power couple of the army.
Inigo and Severa, despite how it may appear to some, are also content in their relationship. Inigo "likes the thrill of the chase" that Severa grants him, even if they're already together.
Yarne and Noire have developed a bond, though not quite official yet. They're both a bit too hesitant to put it out there.
Laurent and Kjelle are new to such a relationship, though they seem quite comfortable with one another.
Nah and Morgan are very close, but it's not really a proper romantic relationship, either. Maybe someday, though.
Pssst
Anyone wanna hear about my family trees for Awakening? I've been working hard on them and I'd also be open to hearing others' ideas for them too 👀

Who's the Most Likely, Least Likely, or Maybe Fathers for Severa based on Classes, looks, supports, and/or mannerisms?
Most Child units inherit the hair color from their fathers (with the exception of Female Morgan, who inherited her mother's hair color, and Lucina). But some parents are more fitting for some child units then others based on Classes, looks, supports, mannerisms, etc. I'm not looking for who would make the kid stronger. Just a parent who would make sense for the Child Units.
Recap: Brady
Cynthia
Laurent
Noire
Yarne
Gerome
Nah
Kjelle
Lucina
Owain
Inigo
Morgan
Here's what I've gathered about Severa (or Selena in Fates)
1.) Severa's Class is Mercenary, which she could've gotten from Gregor, Donnel or Robin. Plus in Future Past Severa reveals that she follows in Gregor's footsteps to become a mercenary.
2.) One of Severa's interests is make-up. In Gregor/Cordelia's A Support it's mentioned that Gregor knows how to apply make-up. (I'm getting a cute image of Gregor teaching tiny Severa how to apply make-up)
3.) Severa is a decent strategist as shown in her supports with Robin (The Male Avatar), as well as her B Support with Yarne where she gives him a tactical lecture. She beats Leo in their A Support. Something she would have learned from Robin, and/or Virion (He plays chess which is considered a strategy game and He beats Robin at a strategy game in their supports).
4.) Many of Severa's supports highlight how seriously she takes combat and training. This could've been inherited from Lon'qu (He keeps challenging other men to training fights in their supports to find a worthy opponent and get stronger). Maybe Gregor (since age comes with experience, plus have you seen Gregor & Lon'qu's support?) and Frederick (he takes training seriously, if you see Frederick/Tharja's C Support its intense)
5.) In Severa's (or Selena) A Support with Corrin it's revealed she can sew. Which she could've been inspired by Gregor (in Gregor/Cordelia's B Support it's revealed he can sew), Gaius (Gaius/Lissa supports reveal that he's good at making embroidery), and Frederick (He also knits Chrom a blanket in their C Support. One of his solo barracks conversations allows you to catch him muttering to himself about knitting everyone matching gloves and wondering what color to make them.)
6.) In Severa's A Support with her father she says she burns everything she cooks, Robin can't cook either, the only one who likes it is Panne. But In Severa (or Selena) B Support with Subaki and in her Supports with Peri it's revealed she learned how to cook. Which she could've been inspired by Gregor (See Gregor/Olivia's Supports), Gaius (Gaius's support conversations with Olivia reveals that he enjoys baking his own sweets. Plus in other supports, he can do housework. In Gaius/Sumia's S Support he says he can do the cooking.), Vaike (See Vaike & Chrom's supports), and Ricken (Some barracks dialogue has Ricken mention that cooking is something all modern men should know how to do.)
7.) Selena/Subaki S Support reveals she learned to craft accessories. Gaius/Panne S Support reveals he can craft jewelry.
8.) Severa tends to overspend so much that her father said "Most royal houses couldn't afford to shop the way you just did…". Would that cross out anyone that noble, like Virion, and Ricken? Or would you say that she literally spends so MUCH that even nobles are surprised?
9.) In Severa's C Support with her father, she said He's not that much older than her and that she bets most people they were brother and sister seeing them side by side. This may conflict with Gregor possibly being her father BUT we know that Gregor doesn't like being called old, so Severa could be saying that to butter him up into buying her things.
Who do you think is the child's units mostly likely, maybe, and least likely parents based on Classes, looks, supports, mannerisms, etc?
I'm not sure if I got everything. There's always a chance I'm missing something but I'm willing to listen to any input and reasons why you think whatever father is suitable for Severa.

Day 5: Sunlit
The sun was a constant in Tharja’s life, a reminder for the many choices she’d made in life. It scorched across Plegia’s sands, a gentle embrace in Ylisse, and a coldness that drove for comfort in Regna Ferox; no matter where she was in the world or in her life, the sun always revealed the feelings of her own. It was strange at times, to compare something bright to herself, but it felt accurate at times, the sun was a constant in everyone’s lives and was necessary for life unfortunately.
In Pelgia, the sun had been overbearing, a constant reminder of her choices and how she had little control over her life. It loved to play tricks on the inhabitants who called the desert their home and drove many to wait out it’s scorching hands. Night wasn’t much better, but at least it was a break from the sun’s control. In Tharja’s mind, Plegia’s sun reminded her too much of Gangrel, how he wanted to control and destroy everything in front of him, how his choices drove his people away and how willing they were to accept someone else. Now it had only been a matter of time to reveal that Validar was no better, but he hid his true attention in the cool of night, the heat that would forever plague the sands. Hopefully, Robin would prove to bring what Plegia needed, a true cool night for the people who worked and celebrated through the night.
Ylisse’s sun had been warm and caring, nothing like Plegia, but still warming then Regna Ferox sun. She couldn’t say if she liked Ylisse’s sun, but it was nice to feel warmth that didn’t threaten to burn her or to play a trick on her mind. It took her a while to accept it or to connect in her mind, but Ylisse’s sun was the Shepherds. They had always been open and kind with her, accepting her with open arms and never questioned why she turned. It was eventually bound to get them stabbed in the back, but she decided long ago that it would not be by her own hands.
Ferox’s sun was… weird. She didn’t expect to associate the sun with coldness, but like with Regna Ferox, it held many surprises for her. Despite being cold, bringing little heat to the mountains or its inhabitants, it was bright, more so than the desert at times. It is shown among the ice and snow, casting everything in a glow that would stop anyone in their tracks. And despite providing little heat, the people held enough warmth to make up for it. They had been cold to her at first, it was to be expected and she quickly figured that the sun had been right this time. But probably too soon, after proving that she was here to stay, did they open up to her and did another part of Feroxian culture open up to her. She never expected a place associated with war and barbarians to be so warm and accepting, for as long as you could provide something, you were welcomed into Regna Ferox.
But, never before had she associated the sun with anyone before, not until she fell in love. Olivia was like her own little sun, something she could keep to herself, but knew that it wouldn’t be fair to the world. Warm and caring, it showed through in her dancing and no matter how many times Tharja saw her, it felt like her whole world had gotten brighter. At times she wished to keep her sun to herself, but she learned that a miserable love would lead to a miserable life. When she held their son for the first time, born too early into their world did she fall in love again. And a few years later, the feeling was brought back when she brought their daughter into the world. They were both her sunsets and sunrises, never really settling into one, but always reflecting the other in some way.
And it was in moments like these, when she realized she had collected the sun’s cycle, did she wonder where she fit into everything. Where was her place within her family? She knew they loved her, but the sun had never been associated with her, how could she fit into its embrace. Insecurity hardly plagues her mind, but that’s why she had a family, to chase them away with their light and provide clarity for her. If they were her suns, then she was their moon, reflecting their light and guiding them when times were dark. She had her part in their small family and she was loved for it, even if she would never be their sun.

Fire Emblem Awakening: The intended couples After all these years of regularly posting ships I came to realize I never posted my final conclusions for Fire Emblem Awakening. I’ll try to go in depth for each couple/child and why I think these were supposed to be the default couples. These couples are based upon their story, not on their best possible stats. In case you are curious: spoilers ahead! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chrom & Sumia This an obvious one, they are the poster couple, the true default and the easiest attainable. Sumia is already crushing on Chrom beforehand, plus she is somewhat featured in the story early on as opposed to other love interests. The only competition to Sumia would have been Olivia and Robin. If you are playing female Robin, I would recommend her with Chrom and Sumia with Frederick. Olivia doesn’t make sense because Inigo (Laslow) flirts with DLC Lucina in Fire Emblem Fates. This would be creepy if they were considered siblings. Sumia also makes a lot of sense for Lucina as a mother, because their support is mainly about fashion, Sully wouldn’t make sense here. Chrom is also a good dad for Cynthia as he might be the biggest hero of them all. Lucina and Cynthia as siblings are also a reflection of Chrom and Lissa themselves. Cynthia has a similar hairstyle and is a bit tomboy-ish, like her aunt.
Robin & Lucina Since male Robin is the default option, I’ll use him for this example. Robin is really difficult to find the fight pair for, especially with the DLC characters added. Walhart and Aversa both offered unique skills and white hair, which would be nice for Morgan. But since Morgan’s default class is Tactician, it makes sense that their parent is also someone who makes sure they get that passed down. Lucina ultimately wins over these candidates, simply because her confession image is the ONLY one with a different background. Marrying her to Robin also gives them unique dialogue options down the road during the story. It’s also interesting that the blood of the exalt and the blood of Grima are both in Morgan. Additionally if you keep your characters their base class and play the paralogue at level 20 (which I use for every child unit) Morgan will have Aether and will learn Ignis later on, having both unique offensive skills. And finally, because the pairing of Robin and Lucina is so complex, the third timeline Morgan comes from makes more sense.
 Lissa & Vaike
Lissa was a difficult one to pair because she matches well with almost anyone and Owain doesn’t really reveal any traits. It was either Vaike or Henry. Lissa and Vaike are both laid back and bond with their admiration of Chrom. Vaike yells several catchphrases into battle, which is probably what Owain adopted, though a bit over the top. He gets his blonde hair from Vaike, to match Lissa’s hair color, similar to how Lucina looks like her father. Owain and Vaike both aspire to become great heroes and he would definitely take an arrow for Owain. Vaike’s default class also gives Owain Zeal, which gives him extra critical hit points. A nice treat for a myrmidon.
 Sully & Stahl
I try to avoid same-classes as couples because those seem really obvious. Sully and Stahl are an exception though. They’re often used side-by-side, which helps to grow their supports. It might also be fanservice for people who shipped Cain and Abel. Stahl scores good points because he is one of a few characters with an affinity for food. It makes sense for him to be able to cook for Kjelle, but also to have tested Sully’s food. On top of that, by having two cavalier parents, Kjelle will have both cavalier skills on top of her knight skills, making her a two-in-one.
 Miriel & Kellam
Miriel was the hardest character to pair someone with, since Laurent gives of no hint of his father’s dna at all. But that’s where the clue lies. Kellam’s undetectability also works for his genes, creating a Miriel clone in the process. It doesn’t seem out of place for him to tickle Laurent to loosen him up. The Indoor Fighter skill is also very much an introvert skill. Miriel’s ending also mentions how she made history, which works incredible with Kellam’s: “her husband’s name has been lost to history”
 Maribelle & Donnel
It’s either him or Vaike. They both have an accent, which Brady inherited, they are both commoners which is a nice contrast next to her and they both help her develop as a character. Donnel’s Underdog skill on Brady makes sense and Donnel doesn’t exactly seem like the person to take a moment for tea, but would rather keep working. Maribelle ending up living with Donnel’s mom also is a hysterical ending.
 Panne & Henry
Henry already likes her for being part animal. He’s also the reason she went to safe the exalt. There isn’t anyone else that works with Panne the way Henry does. He loves animals so it makes sense for him to get an animal-like child. Panne claims she might be the only one to be able to change Henry, which is probably why he turned out a good father. Henry’s starting chapter is 13, which is also Yarne’s paralogue number. And who wouldn’t be a scared mess with a father like Henry?
 Cordelia & Gregor
One of the easiest ones. Gregor makes it obvious in their A-support that he is into Cordelia, so it’s canon regardless who you pair them up with. Gregor also makes sense why Severa acts so spoiled, but also caused her to work hard for what she wants. She also became a mercenary like him, avoiding pegasi that remind her of her mom. I’ve always wished I could pair up Cordelia with Chrom though…
 Nowi & Ricken
The oldest with the youngest. Ricken is statistically the partner who would stick around the longest with Nowi. Her old but childish nature matches very well with Ricken’s young but maturing nature. Nah really reflects that Ricken energy, trying to prove her worth to others and acting more mature than they are. Nah really had to grow up fast, having two children for parents. And that she gets a serious skill like Focus, just confirms this only more.
 Tharja & Gaius
Their support is a good lead-up to a romance. I don’t think him liking bad girls was part of the curse. They’re both not the nicest people, though their intentions aren’t too bad. They couldn’t care less about their odd couple ending. Gaius is the perfect person to steal Tharja’s equipment to protect Noire. Having an archer with extra movement is nice too, especially considering it’s our meek Noire.
 Olivia & Virion
The entire reason my couple hunt started. Olivia says in their A-support that she find Virion dreamy, so once again it’s a canon attraction regardless their pairings. Olivia obviously taught what she learned from Virion to Inigo, which is why he acts and looks like him so much. He has a similar way of speaking as him and even his hair looks somewhat like a shorter version of his. Virion’s default archer class also offers Inigo Prescience, which works well with his already existing Patience skill, giving him permanent +10 on dodging.
 Cherche & Lon’qu
Every female support Lon’qu has, helps him ease his fear. But Cherche really takes the cake with that. She helps him learn the truth of his past and overcome his trauma. Her knitting him warm clothes in the cold Regna Ferox is a neat detail in their ending. His aloof nature is passed onto Gerome and them being distant towards each other makes a lot of sense. And Gerome with vantage makes wyverns even scarier.

I feel like we’re veering dangerously close to “Awakening bad” territory and I’m getting a little scared.
Yeah fair, I’ll throw out some positivity to even it out.
Awakening is fucking great and I sank several hours into it grinding and building characters in a way that I never have with Fates or 3H. Like Awakening it was possible to completely break the game and it was so much fun but also grinding wasn’t fucking tedious
Chrom is my buff husband and accidentally marrying him after I got all his other love interests killed was one of the best things to ever happen to me
Playing through Warriors is reminding me how much I love Lissa and her spunk she’s so good. And of course, Owain is my dramatic boy. Also Lon’qu x Lissa slapped
Tharja and Libra’s support also slapped
I know people give Chrom x Olivia shit but fuck jt they probably didn’t get married right at the end of the first half and everyone else can get married quickly if you’re grinding and THEY’RE CUTE TOGETHER
Gregor hasn’t gotten any focus in years but I also love him. Funny big man probably gives great hugs
I love that all the supports are kinda goofy and hen you play through Future Past with the 2nd generation and it’s like “oh yes these children have trauma”
You fight zombies instead of teenagers and I appreciate that so much.
Honestly best Anna outfit, sucks it didn’t make it into Heroes
Speaking of Heroes. Grima hot. All versions
Going back to supports that slapped, I WANT TO BE MANHANDLED
Also slapped: Laurent and Severa
Cordelia and Sumia’s supports don’t actually mention Chrom which is a win
Only game with Griffon riders for some reason AND WHY GIMME THE BIG BIRBS BIG BIRBS
Ok back to legit things the map after Emmeryn died? Fucking slapped
It’s also the game that saved the fucking franchise and without it we don’t have Heroes bringing attention to older games or the Shadow Dragon port or Three Houses
Frederick wears a fucking butler outfit under his armor and I think that’s funny as fuck
Female mercenary outfits were cute as shit it’s one of my favorite class designs ever. Honestly overall I really like all of the class outfits in Awakening more than I like other ones across the series
Yusuke Kozaki’s character art and design FUCKING SLAPS everyone in this game is so hot
Walhart’s a dope villain
THE SOUNDTRACK IS SO GOOD. Id (Purpose)? The most fucking hype ever I’m sorry
I got to make a dramatic self sacrifice and all my friends were sad and we can file that under the list of things that probably lead to me being an angst gremlin today

Rant time!
This’ll be a long one, by the way.
One thing that does annoy me in both Awakening and Fates is characters that only have supports with one, usually the avatar, character.
Often because it doesn’t make any sense. And don’t get me started on how the adults and ‘kids’ can only support with those in their age group for the most part, excluding their parents and the avatar.
Like, in Awakening, all of the DLC characters only have supports with Robin. Anna has two but still counts, really.
When that doesn’t even make too much sense. I mean, it wouldn’t be too hard to think of who else they would get a support with.
Gangrel: Chrom, Aversa, Emmeryn, maybe Tharja Walhart: Say’ri, Yen’fay, Basilio and Flavia, and maybe Virion. Emmeryn: CHROM AND LISSA. The most fucking obvious thing do to. Also probably Lucina, Tiki, and Frederick. Yen’fay: Say’ri and Walhart. Maybe Lon’qu and Virion. Aversa: As mentioned, Gangrel, and probably Henry and Tharja. Maybe Chrom. Priam: ...Ok, this one is harder because the character doesn’t show up before the end game. But i can still think of some. Chrom, because both are descended from a legendary hero and have even inherited their blades. Vaike, thinking Priam would be a worthy opponent for him. Lon’qu, wanting to cross blades with him. Say’ri and Yen’fay, for the same reason as Lon’qu. Basilio and Flavia, both trying to recruit him as their champion. Maybe even someone like Miriel or Laurent, wanting to know more about the Radiant Hero. Anna: Gaius, because Anna can procure tough to get ingredients for his sweets. Libra, trying to warn her from her greed for gold. Olivia, thinking she can make a mint from charging people to see performances by her. Maybe even Panne and Yarne, trying to get secret taguel recipes that she can mass produce and sell.
See? It really is not that hard!
Even with Fates, let’s see if I can remember the characters who just have a support with the avatar... Or just a few supports.
I won’t be including the amiibo characters, by the way. While it would be nice to have supports with them, I would also be really annoyed because I hate when a game locks content like that behind amiibo and doesn’t even give like a DLC option to get the content instead.
Shura: Uh. Kaze, Saizo and Kagero would be good options. Ryoma could also work. On of the other side of the conflict, Niles would work. I’m also kinda leaning towrds Benny and Arthur for him, and maybe Elise. Reina: Uh, she works for the palace of Hoshido. Ryoma, Hinoka, Takumi... maybe not Sakura because of her taste for violence. Saizo, Kagero, Setsuna, Azama, Orochi, Hana, Subaki... there is a long fucking list of people she could have supported with. So why was it only Corrin? Who the fuck knows. I could also see her having a support with Gunter. Scarlet: Another wasted oppurtunity. Ryoma of course is an obvious one. Saizo and Kagero too, being Ryoma’s retainers. She could even have ‘frenemy’ supports with the Nohr royalty, her seeing them as part of the problem at first but gradually coming to see that they’re not like Garon. Gunter: Xander is a pretty obvious one. Flora is another. It is a bit harder for Gunter since he primarily just shows up as this game’s ‘Jagen’ character, but I still think there would be plenty who have heard stories about him and either want training or to test their mettle against him. Flora: Uh, Jabob? That’s a pretty obvious one. Nohr royalty who want to check up on how Corrin is doing. Yukimura: See Reina’s thing about working in the palace of Hoshido? That pretty much applies for Yukimura too. Izana: Royals of both countries, and possibly some of their retainers too. Fuga: He would be another good one to have a support with Gunter. Maybe also Hinata, and basically anyone who wants to become a good, strong warrior, like Rinkah. Anna: Kaden and Keaton, trying to find out secret recipes of their races to sell, Beruka, Charlotte and Izana.
See, it’s really not that hard to think of at least a few more characters to expand on these supports. And it is really annoying when they’re just given one support with the avatar and then maybe one other, they could have really fleshed out these characters. The problem was definitely worse in Fates, a lot of the characters I mentioned do not have much depth and that definitely could have been changed with some more supports. Hell, I had to look at a character list for Fates because characters like Yukimura and Shura are pretty forgettable.
I could go on and add some of the capturable enemies in Fates (Candace needs more attention because she’s actually pretty hot) but nyeh.

____________________
And here comes the part where I explain myself:
‣ Names were infinitely harder this time because I had less to base it off of, and had to play the headcanon game. Most characters will have their full name chosen based on what went with their first name’s origin, and what names suited their personalities (and flowed well).
‣ One such instance of headcanon is Chrom being “Chrom Saros”, which was decided by the fact that I’d called his father “Saros” in fanfiction before. I imagine Chrom detests his full name because of its ties to his father.
‣ The name Sumia is of Arabic origin, so she gets an Arabic last name. Maybe she is biracial? Fun idea to toy with.
‣ Like Keaton and Kaden in the previous ones, Nowi made her last name up. She just picked something she thought sounded cool and cute, and went along with it.
‣ Panne was given the option to choose a last name, but chose nothing. If it wasn’t a taguel thing, what was the point? She was already the only taguel. Panne would always be Panne.
‣ Names for the most part in Plegia were inspired by desert countries, such as Algeria. Given Plegia’s desert aesthetics, I figured it would only make sense that those who hailed from there would be given names that were popular in real life desert countries.
‣ Any of the characters originating from Chon’sin were given Japanese names (with some slight adjustments to account for the Chon’sin love of apostrophes). There is not much sourcing on the background inspiration for Chon’sin other than the wiki briefly mentioning that it’s “sort of Japanese, a bit like Hoshido but much less influenced”. So I played around with some names and got that together.
‣ Some characters straight up have names without backgrounds. It happens in fantasy settings. Where it did, I just decided to flat out substitute in fantasy names. Miriel, for example, is a name that originates from fiction already. So I just slapped on some other fantasy names and voila.
‣ Walhart’s last name is linked not to his name’s origin, but to Alm of Echoes. If I remember correctly, Walhart is meant to be Alm’s descendant, so I figured it would make sense for the two of them to have names that match in some way. Plus, Walhart is another one of those fantasy names.
Anyway, that’s all I’ve got for now! I’d say “I’ll do Three Houses next”, but they’ve already got them haha. I suppose I could do any of the older games if someone wanted me to, but I’m afraid I don’t know the characters as well. Still, doesn’t mean I’m not willing to try ;)

Well speaking of AU stuff, you mentioned having a Card Captor Lissa AU correct? 👀
Yes in fact I am working on a Cardcaptor Lissa AU :D It’s still fairly early in development and I’m really not sure what I’m going to do with it in the end (comic? fic? a combination of the two? something else?), but it’s a lot of fun to play around with since it’s lighter with overall lower stakes than a lot of my other stories.  Modern day, heavy on the slice of life, magic as a quiet thriving undercurrent (something integrated into Plegian society, mostly forgotten by Ylissean, something that comes into greater focus as the story proceeds).
While I tend to see a lot of the characters in Awakening being close in age, this particular AU needs some additional disparity to fill a lot of the roles.  Robin and Chrom are both in high school, as are Sully, Sumia, Olivia, and Cordelia; Lissa’s still in grade school, along with Maribelle, Ricken, and Donny; while Emmeryn, Frederick, Miriel, Gregor, and Libra are older and have jobs that they tend to.  When Henry and Tharja arrive on the scene, Henry joins Lissa’s class, while Tharja joins Robin and Chrom’s.  Henry becomes a direct counter to Lissa in her attempts to re-collect the missing cards -- not as a rival seeking to capture them for himself and prove his own worth, but as a force of opposition trying to stop her from claiming them at all.
Grima and Naga remain as mythic figures, but there are kernels of truth within those myths that have endured to the present day.  Plegia’s faith in Grima endures, and Henry wants to ensure the fell dragon’s return.  Unlike Lissa, though, Henry clearly recognizes Robin’s power -- which fuels both his shyness toward the high-schooler and his eagerness to win Robin’s favor (which he finds very freely given, unlike Tharja, who just keeps scaring Robin off with her attempts).
It’s just a fun little exploration so far and I’ve really enjoyed playing around with it when I have time!

Note
do u have any headcannons abt any other people in awakening?? 💕💕
let’s do the 1st generation shepherds! (excluding chrom and robin)
-Olivia, Gaius, and Anna are all Plegian. unless a Plegian is mixed, (common at the borders) Plegian hair is white, black (grey), and red tones. Sully and Miriel, however, are still 100% Ylissean.
-Libra serves Naga in one of the largest cathedrals in Ylisstol, hence why he’s so dedicated to Emmeryn. he’s heard her speak on every holiday that calls for her presence, and resonates with her yearning for peace.
-Tharja is agnostic. when you meet her, the first thing she expresses is her dissatisfaction with a blind cause. she doesn’t care for Grima at all, and would rather study her dark magic.
-Donnel is impressive with his knowledge of living off the land, and he’s a huge resource for the more aristocratically-inclined of the shepherds. he’s a more enjoyable teacher than Frederick, to be sure. Frederick himself is eager to learn all he can!
-Lissa litters camp with small gifts, pranks, and messages. she loves to leave a surprise for her friends, especially in the gloom of war.
-Vaike is ethnically Feroxi, born in Ylisse
-Sumia is precise with her hands, despite her clumsiness. she’s good at embroidery, sewing, and doily making, and loves to personalize things for herself and her friends. (also, she adores just about anything that’s pink.)
-Virion is the one who teaches Robin to dance for his wedding, at his own insistence. to his credit, he’s a fantastic teacher.
-everyone has chores they prefer, and Maribelle loves going into town for supplies. shes the best haggler of the group, and she picks out any injustices as they come.
-Stahl picks natural growing herbs to use in his own medicines on the road. the more curious and rambunctious shepherds (Nowi, Donnel, Lissa) caught on, and keep an eye out for them as well.
-Sully is a rough big sister type, hard on her friends-turned-family because of her trauma with loss after her two brothers died.
-Gregor is an animal lover, and enjoys the horses and wyverns regardless of if he ever gets classed into having one. when he’s not doing the more work-intensive chores for the camp, he’ll be in the stables, talking to the animals like they understand him.
-Miriel finds Panne to be invaluable, scientifically. she’s tasked herself with writing down every single piece of taguel custom and lore Panne can remember, before the world loses that knowledge completely… of course, Panne never asked Miriel to do this. (Miriel insists on giving Tiki and Nowi the same treatment, Nowi demanding treats as payment)
-Henry and Donnel bond well over backwater living. they’re both earnest, but come from opposite ends from the magic-versus-melee spectrum. when they hang out, either a miracle or a disaster occurs. (Donnel laughs at all of Henry’s corny jokes!)
-Olivia loves being included in group activities (especially girl groups doing tea parties or book readings), and is a natural born hostess. she anticipates her friends needs before they know themselves. also an empathetic crier.
-Nowi insists on stopping in town during festivals, and shows off her tricks to townsfolk of her own volition. she adores the attention, especially from kids, and lets them touch her dragonskin.
-Kellam keeps a diary, as a written record of his existence. he’ll also write down little moments on his journey he doesn’t want to forget, or recipes, or the progress of the garden he keeps with Frederick and Donnel.
-Cherche is the mom friend.
-Gaius can dependably sumrise the value of any given object. accuracy lowers with distance. when the Shepherds are at dinner, it’s not uncommon for the group around Gaius to be playing this guessing game with him, especially if they already know the price. the game steadily gets more challenging, and others will join. (Chrom is unnaturally bad at it.)
-Cordelia always prioritizes her job, so others around her can feel neglected. She’s bad with kids in the long-term because she’s in her own world, and bad at teaching because she’d rather focus on honing her own abilities.
-Lonqu has a refined palate, but will still eat anything set before him, regardless of how much he likes or dislikes it. There are few foods Lonqu will outright refuse.
-Ricken dives into any new interest head-first. He likes being able to do anything and everything, so that he can be useful lest he’s called upon. this only helps him when he ages into a high-order mage. and, eventually, he gets the height he always wanted… but never the bulk!
-the Shepherds as a whole are a big family, and it’s not uncommon to share clothes and food with one another.
-contrary to popular fanon, I believe the Shepherds are funded just fine. usually the problem is receiving gold from the capital, with the shepherds moving as they please–and the bandits have been getting worse recently.
-special mention: Emmeryn went on several speaking campaigns through the country when she was younger, inspiring her citizens (Vaike) and teaching Chrom the importance of direct action.

alright folks, I’m back for more of those results from the anniversary poll; once again, I’ll be counting them as properly as I can because IS sure as hell can’t, and in the process, I will also judge whether the fans have spoken good choices
this time, we’ll be counting and criticizing the top 15 dancing duos! (disclaimer: I don’t dance. I still will attempt to comment on everyone else’s dancing)
#1: BERKUT & RINEA (9313 votes)
Tumblr media
tumblr won’t let me simply put two images next to each other in a text post, and I can’t be fucked to put them together in such a way that doesn’t make them un-transparent, so I’ll be putting them together with a simple color background; it’s a spot uglier and I will probably fail to spot some wonky pixels, but c’est la vie
anyways, I don’t like it, but like Byleth before, this is a natural afk pick; they’re some of a very small subset of characters in the series that we actually see dancing with each other, in a proper cutscene. a cutscene that, in fact, basically exists to tell us that they look good dancing, so one’s not wrong to vote for them here, I suppose. there are, in fact, a lot of people in this world who are fantastic performers and also would throw their spouses in a fire if they figured it’d make them feel good about themselves again
#2: OLIVIA & INIGO (2474 votes, including Laslow)
Tumblr media
this is actually sweet, though, mother-son dancing duo and all. one thing I do have to mention, though, is that you’d have to hope that our hypothetical dance-off was announced plenty of time in advance, there’s so much that could bring a performance between them crashing and burning if they don’t hash it all out for themselves first
#3: EDELGARD & DIMTIRI (1871 votes across all appearances, possibly with uncounted change)
Tumblr media
they sure do look fantastic, dancing with other people with their backs completely to each other,
might as well stuff this strangely popular nothing-of-a-choice with a little additional note: these paired votes are going to be especially harrowing on the split vote front, because any combination of two characters who both have split votes means they can be combined with each other in 4 different ways. like, most people probably won’t combine, say, someone’s PoR self with someone else’s RD self, but properly unsplitting votes in this is going to be a lot more of a challenge. and that’s to say nothing of byleth; there is a whopping 16 different ways to combine Byleth and any one Three Houses character
ETA: I. completely forgot about the thing where edelgard tried to teach dimitri to dance when they were young. okay, that kind of tracks. but also like, whomst the fuck got the idea that whatever they were doing there was building up to elegance
#4: ELIWOOD & NINIAN (1495 votes)
Tumblr media
I’m getting the lingering feeling that this fandom is a lot better at pointing out good dancers than good teachers-
this one’s another amazing pick; sure, not one you have to think a lot about, since they’re oft-shipped and one of them is an actual dancer -- but the beauty of it is that even the ostensible weak link still has much offer, between his flawless elegance and a love of dancing that we at the very least knows is in his lineage
let’s just hope eliwood would still prefer to keep the “special dances” private though-
#5: BYLETH & CLAUDE (1163 votes across all appearances, possibly with uncounted change)
Tumblr media
speaking of the ballroom cutscene again, man, Claude sure has left an impression on us all back there-
still, we don’t actually see the dance, and it’s probably better that we don’t -- I wouldn’t bet that Byleth is any more expressive with their moves than they are with their face. there’s really not very much of a reason to vote for this other than wanting to insert yourself into a situation where one dances with Claude. and I mean, mood, but let’s focus, please-
#6: OLIVIA & AZURA (996 votes)
Tumblr media
this is just a copout, though. this is like if I asked you about the best food in your town and you just told me that technically Gordon Ramsey was born there. ooo, hot take alert, two unrelated professional performers can probably put on a decent performance together!
at least their theme colors together make the trans flag, so I’ll give all 996 of you that much-
#7: ALM & CELICA (990 votes)
Tumblr media
was there like an actual thing where they dance, or were people picking this just because they’re good-looking and married? because like, in the absence of evidence, I cannot and will not assume that Alm is a remotely passable dancer.
in fact, here’s the drill: for this section, I can’t actually blame people if they’re just hornyvoting -- being hot is kind of a point-plus for this -- but I can and will blame them if they’re voting for their ships with no regard as to whether they’d look good dancing. so, accusations of hornyvoting shall make way -- to accusations of shipvoting! I believe that’s also going to happen on the other paired category, even if that one is a lot less about the chemistry (presumably)
#8: NILS & NINIAN (884 votes)
Tumblr media
this kind of a copout again, but it’s also a family dance again, BUT most importantly one of these two is not actually a dancer. like, sure, he plays the flute, but this isn’t a flute-and-dance duo poll, it’s a dance poll! although I mean, it does mean he must have a good notion of rhythm, and from the sprites we can definitely tell he’s got a spring in his step when he plays, and Ninian can teach him too, so... maybe? oh well, it’d be cute to see them try
#9: SIGURD & DEIRDRE (790 votes)
Tumblr media
eh, I’m gonna call shipvoting on this one too. like, sure, they’re both hot and they’re in love with each other, but even if you leave aside the likelihood that Deirdre was raised too shelthered to have danced like ever, any dancing they’d know of would be totally incompatible, considering their entirely distinct backgrounds.
I suppose I will lend credence to the idea that Sigurd’s at least experienced as far as dancers go; it’s not like he was studying back at that academy,
#10: BYLETH & EDELGARD (735 votes across all appearances, possibly with uncounted change)
Tumblr media
since most of the votes on this are for post-timeskip edelgard, this appears to be unrelated to the ballroom scene, for once
that said, I can’t think of anything to this other than regular shipvoting -- and not even shipvoting of much quality, because besides the above-mentioned on whether byleth can dance, I have a nagging feeling that the kind of dancing Edelgard would genuinely be interested in would be strictly for fun, without any sort of elegance or other things that an outside participant would enjoy watching
#11: TSUBASA & CAEDA & KIRIA & THARJA (687 votes)
Tumblr media
don’t let the fact that I found a transparent tsubasa but not a transparent kiria distract you from the absolute trainwreck that resulted from the naming scheme used in FEH for TMS#FE characters crashing into the notation I’m using for the duos here- ahem, well, please be distracted from both of those things, anyway
assuming this is just between the two mirage users and we’re not talking about the most awkward foursome in history, well... I once again have not played TMS#FE, so uh, they sure are both pop idols and I think people ship them, I guess?
#12: MARTH & CAEDA (596 votes across all appearances)
Tumblr media
I mean... there’s a lot that can be said about their individual qualities and their dynamics, but I have absolutely no idea how any of it would translate into a ballroom. and if we’re any inclined to believe that skill with words and skill with bodily expression tend to be opposite skillsets, then theyyyy are both screwed.
#13: PENT & LOUISE (508 votes)
Tumblr media
I get it, I do. they both look sparkly beautiful and haute and classy and like everything around them is prettier for them being there. but let me categorically tell you that neither of these two dance.
neither of these two dance because one, Pent is an absolute potato, and two, Pent specifically chose Louise because she didn’t try to impress him with a dance.
#14: SAUL & DOROTHY (495 votes)
Tumblr media
regardless of any merits they may or may not have, this is 100% just to get them into heroes, isn’t it. alright, I can respect that
but as for whether they can dance... sure, maybe? Dorothy is full of hidden talents, and Saul has probably tried to dance enough times to guide her along at least
#15: CORRIN & AZURA (476 votes across all genders)
Tumblr media
alas, there’s no way this can work out, because we all know corrin has two left feet.
thank you, thank you! I’ll be here every night!
HONORABLE MENTIONS (highest vote in their continuity, without reaching top 15)
Ike & Soren (344 votes across all appearances): disappointingly, of the stark few Tellius pairs that got on this list, the best-ranked of them is 100% blatant shipvoting. I mean, sure, Ike’s got moves, but Soren?? at least vote Ike & Ranulf you cowards
Eirika & Ephraim (323 votes): first, we’d have to extensively train Ephraim on how to not make this experience entirely embarassing for Eirika, but that can be said of most anything they could do together in public-
Triandra & Plumeria (280 votes): yep, still unfunny. and now all of you 280 assholes are stretching it
Ferdinand & Lorenz (95 votes, possibly with uncounted change): I’m just mentioning them because I’m one of these 95 people. and so should more of you have been! don’t you know elegance when it’s right in front of you? huh? huhhh????
and that’s it, you’ve endured me attempting to talk about dancing for several minutes when I have no knowledge or experience on the subject! I eagerly await your input in my replies and reblogs, especially from those of you who do dance.
