Upper Crust
"Miss Nikos, I would assume you'd know how to wield a knife better."
Pyrrha was straight up not having a good time.
Learning Who the Arcs were was terrifying. Being in their house nearly made her heart stop.
Having Prismeya Arc, Mama Arc, the Mother of Malfortune, The Matri-Arc stand over her as she tried and failed to slice onions to caramelize them almost made her forget her own name.
"Although ... If all goes well you won't need to worry~ Jaune is quite the cook if you give him time to prepare~"
Pyrrha couldn't tell what was and wasn't a threat. She was shaking so bad she nearly cut herself with the knife three times over.
If she hadn't use the bathroom before this she likely would have peed herself.
And Prismeya simply sat there, watching. Judging. Calculating. Eyes half shut, a sharp smile other lips, swirling a rich, dark red wine in a beautiful glass.
Like a cat playing with a mouse, though Pyrrha would more liken it to a Lioness and the runt of a litter of mice.
One wrong move and her life would be over. Was the Prosthetic-Gun Rumor true? Or the Retractable Claw in place of her nails? DID SHE TRULY CONSUME THE SOULS OF THOSE SHE ENDED?
But Prismeya was simply ... Putting unneeded pressure on her. Pyrrha had wanted to kill Jaune at one point so ... Scare for a scare. Just a little bit of Schadenfreude.
The oven tim-
"AH!"
*Ahem*
The oven timer dinged, startling Pyrrha.
"Ah! The Pie is ready, I'll get that Dear~" Mama Arc lilted as she grabbed a set of Pot holders from a lovely wicker basket on a counter.
Then the Doorbe-
"AAAH!"
*A-HEM*
The Doorbell rang, startling Pyrrha greatly. Truly, there was little that could shoot her nerves any more than they already had been.
"Pyrrha, be dear and get the door~"
Mama Arc's sang out to the poor girl, who hopped straight into action and any reason to escape the kitchen. She raced to the foyer and threw the door open to reveal the new guest.
In the doorway stood a middle aged man, tired, red eyes piercing into her. His feathery salt-and-pepper hair stuck out in sloppy, odd ways, and a red cape hung off his back.
Pyrrha froze, her blood curdling in her veins.
No one made it alone in this life, and no one got to stab someone in the back without finding a knife in theirs at some point, I less you well and truly disappeared.
And the man before her was near godly at doing so.
If it weren't for the sound of her heartbeat skyrocketing in her ears, Pyrrha would've thought she was dreaming.
A hitman, a hunter, an intelligence broker, a heartbreaker, a bandit, a government officer, a cleaner, A Legend.
An Omen.
"Hey you " The smell of alcohol was strong on his breath. "Is Prismeya Arc home? I got some stuff to talk to her about."
Pyrrha hit the ground with a solid 'thunk.'
~~~~~
Jaune replaced the ice-pack on Pyrrha's head, the poor girl running a fever. She conked out when Mr. Branwen had come over, leaving his sisters to finish dinner while Jaune handled his bodyguard.
The news played in the background, Jaune listening in on some very important information.
"This is Lisa Lavender being you the biggest news of the night! Jacques and Willow Schnee have both been arrested on the grounds of Ties to Organized crime, including Gang Violence, Drug Trafficking, and Faunus Trafficking. While there is strong evidence, a deeper investigation will take place. Their children are being moved to an undisclosed, safe location for the time being. We here at the Vale News Network will do our best to keep you Updated as the story develops and information comes to light."
@novankenn for archiving.
For the beach can we please get willow scheen
The Beach: Wil
Jaune: Haa... That was a nightmare...
Jaune: Why are all they so... thirsty? Does, Kink Beach also effect a person sex drive, or something?
Jaune: Haa... whatever that doesn't really...? Hmm? Why is there a pool at the beach? I mean, the ocean is right there! Why did you got to the beach, to swim in a swimming pool? This doesn't make any sense.
: People like the astrosphere found at the beach, but for various reasons they don't like the beach. The salty waters, the crowds. Not to mention the pool is generally safer than the sea, especially for small children.
Jaune: Oh, those are some valid reasons. Thank you for the information.
: Your welcome, Jaune.
Jaune: Wait, you know who I ammmmmmmmmmmmmm...?!!
: Hello, Jaune~1
Jaune: H-Hello, Mrs. Schnee...?!
Willow: So, what brings you here?
Jaune: I've been running from... horny teenagers trying to get into my pants...
Willow: Oh? I see the effects of, Kink Beach are taking effect. Care to hear what mine are~?
Jaune: ...
Jaune: Sure, why not.
Willow: I would like to have an affair~!
Jaune: A-An affair?!
Willow: Yes. I would like to have an affair with a young stud, that completely rearranged my guts with his searing hot rod~! Making forget I had that shrimp of a man as they reshape my body to fit them~!
Jaune: Oh...
Willow: I like the idea of filming a video, of that young stud taking me, covering me, filling me to the brim with their seed. Then sending that video to, Jacques to let him know what it feels to be cuck by a young hung stallion~!
Jaune: That's detailed...
Willow: Even better if that hung stud knocked me up with their bastard. Forcing, Jacques to raise that child as their own. But... more importantly I want another chance... another chance to raise a child with love, and warmth.
Jaune: Oh... that sounds like a lovely idea... partly...
Willow: I do hope it plays out like that~!
Willow: So, Jaune~?
Jaune: Yes?
Willow: Would you perhaps be interested in cucking, Jacques Schnee, and knocking up this lonely horny old milf~?
Jaune: ...
Jaune: T-The changing room showers... w-where are they?
Willow: Oh~? Follow me, Stud~!
I will never love anything the way I love how Whitley got to be portrayed in V8
Before this he was a stuck-up, selfish, annoying little brother who looked like a copy of his father, who had one side too him with only two small hints he was anything else; both in V7
Firstly when Watts enters the manor and Whitley looks mildly afraid of him, and secondly when Willow mentions he’s been alone with her and Jacques with no one else who loves him
But in V8 we get reminded that he’s a Schnee too. Yes, he’s haughty and so clearly upper class and still mildly annoying to Weiss but in a much calmer way, a much clearer way. When all bets are off, Whitley Schnee is the same as his sisters, kind and brave but terribly exasperated by everyone around him
He does what he can with what he has, and definitely reminds of V1-3 Weiss who wanted to do something good with their family name. He isn’t a Huntsmen but he is the Schnee heir; he does know all the things needed to get their airships to help the people of Mantle
And he’s brave too, when he realizes he didn’t hit the confirm button to send the ships, he runs back directly towards the danger of the Hound who’d just scared the shit out of him
Whitley is still a Schnee, and when it comes down to it he is just as capable of compassion and acts of courage like Winter and Weiss are
If I were to make RWBY Poppy's Playtime AU as @felix-mateo mentioned...
Starting off with the premise, there's a toy factory in Remnant called "Guten" and is a branch-off of the Schnee Dust Company. After the mining operation went bust, following the death of Nicholas Schnee, his daughter Willow Schnee soon took over as CEO. Sadly, each of her children had already passed, but that was when she decided to use her talent for crafting to make toys for other children. Seeing their smiles reminded her of her own children, then realized there were children out there with no parents. From there, she opened the "Guten Garten" orphanage within her factory. And she and the orphan children lived happily ever after.
...Until her husband took over. Jacques Schnee, a man who did not share his wife's kindness, saw the children as a blight on his lien. However, he was convinced to continue allowing these children to live in his factory under the condition that they also served another purpose for himself, Arthur Watts, and Dr. Merlot. Under their abuse, the children were subjected to many a horrible experiment, including the development of toy soldiers using the souls of children.
This is all learned when our hero, who is as of yet unnamed, breaks into the long-abandoned factory, and finds his way down into a secret room, where he opens a case containing a real, living doll.
"You opened my case..." - Whitley
So here’s an interesting little detail I noticed while rewatching some of the Beacon arc:
Out of all the various disposable pawns, patsies and stooges we’ve seen utilized by Salem over the course of the show (not counting the stooges who make up her inner circle), it’s funny how the only one who seems to actually recognize how much of a pawn he really is, is TORCHWICK of all people.
Like when you look at Roman’s scenes with Cinder and her minions, and particularly his final fight with Ruby in Volume 3, it’s pretty clear that he was always acutely aware that he was a very small piece of a MUCH larger game.
Just compare that to the likes of Adam, Leonardo, Jacques and Ironwood, who by all rights were all COMPLETELY oblivious to how much they were getting played, or just how little they mattered to Salem.
And that gets even more interesting when you consider that Roman was probably the smallest piece in terms of both status and overall significance compared to Salem’s other pawns. Like I actually don’t think for a moment that Torchwick ever actually met Salem or even KNEW about her by name. I imagine all Roman knew was that there was some boss/mom that Cinder was reporting to.
Instead, Torchwick was able to look at everything Cinder was doing and plotting, between manipulating the White Fang, securing several warehouses of stolen dust, planning a full-on grimm-incursion of Vale during the Vytal Festival with the ultimate aim of toppling one of the four Huntsman Academies. Not to mention I imagine Roman had at least an inkling as to the whole Maiden business that Cinder was after, plus the fact that she seemed to be able to control grimm to a degree. Maybe even guess that this was a plot years if not decades in the making.
And it’s pretty clear that Roman took one look at all this and rightly surmised that he was a bit player in a truly MASSIVE game. As he implies to Ruby during their final fight, Torchwick may not have known much about Salem or her plans, but he knew ENOUGH that he didn’t want to be standing AGAINST her.
Again, just compare that to someone like Adam Taurus, so-called big-shot revolutionary with his big plans to topple the oppression of the humans… who seems to have had no fucking clue that his new ‘friends’ were fully intent on sending him and his followers out to die as a DISTRACTION for their own plans.
Or of course, James Ironwood the big, strong (self-appointed) defender of Atlas and (also self-appointed) last, best hope for humanity, who to his dying breath seems to have been ENTIRELY oblivious to just how completely Salem and her minions were playing him like the cheap kazoo he was.
Or just Jacques Schnee the big-shot corporate overlord who wasn’t even important enough to know about any kind of scheme. All he needed was Watts dangling an election win like keys in front of a baby to be a dutiful little pawn for Salem.
Though funny enough, to Jacques’ credit; the moment he hears about the heating grid going down he does seem to immediately catch on that Watts played him for a chump.
And it’s rather amusing that this is more than can be said for the likes of the ‘Faunus Revolutionary’ who bent the knee to a human girl who kicked his ass, or Ol’ Jimmy the Child-Shooter himself.
#rwby#rwby analysis#roman torchwick#Salem#adam taurus#james ironwood#jacques schnee#in which roman was actually the smartest of salem's stooges#because he could actually SEE that he was a stooge#also yes i am never not going to use that nickname for ironwood XD
salem works from the shadows, but not to the audience—we generally know what she's up to, the identities of the people she's using to get what she wants well known, but what if that wasn't the case?
what if cinder & co were simply just another team arriving to beacon for the tournament, with cinder properly hiding her identity when she's up and about, and torchwick & the criminal underworld of vale taking the sole villain spotlight, the audience having only the heroes' point of view to go along with.
what if tyrian just shows up, hunting down ruby with the audience none the wiser of what is to come before it happens; if the back-and-forth between him and qrow was the first mention of salem's name, the first hint at how (some) of her followers view her.
what if watts was still an atlesian scientist, still with a clear grudge against ironwood and pietro but his connections with the sdc and jacques schnee opening him doors to the atlas military—and then he dies in an explosion related to his inventions and it's treated as a tragedy, but wait! he's actually alive, and with it comes the confirmation that he has been working for salem all along, the virus that caused problems at beacon his handiwork.
what if hazel was just Some Guy™ with an obvious hatred towards ozpin and the academies for an understandable reason (as much as his grief is a factor in the extent of it), coming across ruby & co while they're traveling across anima, and the first impression of him is that he's, by all accounts, helpful and decent person—only for the reveal that he's working for salem to happen later.
it would cause major changes to canon, but as someone who absolutely loves stories where you know only as much as the protagonists do, needless to say, i would live for this—and when the words "salem works from the shadows" are uttered in the show itself, it only makes me want it more. it's like a 'put your money where your mouth is' type of a deal.
I've seen posts about how Jacques "sold out" to Salem, but the funny thing is, that's not what happened.
As far as Jacques was concerned, a buddy of his showed up and offered to help him rig the election. That's it. There was no talk of Salem, no mention of destroying the Academy or bringing down the kingdom. Watts' price for his help was simply for Jacques to make Ironwood's life Hell.
And that's the supreme irony of this whole thing, isn't it? Unlike the rest of Salem's patsies, Jacques had NO IDEA what was going on. The man who cheated his way into the good life by suckering Willow Schnee into a loveless marriage was completely played for a sap. He was given an offer that was simply too good to be true- win the election AND cost-saving layoffs- and fell for it hook, line and sinker.
RWBY volume 4 episode 2: Remembrance rewatch thoughts
RWDE/Critical opinions ahead, you have been warned
.Say what you want about the Schees, they have the color scheme down
.Weiss's depressed walk around the house is a good way to establish the manor. Just pointing out how at lot of assets here look it be 2D inserts, they're blended a lot better then latter so it's not really a problem but still.
.Klein made Crapes :)
.It's feels so weird that Whitley was never mentioned before this, especially with Weiss mentioning how he's "changed" when we have no frame of reference for how he usually acts.
.Ruby's having nightmares and not telling anyone :(
.Okay fine, Jaune talking about his family life is cute. Even though I can't tell if I find the jokes about him being effeminate annoying or charming.
.The dead guy looks as much like a video game NPC as someone can look, really takes away from the impact they're going for.
.While paused for this, I noticed how Stormflower attach to Ren's pants like they've been glued on instead of hooked or holstered into anything and that annoys me.
.This default skin ass Hunter stays alive for the exact amount of time it took to explain how he got there. Makes me wish they'd just found his body and figured things out through context clues.
.The rest of this scene is pretty good aside from that, this character reactions are really well done. I've said and am going to say many things about the writers, but they can write sadness pretty darn good.
.When Ren and Nora looked at that hoofprint, all they could think was "HOW HAS NO ONE KILLED THAT THING BY NOW, COME ON!?"
.I know Jacques says Ironwood is a "trusted friend and ally" to the schees and people have used that to try and say Ironwood was down for all the shit Jacques pulled, but Ironwood clearly doesn't agree with or approve of most of the things Jacques has said or done (He killed this man later for crying out loud) and I could see James being in power long enough to have possibly known Nicholas and had become and ally to them when he was still around (Nick has issues, but he's still better then Jacques)
.So is the embargo trying to make it so nobody has the amount of dust to even start a war? Cause I can't think of how else it would help. Also I'd have to assume this is VERY resent because Nora thanked the Schnee dust company last episode and I'd assume they didn't go to Atlas off screen.
.Why are Ironwood's arms so short, he looks like a T-rex with those things.
.If anyone else not named Jacques asked Weiss to sing for this I'm sure she'd be down, she's just uppity because her dad is being weird about it as usual.
.While I can find Klein's semblance charming, from everything I know about DID including some people who are in systems (Not all DID) IRL that I know (That's as much as your getting from me) it doesn't seem accurate to real systems at all to my understanding, I feel like they shouldn't have just said that he has DID/multiple personalities without any research.
.As much as I dislike Jaune, I can't diss the end of this episode. It's really well done and as good at being as melancholy as intended. Even if yelling and putting yourself through pain in middle of nowhere when other people are sleeping and grimm are around seems really foolish. (If want something more in depth, go ask someone who actually likes Jaune)
RWBY: Well Hidden — Weiss Schnee / Male!Black Reader
—
written and requested for my friend Russ! Thank you and I hope you all enjoy 🌈
Yet another bore party run by Jacque Schnee..again. Weiss was ordered by her dad to keep up appearance for the Schnee family.
The white haired girl just felt hollow and done with everything today, she just wanted to be left alone. Not to mention her brother was rubbing in earlier that he’s allowed to spend time in his room as much he wants.
“Of course, I wouldn’t do that because I actually want to keep the family lineage proud.”
Weiss scoffed lowly remembering as his words lingered her mind. What brotherly love…
And it’s not like her disinterest and appearances would matter with these guests. She could smile and wave like her father tells her and these pompous partygoers would be too busy having their cake and eating it too.
When her father wasn’t looking, Weiss slowly tiptoed away from the ballroom and made her way to the hallways of the Schnee manor. As she walked down the main entrance of her home, she noticed three boys dressed in casual tuxedos and dress shirts were making a ruckus.
All three were conversing with the outdoor voice, it was nauseating to hear. She walked passed them and noticed one of them was holding a small game handheld with a cute star fragment charm as an accessory.
Cute, but also so disruptive and loud.
She let it go and have Kline deal with it later. Right now she just wanted to go back to her room.
She finally made it to her door, opening it and letting out an exhausted sigh as she closed it behind her. Finally, peace and quiet.
She sat on her bed, her legs making contact with her royal blue comforter. She solemnly closed her eyes, the manor was big enough that the violin playing for the party was silence now. Just hollow silence.
Thunk !
Weiss gasped, immediately opened her eyes, she heard a knock from somewhere in her room just now…
“What was that?” She exclaimed.
Her guard was up and eyeing her surroundings. She got up from her bed. She definitely heard something.
“Show yourself, I really not in the mood for games!” Weiss warned. She had a small feeling it was Whitley messing around in her room.
Her closet door opened suddenly, slowly. Weiss turned her heels, seeing who it was.
A boy stepped out, awkwardly shuffling his feet to stand directly in front of her.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you.” He apologized, solemnly. Weiss crossed her arms, blushing in embarrassment as she glared at him.
“You scared me, (Y/n)! What are you doing in my room!” She stomped towards his figure while the boy snickered a bit. She looked so cute when angry.
“Sorry!” He smiled, bashfulness crept over his facial expression. Weiss couldn’t believe her boyfriend almost scared the daylights out of her! She can’t stay too mad…they both know that.
“How did you get into the manor and directly to my room?” The white haired girl quizzed.
“Window.”
Weiss scoffed lightly. “(Y/n), you need to be careful! Crawling through my window is reckless..” she explained, immediately locking the window in question. She turned her head to him. “Wait if one of my father’s security guards saw you?” Concerned lingered in her voice. That just made (y/n) feel guilt waved on him.
Weiss’ eyes softened. She didn’t mean to be so harsh. But these were things that could be worrying. “I’m sorry.” He solemnly apologized. “I just wanted to surprise you and see my cute girlfriend.” Weiss looked away bashful, trying to avoid eye contact and having him see her faint blush.
Weiss felt her hand be held by his suddenly, she stared at his cute face, and warm eyes. His hands rubbed her’s softly “I’ll be more careful next time, for you.” Weiss hugged his fame, broad shoulders and feeling his locks tickle her forehead lovingly. He was too cute to stay mad at.
“Trust me, I tried asking the guards at the front entrance to let me in, but I had the door slam on me.” He chuckled, rubbing his button nose, implying the door slammed against it.
Weiss rolled her eyes and laughed a bit. “Yeah, unless you’re dressed in clothing that costed half your income, the guards won’t let you in, period.” Weiss could faintly remember that she overheard Atlas rich folk brag about how their accessories alone cost close to a million. So gosh and ridiculous.
(Y/n) chuckled a bit, showing his faint smile which in turn made Weiss smile too.
“Man, I love it when you get cute and sassy when it’s not at my expense.” He teased. Weiss pouted and push him away lighty, jokingly. “Actually you know what? I’m having you sleep on my bedroom floor tonight!” She proudly puffed up her chest, going to her small washing station to freshen up before bed.
“Hey! wait, wait, wait!” (Y/n) followed suite after her, having the door close in front of his face. Weiss gave him the snarky cold shoulder, no reply.
“You were gonna let me spend the night with you???”he asked, desperate and confused
“And then we were gonna cuddle up together?!” Bless him. Weiss might’ve changed her mind after that.
She’s not that cold.
As far as your willow example goes, it’s possible she didn’t want to run the company and give it to Jacques back before she learned what’s prick he was. We aren’t really given a lot of indicators as to whether or not she has any affinity for or interest in running the SDC.
gently: no.
And so entered Jacques Gelè. Having married into the family, Jacques decided to take the Schnee name over his own. He was... a lot of words I shouldn't repeat. But most importantly, he was a cunning businessman. Jacques managed to convince Nicholas that he was the perfect man to run the SDC in his place.
i know its trendy these days to be like “unreliable narrators show! everything the characters say is meaningless!” but the text does actually matter and there are specific techniques the narrative uses to help the viewer sort out what’s reliable information and what isn’t. the most important of those techniques are 1. conflicting perspectives from different characters (eg: like ten answers to “what does salem want?”) and 2. statements contradicted by on-screen action (eg: “summer rose telling lies! first time for everything” vs summer’s well-practiced emotional masking).
neither of those techniques, nor any of the smaller ones, are used with regard to the SDC: everything weiss says about her father and the company adds up with the narrative presented in WOR. everything we know about jacques’ behavior and about willow lines up too. there’s no reason to be skeptical of the events described in the WOR episode, which is completely unambiguous about this discussion having been between nicholas and his (future/current depending on how long the persuasion lasted) son-in-law.
if willow had been meaningfully involved she would have been mentioned at all. you don’t even need to establish what her name is, if it’s too cumbersome to introduce her properly: you’ve just explained that jacques married in to the schnee family so you just say “jacques managed to convince his wife and nicholas that he was the perfect man to run the SDC” or leave nicholas out altogether if you want to suggest that willow is the one whom he tricked. there is no reason to exclude her from this narrative if she had a say in the decision to sign over her inheritance to jacques.
given that she’s also clearly had combat training but has never at any point been described as a retired huntress, and that we know nicholas was himself a warrior who personally escorted deliveries around the world? the implication there is that willow was training to follow in her father’s footsteps before her fiancé/husband convinced nicholas to leave the company to him instead.
add on that jacques does the exact same thing to both his daughters, in weiss’ case going as far as apparently spinning it like she chose to relinquish her claim to the company willingly? (with zero repercussions, implying that whatever he did was legal and there wasn’t anything weiss could do even with ironwood’s help—remember that jacques was running an election campaign in v7, if weiss could’ve returned to atlas and gone public about her father committing fraud to force her out of the company and imprisoning her at home, she undoubtedly would have had ironwood’s full support.)
like the most charitable reading of nicholas here is that jacques straight up lied to him, or forged nicholas’ signature, but that requires willow to have basically no agency (why wouldn’t she question this? why wouldn’t she kick up a fuss if jacques literally stole her inheritance against both her and her father’s will?—we know from weiss that willow didn’t shatter until weiss was ten, the way willow is in the present isn’t reflective of who she was 25+ years ago when all this happened)
it’s a lot simpler to take the text at face value that nicholas disinherited his own daughter because his son-in-law talked him into it.
What I expect to see during the new Vacuo Arc
Okay, so these are some ideas of what I hope to see. These are personal predictions and wishes for what could happen.
Again, these are just my ideas. I'm saying that these things might happen, I'm not saying they necessarily will.
Role for the SDC.
The SDC still seems to have facilities and resources. Remember these SDC facilities in Vacuo? They also probably have refineries in Mistral, as well as mines.
It's even possible that there are Dust mines in Vacuo. Think about it, at the crown bunker, the southern tunnel had collapsed and that made the Dust not fully extracted.
It could be that there were other mines which had collapsed and therefore not all of their Dust had been fully extracted. "Cheap labor, dangerous working conditions, doing whatever it takes to destroy the competition, Jacques Schnee doesn't care about people."
Why would Vacuo let the SDC mine that Dust? Look, they're in times of need, it's possible that Vacuo lets that Dust be mined because Remnant's forces need it. What's better? Leaving that Dust buried in the ground, or having Vacuo's huntsmen and police get that Dust? If the Vacuans are rational, they'll allow it.
There's also Mistral. Again, Mistral will continue to allow SDC activity because that's what's needed. Someone needs to mine and refine the Dust.
2.-The Crown dividing Vacuo.
The Crown is made up of ultra-nationalist Vacuans who want revenge against the world as well as restore the monarchy. Right now Vacuo has 2 refugee crises, some coming from Atlas and others from Vale. Under these circumstances it is likely that many are angry at having to share their resources with people from other kingdoms. Vale and Vacuo are fine. But the Atlesians used to colonize Vacuo.
It is possible that Jax will even accuse the refugees of being colonizers. Do you remember the international fleet over Vacuo? Jax would accuse this of being an occupation.
Jax might even blame Ruby and her group for being responsible for this crisis. (I'm not going to argue about whether that's the case or not, let's leave that for later.)
What's more, if the SDC continues mining in Vacuo, Jax might be able to motivate the workers to strike and such. Against the Schnees, I mean.
Salem's Criminal Allies
"It'll be hard to hire thieves and scoundrels to fight against other thieves and scoundrels."
Qrow said that it would be hard to hire thieves and scoundrels to fight against that very thing.
"And while there was a thriving criminal element, it wouldn't be particularly welcoming to a newcomer" It is mentioned that Vacuo has a thriving criminal element.
While Qrow was doubtful that thieves and scoundrels would be hired, in this case Jax can simply mind control them to unify them and have them fight against the Remnant alliance.
And, do you know who is also a criminal and is an ally of Salem? Vermillion Raddock. He is the leader of Hana Guild.
Salem could use Vermillion Raddock to fight against Mistral's forces. Salem simply has to promise the Hana Guild a place in his new world.
Criminal War
There might be criminals who decide to side with the Remnant Alliance. You know, Salem is a threat to everyone.
Who could join? Spider, Branwen tribe, the Xiong family and the White Fang.
They are characters that I like. Lil Miss Malachite and her daughters are quite charismatic. It wouldn't seem strange to me if they wanted to defeat Salem, she and her Grimm could be a threat to the interests of the criminal organization. We got a spin off where they were a central point, I doubt the writers would just throw them away.
The Branwen tribe. Well, since their leader redeemed himself, it could be that Raven leads them in a crusade against Salem.
The Xiong family. As well as Oobleck and Port, it could be that Junior survived, he and his criminal organization.
Regarding the White Fang. Most likely Adam didn't kill them all. There are probably remnants of the organization. I would like to see Banesaw, Perry and Deery lead the organization now and redeem themselves to fight Salem.
Overall, I'm expecting a big battle of armies. The Crown and its army (and Salem and his minions), along with multiple criminal gangs against the Remnant Alliance and some criminal groups.
Advice For The Heartbroken
: Oh? Hello, Jaune.
Jaune: Hello, Mrs... Miss Schnee. I'd offer my condolences, but I don't think you'd truly care for that.
Willow: No, not at all.
Jaune: I will say you are looking better; you, and this house seems more lively. Like a new wave of fresh air has blown in.
Willow: Yes, the oppressive aura that, Jacques carried about him has been lifted, bringing new life to my family, and house. Speaking of looking better; I must say I like your new outfit; Is that a, Specialist uniform?
Jaune: Ahh... yes... Yes it is. I recently became a member of the, Specialist as of, Winter's recommendations.
Willow: Oh congratulations, Jaune! That uniform suit you perfectly.
Jaune: Thank you, Miss Schnee.
Willow: Please, Jaune I already told you, you can call me, Willow. No more of this, Miss Schnee business.
Jaune: Alright then... Willow...
Willow: See, that wasn't too hard. Now then, please take a seat, I assume you're here not because of your new position. Perhaps about the odd circumstances around, Jacques's suspicious death?
Jaune: Thank you... and, uhhh no. I'm not aware of anything in regards to, Jacques's death, and the investigation. I'm a, Huntsman, not a detective.
Willow: Thought I should ask; Winter is unable to tell me anything. Something about the: 'Confidentiality pertaining to the ongoing investigation pertaining to the suspicious death of, Jacques Schnee.'
Jaune: In essence: No.
Willow: Precisely~!
Willow: Now then, since you are not here to talk about, Jacques death, what can I help you with, Jaune?
Jaune: Well... Since you mentioned, Winter... I need some help with her...
Willow: Oh, what is wrong? Did my daughter do something to you?
Jaune: Uhhh... kinda...?
Willow: Kinda... what?
Jaune: Winter likes me...
Willow: So? You are a well mannered, polite, respectable young man. There is very little to hate about you, Jaune. So of course she likes you.
Jaune: Uhhh... no, not that... Winter likes me... As in, like-likes me...
Willow: ...
Willow: S-Seriously...?
Jaune: She's blushed in front of me. She's laughed with me, not at me. She's smiled at me. She gave me this sash on my waist. And, I swear on my mother's life; she winked, and said 'tee-hee' at me!
Willow: Holy shit... Winter does like-like you... I can't believe this...
Jaune: Neither can I.
Willow: I picked a wrong time to stop drinking...
Willow: Okay... you have my permission.
Jaune: ...
Jaune: Wha...?
Willow: You have permission to date my daughter.
Jaune: Oh... thank you... B-But, that isn't why I'm here... kinda...?
Willow: Oh? Then what is it, Jaune?
Jaune: I have... absolutely no experience when it comes to romance. If you ask, Weiss about my attempts to, 'whoo' her, you'd whinge in shame at my antics...
Willow: Yes, I do believe I remember hearing, Weiss complaining about that.
Jaune: ...
Jaune: I... I like, Winter... I'm not entirely sure how much I care for her, but I know I do care for, Winter... If there is a possibility of us having a relationship, I want to try... I don't want to miss this chance... not again... So, I came to you to... ask for advice.
Willow: Advice? Why me, couldn't you ask one of your friends for advice?
Jaune: Ha! Ruby has no experience when it comes to love. Weiss, has poor taste in men, and we have that whole history together, not to mention it's about her sister! I can't possibly talk about this with her.
Willow: That would be an ill-advised endeavor to take.
Jaune: Nora, and Ren are out of the question. Nora is pinning for, Ren so hard she might as well become a pine tree. And, people call me dense?! They should take a look at, Ren! A woman is literally fawning over him, and he doesn't see a damn thing!
Willow: Oh, she liked him, I never notice...
Jaune: Don't even get me started on, Blake, and Yang's thing.
Willow: Oh please do, I do love gossip~!
Jaune: Oh, that's right, woman love to gossip; My mother, and sisters love to gossip too.
Jaune: Okay... Blake, and Yang are stuck in this will they won't they situation upon which I don't think they should, because dating, Blake would end up being a part of a very toxic relationship. I mean... Blake is a coward, she has a habit of running away from her problems, and dumping them on others, and refusing to take the blame. Not to mention her past dating experience is horrible! Her first lover was Adam Taurus! A psychotic race supremist terrorist! And, a fanatical lesbian who like, Adam, tried to kill her! Twice!
Willow: Oh~? Now isn't this juicy~!
Jaune: Yang has abandonment issues! Her mother abandoned her when she was a child! It would destroy her if, Blake ran away, again! My sister is a lesbian who is married. and in a loving relationship. I told them about, Blake, and Yang, and they looked horrified at the thought of the two of them dating. Not, because its a human, and faunas relationship, because they know how toxic it could be!
Willow: Oh my~! Even the lesbians are looking down on them~! Now things are getting interesting~!
Jaune: Since I don't get involved in their conversations, I just observe. And, I don't like what I'm seeing... Is there a chance they get together, yes. Is there a chance it will be a healthy relationship, maybe... But, I wouldn't bet money on it.
Willow: Ohh~! It's so much fun hearing all the juicy gossip! I feel like I'm a teenager again~!
Jaune: So... I said, I have no experience with dating, so I've come to you for advice. I know you had a toxic relationship with your ex-husband...
Willow: That's an understatement...
Jaune: But, even before that there must have been moments that were happy? Or, the very least you can tell me the does, and don'ts of a relationship. Mostly the don'ts all thing considered...
Willow: ...
Jaune: I know you didn't have a good relationship... But, of everyone I know... You're the only one I can ask.
Willow: Couldn't you ask your sister? She's married after all.
Jaune: Yeah, I could ask my sister how she got together with her wife, but...
Willow: She has no idea how it happened?
Jaune: No clue whatsoever.
Willow: So you came to me for advice.
Jaune: Yeah, I did.
Willow: Listen, Jaune... I do not understand my daughter well enough to give you advice when it comes to having a relationship with her. I estranged myself from my children when I escaped, Jacque's abuse to the bottle. I am in the middle of trying to rebuild our relationship. I'm learning who my children are, and plan to become. So, I can't tell you what you could do to enter a relationship with her... But, if what you said is true, that if you're making my daughter laugh, and smile. Then you should be together, or at the very least, give it a chance. And, don't regret not taking the chance.
Jaune: ...
Jaune: I don't want to lose that chance again...
Willow: Again?
Jaune: Okay... for now I'll just play it by ear, and see where it will take me... hopefully somewhere nice... Thank you, Willow.
Willow: My pleasure, Jaune. I hope the best for you two. I wouldn't mind you becoming my son in law.
Jaune: O-Oh... Thank you... Now, I best get going there is work to be done.
Willow: Do, Say hello to, Whitely before you leave. He's been wanting to talk to you again.
Jaune: Oh? I'll go do that. Goodbye, Willow.
Willow: Goodbye, Jaune.
Willow: ...
Willow: I wish you the best of luck, Jaune...
(10/05/24) - V3E3: The Relationship Growth of Ruby and Weiss and the Dichotomy between Jacques and Winter Schnee
Hello to all my RWBY oomfs, and today, I’m doing a scene analysis of a clip from V3, E3, “It’s Brawl in the Family,” the episode where Qrow and Winter fight. While that fight is amazing and I love it, it is not the focus of this thread. Rather, I will be discussing the scene where Ruby and Weiss meet Winter. This scene had some little moments that I did not pick up on my first watch of the show about a year ago (yes, I am a much newer member of the FNDM), but upon a rewatch, I noticed a few key things I wanted to discuss, namely about the relationship between Weiss and Winter, as well as how the relationship between Weiss and Ruby has developed. This analysis will be relatively long, so I have decided to type this up in a Google Doc and post screenshots to Twitter with a brief summary in each tweet, in addition to the blog being on Tumblr. Whatever format you feel most comfortable with reading. This discussion does not work for a normal Twitter thread, so yeah. Let me know if you enjoy this format, and if not, I will make sure to try something different in the future.
The scene starts with Winter exiting her airship, flanked by Atlesian soldiers. The first noticeable part of this scene to me is the reaction from Weiss. Normally up to this point, we have seen Weiss as this prim and proper heiress. Everything to her has been about maintaining a sort of “mask” in public, where she only lets her guard down around those she is close to (which up to this point, is really only Team RWBY). She maintains a certain distance or haughtiness towards most others, especially around strangers. However, when she sees Winter has arrived, not only do we see a warm, genuine smile on Weiss’ face, which up to this point is a rarity…
What is even more rare than this is what happens after. Weiss at first gently says, “Winter…” before she then shouts her name again and runs towards her in open jubilation. To see Weiss openly display her happiness and emotions like this, especially in a public setting like this, is remarkable. And we can evidently see how surprising this is in Ruby’s expression. Ruby, the person who has consistently tried to earn Weiss’ approval and affection (with fluctuating degrees of success) and repeatedly claims to be Weiss’ “BFF” is utterly stunned at Weiss acting like this.
Her eyebrows are raised, her eyes are widened, and her mouth is agape. While Ruby knew that Weiss admired her sister, this scene to me shows Ruby an entirely different side of her partner. The more child-like, affectionate side of her, to where she drops her guard completely and just acts like a goofy little sister instead of a prideful heiress. However, to Ruby’s credit, she takes this shocking development in stride, and runs right after Weiss to meet Winter.
Now, here comes the main crux of this scene for me: the interaction between Weiss, Ruby, and Winter. Winter begins the conversation by asking how Weiss has been. In typical Beacon Weiss fashion, we see her smug aura activate and she begins gloating with practiced and complete ease. She is top of the sparring class, and all her studies are going well for her. Her posture seems entirely relaxed during this, and she is practically beaming as she’s bragging to her sister. Not anything like I would expect her to act if she was mentioning her accomplishments to her father, that's for sure.
Unfortunately for her, this is not what Winter wanted to hear, and she gives Weiss a good old fashioned bonk, which is strong enough to give her a nice old lump on the head. Now, when I was first watching this a year ago, my first reaction was one of sadness and a bit of anger, because it seemed like Weiss had yet another family member that wasn’t really interested in what was going on in her life, but only how it affected the Schnee name, like her father. At this point in the series, Weiss was not yet my favorite character, but she WAS incredibly close (in fact, the conversation and summoning scene with Winter not long after this was where Weiss was cemented as my favorite forever), so to see this at first was upsetting.
However, very quickly after this, we see that this initial reaction is vastly incorrect. Winter was not bonking Weiss out of a disinterest or cruelty. She was not asking “how have you been” like it was cheap small talk at some gala like her father would, and she was not bonking her for not maintaining a composed appearance and being a braggart, which I could also see her father scathing her for.
No, Winter bonked her because Weiss misunderstood her question. We see this with the following line: “I don’t recall asking about your ranking… I recall asking how you’ve been. Are you eating properly, have you taken up any hobbies, are you making new friends?” We then see Winter give Weiss a small but genuine warm smile. It is small but it IS there, like a more subdued version of the one from Weiss which began the scene.
This shows that Winter is not really interested in how Weiss can benefit the SDC or the Schnees professionally, but shows that she is instead interested in her personally as her big sister. She is treating Weiss like a little sister instead of an object. While it may be fair to say that Winter is not treating Weiss as a true equal in this scene, it is more of a mentor/student and big sister/little sister dynamic instead of Winter truly treating her as an inferior, like her father would. It is a dynamic built around affection, not manipulation. Winter values her feelings and how she is doing… even if she has to do so in her own way because she’s still in public. Now, enough of the differences between Winter and Jacques for now. We should return to Ruby in this scene, since she hasn’t been mentioned in a while. Despite Weiss’ constant protests against Ruby claiming to be her BFF, Weiss instantly replies to Winter’s question about making friends: “Well, there’s Ruby.”
No hesitation. No shakiness in her voice. Weiss says it immediately and confidently. It may be just because Ruby is right there at that very moment, but I personally don’t see it that way. Weiss has spent so long up to this point trying to distance herself from others or putting up a haughty facade, but here, I think we see a glimpse of the truth. Weiss doesn't say, "oh, I haven't really met anyone I can tolerate," or "yeah, there was this Neptune guy at the dance that I like." She mentions Ruby. Weiss does genuinely see Ruby as her friend at this point and motions to her as such with a smile on her face. This, in turn, elicits a big goofy smile on Ruby’s face as well, creating a nice, warm scene.
In addition, we get to see Ruby’s tendency to be affectionate with touch here. Ruby gently moves to push down the bonk bump on Weiss’ head. Weiss sees this and acknowledges it with a neutral expression, but does not do anything to stop Ruby from doing so. This to me represents a major shift from V1-2 Weiss to V3 Weiss. Early Beacon Weiss would show dismay or outright horror at the thought of Ruby touching her. The best example of this is in the gag scene in V2 after Weiss loses the board game, where Ruby and Weiss hug and Weiss says the famous “SHUT UP, DON’T TOUCH ME!” line. However, Weiss makes no effort to even pretend like she minds Ruby touching her. She accepts it. For someone as sharp-tongued and brutally honest as Beacon era Weiss, to me, her saying nothing at all speaks louder than most words ever could.
Ah… now comes the best damn part of this entire scene, and the main reason I made this thread: Weiss’ reaction to being touched. Ruby pushes down the bump on Weiss’ head, and this is where the neutral expression of hers fades. It is instead replaced by Weiss closing her eyes and smiling. I think you can have a lot of interpretations in regards to this scene from Weiss. You could say it is embarrassment. You could say it is happiness. You could say it is awkwardness.
Me personally? I say it is a mix of all three. To me, this is one of the earliest signs of the viewer seeing Weiss for who she truly is: the adorkable cinnamon roll that we all know and love. If you just showed the above picture to someone who knew nothing about RWBY and asked them who the silly one in the scene would be, they probably couldn’t answer you with confidence because they BOTH look like absolute dorks. As RWBY fans, we obviously know at this point that one character is way more of a dork than the other, but here, we see Weiss’ facade fade, if but for a moment, and see the dork underneath her exterior come out. However, I do think there is another layer to this scene besides the relationship growth between Weiss and Ruby. While this warm scene by itself would be meaningful to me, I think what makes it actually important is where it happened: in front of Winter. The woman who, at the very least, is Weiss’ most important mentor, and at most, is someone that Weiss outright idolizes (to be honest, I fall more on the latter side of that dichotomy, but think that Weiss tries to downplay it a bit more due to wanting to maintain her pride in public. On the inside, I think Weiss is a total Winter fangirl and we see this slip at points, like her defending Winter after Ruby says Qrow kicked her butt.)
I think it’s significant Weiss lets her guard down around Ruby here because of how much she values Winter’s opinion of her. What Winter thinks of her means a lot to Weiss. So… when Weiss says Ruby is her friend and lets Ruby act like a dork with her, it’s like Weiss is saying to Winter: “I trust her. I feel safe around her. I have grown to like her in ways I didn’t expect. Perhaps we aren’t so different after all. Your first impression of her may not be the best, but I promise you that this is someone I have grown to see as a friend. So yes, to answer your question: I am doing well, and I am making new friends.”
I doubt it needs to be said, but this also shows yet another major difference between Winter and Jacques. Jacques would not even remotely care about Weiss making friends, unless they could benefit the Schnee Dust Company. He would find Ruby’s behavior and dorkiness utterly repulsive, and he would berate Weiss for acting like a fool, especially in a public setting. Winter, on the other hand, does not care, and instead decides to quip Ruby by saying she is “appropriately… underwhelming.” We openly see later on how much Winter genuinely does love and care for Weiss, but we can see great hints of it in this scene that can definitely go unnoticed on a first watch.
However, this is not a malicious statement from Winter, but rather one meant to fluster Ruby (which works very well as Ruby responds with a very half-hearted and sheepish “thank you”). Winter shows how she truly feels about the relationship between the two right after when she says, “I wish to thank you for taking an interest in my sister.” Even if she may not personally care for Ruby, she can tell from the little bit of mannerisms and interaction between the two that this is someone Weiss has grown to care about and see as a friend. Her fears are assuaged: Weiss will be just fine at Beacon, because she has people there to care for her and help support her.
And of course, we get to end this nice and wholesome scene that has a lot you can take from it in the span of like, 30 seconds, with Ruby acting like a complete and total fool trying to impress Winter. She does a little curtsy and then almost trips over her own feet. Typical Ruby! But, again, I think even this small gag moment can show something interesting, because it shows that Ruby also cares about how Winter perceives her. There are two parts to this, in my opinion: Ruby may to some extent care about Winter’s opinion directly, but more likely, I think that she wants to impress her since she is Weiss’ sister. Even though she humiliates herself, she doesn’t care because it’s worth trying to impress someone very important to Weiss… because Weiss has become very important to her. If you have made it this far, thank you for reading. To be honest, when I had the thought of doing this discussion of this scene, I figured it would be a bit long. This long, however, was a surprise to even me. It took me about 50 minutes to type all of this up while listening to random video game OSTs on Spotify, so I hope you enjoyed the read! Look forward to more in the future. I would also love if any of you guys had a specific WR or Weiss scene you would like analyzed from the first 3 volumes. You can request me to do so, and I happily would. You can even make requests not related to them; it's just that those two topics are my bread and butter. Because I have not finished V3 on my rewatch, I feel I would be much worse at analyzing scenes from V4 onwards, so for now, I would only like to analyze Beacon moments. Thank you! Long live Weiss Schnee and the glorious White Rose. While I am a multishipper and not a toxic shipper by any means, this pairing is definitely one of my all-time favorites, as evidenced by how much I am able to gush about it. I hope you enjoyed my ramblings. That, and the fact these are three of my favorite characters in the entire show helps. Let me know if you have any thoughts on this scene! (And right as I finish typing this up, “Winter’s Gift” from the V8 OST comes on Youtube mix! What are the chances!)
Schnee Family Dinner
Ruby: Wow! Thanks for inviting us over for dinner, Weiss!
Weiss: Actually, it was my brother's idea.
Whitley: I felt it prudent to host this dinner to dispel any rumors that may be circulating about our family. We are a completely normal family. Isn't that right, father?
Jacques: I don't beat my son.
Ruby: ...Well, I'm convinced.
Whitley: Weiss, why don't you introduce your friends?
Weiss: Of course. This is Ruby.
Ruby: Hi~!
Weiss: And over there is Yang.
Yang: We're not friends. I'm just here for the food.
Weiss: And Blake is... somewhere.
--------------------------------------------------
Klein: (In full plate armor) By the honor of the name Schnee, YOU SHALL NOT HAVE THIS FISH!
Blake:
--------------------------------------------------
Whitley: Well, I am Whitley Schnee. And you've already met our eldest sister, Winter.
Winter: (Triggered)
Ruby: Oh, yeah! And don't you have a twin sister, Weiss?
Weiss: Oh, you mean Blei-
Jacques: I told you not to MENTION THAT DAMN DEGENERATE!
Weiss: ...Apologies, father.
Whitley: Ah... W-Well, let us eat~!
Ruby: So, uh, where's your mom, Weiss?
Weiss: M-My mother? She's-
Willow: (Distant) AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!
Jacques: ...She's in her room.
Ruby: ...Wow, this fried chicken is great, Whitley~!
Im sorry, but Jaune stans have really delicate feelings... Adam and Ironwood stans have had way more horrible words flung to them, both Bumbleby and Blacksun shippers too... It's sadly just the normal behavior of the FNDM. I feel bad that Jaune stans are receiving punches too, but they really act like it's the end of the world and like haters have kicked them in the gut. This is normal. Welcome to the actual experience in the RWBY FNDM!
I have to agree as well. I know that there are some good Jaune fans out there that understand that Jaune is poorly written as a character same with those in the Ironwood and Adam camps as well. These three characters in particular all lacked something when being written. Which I think for Adam and Ironwood fans held up firmly while Jaune stans just need to see that Jaune is poorly written... and not a good character.
For Jaune his poorly written status are in line with his lack of accountability, how the writers mostly Miles and Kerry treat him like a self-insert, and lastly poorly-done and pretty generic Semblance and allusion. What he lacks in accountability and responsibility, more respect towards his historical allusion, lastly, not being treated as a "Nice Guy" self-insert character.
Adam was VICTIM of racism even his bio on the now defunct Amity Arena mobile game even supports this. Yet people want to call him abusive or a PDFile because.
The Writers didnt know what to do with him. (Once again, fuck you Miles and Kerry.)
We still have no official confirmation about his age, despite A/rryn Z/ech claiming that he's in his twenties. Once more. Voice Actors dont write the show.
Instead of that. It would have been best to see how racism towards the faunus affected Adam when he was younger, since he has the Schnee Dust Company brand on his eye. Another thing would be to reinforce the student-master relationship and thats it. Nothing romantic between Blake and Adam just a student and master stuff that is all. T
he fact that we could have seen him at first glance hesitant to help humans after the Haven Academy attack because of his morals when he is exiled by the White Fang's council and a new High Leader. While at the same time revealing why he does not trust humans.
Not to mention making him a key-player in the downfall of Jacques Schnee alongside Blake, Weiss, and Winter. Most important of all for that specific arc being that he could see that both Faunus and Humans in Mantle suffer underneath Atlas and the corporations that live up there.
Ironwood just like Adam felt like wasted potential as well for lack of development and no exploration about his past at all. Just suddenly revealing that: "Oh he was evil all along" instead of understanding that he is in a position of leadership and doing what he can while also letting the stress of that position get to him.
We should have gotten the reveal on what happened to half of his body, why he is so focused on maintaining order to better fit the Tin Man allusion, and developing around him to the point where he reveals a kinder side to him. Showing that he has a heart.
Lastly, his semblance not being an ableist allusion for ADHD, which is on the spectrum by the way. Instead why couldn't it have been powered up shots depending on which gun he is using.
God thats another thing I want to touch on. As someone who ships Blacksun as well, I feel very sorry for the peeps who shipped Blacksun a lot, even to the point when BB did become canon that they may have insults flinged at them especially in their ask boxes anonymously. Which I also feel sorry for any BB fans who wanted a natural confession instead of the forced one they got in Volume Nine and perhaps in some case wanting Blacksun or Sunnybees (basically Polyamrous Blacksun and BB) .
To end this.
Abandon All Hope Ye Who Enter The RWBY FNDM For if you disagree with what the FNDM says, thou shalt be shamed for it.
You want to clarify by what you mean by "punished for being racist"?
Because almost everyone you mentioned either changed their ways or, you know, died.
Was it because no one said "You died because you were a racist" rather than "you died because you were a horrible human being in general"?
I'll say it again: I'm talking specifically about fanfiction and the fanbase's response to canon. Not the show itself.
When I say punished for being racist I mean facing consequences that come specifically as a response to them being racist.
No other character in RWBY who has been explicitly racist gets treated like Team CRDL does by the fandom. All CRDL did was bully Velvet and made a stupid comment in class.They get dragged through the mud 24/7.
Meanwhile
Roman Torchwick: Called faunus animals and Blake kitty
Weiss: Racial profiling. "Those Faunus only know how to lie, cheat, and steal"
Jacques Schnee: His company branded Adam. Only faunus at his party were servants or military guests
Robyn Hill: Calls Marrow "Wags" because of his faunus trait.
"I hate racists and bigots.....unless it's my favorite characters then it's okay and I'm gonna ignore it."
I don't like nor hate CRDL. They're barely characters. I just want people to keep that same energy across the board. If you hate racism then call everyone out on it or be quiet.
