had a dream that there was a secret, fourth mounted head except it was hidden because it was deemed "too scary" for the attraction and didn't fit with max, buff and melvin. rumour had it that it was hidden where teddi's swing comes down and/or somewhere only the bears could see it. sad to report I woke up before the head was discovered.

As you exit the Heffalumps and Woozles room in The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh at Disneyland, take a look behind you to find Max, Buff, and Melvin from The Country Bear Jamboree! The Country Bears used to perform in this same location until 2001 when Pooh took over

i have to share this since this will forever be a favorite memory of mine till the day i die.

picture this, you wake up at 6am on a somewhat muggy january 26th. final day has arrived for walt disney’s country bear jamboree, an opening day attraction for the magic kingdom. you took the day off of work to go see your favorite bears dressed up as teddi barra, definitely not reusing your costume from mickey’s not so scary halloween party.

after going in and out of the attraction more than 30 times and not even stepping foot into any other area of the park, the sun begins to set and it is now reaching 8pm. the rumor was that the theater would remain open until park close, 11pm. you are now walking into your next showing in grizzly hall and take your seat on the right side of the stage. as max, buff, and melvin begin to chatter, henry exclaims “give me a little intro there, gomer!” the tall bear on piano plays his little diddy. it is now time for the show to start, so henry’s curtain opens. but wait. you watched the show many a times. even before henry speaks, you always notice his paw hit the curtain. but this time was different. there was no pawing at the curtain. it opens and to your surprise, poor henry is t-posing and not moving a muscle.

“NOOOOOOO HENRY!!!” you yell out as everyone is losing their minds. (yes, in the video, that is me screaming)

the show continues, a stuck romeo is also in kahoots with henry #1. as you are leaving the theater and signaling your group to hop in line again. you get an uneasy feeling in your tummy and start to worry about what will happen next. surely this was just something minor and it’ll be fixed soon, right?

it doesn’t.

the line doesn’t move for the next 3 hours. you are now waiting at the back of line, assuming if the show did start up again, you would be watching the last show of the night for guests. then people start whipping out their phones and seeing what people from the front of the line are talking about. henry and romeo have malfunctioned to the point of no return and there will be no shows for the rest of the night.

“wait… so that was it? did we really just see the last ever show at 8pm and we didn’t even know it” you ask yourself as you’re slowly walking down the path. mind you the line was so long it extended in adventureland. as you get to the theater, cast members are explaining to the guests that we are allowed to take pictures of the empty theater but it would be a closed casket viewing (artistic rendition) and at the end of it, all guests in line would be able to receive the D23 exclusive country bear musical jamboree poster and a fast pass for the next day.

at this point you are absolutely sobbing your eyes out, you barely got into the bears in august when you first moved to florida and now they’re gone. well, practicing a new show but regardless. how can your day get any worse?

next day you get told you are on temporary probation from work, your blue disney ID and main entrance pass have been taken away since you are being accused of stealing trash.

then a week later you get officially fired from the walt disney company and are stranded for another week in florida with no money ok the end bai baiiiii

When I went in May of 2023, I got to see, for the last time, Bear Country Jamboree. Oddly enough, my favorite thing wasn't a bear, but the trophy mounts, Melvin, Buff and Max.

Max the deer, Buff the buffalo and Melvin the moose are still hanging around at Disneyland! These lovable lugs were the Masters of Ceremonies for the Bear Country Jamboree, which used to be housed in the same location. Now, they’re watching over Pooh Bear. What I love about this article isn’t the pessimism over Tomorrowland actually getting an overhaul (although at this point I assume it will become a “World Retro” or “World Hope” in the vein of what Epcot is getting, or “World Mish-Mosh” in reference to it being a land without a singular theme anymore).

It’s the fact that they say that Tomorrowland “still bears ghostly remnants of old, abandoned rides such as the overhead tracks of the PeopleMover, which closed in 1995. The tracks were briefly used for the ill-fated Rocket Rods attraction in the late ’90s.”

It’s still the PeopleMover track. Not the Rocket Rods track. Even though they came in between, the PeopleMover had them first, and for much, much longer. I don’t look at those old areas and say “Look, it’s the old Rocket Rod track.” I call it “the old PeopleMover track.”

And while I do wish the PeopleMover could return, and while I doubt immensely that it will ever happen (even if they did it, it wouldn’t be a huge draw for most people; it would just be “that ride in Tomorrowland with the always-short line”), I kind of like being able to still see the track winding through Tomorrowland.

It’s a memory of what once was (like the Eeyore parking lot sign in the Temple of the Forbidden Eye, or Max, Buff, and Melvin still being in what is now the home of the Winnie the Pooh attraction), and it’s part of the overall architectural look of Tomorrowland, even if it now lacks its former kinetic energy.

The Country Bears' Hollerin' Holler!

OK, this is the ultimate ride for ya boy. Take goddamn Popeye & Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barges and put some WATER GUNS on the raft and some fucking COUNTRY BEARS on the path!

It's summer in the holler and, boy, are our beloved Bears feeling the heat! The whole gang wants to meet down at the swimmin' hole for party, but each have little tasks to do in order to make it in time. It's up to you and your friends to get in a raft and help them bears!

So, initially, I was thinking it'd be full-on MIB: Alien Attack with scores and everything but now I'm thinking it's like Monsters Inc: Ride and Seek. It's more about activating things to feel a part of the story than it is about competing.

Now, I don't know if it needs to be this rigid but I see each Bear in each show scene having two results when interacted with. 1: You shoot something that activates a Rube Goldberg-esque mechanism that helps them with whatever little task they need, 2. You shoot the "wrong" thing which activates a different Rube Goldberg-esque that causes WATER TO SPLASH AT YOU! Whoopsie! Now, with, what, 8 people on the raft, it's likely you'll activate both, so, it's not quite a pass/fail situation. Just 2 things that can happen! Watch out!

And this fuckin thing is lousy with bears. It's all of em! Zeke, Zeb, Ted, Fred, Tennessee, Baby Oscar, Gomer, Henry, Wendell, Terrance, Big Al, Liverlips. Trixie, Ernest, Teddi Berra, Bubbles, Bunny, Beulah...y'know, the bears! Plus the non-bear and expanded universe characters like Sammy the raccoon, Randy the skunk, Terrance's octopus girlfriend, the penguin Terrance hangs out with in the XMAS overlay, Rufus, who is probably a bear but we never see, Max, Buff and Melvin (who should be the "practice portion" at the start of the ride) hanging up and then a horde of NEW BEARS! Liverlips' wife and kids! A Panda in a cowboy hat and Bolo tie! A bear that reads Canadian! A polar bear in a Hawaiian shirt! It's a family reunion! A single Goth teen bear on their smartphone! Probably some possums in there. Listen, I'm thinking fairly simple animatronics, here, not the Shaman of songs level. Realistically, not even as articulate as the OG bears, just enough movement to get the point of each thing across. Y'know, Bilge-Rat Barges steez! But WAY more than what's on the Popeye Ride. Conservatively? 70 bears. Some can be repeats, like the story has advanced, that's fine, they don't all have to be entirely unique. But there's a buncha different bears, ok?

Now, the show scenes are fairly dense and on each side, so that no matter where on the raft you are, you can shoot at something. But it's still a water rapids ride, so there's gonna be some twists and turns that are less about shooting and more about taking in the thrills, baby!

Ok, some technical bs, it's a water gun but it's not a hose. it's not a constant stream, it's little bursts so you can't just spray it everywhere, accuracy is still rewarded! Maybe the gun can only go so low so you can't shoot the folks on your raft....nah, screw it, you're on a water ride, you're getting wet! Shoot whoever!

Ok, ok, you want to know more bout the little tasks and animations! Fine! I'll admit, I haven't put as much thought into the individual things but just so the idea is clear; Henry is trying to find Sammy, there's a trash can, you might assume the raccoon is in there so you shoot it, it wobbles and falls and knocks over a big bucket of water on you! If you shoot Henry's top hat, however, it falls off and Sammy is underneath! Another example: Big Al is trying to get the blood stains of his saddle, you shoot the saddle, it causes it to spin around knock over a ladder Wendall is on who hangs onto a rope for dear life but that pulls down, well, a big bucket of water to dump on Al and the saddle and it's clean now! If you shoot the washboard in the bucket near by, that'll play a washboard sound, Ted will appear, attracted by the washboard sound, carrying a jug, trip and it's contents will spill out onto the raft! Does this make sense??? These are just off the top of head, here folks! Gimme a budget and then we'll really see, y'know?

At one point, Swingin' Teddi Berra is up above the path of the river and has a watering can and drizzles it down on ya as you pass under!

You eventually get to the bottom and it's way less linear and there's just a buncha dang bears in inner tubes that your raft can bounce into and they're like on Kuka arm type structures under the water, so when you bounce off em, it's as though they are are floating freely in this little lagoon area but in reality are contained.

And, of course, the finale is a mini jamboree as you float on by back to the loading carousel! Oh, and the façade/loading area has clothes hanging out to dry on a line. A mix of y'know, bonnets, overalls and like, real-life Disney merch, as if guests who rode the ride today are drying their clothes! Yeah, every day, they change what merch is up there! One day it's a Mandalorian shirt, the next it's Epcot sweatpants, then the next it's Daisy shirt and so on! It's cute!

Okay, let’s start simple:

There are feral cats living in the Disney Parks, or at least Disneyland, to kill mice and rats so Mickey better be careful.

Okay so in Country Bear Jamboree there were these three animatronic mounted heads called Buff, Max, and Melvin and there were also non animatronic versions of them in a restaurant for the show. Again I am unsure if that knowledge applies to other parks beyond Disneyland, at least completely, but when Disneyland’s version closed one of the Max heads was not well treated. Below you can see what happened to it, I have no way of confirming this next part but apparently that head is under Madam Leoda’s room in the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland.

Then a woman who was 150cm wore a pair bc she wanted to be taller on her wedding day. So shoemakers made heels for women that were sensible, and were more sound than those ugly platforms.

After the woman died (her name wa Catherine de Medici btw) it was the end of heels in women’s fashion. The ladies began wearing lower heels, and men back then had a superiority complex and liked to be taller than women so they wore heels to towers over others.
