Gravity Falls x Pjo concepts
Mabel and Dipper see Percy and instantly think they've found a new monster because she's literally a 6' woman with huge ass floofy black blue banged hair that has a white streak and radiates an oceanic aura and is built like a greek warrior goddess and her skin's as dark and beautiful as the night sky when the moon glows-OH.DEMIGODDESS,it was staring them right there in the face!!!Mabel instantly approches her with star eyes mostly because of that and partially because Percy's gender presentation is basically hers if she was punk
"Does the G in Grunkle stand for Gilf?" "T-Tanaka,that is NOT appropriate-" "I ain't hitting on you, oldhead" "Yes Stan,it's very obvious Miss Drew isn't into men-Just look at how she dresses" "BITCH???????????????"
Nico shows Dipper his Mythomagic deck and infodumps about the debunks he found out and Dipper shows Nico the journals and infodumps back about his debunks as parallel play
Hazel and Mabel do an instant besties squee once they get through their first full convo and are attached to the sweater sleeves from then on and make magic friendship bracelets-Hazel's is made out of a washed out rainbow colored frozen unicorn spell that was achived ethically at her request and Mabel's hidden guilt and Mabel's is made out of Mythical Morganite and has pig ears shapes
Bill ressurects Luke through severe reality warping but torments him the whole time to entertain himself and Luke hallucinates Percy and Nico as a cool ranch doritos bag and a black doritos bag and runs away screeching as he pisses himself
Jason goofs off with Soos and Melody as he gets a job at the Mystery Shack and there's a running gag where he keeps mistaking his boss' name for You Know Who Soos Zeus
Pacifica and Piper do weird witch-y shit at her and Mcgucket's mansion to try to get rid of him and Aphrodite who decided to pay a visit to Oregon for a lover up north but end up helping out and accepting them both instead
Frank joins in on Candy and Grenda's girlnanigans(girlshenanigans)as Mabel's busy befriending/being adopted by Percy and then Hazel and Dipper's not an option either because he's doing the same with Nico and he stands in as their boytorturetoy only he loves it and considers it fun self-care.Him and Candy also try out their chinese/korean on eachother and teach a bit and he reassures Grenda her muscle don't lessen her femininity in a cool big bro moment and earned Grenda W
Reyna introduces Robbie to Bad Bunny and it rewires his brain so he starts listening to better music and he gives her a big bag of special jelly beans he stole as a thank you that turn out to be weed gummies but candy/dessert flavored and by the time she comes back from her high she's dating Wendy,Tambry and somehow one of Robbie's e-girl cousin's
Leo being totally lost when he arrives and ends up going on a crazy ass meet and greet adventure across town meeting the supporting cast and it's revealed Wendy has been doing the same at the same time but at Camp Half-Blood because it turns out she's an Aphrodite kid. They eat bacon burgers and agua fresa together and discuss their previous circumstances once it's over
But not before Mabel knits ALL the demigods she met personalized sweaters except for Percy, who gets knit a jumbo sized version of Mabel's musical note sweater <3 Percy in turns makes her a pink battle vest!!

Holly Munro, Magnus Chase, Dante Quintana, Reyna Avila Ramírez-Arellano, Anthony Lockwood
11. favourite extracurricular activity?
singing. no matter where i am or what i’m doing, singing. if it’s me, great. if it’s a singer i’m listening to, amazing. i may not be what’s generically a ‘good’ singer, but as Hozier said; ‘You don’t have to sing it right, who could call you wrong? You put your emptiness to melody, your awful heart to song, you don’t have to sing it nice, but honey sing it strong’ (but if it was another one, I would definitely choose reading: reading is my life)

Sonia's Pick: 'Canción de cuna' von Bernardo Ramírez Ponce
Tumblr media
Hört direkt mal rein: Offizielles Erscheinungsdatum: 25.12.2022 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/track/19V8YH8A1d5PwqKKF6eHA4

“Sure, growing up sucks, but you can make it suck less. Just think of it as the next big adventure! One full of paperwork and scary body changes!”
Next on the Inheritance AU drawing list: Melody! Admittedly she looks basically the same as she did in the show since she was already an adult, so I just tapped into my inner fashion designer. I always felt like she was really underrated, so she plays a much bigger role in the AU.
Some headcanons and AU-relevant deets:
Her full name is Melody Ramírez-Camassia Quamash (the latter part comes from a type of herb native to the pacific northwest).
Her mother, Coral, has traced their family’s lineage back to the Native tribes that lived in the Gravity Falls Valley before they departed northeast in 1200 AD (Mel doesn’t know it yet, but she’s a distant descendant of Modoc the Wise).
She and Soos still got together in the AU, as her name would suggest, but it was a bit more slow-going than in canon; by the time the main story takes place in 2022, they’ve only been married for two years.
She seems to have become more eager for ‘adventure’ with age, hence her jumping at the chance to help the Mystery Twins (and Wendy) with their investigations, in contrast with Soos who’s become more cool-headed and patient.
Bill Cipher calls her ‘Treble Clef’, mostly because of her earrings and it felt clever to him at the time (I headcanon that Bill nicknames everyone like this, not just members of the Zodiac, because he doesn’t respect humans enough to use their actual names). (Also @bluepinetree came up with that :P)

So, I asked my mom to identify names to people in PJO without knowing they’re in PJO. She’s read TLT, watched both movies, and seen the musical. She eventually realized that these were PJO characters and started saying they were demigods. I originally had pictures of each of them but they glitched so every picture was either Percy or Annabeth.
Bold is their actual name. Italics is what my mom said.
Percy Jackson, son of Poseidon
His name is Leon. He is a very social young man, a witty mind, and a quick tongue. He loves to sword fight with his fellow team members, while talking smack about them.
Annabeth Chase, daughter of Athena
Annabeth...she loves to fight!
Jason Grace, son of Jupiter
Luke...not a nice person
Piper McLean, daughter of Aphrodite
Molly...daughter of Nike
Hazel Levesque, daughter of Pluto
Ellen...is a great cook
Frank Zhang, son of Mars
His name is Bo...does not like being a shape shifter
Leo Valdez, son of Hephaestus
Gregg..son of a doctor...not very smart
Thalia Grace, daughter of Zeus
Helga...very intense...don’t mess with her
Reyna Avila Ramírez-Arellano, daughter of Bellona
Mel (short for Melody) daughter of Hermes
Grover Underwood, Saytr
Grover...half man half goat...protector of Percy (1st guy...that I was wrong about)
Nico di Angelo, son of Hades
Tom...very quiet...but very deadly
Rachel Elizabeth Dare, Oracle of Delphi
Veronica...daughter of Athena

Bilingual Worship: Three Lessons I Learned
Bilingual Worship: Three Lessons I Learned
A worship pastor shares lessons she learned through leading bilingual worship at an intercultural, intergenerational bilingual ministry in Pasadena, California.
By Rosa Cándida Ramírez
This was first published at Sing! The Center for Congregational Song. and at https://worship.calvin.edu/resources/resource-library/bilingual-worship-three-lessons-i-learned/

+++
1. GIVE UP THE IDEA OF COMFORT
Leading worship bilingually is hard. It takes a LOT of work to plan worship services that reflect one culture, let alone two. Doing this work has required that I give up what makes me comfortable. Sometimes, it means that for the sake of including the narratives and worship expressions of my sisters and brothers, prepping for service might take me twice as long. It also means that as a worship leader, I must also be twice as prepared in leading the worship team/choir/ensemble in understanding the “ins and outs” of a bilingual service, as they themselves can be in the midst of an unfamiliar terrain.
I remember leading a rehearsal, and after we wrapped up one song, my guitarist stopped, looked up at me and simply said “Bilingual worship is hard.” I smiled and chuckled. “Yes, it is,” I replied. It was in that moment that although we were both committed to the work, we both acknowledged and normalized how hard it was. It was also in that moment that I realized that I had not prepped my team ahead of time to think through the dynamics of leading in bilingual worship because I didn’t anticipate how hard it was going to be. I learned that for my team it was necessary for me to acknowledge and normalize the complexities that they trusted me to lead them through. For if the team was struggling, how much more would the congregation struggle?
Tumblr media
2. EXPERIMENT
There is no “one way” to lead bilingual worship. If anything, experiment. See what works for your congregation.
At my church, it took us quite a while to figure out the balance required for us to faithfully worship bilingually. Worship today looks completely different than it did four years ago. In 2014, lyrics to any given song were only projected in one language, whereas now lyrics are projected in two languages so that all can understand and follow along with the song. As a creative person, I didn’t realize how much my enthusiasm got in the way of my being pastoral on Sunday mornings when I would introduce a new song that at least half the congregation wasn’t familiar with. Instead of saying or thinking “Oh, the rest of the congregation will eventually get it,” I began to take note of what language the congregation was more comfortable in singing out loud, and what rhythms people were actually able to follow along with a clap. I also began to ask myself the following questions: Who is excluded when we sing songs that are completely in English? Who is excluded when we sing songs that are completely in Spanish? How will I introduce a particular rhythm or melody line that no one is familiar with? What words do I need to introduce to the congregation before we sing a song so that they aren’t stumbling through the words?
My guitarist stopped, looked up at me and simply said, ‘Bilingual worship is  hard.’
Tumblr media
3. LISTEN INTENTLY
In singing songs that come from other cultures, you (and your congregation or community) are embodying a way in which worship is lived out from a particular language and/or culture. Before leading bilingually, I needed to both learn and then model what it meant for me to live an intercultural life; to sit and listen to my sisters and brothers, and sit in between the tension of two different languages that have different cultural values and understandings of God.
Remember that singing songs in a different language or from a different culture means that you cannot limit your interaction with said language or culture to the four minutes that you sing through the song. If a song originates from a particular country, make friends or partner with people from said country, be an informed worship leader/pastor/director, read about what is happening in the country and have your congregation learn, pray and connect with what the people from that country are going through. I encourage you to go further and look around in your neighborhoods and begin to listen intently to the realities and tensions that our brothers and sisters from different cultures are experiencing in our own backyards?
During this season of Lent, partner and have conversations. Take note and ask what grief, lament and the season of Lent means in the two languages that you are trying to bring together. Singing and worshiping God in different languages is powerful, but as the saying goes, “with great power comes great responsibility.” As a worship leader/pastor/director, make sure to enhance your toolkit by reading books like The Next Worship: Glorifying God in a Diverse World, by Sandra Maria Van Opstal, and Churches, Cultures and Leadership: A Practical Theology of Congregations and Ethnicities by Dr. Mark Branson and Dr. Juan F. Martinez.
All in all, leading worship amidst two cultures, languages and traditions allows the body of Christ to experience different expressions of God. Thanks be to God for the gift of diversity and the gift of bilingualism.

The Fearsome Sounds of GRAJO!
Doomed & Stoned en España
~By Juan Antonio~
Tumblr media
Let me introduce you to yet another band from my country. This time we’re going to talk about GRAJO.   It's a Spanish word that means "rook," "crow," or "raven" in English.   Grajo hails from Cordoba, Andalusia, in southern Spain.   It's a city best known as the world capital of flamenco, but is also proud home to some classic rock bands that have been influential here since the seventies.   Two, in particular, started it all: Mezquita and Medina Azahara.  Grajo was born from these ashes, with members coming and going for several years, until their lineup was finally cemented two years ago.   Having their own brand of spaced-out stoner-doom, Grajo were ready to go full force into the great unknown.
During the summer of 2015, Grajo recorded a two-song demo in order to find new members and it was at that moment that they discovered Liz.   After successfully collaborating with them in one of their songs, she joined the band on a permanent basis.   Take a listen to "Golden Cemetery."
Golden Cemetery (demo) by Grajo
So the four-piece was settled: Liz on vocals, Josef on guitar, Pistolo on bass, and Félix on drums.   They are well situated in the land of doom, with atmospheric passages based on monolithic riffs, topped by female melodies, and accented by nuances from space, stoner, and progressive rock.   Their music, as they stated themselves, is hard and slow, harmonic and hypnotic.
Grajo gained good reviews from their demo and decided to go further, entering La Mina Studio in Córdoba that autumn to record a split with fellow Spaniards Atavismo.   Released in 2016 on limited edition 7” vinyl and published by multiple labels (Nooirax Productions, Fuzz t-shirts, and La Choza de Doe), Feeding Our Demons was the official debut of the new line-up.   The name Grajo was steadily gaining more recognition in the heavy underground of Spain...and beyond.
Feeding Our Demons-Split 7 with Atavismo by Grajo
The spring of 2016 found Grajo busy yet again, entering the same studio and producing their proper debut, simply entitled Grajo.   Recorded and mixed in just four days, the album featured five tracks -- one of them a re-recorded version of "Golden Cemetery."   Once again, more slow and lengthy passages combined with nasty guitars and a pounding rhythm section.   The vocals here are just mesmerizing, all throughout the work.   The overall sound was much improved from former releases, so it’s clear the band was starting to find comfort in their own unique style.   If I were to choose a favorite track or two, I’d go for the powerful opener, "I Am The Sea," and then the closer, called "Imperium" -- a lengthy instrumental with an Arabic approach.   Grajo was released in May by DHU records (vinyl), Nooirax Productions (CD) and Abusive Noise Tapes (cassette).   The CD release contained an extra track, pulled from the 7” split.
Grajo by Grajo
Most recently, Grajo contributed to another split, this time sharing 7" vinyl with the band Orthodox from Seville.   "Black Thunder Witch" is the title track and plays out in much the same vein as the material on the album.   Noteworthy here is a spoken word passage with acoustical guitar that bridges the verses, ending with a delay-powered guitar solo.   Their usual artwork designer is Antonio Ramírez (also known as Mentes de ácido), if you want to take a look.
Grajo/Orthodox 7 by Grajo
What is in store for Grajo in the near future?   The band is presently preparing their second album, still waiting for a date to record.   Last but not least, Grajo will make their first international appearance at Into the Void Fest in The Netherlands this October.   The future seems bright for this band.   Don’t hesitate and check them out!

MA Fashion and Textile Practices Major Project Path - 12th August
So now I had created my template and practice piece that represented my Protest T-shirt, I wanted to do the same for my Anarchist of Love T-shirt, so I began to follow the same template. I found a couple of websites which had a good selection of love songs to get my teeth into and then that set the ball rolling to trigger more personal songs. Music is an emotional experience for me, I think that’s why I don’t listen to it very often, I invariably start crying! I’m a big indie rock fan so I thought looking at indie love songs would add a unique edge. Love songs don’t always have to be about being sentimental and overtly romantic. Once I had found suitable lyrics I created a Design Map as before to plot out the layout of the T-shirt.
Tumblr media
Initially I wanted to design a T-shirt about love that was multicoloured, bright and eye catching, but then that didn’t represent the aesthetic I wanted to achieve. It was a T-shirt about being an anarchist of love, so it had to look like a newspaper or a billboard, where you were willing to literally wear your heart on your sleeve (or T-shirt!) I decided that incorporating red into the black and white mix would be apt. Our traditional ‘Red Top’ newspapers grab attention like no others  - like the Daily Mirror front page on the Sex Pistols I showed earlier - and the colour red is considered to be the colour of love after all, but why is that?
Red:
It is known that the colour red can affect us physically - simply observing the colour can enable increased heart rate, blood pressure and respiration. It makes us feel more energetic and confident, and can provide comfort, it’s a sexy colour, so there are many reasons why red is associated with love. Although red is very much the oxymoron of the colour wheel, it’s often used as a colour for warning, like the signs on the road - ‘Do not enter!’ and ‘Stop!’ Where would horror films be without the colour red? It’s the colour of blood and instills fear. Like the use of the red balloon that character Pennywise the clown carries in Stephen King’s tale ‘IT’.

As I discussed in my previous blog entry regarding colour, colours can be interpreted in different ways depending on your culture, although the colour red is the most used colour in national flags. In China for instance the colour red is a protective colour. This theory comes from an ancient folk tale regarding a man eating beast called the Nian who only attacked at the end of the lunar year -Chinese New Year. The beast was overcome when the villagers discovered it  disliked light, loud noises and the colour red, so they made firecrackers, adorned their houses with red paper lanterns and dressed themselves with the colour for protection. Now at Chinese New Year these traditions still continue.

The Aztecs discovered that using an extract from the female Cochineal beetle mixed with water produced a potent red dye. A pound of this dry extract would require the use of around 70,000 insects, which in the time of the Aztecs was more valuable than gold. The Aztecs may have discovered how to make and use extract, however it was the Spanish which introduced it to Europe around the 1500′s. The colour quickly took on where it was used mainly to produce textiles, many of which were used to produce gowns for the aristocracy or uniforms for armies. Red was perceived as a powerful colour.

The colour inevitably made its way to the artists paint palette where it was mixed with a binder to produce a vibrant pigment known as Lake. If your funds for new materials were a little tight, the colour could be made from shreds of dyed cloth, but the results were not hardly as vibrant as the results Lake could achieve. There was a drawback to its use however, whilst the colour remained vibrant on textiles it faded through exposure to daylight on canvas. Within oils it had to be used in excess otherwise with only minimal use it would fade quickly. In the late 19th century artificial colours were produced, such as ones made from coal rat called Alizarins. These new artificial pigments not only gave the same vibrancy but better longevity and offered a much cheaper alternative. For the sake of the Cochineal beetle, this was probably good news as it almost died out in its native homeland.

Whilst on the subject of love, why is the red rose so symbolic of the emotion? We could say that it’s all Shakespeare’s (1564 - 1616) fault when he penned in his romantic tragedy Romeo and Juliet, when Juliet declares:
“What’s in a name? that which we call a rose. By any other name would smell as sweet”.
But the rose has had significant meaning to cultures far earlier than Shakespearean times. In Western culture the rose was believed to have been created by the Greek goddess of love herself; Aphrodite. After her lover Adonis was killed by a wild boar his blood and her tears soaked into the ground and from that grew red roses, although this story has many versions and some say the wildflower Anemone grew instead. In Roman mythology it is said that wealthy Romans gave red roses as symbols of beauty and love. For thousands of years China was the main cultivator of roses, roses were said to have been grown in cultivated Chinese gardens dating back 5,000 years. According to Hindu beliefs the Goddess Laxmi - who is the Goddess of fortune and prosperity -  was created from 108 large and 1,008 small rose petals. Many depictions of her show her sitting or standing in a giant rose and holding roses in her hands. Her husband, the God Vishnu was deeply in love with her, thus cementing the idea that roses were strongly connected to love and romance.

The Victorians used flowers a as floral code to portray their emotions. Publicly declaring your undying love to the object of your desire was not socially acceptable in the Victorian era, so they developed a floral code to say what they couldn’t. This code wasn’t solely used for declarations of love, flowers were used to send messages of sympathy, friendship, desire etc. Each flower had a different meaning, and when combined in certain ways could say specific things. Through the use of this code the Victorians instilled in us the importance of flowers and what they mean to us today.
20th Century Typographers (2017) states the renowned Artist and Teacher Josef Albers said of the colour red:
“If one says ‘Red’ (the name of a color) and there are 50 people listening, it can be expected that there will be 50 reds in their minds. And one can be sure that all these reds will be very different”.
Albers was a teacher at the Bauhaus Weimar from 1923 to the school’s dissolution in 1933. He taught the fundamental ethos of Bauhaus, that design should be based primarily on the properties of the material used and the function of the design. Along with fellow teacher and artist László Moholy-Nagy he taught this preliminary course until 1928, then solo until 1933. After his stint at Bauhaus he and his wife - Bauhaus student and fellow artist Anneliese Fleischmann - moved to America where he began to work at Black Mountain College in North Carolina. Here he developed and wrote the course Interaction of Color. Albers was obsessed with colour and its use. The course was a first of its kind, he wanted to describe and show how colour behaved, he described colour like it was a sentient thing. For centuries colour had been perceived as a science, from Newton’s discovery of the colour spectrum to that of the colour wheel used in the school of Bauhaus itself. Albers was uneasy with the concept of the colour wheel and believed it served of little practical use to an artist, he wanted to show that colour behaved in certain ways, he believed that we perceive colour in varying degrees and that as a medium it is bent on deceiving the viewer. He catagorised colours into three distinctive areas: Passive, Deceptive and Unstable but he did recognise that colours were predictable to some extent and that they ‘sat’ together well. In 1963 the course was finally published, 33 years after its inception and in 2013, a ground breaking digital edition of the Interaction of Color was developed in the form of an app for the Apple iPad. The 50th Anniversary Edition publication below appears to be supporting his quote in regards to the several ways we perceive the colour red:

To me the most memorable of any ‘Love’ T-shirt that incorporates the colours black, white and red is that depicting graphic designer Milton Glaser’s famous logo ‘I ♥ NY’. On my first trip to New York it was one of the first things I wanted to buy because it represented a place I had only dreamt of going to. Also, I knew I could wear it once I got home as it was a fashionable item of clothing and still is!
In 1976 when Glaser was a young New York designer just starting out, the city was on the decline. Crime rates were worrying high and many of the wealthier, middle class New Yorkers had moved out of town. Something had to be done in an attempt to restore some faith in the city, so the New York State Department of Commerce devised a campaign to do just that. The slogan ‘I love New York’ had already been mooted by Ad agency Wells Rich Greene and a jingle had been composed to be played between prime time TV shows. All that the campaign required was a strong logo to complete it and Glaser was brought in to do the job.

It was reported that in a yellow cab on the way to a client meeting he pulled out a red crayon from his pocket and quickly scrawled the idea down on a piece of paper. He then later adapted it so the text stacked on top of each other to line up the four elements. Using the heart instead of the word ‘Love’ was one of the first of its kind, akin to the use of emoji’s today. Chris Lowery (2017), president and chief strategist of Chase Design Group said as such:
“The I ♥ NY logo Milton Glaser created so many decades ago was really the world’s first emoji. In a diverse, multicultural city like New York, anyone who saw it instantly knew what it meant”.
At the time Glaser worked pro bono, and when he was told the campaign wouldn’t run much past a few months he decided not to copyright the design. However New York state’s Economic Development Corp did copyright the design, and now after over 40 years it is still one of the world’s most recognised logos. The day after the horrific terrorist attack on New York on 11th September 2001, Glaser looked to the logo once again in an attempt to build moral. He signed the left side of the heart and added ‘more than ever’ underneath.

The modified logo appeared on the front cover of The Daily News on September 19th and the students at Manhattan’s School of Visual Arts produced a matching poster free of charge to be distributed around the city. Toufan Rahimpour (2017)  COO of Logoworks says the logo has stood the test of time for a reason:
“I ♥ NY was a symbol of its time (a “scrappy” logo for a “scrappy city”) that became so culturally omnipresent it transcended itself. It’s no longer just a logo, it conveys emotions. It represents the spirit of New York.”
