Meguri's ended, and that ending felt... ...lacking? But also like, soft and melancholic.

I think I like that they didn't just do a witch-snap away to have Satoko act like her "normal" self again-- that was something I questioned a bit in Sotsu, but also didn't have a huge problem with so like, it's not a big deal for me either way but

idk, just something about yeah, she's changed because of those experiences, and what happened to her, and what she was pushed into doing, but she has her friends and brother now as a support group to help her keep moving forward. Even if it's hard sometimes and sometimes she doesn't know how to move forward. As long as she has her support group, and-- hell, she has Rika too still sticking by her side through everything, she's at least not alone.

At least-- that's what I got out of it. Thoughts may change as it lays in my brain for longer.

Better ending? Worse ending? Nah. It's just-- a different ending and take on how to go about that for the characters, it seems.

Now that Meguri is done, though... I should probably schedule a rewatch of Gou and Sotsu, and then reread GouMeguri to really get my thoughts on it. ...eventually.

Higurashi Meguri 18.3 Raw Spoilers Thoughts

Okay, so first thing's first:

Pros:

Really like the shot of Rika and Satoko looking so tired. While I don't really understand the dialogue (had quit studying Japanese pretty early), I love how Rika and Satoko have this unspoken begrudging understanding. At least that's how I took it.

Satoko is at the same footing as Rika. They're both standing at the same place, and Satoko couldn't be any more miserable.

That or I'm just doing too much analysis.

Cons:

We're....still in the club. This arc is going painfully slow compared to the other ones. I'm honestly pretty fed up. Yes, I appreciate Rika and the club talking to Satoko (though I do like some aspects of Sotsu more than Meguri), but...

Why is everything still going on in the school? In the same room? I thought previously it was because I was just consuming these raw chapters the moment they come out (work ends like 4 hours before so it's perfect), but like...at this point I'm tired.

I want Rika to question why and how Satoko gained these powers. Without a clear understanding of Satoko's situation, I fear Rika would just doom herself again.

We still have Eua that is probably cackling madly in the background.

The new Meguri chapter making me unhinged in the positive way like I’m not the best at articulating my thoughts on WTC ever but like there’s something raw about this acknowledgment that Satoko is constantly putting on a facade that is meant to give her control over her life. Like Satoshi’s disappearance created this belief in her mind that she was too weak to fend for herself and defend herself from abuse, and that this “burden” drove him away. (When we know that isn’t true) So she resolves to be independent and strong not only so Satoshi won’t worry about her but so that no one else will. Even if it’s a lie that she’s doing fine it’s better to suffer when no one’s watching than for them to see her as weak and pitiful. This aspect of her character is a large reason why she acts how she does in GouSotsuMeguri because this mentality “backfires” in St. Lucia and seemingly confirms a fear Satoko has had about her relationship with Rika: She wouldn’t care about her if she wasn’t pitiful. If she wasn’t abused, her and Rika would’ve never become close, and without that tragedy she wouldn’t have Rika (and this goes for Rika too btw e.i Saikoroshi) so why not just accept the perpetual suffering? And the looping only solidified this belief it didn’t create it.

The scars of abuse run deep and I think that as of now the start of Meguri’s Tatariakashi highlights this well. Starting out with showing how her arc in Minagoroshi, an arc often thought as triumphant and inspiring, can just serve as more evidence to her that in order to matter to those around her now she needs to suffer. This obviously contradicts what she “learned” from Satoshi’s disappearance but that’s why she gives him up. Giving up on Satoshi is giving up on this dream that she can ever be strong enough to overcome her abuse. If she’s going to be weak then, she’s going to be weak by choice. And that choice is going to ensure that she spends eternity with the people she loves most no matter how much it kills her.

Another Sannan hen song

This is the song during the love confession and kissing scene. I love how they keep it very close to the original VN text. I don’t have the text of the actual song so it is likely I make a lot of mistakes in writing down the Japanese text, which will make my translation inaccurate, too. Thankfully, they make this song similar to the VN dialogues in some words and phrases so I can check, compare and correct the lyrics I wrote down by listening. If you want to avoid spoilers for Sannan Hen, it is best for you to not click on Keep reading as this scene happens late into the musical.

You REALLY should have read the fine print on that Hinamizawa Syndrome.

Meguri is shaping up to pay off on the foreshadowing Sotsu left unfulfilled, the one real issue I had with the anime adaptation, the poisoning of the Cyclical Karma. The loops are not truly separate, and Satoko’s intentional malice will lead to a deeper darker world than even she intends. With the birth of *ON ( Which is she? If you read Umineko the answer probably won’t surprise you) our descent into the abyss has truly begun. I sure do love me some toxic lesbians and the nuclear fallout they bring.

ARR THEORY TIME

He might loose every thing especialy a trust that people in the capital gave to him, cuz that's what Kagari wanted to do if Koga still reject Kiryu's offer

The existing happiness will be broken, there's a cg (the one that I put in this pose) where Koga is holding a torn umbrella. I've done research about a torn umbrella's meaning, and I found that 'Dreaming that the umbrella is broken indicates that the existing happiness will be broken'. Are the writers foreshadowing something? 👀

Join the senkitai to find out more about his father. Maybe he'll find the truth (about his parent's death) that shocked him and made him turn into carnage form, or his personality change from friendly to cold (I wanna draw that 😏)

Koga have a fight with Aizen again. For try to invade goverment's office or, turn into a carnage form and Aizen decide to kill him (again 😒)

A shōnen plot to protect the ones he loved, koga might be able to control and use carnage form

Break up with Futaba, to protect her and doesn't want her to get involved any futher

Koga might lose everything, his home, his job, people's love for him..It was mentioned throughout the beginning of the sequel how much people loved and respected him, even giving him a different title than "San, Kun, or even Sama." And as far as I know, mentioning these matters at the beginning, may be negatively affected during the plot.

I have a feeling that Koga will give up everything and join the Senketai to "AVENGE" his father. As it turns out, Koga's dad "Ouga" was the first founder of the Senketai group but he abandoned them, joined the imperial army, became a soldier, and died, or in other words, was killed because he once opposed them for something...I have a feeling that Koga might bring out his vengeful personality and join the Senketai, claiming revenge, even though it is not his style.

I feel like Koga will become a cold character like Akiyasu for a while...I can never bear the thought of that smile disappearing from his beautiful face throughout the sequel. I will never bear it!😭💔

break up scene. There has to be a breakup. In any love story, The two heroes face difficulties during their love journey, and one of the two heroes makes a decision that the other will not like, which leads to their disagreement or breaking up...we can't call a couple "a couple" if this didn't happen...Don't mind me, recently I started rewatching old love series that I used to watch when I was a kid and I'm starting to understand their plot now...hehe...hmmm

Carnage form makes a comeback. How can we forget the best form of Koga in the entire game? This is 10,000% predictable, I mean...Koga is still taking the medicine from Yura, which means that the return of the carnage form is guaranteed. But if we take the matter further, he may appear with this transformation in public, or he may hurt Futaba again and realize this and run away, or he may speak through it, anything is possible, dear potatoes!

I might even imagine that Koga is about to die or that he died and Futaba's love for him brought him back to life or something... Oh my god! I hate my brain at 12 midnight! SOMEBODY SNACH THE PHONE FROM ME!

Koga's past self will show up, speaking with Koga like a school basketball player talking to his teammate...or scolding him for doing something to Futaba, Oh IMAGINE THEM ACTUALLY MEETING EACH OTHER AND THREW HANDS AT EACH OTHER!! I SHALL BRING POPCORN WITH ME WHILE READING THIS SCENE IN CASE IT HAPPENS!

They might use Koga for the Youjin experiments. The Youjin experiments got revealed in Koga's sequel apparently, because they appeared in the main story, but their identities were unknown and mysterious, and he and Yakumo might meet for the first time, as I always wished for, and who knows? Either they cooperate and stop the experiments or not.

Just noticed I didn't talk about Kiryu and Kagari until now, I think Kagari is the final boss and not the eye-patched Kiryu. Why? I don't know, I don't trust people with glasses in visual novels. Therefore, I expect that Kagari will turn against Kiryu and kill him, making it clear to us that Kagari is the final boss in the end.

If that situation that always goes through my head occurs in the sequel, I will sue the staff, writers, authors, artists, and game makers.

But really... if any of this happens, I swear I will cry, but I don't know, either from joy because what I expected was true, or from sadness because Koga will be the one who will suffer from what I expected...I will leave the opinion to you.
