Meg McCaffrey reclaiming her personhood by being unapologetically herself is so beautiful, and I truly do believe she might possibly be the best female character Rick has written for the Riordanverse.

Of course that's entirely subjective, but her personality is so different from the other characters we've seen - and for good reason! Meg has been a weapon for almost her entire life, so she clings to every chance she gets to be a child while she's away from Nero. When you compare her to characters like Nico who've been forced to mature the moment they were thrusted into demigod life, it's such an interesting change of pace?? We barely see that!

And I think that's why it takes a little longer for people to warm up to her. I can understand that, we're used to characters putting their personal wants and needs aside to be soldiers. It can be a bit jarring to see Meg, who's introduced for the first time around the same age that Percy was when he debuted in TLT, act so differently despite having been apart of the mythological world for so long.

But I think that's why I'm so fond of TOA. It deviates away from the formula in so many different ways, but the narrative decisions for both Meg and Apollo are incredibly rewarding to read in full. They're two completely different people (if we're going off surface-level observations anyway) and they bring out the best in each other despite that. With him, she can just be Meg :)

Okay, I think I’m FINALLY done with these designs. Well okay, I said Megatron might need some reworking, but shush, I’ll do that another time

I was not expecting this to take as long as it did. Apparently I started making this at 9 in the morning, and it is now 9:30 at night. Optimus, I am almost certain this is your fault

Anyways, as mentioned prior, the idea here was to give the Earthspark Cybertronians protoform designs like the Terrans, what they might look like when they were in this stage, because I haven’t seen anything to claim Cybertronians in this series don’t also have this stage, unless I’m wrong

I mean theoretically, Cybertronian protoforms could look entirely different from Terran protoforms, but we don’t know at this juncture, so I used the Terrans as my main references

Pretty much the main thing was trying to turn their blocky features smooth, while also taking out a bunch of their little details, like their antenna and horns

Honestly I still think Elita turned out the best, which is maybe a bit sad considering she was the first one I finished, but oh well. I don’t think everyone else was horrible, but I think she just looks best

I think Bee’s design is fine, and it was honestly refreshing after struggling so much with Optimus, but I can’t help but feel like his eyes are still wonky

Like I’ve said, by the end of things I think Megatron came out the worst. He was the second one I did, so I wasn’t sure, but by now I think he is. The real struggle with him is that his entire helmet is comprised of angles, when I need curves. And then there’s his side things, which I still do not know how to translate here. The idea I was trying to go for here is the top half goes around his head, while the bottom half is attached at the ends, but it’s the bottom half that looks weird. But ah well, hopefully I can fix it later

And then there’s Optimus. The majority of the time I’ve spent on this was him. It was mostly the struggle of his vents and trying to make them un-blocky. It was getting really frustrating particularly because I couldn’t think of anything new to do with them to change them, drawing the same thing over and over

But then I remembered, this Optimus was once Orion Pax, a fact I was planning to omit. But that meant I had something else to draw on

And it’s what finally got my brain to make his side things into the curves you see now. It’s also why his middle thing is solid black, like how it seems to be in the picture above

But yeah, I wouldn’t rate his design as the absolute best, but it’s serviceable and I’ll take what I can get

But aside from trying to change their designs, I think I had fun. I noticed by the end of it that they all have different face and eye shapes, and that’s pretty fun

Speaking of which, I notice with this how small Optimus’ eyes are here. They may not look it in my drawing but they’re a lot smaller than the others in the show. Is that one of the reasons his design looks so off? Like I know it looks weird, I just can’t place how exactly

But yeah, take these designs, the culmination of my drawing abilities for the day. I’d like to do more with them, I just don’t know what. Best I can think of is like, a fic premise where the Cybertronians somehow get reverted back to these protoform stages, and the Terrans now have to help them out

i like to think that when meg is at camp she sacrifices food to apollo instead of demeter. but not like good food. like, you know those blueberries that are all shriveled up. things like that. or a waffle she accidentally spilled water on. and she always says it’s for lester papadopolous

okay i have this funky idea (yet another one i will write) where d-16 also fell down into cybertrons core and primus was like wtf is up with this kid and kind of bopped him on the head and now megatron feels like hes going insane because there are 2 other megatrons THAT ONLY HE CAN SEE AND HEAR that keep following him around not only talking about how war is pointless and dumb but also megatron should tap that hot piece of optimus ass

(aka IDW and earthspark megatrons somehow become tf1 megatrons voices of consciousness. to distinguish them, earthspark megatron takes up the name megan [the other two hate it and he finds it way too funny] and idw megatron goes by megs [only slightly better than megan])

i think it'd be rlly funny if ravage and minimus hated each other btw. the only reason they get along is bc of their mutual connection to megatron. and even that isn't enough sometimes lmao

Apollo preferring to look like Lester even after he became a god and changing his appearance to look older or younger when he meets a mortal

New demigods not believing that he is Apollo and he feels a little proud and giddy to be called ‘Lester’

Names have power in Percy Jackson and Apollo accepting the name Lester just as much as Apollo and he is given power everytime someone calls him Lester

Apollo and Meg being mistaken as siblings when they walk around together and Apollo calling her ‘little sister’ for the rest of the day

I know it’s basically already established that Lester is slowly incorporating Meg’s vocabulary into his own; however, I think it’d be funny if she conversely was also mirroring his expressions.

She starts doing it solely because he’s annoyed by it. While Meg was conditioned to keep her emotions heavily guarded as to not have them exploited, Lester is physically incapable of keeping a poker face in any situation so there’s always something on display when she looks at him. Meg thinks it’s incredibly funny how irritated he gets when he’s pouting and she starts mimicking him - which only encourages her to keep doing it.

But then as the weeks go on, she subconsciously develops the same habit of pulling the most judgmental face possible whenever something stupid happens. And then she glances over at Lester and he’s coincidentally already making the same expression, and Meg has to pretend it was intentional despite the fact it’s clearly no longer a bit she’s doing.
