Life in plastic continues to be fantastic for Barbie, as Greta Gerwig's blockbuster crossed the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office. In other news, Meg 2 scored a decent debut while holding out for international results. Meanwhile, Oppenheimer continues to impress despite its lengthy runtime and adult rating, while movie theaters across the county prepare for the conclusion of the summer movie season.
The final remnants of "Barbenheimer" make their mark across the big screen before the summer release season concludes with the debut of Blue Beetle looming in the calendar over the next few weeks...
Barbie Fever Continues to Strike
Margot Robbie herself believed the project could earn over $1 billion when she pitched it to the studio, and she turned out to be right. When it comes to the domestic side of things, Barbie earned $53 million during its third weekend playing on big screens across the United States and Canada. The number represents a 43% drop from last weekend, demonstrating just how strong the overall box office performance of the comedy has been. Barbie is only the sixth release to earn over a billion dollars since the pandemic shut down movie theaters. Barbie has earned $572 million from international markets, turning the movie into a pop culture phenomenon all over the world. The film is also the first billion-dollar hit for Warner Bros. in four years, with the last of their movies to achieve the accomplishment being Joker...
Oppenheimer Continues Its Explosive Run
In the third spot, Oppenheimer continues to perform exceptionally well for an R-rated movie with a 3-hour runtime. Christopher Nolan's drama starring Cillian Murphy as the man behind the atomic bomb earned $28.7 million during its third weekend at the domestic box office. The fact that the movie already earned over $500 million at the worldwide box office is impressive considering the odds stacked against it, including its previously mentioned runtime and the fierce competition of the summer movie season. With a 38% drop, it looks like audiences are still eager to watch the latest Nolan project. The film has made $114 million in IMAX alone, leading to another extension of its run in that format...'

As I was telling @thewildwestpyro earlier, I can't believe Brittany Murphy never occurred to me as Meg inspo before. She's exactly how I picture Meg in The First Movie Star, sans freckles. Murphy and Fernanda Muniz remind me so much of each other even without Muniz's freckles.

Forget What's New to Netflix; it's time for What's New to Max! We are continuing on from last month's accidental crossover episode, reviewing three films that are new to the streaming service, Max. However, we do go over all of the new titles coming to Netflix in November 2023 at the top of the episode.
We start our review portion of the show by checking out the underrated Eddie Murphy adventure film, The Golden Child, from 1986. Then we join up with Jason Statham and his crew as they battle megalodons and a giant octopus in Meg 2: The Trench from 2023. And afterwards, we revisit the Joe Dante action comedy Small Soldiers from 1998.
All of this plus movies you could buy at McDonalds, Netflix puts a spin on golf, the return of The Crown, Adam Sandler is a lizard, Squid Game is now a reality, and Christmas movies where they have to save Christmas from something or there will never be a Christmas ever again!

WWW Wednesday: May 24th, 2023
WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words. The Three Ws are: What are you currently reading? What did you recently finish reading? What do you think you’ll read next? What I am currently reading: “INKHEART meets INCEPTION in this allegorical masterpiece.” Fantasy author Kyla knows dreams don’t come true. Isolated and grappling with debilitating depression, she…

BTW, @scripted-downfall, did you ever finish Dark Angel?
Okay, let’s see what’s happening over on The Winchesters:
• We’ve got someone whose greatest regret was not saying “I love you” to her husband before he disappeared.
• We’ve got someone who fell in love with a man who wasn’t human (“from totally different worlds”). He died; immediately after, she had his half-human/half-something-else son. She was scared of her son and inadvertently pushed him away. She still believes following your heart is never a mistake.
• We’ve got two parents who split because things weren’t the same after their adopted child died.
• We’ve got someone who’s come back from a faraway war, traumatized over losing his good buddy and imagining he sees him everywhere.
• He’s also infatuated with someone but the pair of them are convinced the other doesn’t feel the same way. One wants to be asked to stay; the other always pushes away. (Their long-suffering friends & family are like ugh would y’all just get together already this is painful to watch.)
• He also has a thing for men in uniform & loves seeing his friend dress up in funny little outfits.
• Oh he also has an anger problem and being manipulated by a god who calls himself Destiny did not help.
• We’ve got a headstrong (read: bossy, annoying as hell but you can’t help but love ’er) hunter with a soft spot for kids, following in her (missing) father’s footsteps, whose deepest trauma (in a subconscious that is a world of darkness with a trauma behind every door) was being told at five years old that she was destined for a life of violence. There’s a knife under her pillow—she likes to keep it close. She never was a child.
• But wait! Then there’s a freewheeling bisexual who lives on the road & speaks entirely in pop culture references.
Men will literally write thirteen(-plus?)-part sagas about giant intergalactic mind-controlling bugs in which every single character is themselves instead of going to therapy
