MF Day #56: Camillot

First there were elements, then came job titles, and now we have time periods! I gotta hand it to the crew for really experimenting with different ideas for Mixel tribes this time around. The Medivals is a fun group of middle age mixels that were lucky enough to be starred in the one and only special they were featured in. And Camillot is a pretty good and decently developed character. I like how his castle-like design is somewhat a metaphor of how anxious he is of stepping out from his comfort zone, with his eyes hiding inside the gaping window on his face, compared to everyone else whose eyes are out and free. I think his development along with being part of the cool mixeloptor battle in the end is what helps salvage an otherwise average Mixels special.

Do you think that the mixels from series 7 onwards are artificial?

The only Series 7-9 Mixels I feel that AREN'T artificial are the Medials, Pyrrats, and Nindjas. How are you gonna say they that count?

vampire Rhaenyra this, vampire Rhaenyra that, WHAT ABOUT VAMPIRE ALICENT GUYS !?

MF Day #59: Mixadel

Mixadel has always stood out as one of my favorite mixels that came out in 2016, and is possibly in my top 10 as well. For starters, he’s got such a great design that feels really in sync to his personality. With a square shaped body to show that he’s old fashioned, complete with a brick belt and two sets of stubby legs to hold him up. A kettle hat that helps convey his snobbish attitude very well, and his signature catapult.

Y’know, it’s kinda funny how his name is Mixadal when he isn’t willing to mix with any other mixel outside of their tribe(at least not at first). Speaking of which, Mixadel is one of the very few mixels to go through some kind of an arc in the show, and it feels pretty natural to his character. Where he personality believes that he shouldn’t have to mix with other mixels mainly because of his higher class. But through his experience of his first day in school, he learns how mixing with mixels from other elements or interests can open you up with endless possibilities. I do wish that it had more buildup and felt less rushed, but it’s a nice little redemption arc regardless.

And on top of all this, Mixadel’s voice in the show is provided by the legendary Richard Horvitz! Who has a long range of voice roles from an conquering alien to an assassin imp. And while I wouldn’t say that this is one of his greatest performances, he does feel like a perfect choice to voice a bratty royal kid.
