Being a member of the Bat Family, problems finds you, often times with catastrophic consequences. And more often than not, it is delegated by Batman. But still, any member is free to take on any cases from the Batcomputer's case files, sometimes for fun, often times coz it's their calling.

So here are the top five cases, the Batboys usually takes out from Batman's case files.

DAMIAN AL GHUL WAYNE • Anything al Ghul related cases • Cases involving underground assassin and mercenary groups • Cases involving the demonic, the occult and mystic arts • Animal abuse cases • Cases involving minor children, clones, and multiverse version of villains, anti-heroes, and superheroes (mainly of Batman and Superman)

TIMOTHY DRAKE • White collar crimes (as Wayne CEO) • Cold cases of Batman • Anything time-warping and dimensional or multiversal related cases • Anything Batman related cases  (notably those when Batman goes off-grid, etc.) • Cases involving teen children, clones, and multiverse version of villains, anti-heroes, and superheroes (mainly of Batman and Superman)

JASON TODD • Gotham related cases (notably those involving women and children) • Cases involving syndicated crimes (committed by crimelords, mafia bosses, etc.) • Cases involving unauthorized vigilantes and superhero activities in Gotham • Cases involving rehabilitation of ex-criminals and goons of Gotham • Anything Batman related cases (notably those when Batman is the problem, and when other Wayne kids are involved)

I'm sorry but I still cannot get past the elephant in the room with the specific choice of that spell for Buffy Season 6's point of no return for Willow.

There's a very simple reason for that.

If the existence of the mass mind control spell that retroactively inserted a person into the lives of everyone around her with fake memories, a being that is a pure eldritch abomination in a human suit is good then that makes the Bramble an unfortunate choice. Dawn Summers has a literal mind-whammy power that makes people rally to defend her a literally fatal cost to themselves. Dawn Summers existing like this is IMO one of the big reasons Whedon undid that entire element of Season 6, because you cannot tell me that this is good and that the Bramble and Tabula Rasa spell are morally different.

As I've said before, Dark Willow works even better as the mousy sidekick turned Sauron, Lord of the Rings, Lord of the World. The former reliable hostage gains the power to make reality bend to her whim, and is now vastly more powerful than the hero she used to worship the ground she walked on. There are ample reasons here for an abuse victim who survived a cult to go 'nope, y'all got this, peace out' and vamoose after she sees it coming.

That part was set up in earlier seasons very directly. Both the attempted curse on Oz and Veruca, the delusting spell, the Will Be Done when drunk spell, all that shows that the potential was always there. It was the logical outcome of channeling ever more vast amounts of power with minimal control of it.

Going from mass bullying victim target to 'I am God-Emperor of the known universe, master of mankind by the will of the Gods' would be innately corrupting by itself. The megalomania would work just as well and it'd be a case of 'vast power is not a toy, and should not be treated as such.'

So deciding to make Dawn Summers good and magic addiction bad by virtue of a MEMORY SPELL as the point she crossed the line is a point where you literally cannot retcon any of that. And since I do like to treat Dawn Summers as having a dissonance between being a bratty little sister and playing the full paranoia of her existence completely straight I would have been just fine with the memory spell if they'd elected to do that but they didn't.

That is what we call 'bad writing' that defies the entire premise of the setting, which is why Whedon decided to retcon it and as questionable a man as he is and as questionable as his other writing choices are he made a good call on that one.

Obviously, I don’t condone it or think that Endeavor’s actions are correct or good in the source material. But we are playing with the medium of fiction here. In the form of a distilled short-form joke.

It’s meant to reflect the observation that other people have made: that Dabi’s personality and affect can occasionally remind them of a cat, specifically the tumblr joke variety like Miette. Not any serious discourse on either character or their relationship.

I think it’s important to remember that when discussing fiction that fanfic/fanart/jokes/headcanons jokes etc are in some ways removed from the actual canon. And that’s fine.

For example, I haven’t watched the anime yet, but I’ve seen people discussing the characters in Bungo Stray Dogs who are based on actual historical authors. If you read the real Dazai’s No Longer Human, it has both merits and drawbacks. Including misogyny and very flippant writing about violence against women. Now, re-envisioning that author in the anime doesn’t mean they are condoning misogyny (and it doesn’t mean the book itself has no value). The same way users who make fan edits of Hannibal likely don’t condone serial killing.

You can engage with media in a critical way, but also playfully do so without explicitly supporting the totality of a character’s actions.
