Leaving the US?
Following the events of last night, its likely a lot of you want to leave the United States. I don't blame you and can't say I haven't entertained the same thoughts. So I complied this list of the easiest countries to move to from the United States, and the pros and cons of each nation
Mexico
Mexico is close to the United States, not requiring a flight to get there (though it is recommended if within your price range) The nation allows residency of US citizens for up to 180 days without a visa or permit, allowing plenty of time to apply for the temporary residency visa which is normally valid for 4-5 years. After 5 years of residency, you can apply for permanent citizenship. https://consulmex.sre.gob.mx/leamington/index.php/non-mexicans/visas/115-temporary-resident-visa
Mexico has a much lower cost of living than the USA, with the average Mexican spending around $1000 usd or MEX$20151.55 mxn. Jobs do pay lower, but the cost of living still works out lower than in the United States and the work environment in Mexico is known to be more healthy. Along with the great weather (and food) Mexico is a good choice for Americans trying to escape the country.
Claudia Sheinbaum, the current president of Mexico was recently sworn in and is a strong advocate for women's rights. She has fought for Abortion rights in Mexico, along with other reproductive rights. She is also a Champion of LGBTQ+ rights and has been fighting to help queer people in Mexico for the majority of her career. She is expanding Mexican welfare and is an environmental advocate. Same-Sex Marriage has been fully legal in Mexico since 2021 and Abortion is not criminalized and preformed in almost all Mexican states. For more information, I suggest the Wikipedia article on Abortion in Mexico, as it is a complicated subject. Although currently, it is ranked around the same as the USA on access across the whole country, Mexican Abortion legislation is moving in the opposite direction to the United State's, as according to the Center for Reproductive Rights, once all of the Mexican states properly reform their laws to comply with the 2023 court ruling, Mexico will be a rank one on Abortion laws, or Abortion available everywhere on request which is expected to be soon. Changing one's legal name and gender is protected under Mexican laws, and the majority of states have anti discrimination laws in place. One state even allows one to change their gender to something other than male or female, recognizing non-binary identities legally.
Portugal
Portugal is a good option for those who have funds to put into leaving. Portugal offers a program for a Golden Visa which can be obtained through owning a certain amount of real estate although there are other ways. This Visa offers the chance at citizenship after holding for only 5 years. https://getgoldenvisa.com/portugal-golden-visa-program
Portugal offers a lot of benefits for retirees as well, so if your grandma also wants to flee the country, Portugal may be the country for her. The weather is good and it is known to be incredibly peaceful and pretty.
Portugal is also in the European Union, meaning citizenship here also means EU citizenship and access to the whole Schengen Zone, allowing a lot of opportunity for education and location, as you don't have to obtain another citizenship to move to another EU nation. Abortion is legal in Portugal as is Same-Sex Marriage and both are protected under the laws of the EU. Trans rights are also protected and a trans person is allowed to change their legal gender without a medical diagnosis.
Ecuador
Ecuador is another option that is good if you aren't looking to leave the Americas. Ecuador allows visa free residency for up to 90 days and grant Permanent resident visas after only 21 months of living with a temporary visa. There are many temporary visa options including an investment one similar to Portugal's and a retiree option. Another option would be the Professional Visa, although that one is more likely to be granted if you have a job lined up and a university degree, it is the only one that does not require a lot of money. Get in touch with an Ecuador embassy here https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/consularnotification/ConsularNotificationandAccess/Ecuador.html
Ecuador also has a lower cost of living compared to the United States and the English language and dollar are often used in the country. The weather in Ecuador is an incredibly good feature of the nation as well.
Ecuador does not allow abortion upon request, but they do allow it to save the life of the mother or for other extreme cases involving rape. There are multiple organizations working to change this however and extend these rights to be more like those of Mexico or Argentina. Same-Sex marriage is protected in Ecuador as of 2019 and transgender people are able to change their legal gender without needing to go through gender affirming surgery.
Spain
Spain has an education based program where citizens of Canada and the United States are granted temporary visa's to come and teach English in the nation. You are compensated and only expected to work for 12-16 hours a week. Under this visa, you can find other work and apply for a more permanent professional Visa, which only have to be renewed every few years and leads you on the path to permanent residency. https://www.educacionfpydeportes.gob.es/eeuu/convocatorias-programas/convocatorias-eeuu/nalcap.html
Spain is also a member of the EU and residency here allows access to the Schengen zone of Europe as well. Spain has abortion on request up to 14 weeks and allows emergency abortions when the mother's life could be at risk even after that. Spain also allows same-sex marriage and has trans protection laws in place, with somebody over 16 allowed to change their legal gender, no parent, judge or doctor involved. Spain also has a very relaxed work culture with the maximum allowed work hours a week being 40 and the average worked being 36.
South Korea
South Korea has a very similar program to Spain, where you can live there for up to a year and teach English, although the South Korean program often requires a bachelors degree. Following the stay with the temporary teaching visa, you could apply for a more permanent option. A "resident visa" in South Korea is typically referred to as an "F-5 visa", which signifies a permanent residency permit, allowing foreigners to live and work in the country indefinitely; to qualify, you must meet certain criteria like significant investment in a Korean business, marriage to a Korean citizen, or a long-term stay with exceptional skills in a specific field. https://www.internations.org/south-korea-expats/guide/visas-work-permits
As of 2021, Abortion is fully legal in the nation and is available upon request, although due to the nature in which it was legalized it is a bit iffy. I would recommend reading further into it. However, although Homosexuality is not criminalized in the country, South Korea has no official recognition of any sort of Marriage or civil unions between same-sex couples and they often face discrimination. So if you are in a same sex relationship, South Korea may not be the place for you.
Australia
Australia is one of the easiest nations for Americans to live in under a temporary Visa, as they have a program called the working holiday program and you can live there up to 3 years under it. However, this program does not lead to permanent residency and you would have to apply for another visa, either a work or family, to move there permanently. https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/permanent-resident
Australia allows abortion up to 23 weeks upon request, although specifics do vary between states. Queer rights in Australia rank among the highest in the world, as marriage has been fully legalized since 2017 and they are also a world leader in trans rights. All Australian states allow the changing of one's gender legally and support gender affirming care. Non-discriminations laws are also present in all the states.
Canada
Canada allows American citizens to stay in their country for up to 6 months visa free, although they are not allowed to work without any sort of visa. The easiest way to gain Canadian residency is though the express visa system. This immigration program targets skilled workers than can contribute to three economic fields in Canada. Canadian citizenship is available after five years of residency. https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada/express-entry/works.html
Cost of living in Canada is slightly higher than in the US, but the benefits are greater with more affordable education and universal healthcare.
Canada is known as one of the best nations for LGBTQ+ people. It was the third nation in the world to legalize same sex marriage. Since June 2017, all places within Canada explicitly within the Canadian Human Rights Act, equal opportunity and/or anti-discrimination legislation prohibit discrimination against gender identity or gender identity or expression. This includes trans rights, who are protected under Canadian law. Abortion is publicly funded and available throughout the entire nation in Canada.
If you live in a red state and aren't interested in leaving the country, but don't want to stay where you are, here's some stats that may help make your decision on where to move to;
States with no abolition ban:
Washington DC, New Jersey, Maryland, Oregon, Vermont, Michigan, Minnesota, Colorado, New Mexico, Alaska
Best states for LGBTQ+ individuals:
New York, Oregon, Minnesota, California, Colorado, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Maine, Washington DC
Hope this helps whoever may need it.

Honestly can someone please explain how New Rome functions to me like I'm five Because this is a demigod settlement with an economy that has all the standard commodities and financial systems of a city, a university, a school system, and if their general hesitation towards outsiders says anything, most likely an in-built program to welcome, settle, and accommodate the extended families of any new demigods or legacies, plus the literal vault of gold they have, so realistically the population is pretty big, no?? It's likely possible for them go unnoticed even with a big population considering how spread out most of the USA is and while we do know that New Rome almost definitely doesn't continue past the horizon when we hear descriptions of it from characters looking down from the Argo II as they land (so it's probably less than 36 km across in all) that's still a pretty fucking big area capable of housing upwards of 1.5 million people. Or hell, look up the actual Ancient Rome (the city that is) which is estimated to have had somewhere around ~500k residents at only about 16 square kilometres, by modern estimations And what makes this even harder is that the hand-wavy descriptions of what the architecture actually looks like beyond "classical" means that for all we know the entire city's living in 19th century apartment buildings (or hell, if the mist is strong enough, high-rises, though that's unlikely as one of the characters probably would've taken note of that), which creates a wildly different population estimate as opposed to, say, if New Rome was primarily made up of the average American suburbs. And mind you, both of those are entirely valid options for how New Rome could look like seeing as we have little to no way of knowing what the standard living situation and/or family unit might look like It gets more confusing when you consider that the 10-years-serving-the-legion rule likely functions like economic immigrants, with the serving of one person allowing for their family to come with and/or them getting rich enough to sponsor people getting in without heading through the army first We also know that they do not have a public transport system and don't use cars so New Rome would've been built with the idea that any necessities (medical, housing, etc.) are within a 15-30 minute walk of you and the city is constructed around the political centre, with any shopping/trading areas, shrines, or entertainment areas such as a theatre also being in the centre So all things considered they could totally have a population in the hundred thousands, though realistically since the city has to be at least 90% Roman legacies and demigods if we account for the mortals brought in through familial relation (spouses, parents/guardians of demigods, etc.) puts a cap of about 50,000 on the population and the actual number at around 20,000, give or take a few thousand
And then fucking Rick jumps in and goes "Oh the population is only like a 1000 people :D" and refuses to elaborate on how or why
#Sorry this turned out longer than planned#I'm just really upset about the inconsistency#Also do not get me started on the absolute bullshit that is the Roman Camp and it's lore/characterization as a whole I will start biting#Rant#Pjo#hoo#new rome#heroes of olympus#percy jackon and the olympians#camp jupiter

Sara Boboltz at HuffPost:
Donald Trump has been working hard to distance himself from the Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025, a blueprint for a second Trump administration that would radically reshape the federal government and American life. Among other proposals, such as dismantling the U.S. Department of Education, the plan outlines how the government could keep detailed records on abortions and even obtain pregnant patients’ medical records without their consent.
As a whole, Project 2025 is highly controversial. Trump’s campaign leapt at the chance to disparage it once again on Tuesday, with the news that the project’s director, Paul Dans, was stepping down.
“President Trump’s campaign has been very clear for over a year that Project 2025 had nothing to do with the campaign, did not speak for the campaign, and should not be associated with the campaign or the President in any way,” Trump spokespeople Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita said in a statement. [...] But reporting indicates that the ties between Project 2025 and Trump’s campaign run deep. At least 140 people who worked in the Trump administration — including six former members of his cabinet — have been involved in the project, according to an investigation by CNN. At least 31 out of 38 people named as authors or editors on the 900-page plan are tied to Trump, USA Today reported.
[...]
The letter signed by Vance claims the Biden rule “unlawfully thwarts the enforcement of compassionate laws” against abortion and “directs health care providers to defy lawful court orders and search warrants.” “Abortion is not health care — it is a brutal act that destroys the life of an unborn child and hurts women,” the letter reads. A Trump-Vance presidency could see the Biden administration’s rule erased, allowing police and prosecutors in states led by Republicans to more easily go after people who decide to end their pregnancies. The rule also only goes so far — it doesn’t protect data from mobile phones, where many people track their menstrual cycles using apps. (The rule modifies the Health Insurance Portability And Accountability Act of 1996, known as HIPAA, which does not cover digital data.) “Donald Trump and his allies want to monitor people’s pregnancies in order to track and prosecute people for their pregnancy outcomes,” Jenny Lawson, executive director of Planned Parenthood Votes, told HuffPost.
Project 2025 indeed calls for such government tracking — under penalty of loss of federal health funding for states that don’t comply. “Because liberal states have now become sanctuaries for abortion tourism, HHS should use every available tool, including the cutting of funds, to ensure that every state reports exactly how many abortions take place within its borders, at what gestational age of the child, for what reason, the mother’s state of residence, and by what method,” it reads. “It should also ensure that statistics are separated by category: spontaneous miscarriage; treatments that incidentally result in the death of a child (such as chemotherapy); stillbirths; and induced abortion. In addition, CDC should require monitoring and reporting for complications due to abortion and every instance of children being born alive after an abortion,” the plan stated. The recommendations on abortion were written by a Trump-era HHS official, Roger Severino, according to Rolling Stone.
A potential Trump/Vance “Presidency” would be a disaster for pregnant people, as the Project 2025 document has endorsed the proposal of government-mandated tracking of abortion and pregnancy records.

New ask gameeee thanks for the tag @ylvisruinedmylife and @majorsoapfan
send me an emoji and i'll write a couple sentences for the corresponding WIP, both ongoing works, things I haven’t started yet but want to, and the travesties in the making that reside in my drafts✨
Don’t question the emojis they make sense to me and me alone I fear. I tried to summarize as best as possible but while brevity is the soul of wit, I fear I am terminally stupid:
❤️🔥The Losing Battle(We Won’t Stop Fighting) Treech and Lamina stay together during the Hunger Games
⛲️ I Didn’t Think I’d Care (But I’m Not Letting Go) the zoo gets blown up and the kids stay with their mentors, somehow this causes the end of the games and the downfall of Gaul’s career and plans
⚜️ Ragtag Group Of Kids Separately Escape Death Through Various Increasingly Stupid Means And Wreak Havoc, More At 11 crack fic where all sorts of fix-it ideas are mashed together to create the end of Gaul’s career, the President’s dignity, and the Capitol’s ego. It’s funny to me but I am not funny so…
🐍 Vipsania’s Version: Realizations Vipsania Sickle’s POV of the events of When The Clock Stops Ticking (We’ll Be Painted Red) where Treech and Reaper meet, fall in love, and lose each other as Treech becomes the victor of the 10th Hunger Games
🕰️ Treaper: The Extended Universe Time Travel AU of When The Clock Stops Ticking (We’ll Be Painted Red) @tumblingghosts graced me with where Treech and Reaper travel back in time following the events of the 10th Hunger Games to the first time they saw each other in the train, decide that they’re not gonna suffer through this all over again and change the world through the power of teamwork and emotional manipulation
🪷 Flowers Bloom In The Ash Of Our Past Where Treech is a Jehova’s Witness and Tanner is a leather wearing social outcast in High School. One learns to open themself up to the world beyond their rigid upbringing, the other learns to not judge the person based on their beliefs, but on their actions instead. And perhaps they can both find each other in the middle
🪸 Mythical Creatures All the tributes are some kind of mythical creature and the first part of the mentorship assignment is for the mentors to earn their tribute’s trust. This forces them to learn more about the districts as a whole and makes the Capitol realize the districts all have cultures just as rich, if not more so, than the Capitol itself. The tributes get to blow up Gaul’s lab and thus the Hunger Games with it.
🦊 They Don’t Bite (Yeah They Do) The districts are all animal shapeshifters and their cuteness ends the Hunger Games. No that’s it that’s the fic it’s just cute animals ruining Gaul’s life
🧞 A Girl On A Mission And Her Anxious Genie Lamina hates life until she finds a lamp, cleans it, and gets herself a genie named Treech in return. A very cute genie who gives her three wishes a day and is curious about the human world. On her quest to get back at bullies and solve the problems that pop up in her life, she drags her new genie friend around on adventures and may just score herself a boyfriend in the process.
🖋️ Written In Ink, Printed In Gold Lamina’s a famous author who meets Treech on a boulevard where he’s trying to sell his own books because no agent will take him for totally not racist reasons. They fall in love at first nerd-session and Lamina loves his book so much she vows to get him and authors like him the attention they deserve.
🔏 The Author And The Actor Lamina’s a world-famous author working on the adaptation of her most recent work when she overrules a casting decision made by the director because she thinks Treech, who was originally rejected, perfectly captures her vision of the male lead. Her originally white male lead. The people object, Lamina rejects their objection, bing bang romance.
⚔️ Of Medics And Mercy Non-romantic WW2 AU: Treech is a young Japanese war medic sent to aid the Germans in France in the summer of 1944. Tanner (USA), Reaper (Canada), Marcus (UK), and Facet (French resistance member) are a group of allied soldiers trying to take back France. They meet in a small French town when Treech ignores his orders to retreat to help an injured Tanner.
🔮 Growing Pains Harry Potter AU where TreeMina are childhood friends. Treech is a muggleborn sorted into Slytherin and Lamina is a pureblood sorted into Hufflepuff. They grow apart, especially when Lamina’s new friend start to bully Treech for being in the “bad house” and her attempts to remain ‘neutral’ push him away further and further. Years later, she realizes just how far apart they’ve grown and just how deep her love for him runs, but is it too late to fix things?
❄️ Charmed To Meet You Lamina, a Gryffindor whose friend group is known at Hogwarts for fighting a new evil each year, is trying to find a solution for an obstacle on their latest adventure when she stumbles across Treech. A Ravenclaw (in)famous for playing around with magic of all kinds purely out of curiosity for what might happen and occasionally inventing new spells/potions in the process. When he offers to help her in hopes of learning something new, he not only becomes a valuable part of the team by creating a new spell for them, but also possibly Lamina’s date to the Winter Ball…
♈️ Heavens Know What Earth Must Learn
The Districts all have Zodiac-related magic, but they can only use it when summoned by someone who has their Rune, an object that acts as the key to temporarily activating one’s magic. Whoever holds the Rune can force the person tied to it to do as the holder pleases. When the Districts lost the war, they were forced to give their magic item to a Capitol citizen once they’re old enough to use that magic. The mentors come in possession of the Runes of their canon tributes (no games in this universe though) they learn how cruel Capitol citizens can be and begin to realize the flaws in the system, slowly rallying the people behind them and overthrowing the government.
I’m going to tag @persephoneprice, @tumblingghosts and @cleverqueencommander (I’m gonna post about Descendants again soon I promise I’m just still trying to recover from The Rise Of Red) I am very sorry if you’ve been tagged already
#i decided to only include AU’s I actively plan to at least PARTIALLY write#whether I post or not is up for debate#i have a lot more AU’s obviously but these are the main ones#the ballad of songbirds and snakes#tbosas#the hunger games#10th hunger games#hunger games#treech#treech tbosas#tbosas treech#treech thg#fix it au#lamina#lamina tbosas#treemina#treaper#reaper ash#vipsania sickle#magic au#genie au#harry potter au#shapeshifter au#ww2 au#but like not romance#that one is not happy it’s four dudes trying not to go insane during a war#ask game

TW: Body horror, gore/violence, parasitism, cannibalism
"My tapeworm tells me what to do, my tapeworm tells me where to go!"
Identification: Mr. Cannibal
Responsible Researcher: Dr. Öctavio Kalev
ANM #: ANM-667
Classification: Snit 🟡 | Contained ⭕️
Type: Humanoid, parasitic, cannibalistic, intelligent
Damage Type: Manipulative, physical, mental
Confinement: ANM-667 must be accommodated in a standard humanoid containment room designed to resemble a rustic, rural home consistent with 19th-century Alabama architecture. The room should feature wooden paneling, antique furniture, and prominent religious symbols of Southern Christianity, such as crucifixes and images of saints. ANM-667 has shown a preference for this aesthetic, which is believed to mitigate its more erratic behavior.
ANM-667 must be provided a daily meal consisting of exactly 1 kilogram of human meat, sourced from ethical and legally pre-approved suppliers. ANM-667 has expressed a preference for "younger and more tender" meat, but this request must not be granted under any circumstances. Any additional requests for "gourmet ingredients" or "more flavorful delicacies" must be denied and immediately reported to the Department Command.
No personnel are allowed within 2 meters of ANM-667 unless under direct orders. All personnel entering the containment area must undergo psychological evaluation before and after interaction, as ANM-667 has demonstrated an ability for subtle psychological manipulation.
Under no circumstances should ANM-667 have access to any medical instruments, particularly scalpels, knives, or any tools used for dissection. It must be restrained during interviews, with two armed guards present at all times. Any erratic behavior or attempts to perform surgery on itself or others will be met with immediate sedation.
Description: ANM-667 is a male humanoid, approximately 2.09 meters tall and weighing around 100 kg, with a robust yet strong body type, despite the absence of visible muscles. He has been identified as "Jarvis Trevor," a former resident of Alabama, USA. He is a red-haired Caucasian man who exclusively dresses in a chic yet outdated suit, reminiscent of early 20th-century fashion. Despite the age and deterioration of the garments, they have not fully degraded, suggesting some anomalous preservative properties.
The most notable feature of ANM-667 is the presence of ANM-667-B, a parasitic human fetus located inside his abdominal cavity. ANM-667-B is connected to ANM-667 by a large umbilical cord that visibly pulses. The fetus displays no observable cognitive function but behaves parasitically, compelling ANM-667 to consume human flesh to sustain it. Though the host does not seem to complain or find it "unpleasant" to have a fetus inside his abdomen, it appears he has grown accustomed to it. It is believed that ANM-667 no longer possesses most of his internal organs, having been replaced or consumed by ANM-667-B over time.
ANM-667 can voluntarily open his abdominal cavity, revealing ANM-667-B. This display is accompanied by the grotesque but precise retraction of his rib cage and flesh, exposing the fetus, still connected by its umbilical cord. During this process, ANM-667’s behavior changes drastically: his eyes roll back, his voice becomes higher-pitched, and he frequently makes macabre references to horror films, literature, and culinary arts.
When in this state, ANM-667 often engages in theatrical performances, singing or reciting famous lines from classic horror films. On one occasion, ANM-667 sang a distorted version of Sweet Home Alabama while holding his abdominal cavity open, interspersing the lyrics with graphic descriptions of cannibalism and dismemberment. Personnel noted that ANM-667 seems to take delight in these displays, exhibiting a perverse pride in the grotesque spectacle.
In his calmer state, ANM-667 speaks in a refined and gentlemanly manner and claims to possess significant knowledge of human anatomy, surgery, and the culinary arts. He refers to his cannibalistic urges as "gourmet needs" and describes the consumption of human flesh as both a biological necessity and an art form. On several occasions, ANM-667 has attempted to offer culinary advice or suggest recipes involving parts of the human body, which he refers to as "noble cuts."
Despite his refined demeanor, ANM-667 is highly manipulative and prone to sudden outbursts of erratic behavior. He has been observed attempting to charm personnel into providing additional "delicacies," and those who refuse are often subjected to his psychological games. ANM-667 seems to derive pleasure from causing discomfort or fear in those around him, though he remains calm and composed while doing so.
At all times, Jarvis Trevor maintains a straight posture, moving with deliberate grace, while his speech is calm, measured, and articulate, as if every word is chosen with utmost care. He frequently speaks like a scholarly aristocrat, often citing classic horror literature, such as Bram Stoker's Dracula or works by Edgar Allan Poe. ANM-667 takes particular pleasure in discussing anatomy, surgical techniques, and gourmet cuisine, frequently interspersing his explanations with gruesome details about his own cannibalistic tendencies.
He frequently requests access to classic works of horror, demonstrating an unusual attachment to the genre. Among his favorites are Frankenstein, The Picture of Dorian Gray, and The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. ANM-667 has expressed admiration for the way these stories "understand the beauty of human fragility and transformation." He has also requested paper, ink, and quills on several occasions, claiming to be writing his own "treatise on the human condition." However, personnel have yet to review any completed works, as ANM-667 often burns his writings shortly after completing them, stating: "The world is not yet ready for such truths."
ANM-667 has shown a willingness to harm himself in order to feed ANM-667-B. In one notable incident, he calmly removed his own left eye using a scalpel and presented it to ANM-667-B. According to observers, he maintained his polite demeanor throughout the process, even apologizing to the staff for the "disturbance" his self-mutilation may have caused. ANM-667 has since replaced the missing eye with a vintage black eyepatch, which he wears with his usual sartorial elegance. When asked about the incident, ANM-667 simply smiled and said, "A necessary sacrifice. One must feed the body to sustain the mind."
Event Log – Frankenstein Experiment:
One of ANM-667’s most alarming behavioral incidents occurred shortly after he gained access to a copy of Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. ANM-667 appeared to be deeply fascinated by the novel, subsequently requesting additional medical textbooks and, notably, a book on human anatomy that included a section on early experiments with electricity in medical procedures. ANM-667 spent several days in a silent, meditative state after reading the novel, refusing all communication and meals.
On the sixth day, Dr. Jarvis broke his silence and requested access to a cadaver, under the pretext of demonstrating a medical procedure. His request was, of course, denied. However, two weeks later, during a containment breach event, ANM-667 somehow gained access to the medical wing, where he obtained a cadaver used for anatomical study.
Using an improvised defibrillator made from recovered equipment, ANM-667 attached electrodes to the chest of the cadaver and applied controlled electrical currents to the heart. What followed was a deeply disturbing display: the cadaver convulsed as the electricity passed through it, and after several minutes, the heart began to beat faintly. Although the body was by no means revived in the traditional sense, ANM-667's procedure managed to restore some degree of circulation to the lifeless cadaver. He described the experiment as "a tribute to dear Victor Frankenstein" while softly laughing to himself. Dr. Jarvis’s reaction to the partial success of the experiment was a mixture of triumph and curiosity.
Following the incident, ANM-667 was returned to his containment chamber, and the cadaver was promptly incinerated. ANM-667 has made no further attempts to revive the dead but has since spoken at length about "the possibilities of bringing life to the inanimate," drawing parallels between his parasitic relationship with ANM-667-B and the concept of resurrection.
He now frequently muses on the boundaries between life and death, often citing Victor Frankenstein’s own words: "What can stop the determined heart and resolved will of man?" ANM-667 has proposed that his own relationship with ANM-667-B is a form of "living resurrection," as the parasitic fetus sustains itself through the host's body, keeping both alive through a grotesque symbiosis. He has even suggested that his condition might be the "next step in human evolution," where death and life intermingle, not as opposites but as parts of a continuous cycle.
Despite the moratorium on providing ANM-667 with further scientific texts or any material related to resurrection, he continues to obsess over the topic. His fascination with the interplay between life, death, and electricity remains a potential threat, given his prior ingenuity in manipulating available resources to conduct such experiments. All personnel are advised to be vigilant and report any requests or suspicious activity from ANM-667 immediately. His erratic but brilliant mind remains a cause for concern.
Encounter Log ANM-667-6
Date: ██/██/20██
Location: Site-██, ANM-667's Containment Room
Subject: ANM-667 (Dr. Jarvis Trevor)
Secondary Subject: P-1622 (Male, 24 years old)
Note: P-1622 was selected for a routine interaction with ANM-667 due to his history of sociopathic tendencies and prior violent offenses. No prior interaction between ANM-667 and P-1622 was noted, and the purpose of this test was to observe Jarvis's behavior when introduced to an unfamiliar subject in a controlled environment.
[BEGIN LOG]
ANM-667 is seated in his containment chamber, impeccably dressed as always in his elegant, albeit outdated, suit. His eyepatch gleams faintly in the dim light, giving him an air of dark sophistication. He is sitting at a small wooden table, leafing through a copy of Edgar Allan Poe's The Tell-Tale Heart. His head lifts when the containment door opens, admitting P-1622 into the room.
ANM-667: (Closing the book gently) "Ah, another visitor. And quite a strong one, at that. How fortunate for us both."
P-1622 appears uncomfortable but maintains a neutral expression. Jarvis rises from his seat with slow, deliberate movements, his towering figure casting a shadow across the room. He approaches P-1622 with an air of gentlemanly grace, extending his hand.
ANM-667: "You’ll forgive me for not introducing myself sooner, dear guest. I am Jarvis Trevor—though I suspect you’ve heard me referred to by a more clinical designation. But here, in this moment, let us set aside those sterile titles, shall we?"
P-1622 hesitates, then shakes ANM-667's hand. His behavior suggests caution, though no outright hostility.
P-1622: "I’ve heard about you. They say you're… something else. But I don't see what’s so special."
ANM-667: (Smiling) "Ah, my dear boy, appearances are so deceiving. There’s much more to a man than he lets the world see. You and I, we're not so different, are we?"
P-1622 frowns slightly, uncertain of where ANM-667 is steering the conversation. Jarvis steps closer, his presence magnetic, yet subtly menacing.
ANM-667: "I sense you’re a man of desires. Hidden ones, perhaps repressed. But tonight, I offer you something… more intimate. A moment of tenderness in such a barren world. What do you say?"
P-1622 looks visibly confused, shifting uncomfortably.
P-1622: "What are you talking about?"
ANM-667 glides gracefully to a small, antique phonograph in the corner of the room. With a smooth motion, he winds the crank and sets the needle on the record. A slow, melodic tango begins to play. Jarvis turns back to P-1622, his face softening into a near-loving smile.
ANM-667: "Dance with me."
P-1622: (Taken aback) "What? No way. I don’t dance."
Jarvis closes the distance between them, his voice low, almost a whisper.
ANM-667: "Oh, but you will. Tonight, you and I will share something beautiful, something eternal. Come now, don’t be shy."
ANM-667 gently takes P-1622’s hand, his grip firm yet tender. P-1622 initially resists, but ANM-667’s persuasive, almost hypnotic charm draws him in. Slowly, they begin to move to the rhythm of the music, Jarvis leading with smooth, practiced steps. P-1622 follows, his discomfort gradually giving way to an odd sense of calm, as if enchanted by the elegance of the moment.
ANM-667: "You see? How the body flows, how the heart quickens. There’s art in this, my dear. In every movement, in every breath. Do you feel it?"
P-1622 remains silent, but his expression softens as he is drawn into the rhythm of the tango. They continue to dance, their bodies swaying in perfect harmony. Jarvis’s eye gleams with a predatory intensity, though his face remains serene, almost affectionate. After several moments, ANM-667 gracefully twirls P-1622, pulling him back into his arms, their faces just inches apart.
ANM-667: (Softly) "There, in your eyes. That flicker of understanding. You know what this is… don’t you?"
P-1622’s breath catches in his throat as ANM-667 leans in closer, brushing his lips in a tender, almost loving kiss. As ANM-667 pulls away, he gazes into P-1622’s eyes with a mixture of desire and inevitability.
ANM-667: "And now, my love… the final act."
Before P-1622 can react, ANM-667’s arm extends, pulling out the scalpel he had concealed within his sleeve. In one fluid motion, he drives the blade deep into P-1622’s chest, right between the ribs, aiming directly for the heart. The music swells as ANM-667 lowers P-1622’s body gently to the floor, cradling him as though they were still dancing.
ANM-667: (Whispering) "Shhh… it’s alright. It’s all part of the dance."
P-1622 gasps, his eyes wide with shock and confusion, blood spilling from the wound. Jarvis holds him close, stroking his hair with one hand while the other keeps the scalpel firmly in place.
ANM-667: "There, there. You were such a perfect partner, my dear. It’s a pity it has to end this way, but life is like that, isn’t it? All things must come to an end, but the beauty of it… the elegance of the finale… that’s something worth savoring."
P-1622’s body spasms, then goes limp in ANM-667’s arms. With a soft sigh, ANM-667 withdraws the scalpel, wiping it clean on a handkerchief before tucking it back into his pocket. He leans down, pressing a final kiss to P-1622’s lips.
ANM-667: "Goodnight, my dear. You were magnificent."
Jarvis stands, adjusting his suit with meticulous care. He turns off the phonograph, allowing the room to fall into silence. With a calm smile, he steps away from the body, returning to his seat and picking up his book once more as if nothing had happened.
[END LOG]
---
Note: After reviewing the log, all personnel involved in monitoring ANM-667 were placed under psychological evaluation due to the disturbing nature of the event. It is believed that ANM-667's behavior during the encounter was a carefully orchestrated manipulation, demonstrating his ability to blend charm, seduction, and murder into a single act of calculated cruelty.

“LeeAnne Roe,” 18 (USA 1970)
Thanks to New York’s pre-Roe legalization, many people died from “safe and legal” abortion. One of them was a teenage New York City resident who did not even survive the month.
18-year-old “LeeAnne” was perfectly healthy when she underwent a D&C surgical abortion at 13 weeks pregnant. She didn’t know that she was about to endure a series of terrible complications that would claim her life in less than three weeks.
LeeAnne quickly developed a pelvic abscess that needed medical attention. Draining it revealed not only fluid or pus, but the necrotic corpse of her baby. The corpse was removed from the abscess cavity, but the damage was done. In addition to the decaying human remains that rotted inside of her for several days, LeeAnne suffered a perforated uterus. She now had a horrible infection.
The injuries and infection were so severe that doctors had to perform a hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy to try to save her. At 18 years old, LeeAnne had lost her uterus, fallopian tubes and both ovaries. Even if she survived, her health and body would be permanently affected. She had no chance of ever having another child and would be facing an extremely early onset of menopause.
Despite aggressive intervention, LeeAnne’s sepsis progressed and she died on July 29, 1970. In 23 days, a perfectly healthy teenager lost her child, her reproductive organs and her life to “safe and legal” abortion.
“LeeAnne” is Patient 4

early ages.
it was quite clear from the beginning what charles lewis expected of his daughter. the patriotism of war had been ingrained in the blood of the lewis’for generations and he’d be damned if his only child ruined that. maybe if his wife, valentina had lived beyond her daughter’s birth that he wouldn’t have been so cold. maybe he would have been able to look at her properly and see his child instead of another future soldier.
unfortunately, this was not the case as valentina had indeed passed away after giving birth to ariadne. as an adult, she would meet those who knew her father before hand and almost every single one them told her that valentina’s death broke him, that he’d never been the same since. even so, having a father would have been nice. that was not her fate and as she spent her childhood bouncing around from military base to military base (hence the move from england back to her father's home in US when she was a child), she learnt to cope. she lost herself in books, taking her to worlds she had never dreamed of and music, which filled the often silent home.
growing up, there was never in doubt as to what she would do with her life. the moment she hit eighteen and graduated school, she’d be signing up for the military, just like her dad did and his dad before him and his dad before that. if she had siblings, maybe he wouldn’t have expected so much of her but there was no one else. as a teenager, she dared to dream that he might let her do something else. maybe study literature or become a translator, something that wasn’t war. that was not to be the case.
18 and up.
as soon as she was eighteen and graduated, ariadne enlisted into the army, much to her dismay. in an uncharacteristic moment of kindness however, charles allowed his child to enlist as a combat medic and not a soldier. if ariadne had her way, she wouldn’t have enlisted at all but at least she wouldn’t be the one charged with committing the violence herself.
upon starting training, the oddest thing occurred. ariadne woke up one day and realised that she no longer belonged to charles. instead, she belonged to the army now and for some reason, that didn’t feel as bad.
as expected with a brain like hers (plus having been raised by a major general), she blitzed through training and somewhere along the line, the army became her home. not to say that it was all sunshine and rainbows. ari’s eclectic nature had a habit of giving people the first impression that she either didn’t know what she was doing or didn’t take it seriously. neither of these things were true of course but people will always be people and people will always judge.
ari made the best of her life. she might have been in a career she didn’t choose but at least she got to help people and at least she was good (read: excellent) at it. she could still be considered a bit of an oddball among her peers but at least they had her back. she was content. Vaguely.
up until the age of twenty-six, ari’s life continued in much the same fashion, making the best out of a vaguely shitty situation. that was until she met emery. oh, emery. when she was first transferred to emery’s team, she was less than pleased. emery was the exact type of person that ari never got along with. however, one round of forced companionship on mission later and a what felt like an age’s worth of lesbian yearning later, and emery and ariadne were inseparable.
ari had never really known what it was like to be loved wholly. she sometimes found it quite difficult to both receive and express. but she got there. mostly. god knows emery was worth working through the childhood trauma (turns out that’s what that was) for.
by the time she was thirty-three, she raised through the ranks and found herself a sergeant and ready to go. charles had died in the few months previous and god knows it was time to let go of the expectations he had of her. it was time for her to do what she wanted, not what he wanted and she had made herself enjoy. two years later and it was finally time. she had just been honourably discharged and emery was next, there was just one more mission and that was it. emery and ariadne could disappear.
that had been the plan at least. but then the worst happened. emery died. the one time ariadne wasn’t there and emery and her whole team died in an explosion. ariadne’s life ended that day. she might have thrown herself into the dream that had been a life in academia, getting her undergraduate degree, her masters and finally her phd in literature but none of it mattered really. not like it should have. not without emery.
hell town.
it was supposed to be a celebration roadtrip. a ‘finished your phd and officially have free time for the first time in years and also let’s ignore that you haven’t figured out what you’re going to do with the rest of your life’ type of roadtrip. see the sights. do all the cheesy things. however, like everything else in her life it seemed, that didn’t go to plan. she ended up in arcadia and it wasn’t until her first night that she realised oh this is not fucking normal. in the few days since she arrived, she has taken on a role she thought she had permanently left behind. that of a medic. after all, no one needed a doctor of literature in a place like this. what they needed was a medic so she shook off the dust on her skills and that is what she became.
INQUIRIES ;
How did your muse spend their first night in Arcadia, and where?
the diner was supposed to be a mere stop off on her way to somewhere else but instead it was where she bore witness to the horrors of arcadia for the first time. it was where she hid when she realised there was something else, something she had never come across before. it was where she realised that for the second time in her life, the life she had created had just been ripped away.
Why did your muse choose to live where they do?
being a medic, it made the most sense. it was the one familiar thing in this chaos of unfamiliar and as the voice of charles reminded her, it was where she was the most useful.
What was your muse doing when they came across the tree?
she was on a road trip with no real goal in mind. she had put the closest touristy place in the gps and had given it no further thought. until her gps started messing around and she had to rely on her own (dodgy, despite the efforts of both the her father and the army) sense of direction. the tree had only caught her attention due to it’s similarity to a tree in a book she read.
Has your muse left anything behind that they are desperately trying to return to or escape?
no. to want to return to something, there must be someone to return to and there was no one.

BIRTH NAME: Emery Charlene Fernsby NICKNAMES: Em, Fernsby, Sergeant GENDER: Cis woman, she/her BIRTHDATE: August 16th, 1980 AGE: 44 BIRTHPLACE: Selma, Alabama, USA HOMETOWN: Fort Carson, Colorado, USA RESIDENCY: Communal House, Arcadia/Hell Town OCCUPATION: Leader of Communal House SEXUALITY: Lesbian RELATIONSHIP STATUS: Married
early ages.
Born to Michael and Jane Fernsby, the couple hadn't counted on having a child. In fact, the pregnancy had been fairly unwanted. Yet, both raised religiously, they were very pro-life and took it upon themselves to raise a child. But taking care of a baby took a toll on them both, Jane suffered from postnatal depression and Michael took after his father's alcoholism problem. He disappeared most nights to the bar as Jane rather let Emery cry for hours than take care of her. That's the childhood she remembers, the alcoholic father with anger issues and the emotionally distant mother. During her childhood she was always behind in school, she was behind in socializing and didn't have any friends. Because of her father's behavior, she acted up too, picked fights with other children who made fun of her, she swore a lot for her age. When her personality issues became a problem at the town's public school, she got sent to a religious one instead.
18 and up.
The day Emery turned 18, she packed her bags overnight and ran away from home. She ran away as far as she could and signed herself up for the army in Alabama. Her parents never batted an eye at her disappearance, they couldn't care less. And Emery couldn't care less about her parents either. She found solace in the army, after a rough couple of months of getting taught discipline, of learning to let go of her old self. No more picking fights, no more kids play. For the first time in her life, she was equal to others in her rank. For the first time in her life she knew what it was like to have a home. The army became Emery's actual home. She toughened up in a different way, the army shaped her into a better person. She learned what it meant to have respect for one another. To trust one another. To rely on one another. It took years for Emery to deal with her traumatic past, one day at a time. One thing she knew for sure; she was free now.
At 28 her life changed for the better. It was the introduction of a new face to the team she'd gotten tight with, a woman whose guts Emery hated so. The medical addition to the team after their previous one had been relocated was nothing to Emery's likings. The woman was like a slap to her face and Emery made sure to let her know they'd be better off without her every step of the way. The army had none of her behavior and sent the two off together on a field mission. Emery had to learn how to stop picking fights all over again, like a little kid. Little did she know that the reason why she acted the way she did, was because of underlying feelings she never had before. The two learned to trust each other after long days of having to only deal with each other. A friendship grew, which only made Emery excel at her job. Until the friendship became much more than that and feelings came into play heavier than before.
After taking forever tiptoeing around one another, their friendship changed to a romantic relationship. Which eventually led to marriage. The talk of living together. The talk of even leaving the army, if it meant they could live a safer life. Never did they leave one another's side, they were a team after all.
At 35, Emery made it to the rank of Sergeant. She was in charge now of the younger soldiers. She went on less field missions and remained stationed at base to teach the ones who were still so naive. She made it to the other side of where she once stood, young and so stupidly dumb. Her time of being Sergeant was rather lived short, Emery and her wife were planning on leaving the army soon. The sooner rather became later, it still took two years before they - mostly Emery - found solace in leaving the army. Emery only had one last field mission to fulfill, this time without her wife by her side.
hell town.
Her arrival and first night in town was quite literally Hell. It would've been her last mission before she'd drop out of the army, for her wife, for the two of them to start a new life. Away from all the danger and off to a house in the suburbs with a picket fence. With three soldiers she got sent off to another base, this time without her wife by her side. It would just be a quick mission, she'd be gone for a day or two, nothing crazy. They drove the roads they'd driven plenty of times before, only for the scenery to change to unfamiliar grounds and a strange town to appear after they came across the tree in the road. As the sun had set, their car got stopped by Them and gunshots had taken over when panic had set into her companions' minds. Emery had barely made it out alive, having experienced a trauma she never could've imagined. Something far worse than all those years she'd served in the army.
Over time it became clear that there was no escape from town. Somewhere along the line she'd taken leadership of the common house, a place where she found solace among other people. With her experience as a sergeant in the army, leadership comes to her quite easy. She's there for new people who also fall victim to the curse of town, no matter what residency they choose. Everyone in town has the same goal eventually: try to find a way out - to return back home.
inquiries.
How did your muse spend their first night in Arcadia, and where? When the lives of all three of the soldiers she was with were brutally taken by Them, Emery made a run for the closest building she laid eyes on. After the commotion of gunshots caused by the panicked minds of her companions, they had been Their first targets. Emery somehow made it out of the car and found shelter in the radio station not too far ahead.
Why did your muse choose to live where they do? The common house, Emery has a hard time being by herself. That's when the demons come and plague her mind, she can't handle isolation, most especially not during the night. It's how the army has always been her home, always surrounded by people, just like the common house grants her the feeling of protection.
What was your muse doing when they came across the tree? On their way to what should've been Emery's last field mission in the army, it quite literally became her last trip for the army. The sun had gone down rather sooner than later, they should've arrived at their destined post already. But the GPS in the car had been acting up, their surroundings were unfamiliar to the roads they'd driven so many more times before, they'd encountered the tree in the road and the strange town a couple of times before the trusted soldiers she was with even started to doubt themselves. It was close to the gas station, they were stopped by people in the streets. Except... these weren't people. When They started to surround the car, it was clear this was more than a fever dream.
Has your muse left anything behind that they are desperately trying to return to or escape? Her wife/partner. The love of her life. Her home. Aside from the place she once called her second home, the army, it is losing her soulmate that plagues her the most.
wanted connections.
THE LOVE OF HER LIFE: The woman she met in the army, the woman whose guts she hated to her core, the woman who she got partnered up with and had to trust with her life and vice versa, the woman she eventually caught feelings for, the woman she married, the woman she devoted her entire life to. ⸻ TAKEN
THE ONE SHE CALLS HER BEST BUDDY: Emery lost her army mates the first night she arrived and has been by herself ever since. She's very closed off about the private life she had before entering Hell Town, but this person she trusts telling more than anybody else.
THE PROTÉGÉ('S): A newcomer or younger person who she's been helping out growing comfortable, even though there is no such thing, in this place. Someone she's taken under her wing and spends time with during the day or night.

@aijatar regarding your question on tick-borne illness, I decided to make a separate post to answer.
This image is from the CDC info page on tickborne illness, and shows 8 different types. It's a bad graphic in my opinion, because it looks quite muddled; looks better if you zoom way in, though. Oops, no! If you zoom in far enough to see individual counties, the map turns black and the colored dots are tiny and almost impossible to see. Well, crap.
I don't have the spoons to type out (and spell-check) all 8 diseases, but you can check the CDC site for more info. My son had Babesia/Babesiosis (both spelling seem to exist in medical documents?). Babesia is similar to malaria, and characterized by lengthy fevers (over ten days, sometimes) that come and go in cycles. Son would spend two weeks absolutely knocked out from fever and fatigue, appear to get better, then rinse and repeat. Despite the fact that this is a crystal clear sign of malaria (in the tropics) and babesia ( in the eastern USA), it took us three years to get a diagnosis. And believe me, we were trying. He spent two more years on powerful antibiotics and anti-malaria meds (it's so similar to malaria that it responds to the same drugs). This was ages 13 - 18, and pretty much dominated his life for that time.
Honestly, I think permanent damage was done to his immune system and - just overall? He has never had as much energy as he should, for a well-nourished young adult. He gets sick from colds/flu really easily, and takes longer to get better. If we had only had competent medical help when I was telling his local Dr about the VERY CHARACTERISTIC AND NOTABLE pattern of fevers that act exactly like malaria.
Anyhow. This info is us-centric, but it behooves any of us who spend time outdoors to learn about the different illnesses, because you really can't count on getting a Dr's help unless you are informed enough to hand-feed them the info AND request tickborne-illness specialists if you suspect a problem. Yes, I am permanently salty about it. God bless the specialist we eventually found; she was great. NONE of the thousands of dollars of tests and treatment he needed were covered by our insurance.

Rhys is a tall gentleman that bears a strong resemblance to his son Dick with nearly identical facial structure and build, but Rhys has more facial hair and is entirely silver-haired. He wears a white lab coat, a dark green dress shirt, brown slacks, black shoes and a black bow tie. Lastly, a pair of brown-framed glasses sit over his brown eyes.
Synopsis
The father of Richard "Dick" Wells, stepfather of Arthur Wright and husband of Amelia Wright-Wells, Rhys is a physician hailing from Wales. His first wife, Dick's mother, died when the boy was barely more than a toddler. Following her death, Rhys and Dick moved to Concordia for a new, better life. Here, Rhys established a medical practice and began serving the community.
A few years after moving to Concordia, Rhys met Amelia Wright at a production of A Midsummer Night's Dream by the local theatre. He's not ashamed to admit it felt like love at first sight, but he was still nervous to pursue a new relationship even though his first wife had been deceased for years. He was worried Dick would think he was trying to replace his mother, so they took things slow, starting as friends until they were ready to take the next step. And when their relationship had gotten serious enough to introduce each others' children, Rhys was glad the first meeting had gone well. His son was ecstatic at the idea of finally having a little brother, and Arthur seemed interested in having an older brother, too.
Eventually, Rhys and Amelia married, uniting their two families into one. Life was great for the Wright-Wells family. Of course, they had their issues, but their love stayed strong through it all. As his sons grew up, Rhys encouraged them to pursue their dreams which led to Arthur joining the police academy and Dick entering medical school. He was proud of the paths both of his sons had chosen and was even prouder when they announced they would be founding members of Concordia's new Flying Squad.
During the current timeline of the series, Rhys made his first appearance when he stepped in as temporary coroner after Dick became a suspect in Heartbroken. While his primary profession is family medicine, Rhys holds a pathology degree and is a certified coroner. He has always told his sons that he would be there if they needed his help. So, he assisted the Flying Squad with the case and was happy to hear that Dr. Hart's killer had been caught even if who it was and the reason for the murder were heartbreaking…
After the case was solved, he, Amelia, the Flying Squad, and their families attended Kilian Bontemps's equestrian performance. He also met Jason's mother, the first and only recipient of Hestia's Heart. Seeing how the invention had replaced the woman's heart was fascinating, and Melaina welcomed him to read her files to learn more about the medical marvel. Rhys also promised to keep Dick from overwhelming her as his son was even more excited about the invention than his father was.
More to be revealed in Murders of The Past
Organization(s)
Concordian Flying Squad
Rank: Coroner
Story Information
First appeared: Heartbroken
Trivia
He is based on an IRL doctor I work with
Amelia was hesitant to take her husband's surname when they married due to past trauma involving changing her surname. So, Rhys offered to hyphenate his name with her if she chose to take the Wells name. Their sons didn't hyphenate their names like the couple did, and to this day, most people still refer to Amelia as a Wright, while people call Rhys a Wells
He still operates a medical practice, though he only does family medicine now. But he does also practice other fields like obstetrics and gynecology
Rhys and Dick did and still do experiments together. Rhys isn't as crazy as Dick is with his experiments, but he still supports his son's endeavours and is always there to patch Dick up after an experiment backfires. And while he'll always worry about his son's safety, Rhys knows Dick would never intentionally put himself in danger in the name of science… Most of the time!
He is good friends with Leopold Rochester. This is also the friend he was referring to in Heartbroken when he says he knows one of the World Exhibition sponsors

7th of May 1865 saw the birth of Jessie MacLaren MacGregor in Edinburgh.
MacLaren MacGregor was one of the first women to be awarded an MD by The University of Edinburgh, along with Elsie Inglis she was instrumental in setting up the Muir Hall of Residence for Women Students in Edinburgh, and a Hospice on the Royal Mile, a nursing home and maternity hospital for poor women.
Jessie was a student of Sophia Jex-Blake at the Edinburgh School of Medicine for Women and was one of the first women to undertake a medical degree at the University of Edinburgh, after the barriers to women qualifying as doctors were removed by the University.
She took her Bachelor of Medicine degree in 1896, achieving first-class honours in every subject in the curriculum, passing all her professional examinations in the shortest time possible, and being awarded the Arthur Scholarship. 3 years later, she took her MD (Doctor of Medicine), winning a gold medal for her thesis on the comparative anatomy of the auditory nerve.
In 1905, for family reasons, she left her practice in Edinburgh and emigrated to the Denver, Colorado, USA, but in 1906 sadly died at the age of 42 of acute cerebral meningitis.
A wee add on to this post, the actual first women to be awarded an MD was Margaret Anne Bulkley, better known as Jammes Barry. Margaret was born a female and lived as ne in her/his childhood, on entering the Universityof Edinburgh and the years after, James Barry is the name he/she used. Barry lived as a man in both public and private life, at least in part in order to be accepted as a university student, and to pursue a career as a surgeon. Barry's anatomy became known to the public and to military colleagues only after he death and a post mortem examination., for 58 years Margaret lived as Barry.
Barry had a destinghished career as an surgeon in the Britsih Army, reaching the rank equivelant to a lieutenant. After it became public The British Army, seeking to suppress the story, sealed Barry's service records for the next 100 years.
