A Tribute To Helmets
I grew up during the Apollo space missions, and whilst I didn't show a particular interest in NASA's exploits, I received a kid's space suit and helmet as a present. I vividly recall how different things sounded when I put the helmet over my head. I think that was the point when my kinky fascination for helmets began.
From my childhood, I remember watching an episode of the early Flash Gordon series (in monochrome) where Ming places a helmet on the head of one of his dissenting subordinates. Once the helmet was strapped on, the man became compliant, passive and drone-like.
At that moment I realised that something designed for safety and protection could also have very nefarious uses. Combined with visual and audio stimulation, the helmet could also contain electronic circuitry that can disrupt the natural processes in the brain. Helmets could also contain syringes, which can deliver chemicals and other substances directly into the head to suppress and indivual's throughts.
Tumblr media
So here is my AI tribute to the Helmet, and how, when placed on the head it can strip away emotion, knowledge, purpose and individuality.
This man in his early twenties was just starting out in life. He had dreams of being successful, having the perfect suburban life - wife, kids and the kind of home people dream of. He had just agreed to join a multinational conglomerate, and as part of his induction he was required to take a medical. So on the appropriate day at the specifed time he turns up for what he thought would be a routine appointment.
Tumblr media
On arrival, he was taken into a private room. He was asked to disrobe and was given a set of leathers and boots to wear, which, despite all his reservations he put on.
Tumblr media
Once the leathers were zipped up and boots were on his feet, he was escorted to a room where a lab assistant placed a full-face helmet onto his head. He was then taken into a room filled with tech and video screens. The technician typed some commands into a computer and the helmet activated.
Tumblr media
Isolated wearing the helmet, he was subjected to audio and visual stimulation; stripping away his own throughts and identity. Replacing it with a predetermined 'template', which the company would deploy as necessary. Thoughts of family, kids and friends replaced with absolute loyalty to the company.
Tumblr media
'Physical' completed, the company has deployed him 'into the field'. Now a biker, his primary objective is to ride around and recruit candidates to join the company.
Meanwhile...
Tumblr media
Some scientists are about to record the disruptive effects of their advanced helmets on three 'volunteers'. Once the helmets are fitted the volunteers will follow instructions and head to drone processing.
Elsewhere, two cyclists have been given new 'aerodynamic' helmets for a week to try.
Tumblr media
Affixed to their heads, they will have no desire to ever remove their helmets - ever.
Sticking with a sport theme, the new coach has provided the team with revolutionary and technologically advanced helmets. These not only offer superior protection to the head, but also allow the coach a direct interface into the players' minds. It's going to be a successful season for this team.
Tumblr media
There are worried faced amongst this army platoon - and they should be worried.
They will follow the General's orders to place the helmet on their heads. When they do their individual thoughts will become suppressed as they turn into droned soldiers. No more briefings, no reliance on old technology like radio transmissions, which can be hacked into by the enemy. The helmet will ensure all orders issued by the commanders are transmitted directly into their brains.
Tumblr media
There are changes afoot in civilian life too. A new force for law and order is being created. One by one members of the police force are invited to undergo a routine medical.
Tumblr media
Soon they will all be fitted with helmets; permanently connecting them directly to the company network, with orders transmitted directly into their brains.
There is to be a zero tolerance of crime - even minor misdemeanors. So they begin to 'clean up the streets'.
Tumblr media
Chavs and scallies are rounded up and each one is fitted with a helmet...
Tumblr media
Once the work of the helmet is done, a new 'drone' is sent out onto the streets as a 'recruiter' for the company.
Tumblr media
They're also recruiting in colleges and universities...
Tumblr media
And back in the boardroom, the executives are monitoring progress of the company's plan.
Tumblr media
Each member of the so-called 'C-suite' has been given a helmet to allow speedier decision making and negate the need for laptops, smartphones and video screens. Directly connected to the company's network through their helmet, they follow the instructions fed directly into their brains - following them to the letter. After all each helmet ensures they are exemplary servants of the company.
Hope you enjoyed my AI tribute to the helmet. Depending on the feedback I might do a second helmet blog.
Oh, in case you were wondering which is my favourite helmet, it's my Arai Corser, pictured below.

Family doctors frustrated with writing sick notes have created a template letter for patients to give to their employers, explaining that the notes place an unnecessary burden on physicians during an ongoing primary-care crisis.  They are also calling on the province to restrict when and how employers can ask for sick notes.  The template, addressed "Dear Employer" and signed by the B.C. Family Doctors organization and the B.C. College of Family Physicians, begins with the line: "Please treat this letter as a sick note." It goes on to say doctors are experiencing increasing workloads and burnout, and need to focus on medical care.  "An appointment with a family doctor is a precious resource," said B.C. Family Doctors president Tahmeena Ali, adding that the template, created in February, was drafted "to send a message that sick notes are unnecessary."

Tumblr media
Being a soloist certainly wasn’t easy. Especially if you live alone.
Changbin felt pretty lonely, watching as all the other groups in JYP file into their dorms after a long JYP NATION concert.
He watched as all the members congratulated each other with hugs and happiness, and that feeling of loneliness only increased.
He smiled and waved at everyone until he got back to his dorm, following by shutting the door and then facing the dark silence.
He usually feels at home, but the place only feels cold now.
Sometimes, he regretted choosing to work alone. Other times, he realizes that he’s too shy to work with other people.
Changbin slumped down onto his couch, hating the way his stomach rolled up and fixing his posture.
He wished he had someone who would help him feel the same love as the others did. But that was impossible.
The days only passed, his break becoming filled with his thoughts. He had no one else to think about.
Soon enough, this mindset became increasingly draining, leaving Binnie exhausted constantly from overthinking and feeling overwhelmed.
However, the company noticed this soon enough, and they scheduled him a psychological evaluation for the next day.
Changbin scowled at the schedule. He hated doctors visits.
The questions that his doctor asked him always made him feel small and uncomfortable, and he was certainly not looking forward to it happening again.
But it had to be done.
The next morning, he prepared himself for the crippling questions that pierced through his confidence, hoping that maybe, maybe things would be better today.
Changbin arrived at his appointment on time, making sure that his doctor had nothing to criticize.
But it wasn’t his doctor.
“Mhm…Ah! Seo Changbin?” A man said, smiling sweetly at him.
“T-That would be me.” Changbin cursed at himself internally for stuttering. He probably looked like a idiot.
“Right this way.”
Changbin tried not to scrunch his nose up at the strong smell of hand sanitizer, it was making his eyes water.
The man, whose name tag said ‘Christopher Bang Chan’, led him to the room, where Binnie took a seat on the chair.
He prepared himself for the uncomfortable questions. He was an idol after all. He was used to this.
However, this doctor didn’t say anything like that at all.
“How are you feeling today?” Chris asked with a dimply smile.
“I’m feeling good…” Changbin lied, the words came so easily to him.
“I don’t think so.” Christopher replied nonchalantly as he pressed a sphygmomanometer [blood pressure cuff] to the rapper’s chest.
“Your blood pressure's increased drastically...are you okay?” Chris furrowed his eyebrows at Changbin.
“I guess idol work has me feeling a little anxious, nothing more I guess…” Changbin trailed off, avoiding eye contact with the doctor as if it was embarrassing.
But instead of making him feel uncomfortable, Chris had actually listened.
“What part of your work makes you feel this way? Is it the producing, the deadlines, the performances…?” Chan smiled sweetly at Changbin as he spoke, leaving the shorter feeling considerably relieved and relaxed.
“I think I just feel a little…lonely?” Changbin tried to communicate, feeling as if he needed to more in depth, but before that could happen, Chan cut him off.
“Ahhh, you’re a soloist, right? That makes sense. I think you just need to have a good time with someone who wants to be around you. That one thing could decrease that feeling.” Chris diagnosed, scribbling on his notepad.
“Oh-Okay. But I…” Changbin didn’t feel like saying more.
He didn’t have friends. At least, friends who wanted to be around him for his personality and not his money.
“-You don’t have friends.” Chris replied, smiling at the way Bin’s eyes widened.
“You are famous. It makes sense. There’s nothing to worry about. I’m retiring from this job soon. I’m going to become a producer, so you’ll probably see me around.” Chris talked, clearly trying to cheer the rapper up.
“O-Okay.” Changbin didn’t know how to respond, but he was considerably happier knowing that the doctor was going to do what he loved.
“We have another way to fix that, but only if you want to…” The taller clicked his pen a few times before checking a box on his sheet.
Let’s say Binnie was a little more than desperate. “That’s okay, I want to do it.” He replied, smiling shyly back at his doctor.
“Okay, let me call the psychologist, his name is Minho, by the way, and he will explain the procedure.” Chris stood up and left the room, leaving Changbin waiting on the chair.
Tumblr media
“Good afternoon.” A man walked into the room, who Changbin presumed to be Minho.
“Good afternoon.” Changbin replied quietly, feeling a little shy.
“Right. So Chan told me everything, so I’m here to explain the procedure.” Minho stared down at his clipboard as he spoke.
“Okay…” Changbin watched as Minho took his seat, leaning forward to clasp the rapper’s hands with his own.
“Do you know the effects of laughing on a human being?” Minho almost whispered.
“Laughing lets you release endorphins, and enhanced your intake of oxygen.” Binnie recalled.
“Oooh, we have a smart man here!” Minho smiled heartily down at him, squeezing his hands once, which Changbin found surprisingly relaxing.
“So we have to find a way to destress you, and make you laugh.” Minho continued, Changbin nodding along with him.
“So, we’re going to have to take an injection. Are you scared of needles?”
Changbin shook his head, confused.
But if the company trusted this psychologist enough to assign him to Changbin, then he must be safe.
Minho walked over to Changbin and gently removed his jacket, causing the younger to shiver from the sudden chill hitting his skin through his tank top.
“Oh, you’re wearing the perfect shirt. I don’t even need to do anything!” Minho gently took Bin’s arm in his hand and lifted it above his head, earning a little squeak in return.
Minho pulled a long piece of metal from the table and strapped Changbin’s hand to it, high above his head, making sure it stretched just enough not to hurt, adjusting the strap so that it was snug, but not uncomfortable.
The psychologist did the same with the other arm, guiding Binnie to a sitting position and strapping his legs down as well.
“How is this going to help me laugh?” Changbin asked, nerves increasing as he tried to unsuccessfully pull his arms down.
Minho just smiled and scribbled up the boy’s side.
Binnie squeaked loudly and jerked away, his eyes widening in realization.
No. They wouldn’t. Would they?
A bewildered Changbin watched as Minho opened a box and grabbed a needle, sterilizing it before walking over.
“This’ll hurt for a few seconds, then it’ll feel really tingly, okay?” Minho smiled when Binnie nodded, bracing himself.
The needle went in, piercing the underside of his bicep, and nothing could’ve prepared Changbin for the pain that followed.
However, he held it back. A few strained whimpers escaped him, but most of it was muffled.
“Okay. We’re done. You okay?” Minho patted Binnie’s bicep, eyes widening in awe at the size of it.
The older attached a bandage to the bleeding point.
“Mhm.” Changbin suddenly felt extremely tingly, the feeling spreading from the area on his bicep, down his arm, and throughout his body.
He stifled a giggle at the incredibly ticklish sensation.
“Okay, I would tell you what this injection does, but I think it’s better if I show you.” Minho called Chris back into the room, who looked delighted to see the shortest okay.
"Okay! How was the injection? I bet it hurt, huh? Well, how about we cheer you up..." Chan gave the pinned boy an evil smirk before ducking his hands down and squeezing once at his side.
The youngest jerked harshly with a loud squeal.
Changbin didn’t think he was that ticklish…but his thoughts were cut out a few seconds later by his own laughter.
Chan’s fingers continued to tickle all over his torso lightly, and the eldest watched as Changbin muffled his own giggles by biting his lip and hiding his face in his bicep.
“Aweee! He’s so cute! Don’t try to hold it in, that shot was just to make you more sensitive.” Chan teased, giggling when Changbin’s face turned a bright pink.
“mhmhmAHAHAHA!” Changbin squealed through his laughter as Minho joined in at his underarms, and the fact that he was wearing a tanked shirt made the unbearable feeling at his bare underarms insanely strong.
Changbin tugged at his arms, forgetting that they were pinned high above his head, leaving him at the complete mercy of the two doctors.
“PLEHEHEASE! WHYHY AHARE YOUHU TIHIHICKLING MEHEHE?!?” Changbin made out through his loud hysterics.
“Eh. You were cute and needed a laugh. Why else~?” Minho teased even further, moving slightly further down and startling himself with the scream that the helpless boy underneath him emitted.
“NAHAHAT THEHEHERE!” Binnie cackled, suddenly throwing his head back when Chan’s hands curled around to his back, leaving the boy twisting and squirming weakly.
“Fine. Later, though.” Minho frowned, instead moving downwards and squeezing Changbin’s thighs.
“NOHOHO IHIHITS TOOHO BAHAHAHAD! AAAAAHH DONT!” Chan’s fingers had resorted to digging at his v-line, throwing the youngest into another round of loud laughter.
Changbin had never felt more ticklish in his life.
He was pretty sure the shot was to make him more ticklish, even Chan had said so.
Binnie didn’t even know it existed. He wasn’t complaining though, he definitely felt better than before.
“AHAHAHAHA! PLEASE! STOHOHOHOP!-” Bin screeched, the feeling becoming way too overwhelming for him to handle.
“Okay, break time!” Both boys let up on the heaving boy, who panted and gasped for breath.
“ahaha…whyhy…” Changbin let out the last few giggles, smiling softly up at the two lers.
“Never mind that. Why are you so freakin’ cute?!” Chan squeaked, pinching softly at the youngest’s cheeks.
Changbin couldn’t help but blush, only to giggle lightly when the other two cooed even more.
He finally caught his breath, only to start squealing again when Minho stroked lightly along the area between his armpit and highest rib, an obvious weak spot.
The metal strap above his head clanged, Binnie squirming around as Minho dug one hand into the previously mentioned area.
“AGGHAHAHAHA! PLEHEHAHAHA-” Changbin screamed uncontrollably and thrashed desperately at the insanely ticklish sensation.
"Ouuu, this must be your worst spot!" Lino looked like he had found a pot of gold, making sure to contast the tickles on each side of Binnie's chest, one side lightly stroking, and the other side digging harshly.
"NOAHAHAHA! MINHO! MIHIHINHO PLEASE!"
Changbin didn't know which side to twist, both types of tickles were absolute torture for the poor soloist.
"He's too adorable! What's wrong bun? Someone's got the giggles?~" Chan cooed in a baby voice, squeezing Changbin's cheeks as he giggled at the flustered blush on the boy's face.
"Come on Chris! Help me tickle him! He isn't laughing hard enough!" Minho scolded, ignoring the loud screech emitted from the rapper.
"NOOOHO CHRIS DOHON'T HELP! I'LL DIHIHIE! PLEASE-"
"Of course you won't die! We're doctors, we know when to stop!" Chan glanced at the machine situated behind Binnie, which displayed the boy's statistics.
He was going to tap out soon.
Changbin begged and begged, tears streamed down his face, and he was twisting in every direction humanely possible.
Then Chris wriggled his fingers deep into the crevices of Binnie’s ribs, driving the helpless boy underneath him ballistic.
Changbin screamed as loud he could, which was pretty loud, and desperately tugged at his arms, which were infuriatingly still strapped above his head, unwilling to crash down anytime soon.
"OOH he's so loud!" Chan whined, as if he wasn't the one breaking the poor boy beneath them.
"Good thing the room's soundproof. It sounds like we're murdering him!" Minho winced as he pulled another scream from the soloist beneath him.
But Changbin would be lying if he said he hated it.
"Say that you're happy, and we'll stop." Chan decided to give the poor boy a chance.
“BAHAHAHA! STAHAHAHAP! IHIHIM HAHAHAHAPPY!!!”
And just like that, the torture stopped.
Chris unbuckled his wrists, and Changbin slumped, breathless, against the chair.
Minho handed him a pill and a glass of water.
"What's this fohor?" Changbin stared at the small pill resting in his palm.
"It's the antidote for that injection you took. Though I would have liked it to stay like that, don't ya think?~" Minho teased, wiggling a singular finger in Binnie's face and watching him squirm.
The soloist popped the pill before downing the glass of water, slumping backwards against the chair and panting slightly.
“Do you feel better?” Minho asked, gently rubbing at his sore wrists.
“Y-Yehea…” Binnie gave them a wide smile, and Minho couldn’t help but squish his cheek again.
“Sorry ‘bout that. It’s kinda something we do for anxious or sad patients. Especially idols who need a laugh. You feeling better?” Chan giggled nervously.
“Y-Yeah. I’m definitely coming back later.” Changbin flushed when the other two cooed at him, exchanging numbers with him.
-----
Changbin went back to his dorm, the flat looking a lot more comforting than before.
He slept. A lot.
Then someone knocked on his door.
Distracted from the light of his laptop (chop chop cooking up a hotpot-), Binnie opened the door.
"Hi! I'm apparently supposed to join your group? I'm your new leade-WAIT. Changbin?!" Chan squealed.

Writing Interview Tag!
Big thanks to @moltenwrites for the tag! I've seen this going around and was hoping to be tagged at some point. *rubs hands together* There'll be a readmore at the bottom with the templates for both desktop and mobile.
About me
When did you start writing?
Very young, around 5-6. I remember there was homework where the teacher gave everyone a list of words and asked us to write a sentence with each word. I would turn in a paragraph for each instead 😂 When I was 14 I was writing a lot of Doctor Who fic on FFnet (I can't believe that was 16 years ago 💀) and during the lockdown I started writing again for something to do.
Are there different genres or themes you enjoy reading other than the ones you write?
I don't think so? Sorry, that's a really unsatisfying answer, I know. It's like when you're asked what your favourite book is and you instantly forget every book you've ever read 😂
Is there an author you want to emulate, or are compared to often?
Is this gonna be weird? Probably. Am I gonna fight through the anxiety anyway? Sure, you betcha! @septembriseur is one of the best writers I have ever had the pleasure of reading. Your Telford is second to none. Thank you.
Can you tell me a bit about your writing space?
Just sitting in my bed cradling my laptop. Despite only being 3 and a half years old it's got a whole host of things wrong with it, the most problematic being a loose connection somewhere inside the charging port. To be able to charge I have to sit in a very specific position and stay still, with a metal water bottle braced against the charging cable to keep it pushed in, another cable tied around it with an elastic band and hooked over the opposite side of the laptop. It's... honestly not the best lol. But it's a gaming laptop so getting it fixed would probably be expensive and I just don't have the money.
What’s your most effective way to muster up a muse?
Am I allowed to say drugs? 😂 I'm prescribed ADHD meds and Pregabalin for anxiety, and they both help me focus enough to get words down on the page. I'd be pretty screwed without them tbh. I had an appointment with a doctor today and am getting an instant release ADHD medication added to my prescription as the extended release wears off by mid-to-late afternoon, so maybe I'll be able to get another daily writing session in when I take that!
Did the place(s) you grew up in influence the people and/or places you write about?
Hn. I want to say not really, but it must have influenced me in some way, right? Kids are sponges and will soak up and mimic the behaviours of the adults around them, and often people will reach adulthood with opinions and ideas that they don't even realise were created by an outside influence.
Are there any reoccurring themes in your writing? If so, do they surprise you?
QUEER! And no, it doesn't surprise me at all. 😂 I love writing about self-discovery, characters figuring out they can grow outside of the box society has built for them.
Characters
Would you please tell me about your current favorite character?
So, uh, I'm just gonna link y'all here, where I ramble on about David Telford from Stargate Universe for fucking ages. He's in my brain spinning plates as we speak. (He never stops.)
Which of your characters would you be friends with in real life?
Well, in real life I wouldn't want to be friends with anyone in the military. While the US military is a special interest of mine because of Stargate, I am very aware that these characters are not realistic when compared to their real life counterparts. Realism in this area is one reason my favourite of the series is Universe, but even then these men aren't... Well, let's just say that - just like in politics - you don't get far in the military if you're a good person.
Which characters would you dislike the most of you met them?
😬😬😬 I mean, the fact they're dislikeable is part of the draw, ya know? I think irl-Young would suck absolute balls. 😂
Tell me about the process of coming up with your characters?
Not super applicable as I'm a solely fandom writer, but the parts of the characters we're not given by the show come to me as I write, like puzzle pieces slotting into place. A good back-and-forth conversation is another excellent way to dig deep into them.
Do you notice any reoccurring themes/traits in your characters?
QUEER! But being serious, I've given both Everett Young (SGU) and John Sheppard (SGA) intrusive thoughts...
My writing
What’s your reason for writing?
Escapism. Creativity. The characters are in my head screaming at me.
Is there any specific comment or type of comment from readers that you find particularly motivating?
Ooh, the long back-and-forth conversations! I'm here to talk endlessly about these little fucking blorbos and I will ramble about them to anyone!
How do you want to be thought about by your readers?
Taking this very seriously: a man. I know that fandom is typically a woman-dominated area and I've met quite a few other trans people through Stargate, but yeah. I know there are cultural differences with what are generally considered gender neutral terms around the world, but I do not want to ever be referred to as a girl or with woman-coded terms. I've had to fight hard to be able to be myself: man, dude, bro, there are a lot of choices.
What do you feel is your greatest strength as a writer?
Hmm... consistency? I set the New Year's resolution to write something every day in 2022. That year I missed 2 and half weeks because I had top surgery and while beforehand I thought 'awesome, I'll have plenty of time to write!' it turned out that recent wounds almost in my armpits makes it quite painful to move my arms... 🤔 In 2023 I wrote every day and so far I've kept that up in 2024. It's not always a lot of words, but it's always something.
What have you been told is your greatest strength as a writer is by others?
Characterisation. I've been told I've got my SGU boys (Telford, Young, and Rush) down to a tee.
How do you feel about your own writing?
There's a cycle where I look back at stuff I've written and compare it to what I'm currently writing and think 'this new stuff isn't as good', but in 3 months the stuff I'm currently writing will be what I think is good so... There are pieces I'm especially proud of, of course. If you'd allow me to plug for a moment, I think a memory, a distant echo is one of the best things I've ever written. Mind the tags though.
If you were the last person on earth, would you still write?
Yeah sure. I write primarily for myself so I don't see any reason why I'd stop. I wouldn't live long though lmao
When you write, are you influenced by what others might enjoy reading, do you write purely for yourself, or is it a mix of both?
First point of contact has to be with me, always. If something doesn't resonate with me, I can't write it. Forcing things is going to make writing unenjoyable and for me it's one of the most joyous things I do and I want to keep it that way. That said, if there's specific interest in a certain idea I have, that of course does motivate me. Feedback is the nectar of writers!

Obvious Medical Advice from Docs I actually really like
I go to a lot of doctors appointments and I have some ✨wonderful providers✨ and some mid providers.
Tumblr media
Made these, which are like, technically useful (if plainly obvious) pieces of advice from docs I actually really like!
so I’m just poking fun 😘 Love you, mean it, unnamed psych & derm!
Tumblr media
When dermatologist said that, I was like “See? that’s why they pay you the big bucks.”
What are your “wow I paid $400 for this appointment” moments? Here’s a template for you:

The CDC’s Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee (HICPAC) will meet virtually August 22, and infection control guidelines for healthcare settings will be reviewed. Our community and advocacy groups have pressured HICPAC to strengthen infection control recommendations and include broader expertise on the committee. As a direct result of this advocacy, CDC sent HICPAC’s proposed infection control guidelines back for more review and expanded representation on the committee, including a member of National Nurses United on the Isolation Workgroup. We must keep pressure up to ensure infection control for aerosol-transmitted infectious diseases is strengthened, not weakened.
Despite a legal obligation to request public comments on the draft and despite ongoing calls for more transparency, HICPAC has not opened a public comment period in the Federal Register. HICPAC has limited oral comments from the public to 45 minutes, so many registrants will be excluded.
Since many politicians are campaigning for our votes this year, it’s prime time to write to your elected officials to insist HICPAC be made accountable to the public. You can use our Action Network campaign to simultaneously 1) write a public comment to CDC/HICPAC and 2) alert your elected officials that healthcare needs much stronger isolation and infection control precautions, including universal masking.
Amid this summer’s nationwide COVID surge, the CDC has acknowledged that COVID spreads year round, including in summer, and that emergence of new variants leads to unpredictable patterns of spread. However, the draft infection control guidance continues to threaten rollbacks in the use of N95 respirators for aerosol-transmitted pathogens and further weaken isolation protocols and related guidance. Despite the demonstrated benefits of universal masking in healthcare settings in the ongoing COVID pandemic, HICPAC’s draft guidance fails to integrate this lesson to prevent avoidable healthcare-acquired infections.
Use our Action Network campaign below by clicking on the blue button to write to your elected officials and CDC’s HICPAC asking them to make HICPAC accountable to the public and share your concerns about the need for universal masking and clear isolation protocols by August 22, 2024.
Send Letter to Govt Officials/HICPAC
How to use the universal masking infection control letter template
Click through to Action Network and edit the letter as you wish (or write your own using the letter for inspiration or talking points). Note: The White House and many elected officials set a 2000 character limit.
Personalize your comment with a brief statement on how the lack of universal masking in healthcare has impacted your life or your community. For example:
Delayed or missed medical appointments
Unsafe experiences, such as with workers or other patients who showed symptoms of COVID or other aerosol-transmitted infectious diseases
Infections or potential exposures that occurred in healthcare settings
Challenges faced in asking healthcare workers to mask
Disproportionate impacts of the lack of masking in healthcare on high-risk patients and marginalized communities
Letter template:
Dear Elected Official and Members of HICPAC:
CDC’s Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee (HICPAC) is meeting August 22 about major revisions to infection control guidance. Though legally obliged to accept public comment, it has not made draft guidelines public or posted them to the Federal Register. I urge you to act to require HICPAC to open public comment for its August meeting and going forward.
Most importantly, HICPAC’s most recent draft guidelines would seriously weaken infection control, and prioritize healthcare profits over patient and healthcare worker health. Healthcare should not make us sick.
I urge you to press HICPAC to strengthen CDC infection control guidance in line with scientific data. HICPAC must establish universal masking in healthcare as a new standard of infection control across all settings for the following reasons:
Many healthcare exposures to aerosol-transmitted infectious diseases (including COVID, measles, influenza and TB) are preventable through multiple mitigation measures including isolation procedures, universal masking, ventilation, and air purification.
Many aerosol-transmitted pathogens are transmissible without symptoms and without predictable seasonality. Diagnosis and isolation may be delayed, leading to exposures that could have been prevented by universal masking.
Well-fitting N95 respirators or better masks provide both protection for the wearer and source control. One-way masking has limited protection; masks should ideally be worn by all to reduce transmission. Hospitals should distribute N95 grade masks to visitors and staff.
Universal masking protects patients when they cannot mask (such as infants, people with specific medical conditions and procedures involving the nose or mouth).
When masking is only on request, people are unprotected in many shared spaces such as lobbies and waiting rooms.
In addition to universal masking, HICPAC must recommend layered mitigations in all types of healthcare facilities: higher HVAC standards, clear robust isolation protocols to separate infectious people from others – including by routinely testing staff and patients for COVID and other infectious diseases, isolating and cohorting infectious patients, and keeping staff with an active infection away from healthcare facilities and in-person patient contact.
Thank you for your time and attention to this important matter.

About Lighthouse
Lighthouse (named after my system) is an app designed to help those who have alters. Alters have their own separate, private journals to write down whatever thoughts they may have. The entire system has a Communal Journal to write together about whatever is needed. If you are a trauma-based system, your system can also utilise a handful of interactive worksheets for grounding and processing memories.
Please send us an ask for support with the site, or if you've found a bug.
www.writelighthouse.com
The System
"The Lighthouse System" is a name that's used for collaboration projects between parts. He/Him is a universally used pronoun, it seems. Here's a link that shows the roster!
We are not a medical professional. Please do not ask us to diagnose or treat you. We cannot answer asks about sensitive topics that should be only shared with a professional. Remember: We are also chronically traumatised with our own triggers.
Journal Template below if you'd like to make one. Skins on the site may not reflect the interests, opinions or beliefs of the Lighthouse System.
Tumblr media
FAQ below the cut:
What’s Lighthouse’s backstory?
Our system was struggling to keep things organised in our giant binder, so our host (Dee) started to build a private “portal”. This portal had private accounts for each alter to journal and one communal journal for all of us to use. There was also DMing, chatting and appointment reminders. The only problem? It wasn’t able to be accessed outside of our singular computer, which posed an issue if something happened while away or if we were travelling. So we’ve been translating that old private portal into an online version that other people can use too. Development for the private portal started back as early as 2018, and the online version began a couple years later. The site itself wasn’t officially announced to the public until 2023. Not everything has been translated over yet, but hopefully it will be soon. This project is very much us taking what we learn in therapy and books and applying it directly to a website in hopes of helping others who might not have as easy access to trauma therapy as us.
Will Lighthouse ever have a social feature where I can share an alters page with friends? Why or why not?
First, we want to say it's awesome you feel comfortable enough to share your system. Unfortunately, the manpower needed to properly moderate, develop, and maintain a social media website/app is just not feasible for us (The Lighthouse System). If we absolutely had to do that, we would want a paid team as well as a lawyer, should the worst happen.
Who can use Lighthouse?
Anyone who thinks this kind of journalling can help them is welcome to use Lighthouse. We, The Lighthouse System, are a trauma-based system, aka a DID system. The app was originally designed just for us, so a lot of the app functions for DID. Having said that, we don't want to gatekeep who can and cannot find a use in this app. That entire topic is highly controversial, and we don't have the medical credentials to say who can and can't benefit from a resource.
Can people see what I write on Lighthouse?
Nope! What you write is encrypted and decrypted on the front end. Basically, any middleman or attacker would get a jumbled mess of gibberish instead of what you wrote, without the key to decrypt whatever the gibberish says. Not even we can read it.
Thoughts on Simply Plural, Pluralkit, Tupperbot, etc?
We encourage users to use whatever apps that they find useful to them. Lighthouse's aim is not to replace these apps, but to supplement them.

Adult children of neglect- when was the last time someone checked up on you?
Continuing my adult children of neglect series, I wanted to do a semi lighthearted post.
I believe when children are neglected, they grow into adults who never learn certain life skills properly. One of those skills is checking up on your own well being, because some kids have no one who does that for them. And so they never learn how to do so themselves.
So I wanted to make a template for checking up on yourself. Think about this like catching up with a friend, but it’s you and yourself.
As always, this series’s main focus is not emotional self care as I believe there are way better options out there than I am able to produce as an emotionally constipated icon. So this is more of a practical list.
This is a general small things that matter checklist. I know not every single prompt is relevant to everyone, and I hope you can still find something that sticks with you.
[legal statement because yeah; this list is not meant to serve as professional advice or replace professional advice. Do these things with professional help if needed because I am just a person online and I can’t hold responsibility for any damages caused by this post]
So without any further ado, here’s the list:
Medical
Are there any medications you need to refill? Find a time to go and buy them. Remember to take your medicine.
Are there any other tests/errands you need to complete in regards to your health? Routine ones, such as blood tests, dentist appointments, gp appointments for prescription medication…. Schedule them.
Have you been exercising? Even small things like taking a walk or following along a YouTube video can help you feel more energized and do wonders for your body.
Environmental
How clean is your space? Do you want to set some time aside to clean your workspace?
How clean is your bed? When was the last time you changed the sheets?
Do you have any laundry on the floor? Pick it up!
Are there any work tasks you need to get out of the way?
Are there any tasks related to rent, paying bills, going to the bank etc that you’ve neglected? Ask for help from a friend, look up tutorials online.
Is your closet messy? Try organizing your clothes, it helps to declutter your mind.
Do you need to throw out the trash? Put a new replacement bag right away when you throw the old trash out.
Personal hygiene
Have you brushed your teeth today?
Do you have good personal hygiene supplies? Do you need to buy some? Make sure you’re clean and fresh.
Have you washed your face today? Just wash it gently with water and soap. It is a nice act of self care.
Misc
When was the last time you did something fun for yourself?
Have you been drinking enough water today?
How are you feeling?
Are you in contact with your friends?
Is there anything you should be doing and you feel like it’s too much to tackle on your own? Get some help from a friend, coworker…. There are always people who want to help.
Do you need to send out any emails? Do so right away! It feels better instead of procrastinating it.
Do you have time to relax?
That’s what I came up with. Feel free to add your own prompts and good luck in recovery to everyone!!

Do y'all have a medical history template that you like? I have an appointment with a new specialist in just over a week and I want a succinct way to present my medical history. As a disabled person, my medical history is long and somewhat complicated, as I'm sure you can relate. Do you have any good tips for relaying your history to a new doctor?

Hiya :) I’m from Wales and I want to ask my GP to write a doctors note to change my gender on my passport etc. Do you perhaps know the process for this? Like do I just ring the GP, ask for a doctors appointment and then request the note?
Hi, Anon,
If you see a private GP, you can probably email their contact email directly and ask for it to be done, where the receptionist will forward the email to your GP on staff, the GP will phone you to ask confirm (or not, depending on how efficient they are), and then they'll just fill it out.
This is a template for a Doctor's Letter from Gendered Intelligence.
Unfortunately, as far as I know with NHS surgeries they often make sure they're not contactable by the public, and NHS medical receptionists are generally as hostile to the idea of patient care as possible and take a PvP approach to the idea of patients making appointments and asking for resources. If your GP surgery DOES have a public email address, and especially if they mention that they do prescription requests over email, then they will likely do letters like this in response to emails as well.
I'd call up and if there's no public email address, ask if you can send an email or letter to request a letter from your GP regarding medical documentation, and say that you need a signed letter from your GP. The receptionist would hopefully be able to advise you with an email address, but again, most surgeries in the NHS try to keep their emails internal to healthcare professionals, so they might tell you that that's not possible and that you'd need to make an appointment.
It might be that they can write a request down and highlight it for the doctor rather than you having to get an appointment though!
If not and you do need an appointment, if your GP offers online or phone consultations those are probably better than going in-person. Just for speed purposes but also for avoiding contagion in the surgery waiting area, especially given that this is something you don't need to be examined for.
GP surgeries can be drastically different from practice to practice unfortunately, so these sort of things are never predictable, especially given that the NHS is under such considerable strain due not just to bad practice and unnecessary bureaucracy, but most of all to extreme understaffing and lack of pay and resources.
With that said, people require letters and pieces of documentation from their GPs for all sorts of things all the time, whether it's sicknotes, letters like this, documentation for private or specialist consultations, etc, so this is never an unreasonable thing to ask for and is a standard thing for a GP to give.

💞The two sides of our D/s
This week, I’ve found myself being used and handled around apparently more times than I was able to count! I feel more and more like their free-use bondage captive toy every day. And yes I’ll keep adding adjectives, adjectives are hot.
This week my Owner has…
…stuck their finger(s) in my mouth and either make me suck them or simply press down on my tongue and see how far down my throat they can reach, or both, at least 3 times.
…kissed me, thrown me at a wall, continue kissing me, pulled me away and then thrown me back at the wall; sometimes also turning me around the second time and pushing me from behind, pressing my face and body against it; at least twice. Once also grabbing my wrists and forcing them up in front of me and then down behind my head, pulling and making me effortlessly helpless and exposed to be used.
…made me kneel next to bed, blindfolded, legs bound, and with mittens on my hands, and pulled my head onto their crotch and fucked my face, at least twice.
…surprised me by tightening my nightly restraints to the point of no escape, leaving me completely helpless and waiting to whenever they wanted to release me, at least twice.
And this week, my Owner has also…
…accompanied me to the hospital to check on something that, wasn’t actually serious in the end, but had me worried.
…taken up some more work around the house since because of that annoying health thing I’ve been feeling very not great and doing things is harder.
…helped me on my job search, helping me make a flyer for publicizing my 3D Art lessons and helped me pick a CV template.
…given me treats when I feel bad, allowing for things that they wouldn’t usually in order to make things easier for me in this hard time. bonus: yesterday, giving me some extra food when I should’ve only gotten scraps, but before allowing me to eat, grasping my hair, pulling my head back, and sternly reminding me while looking at me from above: ‘Remember that this is a privilege, because you’re feeling bad, got it?’ and instantly making me fall into the warm and incredible embrace of feeling subby and like I’m just their extremely lucky captive toy.
This is it. This is what it’s like.
They use me, restrain me, hit my butt with a hard shiny wooden paddle with increasing strength, stick their hand in my mouth, stick my face in their crotch, hit me, chain me up, lock me up. They forbid me from using furniture, using my hands when eating, using hot water when showering, walking freely when outdoors, moving freely when indoors, wearing clothes when indoors, choosing my clothes when outdoors. They control my food, my starvation, my pleasure, my suffering, my temperature.
And they also give me tasty treats, chocolates, fruit, cookies, ice cream. They help me do things that are hard for me, they go accompany me to doctors appointments, they make sure I take my medication, that I’m well hydrated, that I’m doing the things I want to do with my life. They help me with my art and with my work. They support me, they watch movies and shows with me and stay up late talking about them with me.
They worry about harming me, about what they say, about being good enough. And so do I worry about being good enough every day, and about asking too much of them, while they also worry about asking too much of me.
Our dynamic makes it all work. Makes us live the lifes we want, both in a kinky sense and in a not kinky sense. It helps us focus on being ok. It makes us happy, it certainly makes me very happy.
