Never forgiving the Duffer brothers (puke in my mouth) for erasing bigger people off their show.
Killed Benny, Killed Barb, Killed Bob, Made Hopper Skinny While He Was in the Gulag (Which I Understand, But Come On), Wrote Off Argyle. I'm sure the list goes on.
Like the rep. we do have is so minimal. It's embarrassing.
I could survive in Stranger Things; I'm sure of it. Give me a gun, a Molotov cocktail, and the word—I'll fucking run Vecna into the ground and then mush him into little pieces. I could do it.
There's muscle under my fat. And it's not like it just *poof* appeared one day.

thinkin abt getting a cassette player to start a new lil hobby but they’re lowkey so expensive for a decent one…I can’t complain bc I’ve gotten into vinyl and that’s an expensive hobby but I also look at my little cd collection where a large majority of it is thrifted. I got my cd player from my dad. I thrifted 90% of my actual cds. I’m wondering if I shouldn’t just wait it out and see if I can’t thrift a cassette player

NO SERIOUSLY. I MISS THESE. WHAT THE FUCK. WHERE IS MY SECOND DISK OF SPECIAL FEATURES. MY DIRECTORS COMMENTARY. MY THEATRICAL TRAILERS?
if it weren't for special features on DVDs i *genuinely* would not be on the path I am now. Some Studio Ghibli disks have a special feature called "storyboard mode" where the original animatic of the animation is played instead of the finished movie. That's what inspired me to want to be an animator! That's what lit that fire! Kids today are LOSING that! Give us the DVDs back! Give us back Xtra-Vision and Blockbuster and video rental stores!
And you can't even rely on a streaming service for movies because they can be removed at any time. I have my own collection of DVDs because of this fact. I have films you can't get on streaming over here because of whatever the fuck reasons. I have six disks of tobey's spider-man films; 3 film features, 3 special features. I have A Silent Voice. School of Rock. I have Into The Spider-Verse with a director's commentary. I have the Care Bears movie from 1985! KEEP YOUR MEDIA PHYSICAL. That way it can't be taken away for bullshit reasons.
the death of dvds is so fucked. what about bonus features
#i know dvds are still being made and all but its mostly blu-rays and i dont have a blu-ray player#Look. DVDs are being erased. TVs dont have a disc slot. They have fewer hdmi and av points#My new laptop for school doesn't have a disc slot!#If you want to watch a dvd now there are extra steps this is what im saying#you need to buy a cable and buy a dvd player and THEN watch it#before you could stick a disc in damn near anything#and dvds are so much less...personable#they used to be bonus features- games#trailers and blooper reels and interviews and shorts and everything#directors commentaries and deleted scenes too#it used to have its own seperate disc! because it was so much it wouldnt fit alongside the movie on the disc!#now were lucky to get what#maybe the theatrical trailer#or an interview with some actors#the directors commentary is a lot harder to find than it was#and deleted scenes? forget it#i dont think ill ever see a disc with a storyboard feature again either. this is what we mean#theyre still being made sure. but not as mainstream#which makes it less convenient for a lot of people. plus the PRICES. my god#a dvd new is like MINIMUM £10. places like CEX keep a lot of discs behind counter#so you cant check for damage like scratches before buying it#and the rental placed are gone.#we used to bring dvds into school and vote on what one to watch. i dont think that happens anymore#the rise of streaming services has mostly erased the need for physical media#even thiugh the streaming services have far less content than video rentals stores did#and the content gets switched between serviceds regularly#and you need good wifi for it even.#there's no streaming service I can use to watch the step up movies#or to watch like... danny phantom#so dvds and ...*alternative*. streaming sites are where it is for me

Living Up to the "Leftist" Part of My Blog Title, or: Late Stage Capitalism Steals Utility from Us
TLDR: Marx was right. Capitalism's focus on profit maximizing has infiltrated everything, makes products worse, and makes us unhappy and more mistrustful of each other.
I hate how late stage capitalism incentivizes everyone to monetize everything.
I was trying to listen to an album I bought on my computer and Windows' modern Media Player doesn't let you skip tracks or play whole albums. Like, WTF? I have to go back to the legacy player to play music albums. Who would want to lose that feature? What does the new player even do that makes it worth using?
I know the legacy player is there and it's still free, but I wonder, then, what's the point of the shitty modern player? It seems like it would only drive you to either a better open-source or a better paid alternative.
So going back to the legacy player in all of its Windows 7-era glory reminded me of how we used to get extras like minesweeper or solitaire or that awesome pinball game in XP as part of our purchase. Now, the pinball game is gone, and you have to watch ads to play solitaire or pay a monthly subscription to avoid the ads they force on you, no way to just pay a finite amount for stuff.
Tumblr media
I miss Web 2.0 when there were like a million different websites and you could find so many different communities, when Google search worked and wasn't just a vector for search-engine-optimized ads.
I remember going to one of a million different Flash game websites and playing games that people just made for others to have fun. I miss going to websites that would do cool services for you, like letting you turn your handwriting into a computer font for free.
Now, I'm not saying there's any problem with wanting to make (or actually making) money from your work, of course not, but I think there is a problem with every interaction with another person or their work needing to be some kind of monetary exchange. I think Marx has a specific term for this, but it's been a minute since I've reviewed him.
Anyway, part of the reason that all changed was because of capitalism's drive for endless profit leading to corporations nickel-and-diming everything they can, like Adobe not letting you just buy and own Photoshop for one purchase anymore, or AAA game companies not allowing you to own everything in a video game after paying your $60 or $70 or whatever the sticker price is.
Along with that nickel-and-diming came squeezing more and more profit by paying workers less and less, making our jobs more precarious so we have to have a side hustle, we have to scrimp and save and we have to use social media to gather fans whose attention we can monetize through ad revenue and selling merchandise.
Tumblr media
Because our sense of security is so unstable, because so much has been robbed from us, because we have decaying--and in the U.S. basically nonexistent--social safety nets, we are constantly having to look out for scams, to ask each other for mutual aid, and being forced apart. Like Marx argued, capitalism is alienating: It alienates us from each other, it alienates us from ourselves, and it alienates us from the joy of creative labor. (I might be forgetting a fourth kind of alienation. Again, it's been a minute since I taught theory.)
In the past, like my childhood on the internet mentioned above, people did things--and they still do things--for free because we like making stuff, thinking up ideas, and showing off our stuff and sharing our ideas with each other. That's why social media is popular: we're a social species! Marx argued our species-being, our human nature, is to work: is to create, to labor more than what is necessary for the propagation of ourselves and our species. That is, we do more than just eat, sleep, and fuck. We draw, sing, write, dance, play, talk, make longwinded blog posts at 12:35 in the morning instead of sleeping, etc.
Tumblr media
People did this "free labor" more often in the past because people had a greater sense of security. They had this greater sense of security because their basic needs were being met. In Marxian terms, they were earning enough to meet their means of subsistence.
And with that greater sense of security, borne from having their base needs met, came more trust in broader society. It's less risky to trust people if your needs are secured. It's also easier to trust people won't scam you because there's less incentive to scam if they are secure.
But now that we see our institutions failing, crumbling around us while the state bends to the will of capital and ignores the will of the majority of the population (weed legalization? minimum wage increase?) people come to feel they can't trust those that are different from them. Social order and social bonds become weaker and, again as Marx predicted, capitalism is sowing the seeds of its own destruction.
I started writing this to complain about how Media Player sucks, and of course it's because of capitalism. I hope I did a good enough job of linking the two. It's not just an aphorism to say "capitalism caused it". I could go more into how capitalism uses the state to prop itself up and this merging of the state and business exacerbates fascism, but I'll save that for another post.

Car dealership douchecanoe treated me like some unreasonable crazy person for inquiring about "why the fuck is there foam in the CD player. It is unusable. Inspect it and remove it." But I said it more professionally!
He was stuck on the mindset of "why do you care? No one cares about that stuff. CDs are not important. No one uses them. I'm middle-aged and I don't own any."
He'll take an actual look at it if I come back with a CD. Because using something with the same thickness just to show "yeah there is maybe a fraction of a mm of space in there." He is only doing this because I name dropped my dad (-_-;)・・・

With how low level the Bell's Hells are and how easily all the higher level help were cast aside and incapacitated, I don't think they were meant to completely stop Predathos' and Ludinus' plans.
I think this was all about seeing how bad the next "calamity" event turned out to be. Like how the Ring of Brass were never gonna stop the first Calamity, but they did do just enough to give the world a fighting chance against the apocalyptic event the remaining life on Exandria would have to fight and rebuild from. History loves to repeat itself. It's a constant cycle of f**kery with little pockets of peace and happiness.
This sets up nicely for a good end goal for the rest of the campaign, with them having to go on a journey to power up enough before having the real final showdown to stop whatever level of bad was just released on the world. Maybe even take out key players one by one on that journey.
And yes, I do think everything they were successful with, like: blowing up the key in the Fey Wild, the Shadow Realm one at least being damaged, and forcing Ludinus to weaken himself in order to speed things up because of what they were doing on site of the Apogee Solstice will all be factored into what just happened.
anyway it's too early to call but I fully believe that what the Hells did back there mattered. Matt made a point to emphasize the ways in which Ludinus' plan was being thrown off. he had to fuck his hand up and give a portion of his lifeforce to accelerate time to the Solstice itself. the machine didn't have nearly as much power as it was supposed to. Ludinus is the kind of cackling villain who likes to claim All According To Plan, but it was obviously... not quite all according to plan
I could be giving Matt too much credit here but I don't think he's the kind of DM to just wave his hand and say "nothing you did mattered lol". I think the party came shy of checking all the boxes needed to avert this (like, say, fully convincing Liliana or finding a way to free Beau and Caleb) but we will see some kind of concession, some sign that Ludinus' plan did not achieve 100% of its goal
