Say what you want about Steven Universe but regardless I think seeing an objectively plural character say that they're made of love and saying that sure they could be apart but they don't want to and that being plural is an inherently valuable experience for some people is always going to stick with me.
There's a reason that before mentioning it became synonymous with syscourse (ugh) that so many systems were using it to explain plurality to people and that it was a source of comfort for a lot of us that part of it is always going to be special to me

[ID an image of Utena Tenjou, a pink-haired teenager from the anime Revolutionary Girl Utena. She is trying to pry a stone door open with her fingertips, leaning against it for support as she's close to fainting. There's tears in her eyes and she's grimacing. The image has been edited to have a speech bubble that leads to the original post. End ID]

Was there ever a news event in our lifetimes that the media fumbled more aggressively than Columbine. They genuinely got every single detail wrong
From reporting that they killed someone for saying she believed in God (a different girl who said she did survived) to not reporting that they sought out students of color while yelling racial slurs - on Hitler's birthday & a day after the anniversary of OKC and Waco - while promoting the idea that you have to watch out for loner bullied nerds. Even though later research shows that the shooters were, in fact, bullies themselves, who had a wide social circle, and they were, you know, Nazis motivated by racism and not the video game Doom (1993).
It's a generational fuck-up, the GOAT of bad reporting bc it's still with us. The narrative of persecution after "she said yes" is a huge reason the evangelical right is like how it is today (they made a biopic that uncritically repeated it just a couple years ago!) & they still push the idea that it's primarily victims who do that sort of thing and not aggressors & people still shared that stupid video of Marilyn Manson saying he'd "listen" until a couple years ago (though the shooters being abusive Nazi creeps would uh, not diminish Marilyn Manson's desire to befriend them, I feel)

i finally have a spare evening and strength enough to finish a sketch that has been poking at my mind for weeks...
oh and while i'm at it - i have recently been asked if i could make any less safe for work stuff; tbh it feels like there's already enough skilled, amazing artists who do exactly that; imma stick to the barely decent tenderness, and i hope you can feel it 💜🩶🤍

Alright I told myself I wouldn't interact with fandom when s2 came out, and I haven't and don't plan to except to say this about people deciding Caitlyn is the Worst or that the writing is OOC.
As someone who has had a family member violently killed, I cannot stress how much it shakes up everything you thought you were and stood for. My beliefs in proportionate compassionate justice and the rights of all human beings are some of the strongest I have (stronger now because of the way that experience affected me personally), but they were pushed to the absolute limit when it came to an individual who had killed my loved one, showed no remorse, and laughed in our faces outside court, among other things.
People generally like to believe it wouldn't be them or their peace-loving family members being talked down from seriously considering violent revenge, consequences be damned. People like to believe they wouldn't lash out at people closest to them under that pressure, that they wouldn't build walls around the kindest and most sensitive parts of themselves because those parts are the ones feeling pain you never thought possible, that they wouldn't stalk the killer, make notes on all their family and friends, and fuck up their hands punching walls in anger wishing so badly it was flesh and bone because they can't handle the fact that there's no way to turn back time to stop it all from happening. People like to think they're "better" than that. But the reality is messy and painful as hell.
With Caitlyn, she has the added guilt of having actually had the opportunity to stop Jinx before she fired the rocket, but she hesitated just long enough for it to result in the deaths of her mother and other councillors and in the cities being plunged into chaos. Not only that, but the person close to her she's lashing out at is the person who caused her to hesitate, and just so happens to be the sister of the killer.
Furthermore, her behaviour is entirely in character. We have seen her set up as someone who becomes obsessed with achieving a goal and will do pretty much anything she wants to get there. In S1, we agreed with her methods because her goal was exposing and taking down Silco, and because it led to Vi being released. In S2, she's doing a similar thing but it's fuelled by fear and a type of pain she doesn't know how to deal with, rather than being fuelled by a need to prove herself and solve a case, and it leads to her making morally questionable decisions and to hurting Vi. She admits herself, albeit privately to Vi, that she does not know what she's doing and doesn't know how to fill this hole in her chest (and the hole in the city leadership). She has been sheltered from the real world for almost all her life, and as a result she has no experience of functioning or making decisions under this kind of pressure. The real world blew up in her face in the worst way and she was given power and a loaded rifle, and then shoved into an even more elevated position by a very experienced warlord who is manipulating the shit out of the whole situation.
I'm not saying that you have free rein to hurt people when you're grieving and facing extreme stress. (If you think that's what I'm saying then idk I'm not sure there's much hope for you in terms of critical thinking skills). What I'm saying is that Caitlyn is exhibiting pretty normal human behaviour that most people would be susceptible to in those circumstances, not the behaviour of someone who is some kind of heartless abusive bastard.
TLDR: Caitlyn is being written in a way that completely makes sense and is also not OOC, and if someone told me there would be no chance of them reacting in similar ways I simply would not believe them.

[ID: This cartoon has four panels. Each panel shows a woman at her kitchen sink. Although each panel shows the same scene, each panel is shown from a slightly different angle.
The woman is fat, and is wearing blue jeans and a pink tee shirt that shows a planet sticking its tongue out on the back, and has the words “don’t panic” written in large friendly letters on the front. Her orange hair is in a messy bun. On the countertop next to her is an open laptop, and throughout the cartoon the voices we hear are coming from the laptop. The laptop is positioned with the screen facing away from the “camera,” so we can’t see what’s on the screen.
PANEL 1 The woman is washing a dish over the kitchen sink. Voices are coming from her laptop, but she doesn’t appear to be paying attention.
VOICE 1 – TV HOST: You’ve been on People’s “hottest celebs” list six times… but in your new movie, you wear a fat suit! It’s a ”huge” transformation!
VOICE 2 – CELEB: Ha ha! It was quite a learning experience.
PANEL 2 The woman continues to wash dishes, but glances at the laptop screen.
TV HOST: Interesting! Can you tell us some things you learned?
CELEB: First, it’s disturbing to play a part designed to let audiences enjoy being grossed out by “my” body.
PANEL 3 A close up of the laptop on the counter.
CELEB: Second, I learned it’s exploitative to wear a marginalized person’s body as a costume. And I learned there are plenty of fat actors who’d love this opportunity but weren’t given a shot.
PANEL 4 The woman has stopped washing dishes and is leaning against the counter and watching the laptop screen. She looks amused.
CELEB: Finally, I learned that no one should see this stupid movie. Excuse me, my manager appears to be having a coronary. END ID]

SEASON 1 FINALE, PART 2: Southern Comfort Food, Episode 13 - Apple Tartlets
<<PART ONE
(content warnings: hospitals)
ALL OF THAT DRAMA JUST TO REVEAL THIS ONE DETAIL!! I noticed the mistake around the Peach Cobbler episode, and then I had to work it into the story SOMEHOW.
This has been absolute wild ride! And there's still more to come! Season 2 is already in the works, along with a separate new comic series. And of course, fun doodles and stuff in between.

Eda Clawthorne really is the disabled icon ever though. What can't she do?
She's cursed but with her meds it's manageable. She pulls her hands off for funsies and all of her joints hurt forever. She's plural with the manifestation of her disability. She doesn't want a cure but she does want to be out of pain so nothing ever feels quite right. She was decapitated and just went "this is what happens when you get older"
Her disability alienated her from everyone in her life and she's still learning to accept help and compassion as a result. She rejects abled society and embraces everything they call a failure. She collects little freaks and teaches them to love themselves. She never finished school and is thriving. Her ex partner still desires her carnally. Etc.

Male and Female Sexualization are NOT Equally Bad
given the new popularity of games and other media such as Love and Deepspace and yaoi and stuff, i see many men going 'SEE! women are just as depraved as men are, now stop complaining about female sexualization in games!'
and oh my god you idiots. lets take some super typical examples from popular media. what differences can we see?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
note how much male 'sexualization' (more of a power fantasy on men's part) focuses on musculature, on explicit strength, power, vigor and toughness. they don't even need to be showing any skin. all these are considered sexually attractive by men and women, as a result of our lovely culture. now for female sexualization, its mostly about the showing the (unnatural) curves and arches of their body, being coy and inviting, passive and alluring. women are a spectacle to be acted upon and men are the actors.
look at the filmography, angles and posing for each image, look at how sexy men are shown as relaxed, yet towering and active, and how sexy women are dressed skimpily, are coy and posing unnaturally to invite attention. this is the standard across genres, aimed at both men and women.
imagine if you opened a survival game you were greeted with a man in booty shorts and a ragged crop top, with his back arched, looking longingly at the the player. is it the same as a shirtless man with defined abs and a smoldering look? exactly, it is fucking NOT the same. men would consider it extremely humiliating to be sexualized the way women are sexualized. if its humiliating for a man to do, its humiliating for a woman to do, you're just used to women being humiliated.
take a moment and imagine if sexy women were almost only shown as dominant, active and physically strong, and sexy men as only meek, coy and passive. now imagine if these unnaturally posed meek, coy and passive sexualized male characters were absolutely everywhere, in games, tv shows and movies where it made no sense for them to be there. imagine if they were the only male characters present and you couldn't change their looks. if this held true for at least half of all sexualized characters in media, i would cede my position and admit that male and female sexualization are just as bad as each other. until then, shut the fuck up 😘
