HI MECHS FANS! THIS IS A POST ABOUT TBI AND LOVECRAFTIAN MYTH AFTER A FANWIKI RABBIT HOLE!
i was always like, kinda baffled at the fact that the bifrost is associated with yog-sothoth, when the biggest lovecraft thing, color out of space, is its own entity entirely? WELL yog-sothoth IS canonically described as a "congeries [jumble] of iridescent spheres" so i guess! it makes sense!
you could also argue that the color out of space is ALSO associated with the bifrost, ie the eggs from the meteor being what hatched into the squamous things that swarm the train
BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE OUTER GODS YOU SHOULD INCLUDE IN TBI THINGS
Daoloth, the render of the veils, is an amorphous metal god that, among other things, can be invoked to see things as they really are (under the assumption that all humans view things through a veil to retain their sanity). Which sounds a LOT like Loki's "My eyes now clear" moment. Let Loki be Daoloth's pursedog.
Nyarlathotep!! As the most human of the outer gods, and as the one who enacts their will, he spends the most time around humans. He also prefers spreading madness over just straight up killing people, so you could tie him to the black box (spreading madness and leaving one survivor)! If you know that in the Norse myth Baldur's death was possibly planned by Odin, you could also say that Nyarlathotep influenced Baldur, thus setting up the eventual Bifrost Incident.
Tru'Nembra isn't very involved, but he is the unsentient flute that lulls Azathoth to sleep. Daemon flute that keeps it dreaming, etc.
AND! AND! The All-mother is not just a genderbend of Odin's All-Father status in myth. It's a title belonging to Shub-Niggurath, also known as "the black goat with a thousand young". She's described as "An enormous mass which extrudes black tentacles, slime-dripping mouths, and short, writhing goat legs." AND SHE IS YOG-SOTHOTH'S MATE! She also continuously spits forth these things called "dark young" which are tentacles and hoofs in the shape and size of a tree. Fucked up.
IN SHORT! USE MORE LOVECRAFT IN YOUR TBI WORKS!!!!!!!! DO IT!

God I wish conspiracy theorists were as much a problem in real life as on the internet. I wanna meet someone who doesn’t believe in the moon landing and tell them that no, actually, the moons not real it was blown up by a British guy named Tim.

random but I like to think Orpheus posted Trial by Song to his space Spotify or smth not long before he left for the vault job and just titled it something like 'song for the vault' or something similarly cryptic to anyone not familiar with the vault job because no way he just wrote the whole thing not to make money from it (bros gotta afford that lotus somehow)
And then he never posted anything again

ok my more in depth thoughts of the Sam=Firefly theory
So we know Sam is a mech suit from the planet Glamoth, with someone piloting it. Assumed to be a man based off the general build of the suit. Sam was built to fight against the Swarm to save his planet but ultimately the planet died to the swarm. We get all this info from Welt and the description of the Glamoth planar ornament set.
Firefly comes from a planet that was destroyed by either the swarm or antimatter legion from what she told us, she also stated shes on Penacony for the watchmakers legacy and cant tell us who she actually is. Another thing that interests me is she said in the real world shes stuck in what she calls a medical cabin and unable to move and experience things with her own body due to her terminal illness. It's said in a way that makes me think she can do all those things in a body that's not her own though. Sam is the 'medical cabin' shes stuck in, it would explain why the other Stellaron Hunters seemingly don't know who's actually piloting Sam, she can't live normally outside of it.
Sam only appears after her 'death' and Black Swan states the burnt enemies were very recent and they didn't exist in those places before we find Firefly, he wasn't there before she left. I think people are misinterpreting the memories of her we see as Sam being the one to lure her in and get her killed, but I think the line where she says 'Mecha, why?' is supposed to be something along the lines of 'Why do you know about that' not about why hes betraying her and the person she was with was someone unknown right now.
Theres just so many little things like their whole colour schemes matching, the firefly shaped wings in the 2.0 music video the same green colour as her, both of them very specifically mentioning the phrase 'scorched earth'. I do wholly think the theory has a good chance of being true.

Maiden Raven and Hound Summer will take the Monsterfucker genre to a whole new level
Oh we can only hope XD
Though I will admit that I do think it's rather presumptive to assume that Grimm Summer will be just another 'Hound'. Rather, I imagine (hope) that Salem's Grimm Hybrids will each have their own unique forms. With Summer herself essentially being the mythical 'Humanoid Grimm' that the fandom has been theorizing about for years now.
That being said, if Summer is in fact our equivalent to the Witch King, I could also imagine her also having a monstrous, winged form as a reference to WK's Fel Beast (or maybe she just rides an unfrozen Kevin into battle).
So we could see Summer using her giant monster form to battle Raven, and when Raven is defeated, Ruby destroys Summer's monster form with a Silver Eye blast much like how Eowyn kills the Witch King's Fel Beast. Which likewise leads to Ruby (and Yang) fighting Grimm Summer, now fully unmasked and in human form, on foot.
Meaning we can still totally ship Maiden Raven with Grimm Summer in her monster form XD

it's way too late and i'm going insane thinking about the mechs again but what if the reason Fort Galfridian never had contact from the outside is because it was once a part of the Yggdrasil system, and once Yog'sothoth came, all hope of Galfridian being sent aid vanished??

the long-awaited yggdrasil theory post
disclaimer that this is of course ALL speculation. honestly i just wanted to have fun with my mythology special interest and half-dormant space hyperfixation.
tags: @ladydragonkiller @twasforresearch @miralines @mx-information @chicken-magnet @theironseaweed @maddiesfandommess
this is going to be a VERY LONG POST so everything’s going under the cut <3
for starters, let’s go over stuff that’s stated in canon or that we can infer. asgard is the tyrant/colonist planet of the system. i think we can assume the star is named yggdrasil, and that’s where the solar system got its name. hel is a prison colony. midgard was under asgard’s rule. there are bifrost stations on every planet, implying every planet is at least somewhat settled and/or has resources to warrant further settlement.
on this note, i’m also pointing at the phrase “that man-made rainbow wormhole”. the bifrost wasn’t always there! i think that it came into being shortly before odin came into power. why? iirc, in the mythos, odin and his less-relevant brothers killed ymir to make the bifrost and the nine worlds. i think it fits that ymir was odin’s father and predecessor. a little patricide never hurt anyone!
okay, now for the images again!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[image description: two images of mechanisms bonuses from the TBI album. image 1: stylized map of the yggdrasil system, unfolded from three panels like a brochure. the logo of the ratatosk express, a gold ring with a blue train, is in the center. a ticket to the ratatosk express is in the upper left corner. the words THE BIFROST are at the bottom. the bifrost is depicted as a road of light spiralling outwards to each planet. jotunheim is depicted as a very large, translucent purple circle. alfheim is depicted as blue with a red ring. asgard is depicted as a yellow circle. midgard is depicted as a brown circle. svartalfheim is depicted as a very small dark brown circle. hel is a small gray circle. vanaheim is a green circle. nifelheim is a blue circle. muspelheim is a large red circle with two black rings forming an X image 2: nine cards in three rows of three, one card for each planet in yggdrasil. nifelheim is a white planet with 12 white moons on a gray background. hel is a near-black planet with two gray moons on a black background. muspelheim is a red planet with 2 black rings, interlocking in an X-shape, on a black background. svartalfheim is a dark brown planet with one large brown moon on a tan background. midgard is a tan planet with two white moons on a black background. alfheim is a blue planet with pink rings and 5 pink planets on a black background. jotunheim is a near-black planet that takes up almost the entire card, only the corners showing the white background. asgard is a white planet, stylized with three upwards rays. vanaheim is a green planet with four white moons and two orange rings. end ID.]
for ease of reference, planets will be listed in the same order as the cards image.
now for some notes on the myth!
Nifelheim - overlaps with the idea of hel as an afterlife Hel - realm of the dead Muspelheim - realm of fire Svartalfheim - realm of the dark elves Midgard - considered in the middle. realm of the humans/mortals Alfheim - realm of the light elves Jotunheim - realm of the giants Asgard - realm of the aesir (think thor, odin, tyr) Vanaheim - realm of the vanir (gods of fertility, light, prophecy. freya and frey especially)
we’re missing nidavellir, realm of the dwarves, though it may have been integrated into nifelheim. additionally, i’d like to mention the myth of the aesir/vanir war that ended in the vanir integrating into asgard. that’s a surprise tool that’ll help us later!
notes on moons and rings i did include these in the image ID, but it’s easier for me to process this in list format so here we go
Nifelheim - 12 moons Hel - 2 moons Muspelheim - 2 crossed rings Svartalfheim - 1 moon nearly the size of the planet. binary dwarf planets? Midgard - 2 moons Alfheim - 5 moons, ring system Jotunheim - none Asgard - none Vanaheim - 4 moons, ring system
now for planet-by-planet notes/speculation! a healthy mix of ideas about the planets’ make-up and culture!
Nifelheim - nifelheim is fun, because (according to my brief wikipedia search), nifelheim overlaps the idea of hel in the mythos- it's an afterlife. - due to this, i think it's a similar concept as the west banks of the nile being the land of the dead. very few people actually live on nifelheim. it's mostly a place to go to escape from the other planets, and you usually end up working the morgues there - speaking of the morgues! most of the moons are artificial. the planet has maybe three natural moons, with each additional being an artificial satellite - these are tombs. reserved for rulers and their loyal followers, they're semi-hollow spheres built in a manner to guide visitors along the "story" of the dead, the further in you go - not all of them were filled. odin's predecessor built extra, to have in advance for the following generations
Hel - we all know hel's a prison colony! id imagine its artificial life-supporting features are the least maintained of all of the planets because of this- it's maintained enough to indeed be livable, but not pleasant for anyone except those managing the prison - since in terminus we hear “this is hel”, i’d like to think hel refers both to the planet and whoever is currently in charge of the prison - due to the horrible conditions there, hel also quickly became a swear word
Muspelheim - muspelheim as the "realm of fire" is very likely an equivalent to venus. heavily volcanic surface with a super thick atmosphere. i'd even go as far to say that there's barely any solid ground, and it's all half-molten - those rings are in an X! that would not happen naturally, as rings and moons automatically fall into orbit around the thickest point of the planet (because theyre not perfect spheres), which is perpendicular to the axis of rotation. - so, i want to say that the two rings are man-made. it’s easy enough to put settlements in orbit when the planet itself isn’t suited for life - due to how hard itd be to travel along the rings, id imagine most of the cities are located at either of the X intersections, but there are a few towns and farmlands towards the middle of each "ring" - liz also posited the idea that the supervolcanoes on the planet push the rings around!
Svartalfheim - svartalfheim's moon seems to be almost the same size as it, leading me to believe that these two are actually a binary planet system. due to their near-equal size, they dance around each other in their orbit. they seem to be small enough that either/both of them count as a dwarf planet! - because of the way they orbit each other, massive swaths of each planet are in eclipse at any given point. - said eclipses also provide shielding from the star's radiation, which leads to a semi-nomadic system where those living on svartalfheim move to pre-existing buildings along the paths of the eclipses. i think they're slow-moving, much like earth's seasons
Midgard - midgard is closest to asgard (with vanaheim on the opposite side). i imagine it being quite similar to earth in climate and terrain - it was very self-sustaining until asgard came over to conquer it, replacing native wildlife, etc etc - they were the most opportunistic when the old order fell. they wasted little time in focusing on renewing native wildlife, reviving old culture, figuring out their government - oops my lyfrassir headcanons
Alfheim - im gonna guess that alfheim is an ice giant with a good amount of methane gas and ice, much like (coughs) uranus. - due to its temperature and atmosphere, either the settlements on alfheim are on the 4 major moons, OR on any solid, icy ground there might be, there's all-indoor settlements. think how you hear that you can travel in vegas without ever going outside. it's like that, mostly to keep everything livable. even the ratatosk station is inside!
Jotunheim - jotunheim seems to be the only gas giant - iodine gas is probably what makes it that deep purple/brown!! - since theres no solid land, there are artificial moons/satellites that act as research stations. think antarctica, where everyone wants a slice of the science
Asgard - asgard is the most technologically advanced of the planets, and as such was the one to go conquer the rest. - the soil is white, and there are no moons. there's enough freshwater to go around. - all the architecture is grand, lofty - wow can you tell i was getting burnt out at this point
Vanaheim - vanaheim, along with midgard and asgard, is one of the three planets in yggdrasil that already had sapient life - it's an incredibly lush planet, overgrown with greenery. it was the first to be colonized by asgard. the war was long, but eventually the vanir agreed to assimiliate into asgard's rule

where are the theories on it y‘all have? Because it seems too big of a set to just not appear at all, unlike for example the jay one from this year‘s first wave

why do you think Silas in TFP chose the alias “Silas”? obvs his real name is Leland Bishop, so he decided to get a new cool villain name.
why “Silas” tho?
I feel like often baddies choose their names based on something/someone else, often some sort of mythology. even Megatron chose his name because of cybertronian mythology. but that doesn’t seem to be the case for Mr. Leland here.
I know later he changes it to CYLAS because he’s a nerd idiot and wants to be creative and have a funky lil acronym but I just wonder what the inspiration was for the original iteration

Not sure if anyone already posted this but here you go
It’s kinda interesting how he says that it would be “ep 0?” - so like if Cole is there …then he would first return during the shorts. Meaning the shorts take place before the season..right? If that’s the case then we would get an explanation during the shorts but I’m not sure. But if they’re “episode 0” in a way - then it means it takes place before season 2.

Today I, an aromantic, was getting ready to attend a wedding… with Stranger on repeat.
#the mechanisms#stranger#ttbt2#i knew what i was doing when i put it on but also i am working on an addtion to my brian-jonny foils post so i was thinking about brian#its always sad brian hours#i cant really read that song separate from him anymore. honestly not sure i ever could but. its just so unconnected from anything else.-#actaea and lyssa is pretty disconnected. but its still almost certainly on the city. alice is pretty disconnected but its a result of-#king cole’s war. the most disconnected songs are redeath. the ignominious demise of dr pilchard. drop dead. hereward the wake. and stranger-#(and frankenstein but i consider that its own thing). and redeath and drop dead are my least favorite mechs songs.dr pilchard i didnt-#really care for for quite a while. stranger has so few words in it. it’s my favorite song. but the story is minimal fron the song (ie w/o-#knowing the crane wife story) so making a story around it sort of makes sense? im having a hard time with the words here. like we expect a-#story. cause that’s what the mechs do. and stranger has a story. it just doesnt have context and so creatong that context for ourselves is-#understandable. to be expected even. hope that makes sense#side note: i think it would make sense for hereward to have been from the same place (system I guess) as the people that made-#fort galfridian. i mean hereward was more of a real person than arthur (since there was no one person arthur was based on. like thats a-#whole thing) and hereward was anglo-dutch. so it makes sense hed be related to that story somehow#its just a theory. obviously. theres nothing in the songs connecting the too as far as im aware.#OH also achilles pointed out to me the anti-amatonormative/aromantic reading of stranger and i liked that a lot#hereward was anglo-danish. not anglo-dutch. sorry danish and dutch people
