Pizza Hut was one of the first to abandon the pull of large square footage, throwing millions of nostalgic red plastic cups into industrial grinders in a mad rush to stop bleeding so much goddamn money all the time. Today, those cups are worth $250 on eBay, so they look pretty stupid now, don't they?
The problem with all this is, in the time of our foreparents, it was real hard to fake the existence of a restaurant. If you went to a Pizza Hut, it was a real-ass physical building. It probably had not been copy-pasted together by a bunch of Taiwanese scam artists using Google Image Search fifteen seconds before you appeared. That was more of a Taco Bell thing. Nowadays, you can't be sure. Computers treat bullshit the same as any other kind of shit, so sometimes you'll be ordering from a completely imaginary restaurant. Feels weird, doesn't it?
As with many other cases in my adult life where I figured out everyone was just faking it, I decided to try and make some quick money. Papa needed a new engine, you see, and Slant Sixes don't exactly grow on trees anymore. With just a couple wonky Excel spreadsheets and a glob of code the size of Upper Tonawanda, I was in business with Switch's Fun-Time Pizza, an entirely non-fictitious restaurant whose address happened to be at the same place as a Pizza Hut.
Folks would pay me money, and then I'd quickly pay Pizza Hut to have a pizza ready by the time the delivery guy rolled up. Nobody seemed to care that the box said the wrong thing, and soon I was collecting fat stacks of money for doing nothing at all, just like the platforms themselves. This went on for a few weeks, fattening my bank account for slaughter. Until the first complaints came in, that is.
Yes, friends: it turned out that the local Pizza Hut had hired someone who wasn't very good at washing their hands. Soon, I was handing out big-time refunds on behalf of a massive international corporation, except I was doing so out of my own ill-gotten profits. My rickety, strung-together bullshit engine made entirely out of spreadsheets and chewing gum simply could not comprehend the idea of a refund, much less one for a weak human phenomenon such as food poisoning. Soon, all the money was gone.
Have I learned something from this whole experience? Yes. The most important thing in food service is to wash your hands thoroughly before (and after!) handling the customer's meat. The second most important thing is to charge at least a hundred percent premium over your supplier, to leave room for little hiccups such as this.
That's way easier to do if you position yourself as an upscale luxury restaurant, such as Lord Switchington of Canterbury's Refined Palate Pizza Parlour For Bourgeois Assholes Only, which will be launching this weekend in the very expensive neighbourhood next to mine. Hopefully their Pizza Hut is a little bit better at keeping the bathroom soap dispenser stocked.

Sam, how on earth did you get permabanned from tinder and okcupid? That seems like such a random thing!
I'm still not entirely sure; I have a theory, and Tinder gave me an indication, but by policy they don't tell people why they've been banned. Which I can understand, if someone reported you for bad behavior they don't want you to know or suspect who.
For me it was very weird. I'd had accounts with both before but had deleted them so I needed to reregister. When I registered for Tinder they kept making me verify I was real in different ways, like some weird escalating scale of identity. At last they had me take a real specific picture, and then I got an email saying I could not prove I was real to their satisfaction, and that I was permabanned. I never even interacted with anyone on the app.
But there are plenty of apps, so I went to okcupid a few days later and while they didn't SAY Tinder tattled to them, they immediately denied and permabanned me when I put in my phone number. I can only suppose they talked. They're both owned by the same company, so it tracks.
Most dating apps are owned by one or two companies, they're just formulated differently for different tastes/wants. What's funny is that I'm on at least one other app owned by Match Group and that one, Hinge, is totally fine with me. So idk.
The post office also didn't believe my address was real for the first few years I tried to register for their postal Letters to Santa giving program. I still can't get delivery meals that don't go badly awry. It's enough to give a guy a complex, but honestly I never felt good or comfortable on those two apps anyway so it might be for my own good. Having been on different ones now, I genuinely think OKCupid is one of the more toxic apps in this sphere, purely because it markets itself so specifically to people looking for authenticity but doesn't really foster it. A lot of other apps at least don't pretend they aren't meat markets.
I've had to approach dating apps in general as hostile places, simply because the level of harm they inflict for someone with RSD is so high. I don't blame the other users, but the apps themselves are structured so that you can, for example, see all the people who didn't think you were date material, but have to pay to see people who thought you were. Being radically honest about who I am and what I want has been helpful because I expect a much higher rejection rate from that, so I'm braced for it, but it's still not fun. On the other hand, this is the first try where I've made meaningful connections that have resulted in real dates. Breakfast Date, who I met on Hinge, has been really hot and fun, and Museum Date, who I met on eHarmony, is an ongoing exercise in hilarity (sexy hilarity) so for the first time it's worth it. And I don't think that would have been the case on OKCupid.

Noticed you were super lethargic, like more so than normal. When asking you about it, you just waved him off and said that it probably was your sugar
Obviously, he was as confused until you pulled up an app on your phone. A big 201 took up the top of the screen.
He took your phone - scrolling through the app - as you reached for your bag, pulling out a container of peanuts. He finally understood what was going on.
You explained to him that you get super tired when it gets low as well as high. Diabetes fatigue, you said. You two were about to head out, so you couldn't exactly take a nap.
He offered to cancel and reschedule, but you just said you were used to it. He didn't like that. So he drags you to the living room and sets you on the couch to snack and rest.
He makes you share the app to his phone so he can see when you drop or rise when absolutely necessary.

It all started because you didn't seem excited when he announced what he was making for dinner. You haven't really had beef ribs since your diagnosis.
He was ultimately confused before you explained that red meat has a possibility to shoot up your sugar and leave you feeling off. It's not that you can't have it, but it's been a while.
He can see that you feel guilty as you assure him to still make it since everything was out. An idea clicks in his head before ushering you into the living room and told to wait.
You don't really question him as he goes about working, not even when he answers a delivery at the door.
By the time he calls you in, the table is set with the ribs, sides, and a plate of chicken. Same seasonings and everything. He could see the guilt reappearing on your face, and would have none of that.
He sat you down, placed the chicken in front of you, and took his own seat. He said nothing until you started eating, humming in contempt when you dug in.
It felt nice that he didn't get mad or make you feel like the bad guy. He just accommodated you and still respected you. It was perfect.

The loud beeping of your phone caught his attention, making him laugh as you scrambled to turn it off.
You let out a groan and looked around for your bag, pulling out a small insulated bag, and excusing yourself to the restroom.
He said nothing, just a little confused. It was when you came back rubbing at your belly that he spoke up. You had to inject some insulin with all the snacks the two of you had today, nothing too special.
You could see the panic rise to his eyes before quickly assuring him that you were okay. You just didn't account for all your favorite goodies to be in his studio and you went at them like a man starved. You just had to be mindful for the rest of the day.
He immediately asked you if he had to get rid of the snacks and realized you'd rather put his head in a spike than lose access to your favorites...playfully.
A lot of personal stuff had been happening recently and you were the type to eat your feelings. He was too.
The best compromise you could come up with was finding similar snacks to fix the craving and keep you steady while keeping the bad ones under lock and key of which Changbin had.
Hyunjin
It was the clicking coming from the bathroom that caught his attention. He pushed open the cracked door to check on you, only to find you injecting insulin into your stomach.
He quickly backed up out of shock and re-shut the door. Waiting another second before knocking in the door, he slowly opened it. You were rubbing the spot with an amused look on your face.
The two of you were about to have dinner, and you had to prep yourself first. The injections were fairly new, so the two of you would have to get used to it.
He spends the whole meal talking and asking questions about your condition. You do your best to explain and it suffices.
It amazes him that you're able to be so functional after you talk about some of the side effects and handicaps.
In the following days, he does research about what snacks are safe for you and sticks them in the apartment. It throws him for a loop when he sees the bottles of medicine you leave with him as back up. Since when do they make pills that size?!

He runs into Hen and Howie, putting everything back together in ambulance bay at the hospital. While he would've been fine nodding and going back to getting some air while he waits for the okay to take off again, Howie calls him over. Tommy asks after their families and how they've all, in a general sense, been. It goes fine, just as it did before. They're good. They're perfectly civil. Just after they exchange goodbyes, Howie disappears into the ambulance and hands him a paper bag.
Tommy peers inside and sees a saran-wrapped package. "What, exactly, is this?"
""Orange and cranberry loaf," Howie says. "Happy Thanksgiving!"
"You just have these to give away." Tommy cocks his head. "Are you selling baked goods out of your RA unit? I won't narc on you. I'm just so curious. Do you not have enough to do?"
Hen throws up her hands and smiles. "Civilians, you know how they are during the holidays. We can hardly keep up with all the deliveries."
"Sure," Tommy says, feeling like one of his pant legs rode up. As he walks away, out of the corner of his eye he sees Hen elbow Howie in the ribs.
He can't bring it back to Harbor station. He can't keep accidentally finding consumables. Throwing it out would just be rude. After dinner that night, he eats a slice, warmed for a few minutes in the oven. Then he tries another, slathered with cream cheese to cut the tartness. The loaf is gone by Cyber Monday, with his unnvoiced thanks to Anonymous Civilian.
Because he can, because Hen reminded him that it will be just another grateful gesture in a tide of them, Tommy makes pizzas, roast vegetable with vodka sauce, cured meats with sliced fig, and has the same tasker send them over.
When he's done cleaning up the kitchen, he turns the music off, sits on his couch listening to nothing but his own breathing and the hum of the dishwasher, and he opens a dating app.
He closes it again within fifteen minutes, but it's a start. He tells himself he'll go back to it soon.

Tonight’s mission: Get Eijiro to come over.
However, he was busy studying tonight. So, you came up with a plan to lure him into your dorm room for a couple of hours, at least.
Step One: Mood Lighting and Aesthetics.
You hopped out of bed, pulling the covers tight and tidy, plumping up your pillows and various cushions. You repositioned your stuffed animals neatly, propping a Crimson Riot plush up at the very front as a proud display. Next up was your desk, you slid the scattered pencils together to place them back into your small pen holder in the corner of the desk, closing your textbooks and notebooks and pushing them back into their rightful spaces on your shelf. Finally, you collected the few clothes scattered across the floor and dropped them into your laundry basket before clicking your fairy lights onto a warm glow, shutting the curtains hanging over the large glass doors.
Step Two: Operation Snack Time.
Eijiro’s favourite type of food is meat- you had known that for a long time, so you made sure to stash some beef jerky in your snack drawer for him, alongside other drinks and snacks you both enjoyed. You also placed a swift order of yakitori to be delivered to the dorms, from a place that you and Eijiro frequently went to.
Step Three: Initiate Contact. You sat on the edge of your bed, opening you texts with Eijiro and typing swiftly.
“Come over?”
Since he was studying, you didn’t expect him to answer quickly, so you decided to turn on the TV and flick through some movie options for when he would inevitably turn up with his goofy, happy grin plastered on his face.
“I’m sorry pebble, I really gotta study this semester! I was totally lost in class today, but we can figure out a set date instead maybe?”
You glanced at the message on your lock screen, reading it nonchalantly before flicking over to the delivery app; your order was almost there! You made your way downstairs, swiftly opening the door for the driver and thanking him as you took the brown paper bag, the aroma soon flooding the common area, earning envious looks from Mina and Hagakure who pouted from the couch in the centre. You merely made an ‘L’ with your hand towards them, giggling slightly as you grabbed a plate and two glasses from the kitchen before scurrying back up to your room.
Step Four: Romantic Setup.
You placed the large plate off-centred on your wooden table, lighting a non-scented candle beside it that added to the mood lighting you had previously arranged. Pulling the warm Yakitori from the brown bag, you placed it neatly across the plate, smiling at your presentation skills before placing two glasses either side of the plate, accompanied by the canned drinks that you and Eijiro usually liked. As a finishing touch, you put out a couple of sweet treats (and beef jerky) on the other side of the table, arranged neatly.
Step Five: Initiate Contact (Continued):
You picked up your phone, snapping a photo of your date setup and sending it to Eijiro.

It didn’t take long for him to respond this time, typing out a message in record time.
“On my way sweetheart- see you soon!”
You knew your boyfriend well- he’d never turn down a good meal, especially when you’d gone through all this effort for him! It was about time for him to take a break from his work, he needed to have something to eat anyway, so why not with you?
Soon enough, you heard a knock at your door; you stood up from your bed, opening the door to your boyfriend’s goofy smile looking at you as his hand cupped your cheek gently, leaning in until your lips made gentle contact. A few seconds later he pulled back, looking around in awe as you stepped aside for him to admire your hard work.
“You did all this for me?” He asked, wrapping his arms around you and giving you a light squeeze while you nodded, “You’re amazing- thank you so much.”

Delightfully, victims don't have to be convinced to open a suspicious door, virtual tours are all the rage and people just can't stop clicking through houses, and the more mindbendingly awful the house the more views it gets, it's free fear
Peter doesn't bother with running his site but it's a chatbot dating app called LonelyEyes because he wasn't listening when Annabelle suggested the name
Mike Crew starts an online support group for people dealing with burns and scars. And if members sometimes post about run-ins with bullies, and if those bullies then have a tendency to accidentally fall off skyscrapers or disappear mysteriously while on holiday, that would sure be weird oh well shrug emoji (Mike runs his own site but Annabelle helps out with a little discreet web-sleuthing when needed)

This steakhouse chain has me drooling every time this advert comes up. For people that haven't seen it, it's about this couple who orders a bunch of BBQ grilled meat, and the man is being a complete jackass to his girlfriend by not letting her have the parts of the foot that she likes. Later that night, after heading to sleep, the man wakes up in a cage in a warehouse, where the steakhouse stuff carry him to the processing area. The advert ends with the girlfriend scrolling through the delivery app, finding her boyfriend's picture, and ordering both of his big feet and other parts of him. She can finally enjoy her delicious meal without anyone telling her what she can and can't eat. I fu**ing love this type of marketing.
