So you mentioned Nats inflation so I have a question: how much control over a country's Nationals does the ISU have? Cause I get the impression it's "none" but I also see people complain about the ISU even when it comes to Nats (but people can be... people)
I don't think the ISU has control over the scores at Nationals.
But there are some judges at Nationals who judge internationally too, so I think at least in this regard the ISU does have some influence. I don't think though that they could or would interfere with the scores given nationally as they don't count for highest scores and personal bests.
In the end the inflation is also ISU's fault bc of the unclear rules and room for interpretation. If rules would be clear, inflation would hardly be possible as much and scores in general would stand a comparison better.
Meagan Duhamel - former Pairs World Champion - just tweeted a few days ago how a clear guideline for errors could look like and how different judges apply the judging system. (source) (I also often question if judges even know which criteria to hit for each bullet bc sometimes it doesn't make any sense at all)

“It’s definitely a bit of a rollercoaster. It’s a tour definitely mixed with some reflection of previous tours and how I remember it,” the 33-year-old Chan says on a day off from Toronto, before the SOI cast headed off to Regina for a show on Thursday night. “I saw Scott (Moir) in London, he came to the show … just hugging him and talking with him, I got really emotional for some reason. It brought back a flood of memories of what it was like touring with Scott and what that meant to me. And the memories we made and the things I learned, the stupid things we did … just everything came rushing back. “We went through the juniors together and all the way to the top. I have moments like that where I just reflect and reminisce a lot on how things used to be. But at the same time, I miss my family, I miss my wife (former pairs skater Elizabeth Putnam), I miss (his son) Oliver a lot … I think I’m stepping away at the right time, considering where I am in my life and how hard being away from my son for four weeks has been already. I knew it was never going to be easy; these types of decisions are always tough.” [...] “You know, this cast has changed a lot. It’s been a changing of the guard. I’m the only one left from back when Scott and Tessa were doing tours, and Eric (Redford) and Meagan (Duhamel) … I’m really the only one left. I do feel that. It is a pretty stark reminder every show,” he said. “It’s not such the case now, because everyone is still competing and everyone is younger. I connect the best with Deanna (Stellato-Dudek, the ageless 40-year-old who just won a World pairs title with Maxime Deschamps), actually, because I can just relate to her — we’re in similar places in our lives, and share a similar perspective.” [...] “It taught me the hard work, the dedication, putting your mind to something and finishing it and all that. Most importantly, it taught me how to be a professional, how to carry myself and hold myself to a certain standard. Being around other champions from multiple generations —you’re talking Elvis (Stojko), Kurt, also Scott and Tessa —they were all such successful individuals, but also different,” he said. “But at the end of the day, when it comes to being professional and showing up and doing your job correctly, we held ourselves to that standard. And then being a good person. Knowing when to have fun, when to be serious. And also, how to get through the struggles, how to figure things out when things aren’t clicking at 100 per cent. [...] “I didn’t get to go to university, I didn’t have that key development time (in my life). Scott was my guy, and all these other cast members. Andrew Poje and Eric Radford … all these skaters were more than just my teammates, they were my life and my social circle. It does feel like it’s all coming to an end and it’s weird that Stars is kind of marking that last chapter.” [...] “For me, Halifax always stands out. I always have really fond memories of Halifax, because it would be the end of the season, the weather was changing, and I’d sit by the harbour in Halifax and reflect on the season. And then I’d get really excited about seeing my friends and developing a show together,” he said. “Spending hours together on the ice, but also goofing around and finding that good balance of work and fun. Halifax was just such a great city to start in. And there were the bus rides and traditions that I try to keep going and pass onto the next generation, but I’m finding it harder to (do that). I’m not Scott. I realized that pretty quick.”

meagan duhamel on tsl talking about how disorganized and ineffective skate canada is and mentioning tessa and scott in a couple contexts:
about how poorly attended Nationals was: why did they not go to local skating clubs and give them tickets to come watch Nationals? i know that didn’t happen [… ] my husband told me that he was talking to a couple of coaches from around the area. none of the local skating clubs had posters of Nationals at the rink […] the cold has nothing to do with this. the tickets weren’t bought- nobody had a ticket and chose not to go out
about how it's necessary to be bold and think outside the current box: it’s hard to be bold though - because like I’m one of the bold ones - and like Skate Canada hates me. they would never listen to my advice. when I retired I volunteered myself to be a team leader for junior grand prix, and they were like no thanks, we already have team leaders. if I think of myself as a junior skater, and a recently retired Olympic champion or world champion was going to team lead my junior grand prix that would have been life changing for me, but like no thanks we don’t need you
[...] we need to speak up if we want to create change- we need these voices we need people who are courageous enough to put themselves on the line. i would love to work within high performance, i would love it. high performance figure skating. Skate Canada would nev- they’re so scared of what i’m gonna say that they would never
about talking Patrick Chan into committing to the team event in PYC: Scott and Eric were the ones responsible (for that happening)
about taking packaging out of the picture: what would happen if the skaters all wore black leggings and a black tank top and no makeup and didn't have their hair done and skating was judged on the skate- the purity of the skating and the performance and not distracted by the costume? who would be the champions? who would be the champions right now if that was how we did things? and you know who put that seed in my head many years ago was Tessa Virtue - she was like why don't we all just wear black? and i think it was meant for the same reason as i'm thinking - where you're being judged on the purity of your figure skating - instead of on your costume, makeup, or your hair
#the tessa part is around 1:19:00:#mature vm could have won on pretty much any metric#with or without the packaging#she probably got tired sometimes#of being so much better#but having to do so much extra bc politics and other nonsense#meagan's not tactful or diplomatic#and from the way she steamrolls not a great listener#and refuses to be talked over#but she knows stuff and could help#but a convo style that would be accepted from a lot of men#is not from a woman

I’ve decided that the best person to run Skate Canada is Tessa Virtue. She has the athletic credibility, the business degree, the psych tie in, the contract negotiation/logistic side, the politicking (although perhaps not her favorite given athlete experience but I’m sure she’d crush it given her relationships), the artistry, she could be inspiring the next gen, helping women and girls in sport. All the things she has demonstrated interest in. I mean. Will it ever happen? No. But will I hold on to the dream? You bet. Would she get Team Canada that bronze medal….obviously.
Nah. She doesn't want anything to do with any of that. Who needs to be at the helm is Meagan Duhamel, she'd run that shit like a well oiled machine.
#konner talks skating#this is the last ask#some of these are months old#sorry y'all#off season brain is truly dead 98% of the time

Do you know vegan sports celebrities?
Everyone believes that you can be a top athlete only when you eat meat, dairy, etc. But this belief is wrong. Because when you choose a plant-based diet, you have the opportunity to use a lot of food like vegetables, seeds, etc. to strengthen your body.
I am Sara and in this article, I want to talk about vegan sports celebrities. This list helps you believe in your ability and do more exercise to arrive at your goals.
Are you ready to meet famous vegan sportsmen and women? First of all, play your favorite music and enjoy that, then follow me to review this list and find amazing new things about vegan popular people.
First-person on my vegan sports celebrities list is a famous heavyweight boxer. David Haye is a good boxer with a 102 kg weight. David tells us a vegan lifestyle makes her stronger and faster.
For that, David can be boxing better than before and I think this is a sign of a beginner’s vegan. Because a lot of new ones can’t start this lifestyle, because they think veganism weakens their body. David Haye is a Successful vegan athlete who proves to you this is not correct.
Before I knew Fabian Delph, I thought Soccer players needed special food to make their bodies stronger and this is not a Vegan athlete’s diet. But I know it’s not correct. Because there are lots of vegan sports celebrities around the world.
One of them is Fabian Delph Vegan soccer player. Delph played soccer on Thomas’s soccer teams, notably Manchester City in England. By accident, he had some injuries on his body. After that Fabian Delph started a vegan for improving his body. Also Fabian has regular tai chi for his mindfulness. These change Delph’s life and he is really happy more than after changing his daily lifestyle.
Do you love driving? What do you think about a great Formula 1 Racing Driver? If you ask me about that, I think this is scary but you can enjoy it.
When you can drive very fast and go ahead faster than another driver, your body’s adrenalin is at its highest at any other time of your life. On the other hand, when you are winning in this race, everyone believes that you are driving tactics and you are famous worldwide.
Lewis Hamilton is this person. He is the number one Formula 1 Racing Driver. Do you believe Lewis has been vegan since 2017?
He changed his lifestyle because of protected animal lives and our planet. Lewis won as a Formula 1 Racing Driver 5 times and one of them was after he started veganism.
Although you can be a winner on Formula 1 Racing Driver and vegan sports celebrities together if you start a healthy lifestyle.
On my list of vegan sports celebrities, you can see famous figure skaters’ names. She is Meagan Duhamel. Megan changes her lifestyle after she reads the “Skinny Bitch” Book.
When Megan talks about her new lifestyle, she says veganism increases her energy level and after that, she chooses this lifestyle, her skin is better than before she eats dairy and meat.
I think this is for vegetables, fruits, seeds vitamins, and minerals. Also, vegans can get protein from seeds and nuts.
I like tennis a lot and watch Tennis matches on TV or on the internet. One of my favorite tennis players is Serena Williams. Do you know Serena is a Vegan tennis player?
She started this lifestyle in 2017 with the support of her sister Venus. She is stronger than before and she won Tennis matches again.

In regards to Tessa’s IG post, just look at Meagan Duhamel’s post….. if we dump on Tessa, she deserves the same criticism🤷🏻♀️
I am sure there are others like Meagen but our conversation topic was Tessa. Not to mention I was a TS fan blog. I hardly cared about Meagen and Eric because I never had high opinions on them, ok? She is very very lucky to have such devoted fans who are ready to defend her. Like I said I am certain she donated anonymously but her photo dump is a poor taste.

I don't see patrice, marie-france or people like brian orser on that list. Tessa can put her name to it without consequence. Current coaches can't. Do you see meagan duhamel on that list even though she has been very vocal about it? Get your scott hating head out of your ass and realize that tessa finally taking a stand on something doesn't need scott to defend her.
LMAO

You know what? If my skating partner left me on a whim to pair up with an abuse apologist, I think I would be a bit of a bitch too, and I think it would be justified. But when Simon Reed says it it's like bitch (derogatory) and not bitch (affectionate) like Meagan has earned.
#poor meagan can't catch a break#i know this is old drama by now but i had Thoughts and needed to share them#figure skating#meagan duhamel

I’m guessing Skate Canada lost a ton of money in the 2020-2022 period. They didn’t have any skating events with ticketed crowds in person starting from 2020 worlds through 2022 nationals if I recall correctly (except for a very limited crowd at 2021 Skate Canada). And this kind of went down the line, including synchro and some of the local competition so they would have been in some pretty dire financial straits.
That’s said, they’ve also had some bad luck and skaters not quite panning out, especially in men’s singles. I think, unfortunately, the prevalence of the Eteri/doping machine has decimated a lot of women’s skating, because so many high-quality skaters left the sport because they knew they couldn’t get anywhere. Like maybe Katelyn or Gabby would have had a different mental state if the playing field had been fair.
Pairs has been a rough go for many countries. The discipline itself has not been able to attract top skaters. But obviously the choice to support Eric and Vanessa in their stunt of trying to make the 2022 Olympics likely didn’t inspire confidence in the teams just below.
Sadly, I don’t think they’re inspiring anyone with the way they’re going about trying to promote younger dance teams. This year will be telling to see whether or not LaLa are rewarded if they skate better than Piper and Paul.
i thought they made a good amount of money from the lower level access programs last season (CAN skate? i forget). but that makes sense that they might have still have been financial issues left from the lockdown seasons
i stopped watching women's skating altogether from around 2019 til Beijing because it was so depressing and toxic feeling. i just couldn't get into it. i'm sure it was incredibly discouraging to a lot of clean skaters
ugh Evelyn Walsh seems happy at college, but the way the Olympic selection for Eric and Vanessa went down after Nationals also sucked. the unfairness of Russia still getting team bronze is upsetting, but did Skate Canada say a word to advocate for their team to get bronze at all in the past two years?
i don't know if this relates, but Meagan Duhamel is one of the very few people in Canadian figure skating who's outspoken, but she's now unwelcome with Skate Canada - it gives the impression that speaking up is discouraged. there are more important things than being nice, if nice is at the expense of what's true or right
Canada is one of the biggest skating nations, but they're sending fewer skaters out to compete internationally than some smaller ones. are they really that strapped for cash? maybe it's easier for European feds to send skaters out because so many of the B and C competitions are relatively nearby? we've had North American Worlds for the last 2 seasons, but there hasn't been a JGP here since 2019, and we get zero or one Challengers in ice dance on this continent per season - this year it's zero

im not up to date with whatever the isu is doing but i know skate canada allows same sex/gender partnerships in pairs and ice dance (im so excited to see that in competition, like think of all the possibilities from the shake up to the traditional male-female dynamic!)
but speaking of battle of the blades i think it would be super fun to see, like we could have idk meagan duhamel and natalie spooner skate together, we could have andrew poje and, who knows, jaromir jagr
i would love to see tessa and mo do battle of the blades together

allegedly the ladies FS sold out. There's only so much you can pin on the location and the weather. Like setting aside the price too! If I had the opportunity to watch CanNats in person in perfect weather for FREE I wouldn't bother. US Nats is actually worth watching on stream and in person. Imagine a national championships of a major federation that does not infect any and all onlookers with crippling depression!!
You are so correct, the state of Canadian skating, is, for the most part, completely abysmal, especially the singles. It's tragic. Our ice dance is mired in scandal, we have a hag team that should have retired years ago, and our excellent third place team is sadly injured. Pairs is Deanna and Max, a giant gulf, and then some very messy/unseasoned teams. I can't even talk about singles.
The top 6 women at US Nats outscored all the skaters at Canadian Nationals -- none of whom met the minimum TES. Just...what the hell? Le sigh.
I'm not joking when I say I want Meagan Duhamel to perform a coup and put herself in charge of Skate Canada, she would have us ready by the Olympics and fucking thriving in 3-4 years.

Eric Radford and Vanessa James are teaming up for team Canada. And i have some thoughts.
Firstly, they are both abuse apologists. Eric for working with John Coughlin after his abuse allegations came out. Vanessa for continuing to work with and support Morgan Cipres after his abuse and grooming of children was made public. So I will not be supporting either of them.
Secondly, it has been reported that Meagan Duhamel (who still performed with Radford until the pandemic) was not informed of the situation until the rumours started to become public. As a result, Meagan will stand to lose a lot of income from various skating shows and events who will unlikely hire her as a singles skater. The whole situation has really left her in the lurch and regardless of your personal opinion towards Meagan, this is a terrible way to treat someone.
Lastly i want to quickly point out my issue with the Skate Canada federation supporting this new pair. It is a further continuation of their habit of relying on veteran skaters to bring home international medals whilst not investing in the next generation. This is what led to the absence of international Canadian dominance following the many post-2018 retirements that affected every discipline.
