U16 Camogie Report Naomh Eanna 2-9 Rasharkin 0-7 After a long break in fixtures Naomh Éanna u16 Camogs met rasharkin in a top v third clash, Rasharkin having been top and undefeated, the hightown girls on the other hand had suffered a massive demoralising loss to second place creggan kickhams in the their previous match. The hightown wind was strong but unusually very warm, the girls were up early and seemed nervous but in good spirits. The game began with early attacks for the glengormley side but only wides to show. Rasharkin struck first blood, followed by another score. Ailbhe Kane then hit two long range points before rasharkin hit two more. Dearbhile McGivern then slotted over from close range. The work rate up front of Ciara O Connell, Meabh Magee & Rebecca Stewart was not rewarded with scores but did tire a strong rasharkin defence, Rasharkin taking the final score of the half going in by two points the lead. Half time 0-5 / 0-3 The second half seen Rasharkin start with venom in their attack determined to try and put the Eanna girls to the sword but with great saves from Ciara McDonnell and Zara McCann, Philomena McLarnon and Shannon McKeown working like crazy Rasharkin talented forward line was contained and restricted and with all their attacking only gained a further two points. With the battle cry from Dearbhile controlling the half back line The glengormley side came alive, dearbhile scoring a further 0-2 herself, followed by a brilliant point from hard working Ellie Murphy. With Rochelle Taig and Ailbe MacGruigan getting on top in middle of the park, Bronagh McCann, Brianna MacGruigan and Meabh Magee celebrating her birthday started to make life difficult for the visitors defence. Ellie Murphy put the ball into the box where Brianna beat her marker and scored the Naomh Eanna first major. Ailbhe Kane then struck 0-2 from frees followed by a well taken goal of her own. On a night that started with players nervous and unsure of the outcome against their traditionally stronger opponents it ended in glory. The first victory over Rasharkin for the Camogs was a sweet one and these girls now continue their prep for championship. https://www.instagram.com/p/B0Q_yFahjSV/?igshid=689uk6u9bjkx
