“He’s not the dad.” You roll your eyes, cheeks flushing a little.

“I’m not discussing my neighbor’s looks with you.”

“Who likes who?” One of your other friends asks.

“Someone’s got a neighbor and won’t share any details about him.” Friend A says.

“Ooooh! Spill it!!” Friend B grins.

“Fine, fine…” You roll your eyes. “So, maybe I like him. Anddd, I might have a ‘date’ planned with him for Tuesday…”

“A date?!” Your two friends practically squeal.

“Tuesday is literally a few days away, we need to get you an outfit! What’s the location?” A asks.

“It’s just the aquarium, and I kinda just said date but it’s more like a hang out…”

“…You’re joking, right?”

“No? What’s funny?”

“Did he come up with the aquarium?”

“Yeah?”

“Oh, he wants you.” B grins.

“Huh?!”

“Definitely.” A giggles. “He sought you out and said, let’s go to the aquarium, no little brother. I wouldn’t be surprised if I saw you Wednesday with hickeys.”

“No way! He’s not like that other guy I babysit for!”

“So you did sleep with dreamy eyes?”

“That’s not what I meant! And I didn’t!” You cover your face and sigh. “I meant he’s not as flirtatious as Gojo.”

“So he’s a quiet, mysterious type?”

“I guess you could say that. He was kind of intimidating when I moved in next door, but he’s actually really sweet.”

“Yeahhh?” A leans in, loving the way you sound so in love.

“But anyways, his little brother is a sweetheart and I wanted to buy him some new toys.” You grab a tiger plush Yuji would like and pay for it.

You shop more with your friends and they grab revealing clothes to tease you about your “mystery man” and laugh with you. You really enjoy your friends, even when they tease you about Choso.

You come home with some new clothes and save the toy for tomorrow when you babysit Yuji. You pass Choso and smile, and he waves a little with a smile of his own, tilting his head at the bags in your hands as you walk into your apartment. Neither of you can wait for Tuesday.

Choso enjoys his nights when it’s just him and Yuji. They’re eating dinner and Yuji makes a mess of his face and tries to make Choso laugh. Choso, of course, laughs at how cute his little brother is.

Choso sits in the bathtub with Yuji, washing his pink hair as the boy talks about any little thing he can.

“Megumi wants to be a veteran! The people that work with animals!”

“ Veterinarian?”

“Yeah! He’s got two dogs that are still puppies and they’re huge!”

“I’ve seen them before, they’re still puppies?”

“Yeah!”

“What do you want to be when you grow up?”

“I wanna be a firefighter! I’ll get super strong and save a bunch of people!”

“A firefighter?”

“Yup! I wanna drive a fire truck!”

Choso chuckles and dries the boy off, helping him into pajamas and changing into his own nighttime wear. Yuji giggles and reaches for his brother’s tattooed nose.

“You have some dirt!” Yuji smiles and tries to smudge off the ink.

“Yuji, this is my tattoo!” Choso laughs.

“Noooo, it’s dirt!” Yuji giggles.

“Oh, come on, it’s been here your whole life, Yuji.”

“Permanent dirt!”

“That’s not how dirt works!” Choso laughs. He picks his little brother up and walks over to the living room to watch a movie.

Of course, The Lion King, Yuji’s favorite movie is put on, and he falls asleep after Hakuna Matata plays. Choso finishes the movie anyways, holding his sleeping brother close and rubbing his back.

Once the movie is over, Choso tucks Yuji in and carefully shuts the door. He goes to bed and sets an alarm to get ready for work and let you into the apartment. He loves his little brother.

The more I try to learn about sudan, the more mad I get because I’ve been digging through reports and there’s barely any coverage. It all echoes the same thing with older data from 2023. I keep trying to find firsthand accounts of Sudanese people and I can’t. This is so unfair
