apparently now on tiktok, arab influencers living in Europe and the us are blaming black people are being âcolonizersâ đ„Ž saying weâre responsible for whatâs happening in Gaza due to our government. Thereâs actual genocide and atrocities happening in Palestine Congo and Sudan, Somalia but anti blackness still finds it way to the conversation
LMAO Muslims should know they're walking on thin ice before attacking Black people. If we really wanted, we would DRAG them down in the pit of shame (lf there's one thing Black ppl can do good, is pull out a good dragging campaign. Muslims are just good to send death threat whenever they are attacked, which lacks humor entertainment and savoir faire - which we black people naturally have when it comes to drag people đ)
The moment we clap back, they're done for. Should we remind them they ALSO colonized and enslaved Black people? That until this day they're still entertaining slavery towards Black people (I'll never forget how QUICK they got back at it after Kadhafi assassination) and that their own prophet established Black slaves had lesser value than those with white skin? BYE.
I've always acknowledged that Arabs could be very anti Black that's why I tend to roll my eyes when they talk about afro Palestinian to trigger the sympathy of the Black community towards Palestine, because it.s obvious they don't care about black people.
Here in France Black Muslim moids are doing TikTok live everyday because they seethe they can't have non Black Muslim women because Muslim moids are known negrophobe who refuse to have a Black in their family. Black Muslim married to non Black Muslim are often bullied by their wife family because they're black đ I laugh from afar bc I literally don't have a dog in this fight but that's why I don't have much sympathy for Black Muslims either. They entertain a religion that's explicitly discriminative of people like them yet still upkeep it and are at the forefront of defending this religion and screeching about islamophobia at any given opportunity SMH
I personally do care about Palestine on a humanity level (I don't need to remind there are people "like me" out there - though I already talked about the hypocrisy of Zionist Christians when there ARE Christian Palestinian ) but also as a Christian, I acknowledge Zionism as the synagogue of satan and therefore have the moral duty to fight it.
I've always wondered how the propaganda about Christianity being the "white man's religion" worked, when Jesus wasn't White, that you're not compelled to learn & read the bible in a White culture language, and that a handful of non white civilizations Christianity predates the conversion of Western nation.... The Bible explicitly states God doesn't discriminate based on gender, condemns the sperging on genealogy (God literally doesn't care about who you are or where you come from - As_Long_as_You_Love_Me - Backstreet_ Boys.mp3. friendly reminder that Jesus had a prostitute in his ancestry). Meanwhile Islam is literally Arab supremacism (you HAVE to read/learn Arab to properly grasp the Quran, go to the Mecca as (one of) the fulfilment of your Muslim life, etc.).
Christianity is fundamentally universalist and that's its biggest strength. There's no official Christian language or "place to go" (beside heaven lol). Another clue that's the Truth.

oh no, I'm sorry. I didn't ask to try and get you to give information about yourself you'd rather keep private. I personally don't care what anyone's ethnicity on here is. I wanted to ask that because I wondered about the thought process behind the renaming of mixed anglophone trans people. Also was thinking about the potential societal pressure mixed trans people might feel to conform to some degree when renaming themselves. I know some immigrant parents give their kids local names to fit in
so I thought maybe t. people do that too and wanted to ask you that. Tho I realize my question wasn't clear on that. I don't think you need to worry about talking abt your ethnicity tho. Atrocities sure, EVERY people have a history of them. They're always committed by a group of people tho. It's never a defining trait of an entire population. You shouldn't have to add a disclaimer like that. If people online or where you live have made you feel bad about that I'm sorry, but they're blockheads. or not just mixed people but also 2nd gen immigrants and such. well it figures that people would consider naming themselves in their other native languages as well. I guess the everyday racism can be too much when coupled with the transphobia. I don't think you are a coward at all.
Oh no don't worry, you're good, it's just that I'm being careful for general internet safety reasons/not being visible to parents or employers here. I don't mind sharing my naming process in more detail (I'll add it under the cut in case it answers any other questions you had).
The disclaimer was definitely me being hypervigilant because of tumblr being tumblr moreso than from actual bad experiences that have happeend to me. Generally people don't even know the history of the area well enough to use it to justify racism against Turks, but I have seen it happen a few times. I mostly just don't want to be associated with Turkish nationalists, but yeah it really isn't something anyone should have to worry about when saying what ethnicity they are. I do think that if, say, Kurds or Armenians hate Turks that's kinda justified though.
Anyways I hope this helps answer some questions? I can't say racism and transphobia weren't things I thought about, but I pass pretty well as cis and white, so they were probably less significant than for some others.
Funnily enough, I think my dad (Turkish) who actually wanted to give us more typical English names as kids but it was my mom (white) who was like "nooo it's so much more interesting to give them Turkish names" and didn't really understand why he was apprehensive about it until we started like, getting shit at school for it lol. 2000s islamophobia + elementary school kids parroting youtube and all that lmao
I actually didn't really have memorable incidents in high school, just everyone mispronouncing the name to a point where I just kinda stopped bothering to correct everyone. I was probably less bothered by that than most cis POC would be, since it wasn't a name I really intended on keeping anyways. I did consider whether or not I should go with a Turkish name, but I was mostly just like "man this is annoying, I don't wanna have to explain how to say my name all the time" yknow? I also didn't feel particularly strongly about wanting to keep a Turkish name since like... my parents had some bits of Turkish stuff around at home, but I can't speak the language and I wasn't really raised with distinctly different cultural values or religious practices from the average white kid. It's not that I don't think it's important, and I understand why it's important to a lot of other people, but it didn't feel critical enough to me to have a signifier to everyone about it.
(Plus, uh. Kinda heavy but my mom was catastrophizing at the time about how me transitioning would impact the family and threatening suicide if people found out that I was trans and traced things back to them, so I definitely didn't want it to be anything that would give hints for that.)
Michael was actually an impulsive compromise with myself around not outright kin naming (Mikaela -> Michaela -> Michael) lmao. I don't regret it though; it's been so fucking funny having a common name so I can get online "hate" messages like "why is your name Michael" and so friends can send me new shit like this regularly

HEYYYYY ^_^ rambling below the cut
@sevennone
"New Spanish-Language Website Highlights Latest LosVGK Initiatives" from vgk
The new site is accessible by clicking âENâ or âESâ or the globe icon on the top right corner of the English site. Vegas is the first NHL team to produce a version of its website in Spanish and the second to offer two languages (joining Montreal, which has English and French).
NO WAY???
i doubt yall want to see me recite the los vgks (vgks hispanic and latino inclusion initiative) accomplishments but if i ever cared about what yall wanna see i dont think we would be two reblogs deep here now would we
(you could see it for yourself on the article itself!)
because THEIR PODCAST HATES ME i can only find the episode i believe youre referencing (Knight Time at Noon, episode #97) on amazon music. it is also a 47 minute episode and im not transcribing that within a reasonable span of time.
...unless?
the answer is i actually dont usually do well with podcasts cause i accidentally start tunin them out and then i gotta rewind it over . i do this a couple times LMAO
(also my bones disagree with transcribin right now. this post does NOT need to be longer trust me.)
for the interested, the section concernin los vgk goes from bout 15:10-23:20!
brings a tear to the eye :') genuinely worth the read + listen!
@stereax
right off the bat i had no idea what hockey night in canada was until right now LMAO i am unfortunately a sharks blogger through and through i dont know anything about hockey outside of the san jose sharks
(for anyone in a similar boat, hockey night in canada is the cbcs nhl cast ^_^)
IN PUNJABI? YOU PROMISE?
i will make an active effort to be normal. but thats CRAZY <3
(hello, neonfretra in the future! i failed.)
its fairly unfortunate that its ALSO a post season exclusive service, punjabi speakers canNOT listen to nothing games ... !
(i do wonder WHY its such a common trend but my guess is just finals are when viewership spikes and thats when broadcasting companies benefit the most from multiple language streams. unfortunate!)
theres this segment from "Hockey Night in Canada, with Mr. Chapared Shot" by Harnarayan Singh that piques my interest actually! (warning: the article contains sikhophobia and islamophobia against a sikh person)
The most famous term on the show, hands down, is chapared shot. We donât have a word for slap shot in our language, so we took the word that means a slap to the face and added on shot at the end. Itâs been a HUGE hit. Iâll be out shopping or something, and Iâll hear, âMr. Chapared Shot!â Or kids will come up to me and demand that I say it. There are others that I really enjoy, too, though. When we mention the penalty box, we use Punjabi words that equate to âthe box of punishment.â And weâre always referencing chai tea. Like, if your team had a bad period ⊠maybe they need a cup of chai tea during the intermission.
THIS IS CRAZY FOR ME ACTUALLY...
PUNJABI CAST IN JOKES AND MEMES... thats awesome... hello... sounds good sounds natural... <3
actually i cant stress enough how crazy it is to read when casters put cultural terms into casting to ME! its really fascinating to read, ESPECIALLY because the two broadcasts we have read in this post so far are about selling the sport to a new demographic of nonhockey fans
to me it does feel like a sort of bridging of the gap in that sense with their new fans by not just tossin them into the deep end with technical terms or literal translations
which is what makes something a good translation and adaptation while existing as a completely separate cast!
yeagh...
A lot of times, itâs spur of the moment, but Iâm proud to say that the general style I use has its roots in Punjabi culture. If itâs a big enough goal, and if the name fits, I always try to let the last syllable go on as long as I can â at the very least, I try to beat out the goal horn. And that comes from Punjabi singers, who are known for trying to compete with each other to see who can hold a note the longest.
(note: emphasis my own)
AWESOME. NO NOTES. i have nothing of worth to add. i love the way cultural raisings imbue you with certain associations .
(again the full article is worth the read! it follows the personal journey of singh as a caster and the work put into getting hockey night in punjabi off the ground and on air)
i feel the need to stress that there ARE other leagues and that nhl isnt the only way to watch a game in preferred languages. but it would be incredibly nice to be able to watch an nhl game in punjabi or asl any time of the season the same way french and spanish are options (AND WITH LIMITATIONS AT THAT...!) (the french are region locked.)
however i will spare the side search of what other leagues out there are and what languages they broadcast in.
REALLY cool is that hockey night in canada actually has provided broadcasts in other languages as well: italian, inuktitut, cree, hindi, tagalog, mandarin, and cantonese
im lookin at wikipedia sorry yall LOL
they chose these based off the most popular languages in the city each canadian team is based in, which does raise the question of WHY THE HELL IS THERE SO MUCH PUSH BACK... its not even love thy neighbor its more just. can we start with thy neighbor EXISTS??? racism is stupid and more breaking news with neonfretra at 6.
also it was baffling to see fully serious, uncritically posted pro forcing assimilation views. hold your opinions, ill hold mine, my opinion is you people are a tar pit .
but to be a little bit embarassing, it is actually incredibly exciting to realize how much there has been on a larger scale level for quite a few languages <3 its not a secondary language, non white non english speaking communities DO exist and ARE worthy of acknowledgement and involvement <3 i WANT other people to watch my terrible no good team. EYE know that anyone, me or my friends or my enemies or the stranger i will see twice in my lifetime, have a place in somethin as indulgent to watch as sports without havin to assimilate to the english speaking demands of the times!
... but only for the playoffs
do you see the problem with me talkin about my personal feelings towards these sorta casts. nothin new to be said and anythin of interest ALREADY covered in these articles <3
@planesandtrainingwheels
oh howdy! :) unfortunately this years schedule hasnt seemed to be posted yet u.u but aptn has a designated hockey in cree page if you want to look out for it! i wouldnt hold my breath, last seasons schedule was posted in january
they also have a dictionary of key vocabulary which is always interestin! ^_^
not all phrases included have an english translation and im not goin to try to figure how to do it myself in live time, so ! make do ^_^
(but if you ever wanted to learn a new language you can always hit up the plains cree language resource website though! just dont make me do it over the span of one post)
Roughing â Ä-wÄ«-pÄspinÄ-nĆtinikÄt (he is almost going to fight someone) (...) Slashing â Ä-kakwÄ-wÄ«sakatahiwÄt (he is trying to hurt him) this one can be translated several ways but the intent of this is trying to impede another player with their stick by hitting them and hurting them Too many men â Ä-osÄmiyaticik (there are too many of them)
you know what this actually explained the difference between a roughing and fighting penalty to me LMAO
(also laughed at there are too many of them. THERE SURE ARE! its a really good penalty name in both languages)
i do like the more literal meaning these compared to the more abstracted concepts because let me be honest with you. its INCREDIBLY hard to summarize some of these rules (and even then . how the heck we goin to even simplify slashing here!) (he is trying to hurt him why not) (you could argue they are in fact tryin to hurt each other the way an axe tries to hurt a log)
all this talk does make realize WOW hockey rules have some pretty weird names huh (WHAT IS INTERFERENCE!!!)
another article that caught my eye personally was "Veteran broadcaster hopes Cree 'Hockey Night in Canada' can help save language" by Gemma Karstens-Smith
i really did mean gatherin interest and supportin language learners in my first post (im part of the problem of dying languages! HELP!!!) and to know that hockey night in cree shoots for the stars does make me. you know. want to just carry that same hope! ^_^
The 60-year-old broadcaster from Canoe Lake Cree Nation in northern Saskatchewan is set bring the sport he loves to his community in a whole new way next month with the debut of "Hockey Night in Canada in Cree." "It means a lot. We're losing our languages across Canada," said Iron, who'll do play-by-play in Plains Cree for the six national NHL broadcasts. "We're trying to save the Cree language. And it'll help. Even to call a hockey game in Cree, it's a big thing."
one of the major things about castin in all these different languages is the connection ^_^ watchin sports is honest to god one of the biggest social experiences ive had and its an easy conversation facilitator.
ive observed a LOT of readings of peoples personal gaining from these casts being that they created connections with their peers that they felt a cultural gap with, having a similar grounds for a love of sports, and their family members they felt a generational gap with, learning the language of their family or having a way to include their non english speaking relatives in the conversation.
and from a completely unrelated angle, how many friends do you got tryin to learn japanese or korean because of the things they watch or read or listen to! my friend found music and television to be a massive help in her own journey to learn a language!
bringing your own culture and language to a massively popular platform like the nhl is HUGE to sharing and keeping it alive
crack open a broadcast in a different language! toss yourself into that show whose tropes you think are weird! its fun, trust me :)
also unrelated, their tag line? of sorts is "kitÄskwÄw, pihtikwahÄw" means "he shoots, he scores" like baby i wish my team knew how to do that
GOD I NEED TO CUT MYSELF OFF. we are NO LONGER going back to elaborate. we are NOT adding any more.
thank you yall for real though! would not have known bout ANY of this otherwise <3
and POST!!!
maybe nhl in asl has given me a taste of the epic highs and now i am too spoiled . whats stopping us from doing this all the time ... whats stopping us from casting games in whatever popular languages in the area of a teams are ... maybe spanish speakers want to watch nothing games as well as the stanley cup final what then ... have you never wondered what kind of translations of your favorite players names there are out there ... heres how we can force people to actually learn those two or three or four languages theyve always wanted to pick up ... gather interest in learning less well known languages ... ill go first and then get dragged for exclusively sayin nothing related to the game LMAO
#neon etcetra#reboggle tag#my bodys explodin ^_^ chose a hell of a time to get into long form writing#SUFFERING for my art#<- the suffering is taking breaks until my hands feel normal#AND THEN MY ANKLES FEEL ABNORMAL#LMAO my complex inner life#YALL ENABLE ME TO YAP!!! SO MUCH!!!#HI :3

do you have any thoughts on how dune approaches and uses islamic language and concepts? genuinely curious bc i feel like there are lots of layers to the situation
ok so before anything i gotta state a few things so no one on here acts a fool: this is MY opinion as a brown practicing muslim whos like halfway thru the first book and has seen the villeneuve movie like 4 times. so,
as i said i cant rly talk about the book(s) cause i havent finished it/them but ive seen the movie. here is my general feeling about it : it felt good to me. TO ME. yes my standards are awfully and scarily low but im so fucking tired of seeing us portrayed as tyrans, terrorists, Bad Desert Guys, that Dune felt GOOD. im an african melting pot of several countries and ethnicities but im mainly north african and specifically from the edge of the Sahara, i have touareg roots. ive heard some people say the fremen are a bastardized version of us, but i PERSONALLY didnt think so. it was a shame that stilgar was played by javier bardem tho, wouldve been great if they casted an african or middle eastern actor instead.
now all that isnt even an answer to ur question im sorry skfhkd but i just felt like saying that it felt. good. now more specifically about the way some parts of dune were heavily inspired by islam and islamic language.
to me, again, TO ME. it also felt good. i didnt see a problem with it, becausz it wasnt mocked or misused or anything, like. most religions have the concept of messiah. most religions have prophecies. again, dune didnt mock any religious or spiritual concept. there ARE layers to this but to me none of them felt insulting. when we see in the movie fremen pilgrims praying and meditating for a few seconds, i felt so warm bc. its me!!! its what i do!!! and its on screen!!! and its not used as a way to degrade or ridicule the people practicing it!!!!!
i'll finish this by saying that even if i havent finished reading the books....isn't dune supposed to be criticism about white people invading the middle east for oil anyway???? like. the fremen arent the bad guys. theyre PAINTED by the harkonnen as the bad guys. yes YES i know paul atreides is a white savior but tbfh i couldnt care less like this fucking book was written in the 60s lmao
anyway i hope at least some of this makes sense bc im rly tired and also i almost broke my ankle today so im in pain rn lmao but yea thats a general summary of my feelings about all that. it probably doesnt cover everything i have to say but thats all for now
again before anyone opens their throat at me : i have not finished the books, im brown and muslim myself, and most importantly its fiction. i have real problems. i better not see any white or non muslim people clowning on this post trying to explain to me what islamophobia is. thank u <3

lightssup tumblr com/post/662634463776407552/ok-but-what-does-harry-holding-bi-or-trans-flags here's the thing tho. Straight ppl dont care. We dont care about WAVING a pride flag bc it doesn't matter to us as much as to queer folks and that's the FACT the tea whatever, and we dont care bc it doesn't affect us and will never do in the same form that affects the real queer community bc we will never go through the same shit and fucked up things/situation than them bc of the society we are in. And IF an straight person does wave a flag it would be in two, three or five occasions but not in EVERY FUCKING SHOW. These idiots are 1. Homophobic 2. Antis who hate the real person that their fave is 3. Willingly avoiding a truth in favor to keep their wattpad novel alive. Ps. I really dont wanna make it look that me as a straight person doesn't care about the lgtbq+ community. I do, I really do but firstly me as a straight person know how this shit would be IF any of them were straight and 2nd I know this is shit and I know ppl aka het teens and antis will say bUt thAt's noT hOw iT rEallY is lmao pls stf that actually how it is bc ppl are selfish and if something doesn't affect them then they dont care about it AT ALL and that's on that. Now just for the giggles, what makes me so sure about the hl situation is that if they were really straight they wouldn't give a shit about pride flags and signs (of any kind) and the situation would be really different. I cant explain it all in an ask but just to point out: Louis would really have a son and be married by this time and Harry probably too something like justin and hailey, pretty sure we will be getting a LOT of pics of a LOT OF things from backstage, we will not EVER for a minute will be getting some come so far princess park shit and you know what? We will actually be getting pics of these two together since day one from hiatus. And of course, IF this straight image was real harry would have been the godfather of Louis' son and yes, we also will be getting pics of freliot all over the place. But guess f what folks.
Hi bby,
THANK YOU for the honesty and perspective. You do not sound like anything but a truthful ally who is self reflective of their position. Thank you. No gay person expects or wants to see every straight person waving a flag on the way to work every day. Thatâs not the point at all. You hit the nail in the head. He would not be doing that if he was straight. Thatâs literally the end of the story.
People need to start being honest with themselves. White folks: are you waving a BLM flag every day? are you? No, you are not. Christians, are you speaking out about islamophobia often? No, you are not. Able body folks, do you actually think every day about how much the world is build to keep disabled people excluded? No, you are not. Pretending you are is just lying online to look woke. And it is because when something is not directly attacking you, your willingness to fight on it is necessarily lower. Itâs human nature. Our compassion to ourselves will always outweigh compassion to others. This is not news, this is not a Take. Itâs just how stuff works. Itâs not bad or good. Itâs neutral human behavior. Real activism is not pretending you understand what it feels like to be in that group. Itâs not taking front and center. Itâs learning, keeping your eyes/ears opening, supporting where your support is meaningful/wanted and changing your and your loved onesâ beliefs/habits.

Sorry for my confusion/ignorance, but I thought Nazis were illegal in Germany?? Iâm not German, so I really donât know. Can you please explain it to me?
oh yeah sure!
well! they are illegal :)
you'll get fined (I believe) for flying a swastika flag or doing the nazi salute. it's super funny actually when tourists think they can just do the salute in public and are immediately arrested by the nearest law enforcer lmao
the AFD (=alternative for germany) are not openly nazis. they are just very country-focused and go on about wanting to put the Volk (the people) first, which of course appeals to people a bit down on their luck or just entitled old assholes
they are openly against immigrants and refugees ("freeloaders"), argue against climate politics, and are for some godforsaken reason against the EU and want to focus on Germany first.... they also want to leave the EU which. sure jan.
their definition of "family" is strictly "father, mother, children" and they have some ideas to reward keeping to that structure (like, you know. they did during nazi germany when you would get perks if you had a lot of children)
and they're against anti-discrimination laws! fun! and they would stop gender politics entirely if they could. also fun!
also. islamophobia go brrrr. they literally want to prohibit wearing burkas and niqabs and all kinds of headscarves in public schools.
I probably missed a lot here, but I'll just show some of their election posters to demonstrate :)
this one loosely translates to "diversity? already got it!" and those ladies are wearing traditional german garbs
"new germans? we make those ourselves" again, against immigration
"back then as today: we are the people" :))))))) that's what the nazis used to say too! :))))
and this next one especially boils my blood:
"my partner and I don't care for muslim immigrants, to whom our love is a deadly sin"
I Have No Mouth Yet I Must S C R E A M
THEY DON'T EVEN SUPPORT GAY MARRIAGE (WHICH IS ALREADY LEGALISED, THANK GOD)
BUT WE'RE GOOD ENOUGH TO USE TO PERPETUATE ISLAMOPHOBIA HUH
HUH????
there's a reason we rip those posters down every chance we get.
anyway, hope this helped!
#i am so tired guys#so so tired#these people are in our parliament#ask#anon#tw nazis#tw islamophobia

It kinda confusing to me how people think it's absurd Sana/Amira/Imane left their religion but would love if Yousef/ Sofiane who grew up in a religion that didn't suited them went back to Islam or Dani convert. I would hate both. Religion is a big deal and I would never convert to be with someone. And if they showed that, it would have be on their own season , not Sana's. It would be better a relanshionship where both of them practice the Islam. Where NO ONE would have to change something so big
+ so it makes sense to me that Dani and Amira didn't end up togheter. And we don't know if the other Sana's end up with their pairs. They are just teenagers and this big decision can be dificult when they are older.
Hi anon đ I think this issue is more complicated than âif Sana/Amira/Imane wonât leave Islam, Yousef/Sofiane/Dani shouldnât have to convert (back) to Islam either!â
I think one thing Skam España got right is that the Sana/Yousef conflict is on a subtextual level about integration. I read opinions of people who arenât in fandom and arenât interested in the opinions of Muslim and poc, and one thing that struck me about these conversations is which s4 characters they regarded positively and why. For instance, Elias drinking was regarded positively because to them it meant that Elias was letting go of his Muslim values and adopting Western values by drinking. Similarly, Yousef leaving Islam because he perceived Islam to be harmful to his white friend was also regarded positively.
In real life, second generation Muslim Immigrants can become atheist or Christian or neopagans or be more or less devout, and it can happen because they woke up one day and saw their religion had been harming them, or harming their parents, or harming a white friend or a woman or a gay person or whoever. A hijabi can marry a Christian man or a Hindu woman or a Taoist nb person. The problem is that media/art doesnât happen in a vacuum. The Sana seasons are occurring at a time of great Islamophobia in the western world, where people are being fed the idea that the greatest enemy to LGBTI people are Muslims (I can tell you the biggest threat against LGBTI people in Spain arenât Muslims, but right-wing parties and their adherents). Muslim people are being told to leave or be ousted, at worst, or ~integrate and adopt western values~, at best.Â
And tbh, these networks making Sana seasons because theyâre contractually obligated to do so are scared as fuck, because the islamophobic propaganda machine is really powerful. Entire media conglomerates sustain themselves on portraying Muslims as Public Enemy #1. So they do these lukewarm seasons where the Sanas are shown to be on the receiving end of islamophobia, racism and misogyny, without pointing fingers to the people at fault (because in some ways, these media companies are the people at fault, esp if theyâre in the news business, and profiting off pitting the poor against each other).Â
Anyway. I wouldâve hated a storyline where Dani converted to Islam, because Dani wouldâve still been a whitewashed version of a moc. (Yes. Yes he is. The Dani/Amira conflict is the Sana/Yousef conflict over religion and integration. Give it up already.) But I also agree that a conversion storyline for Dani wouldâve only made sense if Dani had been the main, because he would have had the most dynamic character arc of the two. Other than that... As an atheist (so, like, I have no idea what Iâm talking about, really. I donât particularly care about peopleâs relationship with religion because itâs not my business lmao), I think religion is a big or a small a deal as you want to make it. Some people have a change of heart and convert in 7 weeks and some clips. Some others are born again later in adulthood.Â
If I pretend Yousefâs character wasnât originally a moc, I think I couldâve been interested in Dani converting. But lmao no network in the western world has the utter balls to go against the Islamophobic propaganda machine in such a way.Â
(Anyway, for people who think Iâm just a hater who haaaates interfaith relationships, I ship Petter and Zehra in Blank, and I ship many interfaith and interracial relationships! Fuck, I even ship Vilde/Sana and most of the remake versions! Go suck your toe and leave me alone!)

hi anya! not the same anon. someone posted a good google docs resources in ur replies but wanted to make sure u saw: docs.google /document/u/1/d/1_ef5kHPvQRkR_cgGlJvMZY0EWGiy8MXZAOvLQxKDHgI/ // also a good question to ask is why does the west want to care about muslims now? when have they ever cared in the past (i.e: islamophobia, sanctions)? ...whose interests does it serve for the media to report about them?
ok after doing a quick skim through of this (because it is STUPID long) i find its veracity highly questionable. none of the sites linked to are what i would call credible, and a couple of them are literally just blog posts ppl made with, again, incredibly suspicious or straight up nonexistent sources. on top of that, several of the news articles were either from pro-ccp sources (thegrayzone ones in particular) or were direct from the ccp (by way of chinese media/news outlets) themselves. admittedly i only thoroughly looked through the first two categories, and skimmed the rest, but all that alone is enough for me to consider this claim basically false
im definitely noticing a rise in anti-chinese xenophobia, both in everyday life and in american politics, and i wont deny that western news outlets likely arent spreading these stories for altruistic reasons. but to straight up deny the reality of the internment camps in china is perplexing to me, and also quite similar to what both the U.S. and germany did with their respective concentration camps during wwii. unless ur a tankie - and if so ur in the wrong fuckin place cause i hate tankies LMAO - theres literally no reason for any leftist to back the chinese government or its system of governance, because its not communism or anything close to it. its imperialist capitalism wrapped up with a red bow.Â
i know ur not the same anon but u should probably consider doing a bit more research into where your info is coming from before taking a hard stance on anything. both pro-ccp and chinese news outlets/websites have an obvious bias and a reason for why theyd want to obscure the truth about these camps. it doesnt take much critical thinking to put that together. im always skeptical of western news outlets too, especially when it comes to foreign affairs, but i think its kind of irresponsible to accept that the conflicting info MUST be correct simply because it exists. keep that in mind for the future

16. What do you look for in a SO?
Honestly I look for someone who I can vibe with. Iâm a big fan of people who have a deeper understanding of life, whoâve also been through things, because Iâve learned that they end up being more empathetic and empathy is SOO important to me. Someone who is a good communicator. I love goofiness. I tend to vibe closest with others who also love music, thatâs such a soul connection for me. I look for kindness and passion. I also love when someone is community oriented, into social justice, cares about more than themselves. Mindfulness is another thing, like Iâve worked so much on mental health and self awareness that I need someone whose also taking care of their own mental health and issues they need to work through. Like Iâm here to love you through it all, but I canât fix it for you. Iâve spent a lot of time in roudy, anxious, tumultuous relationships and I just want something that allows me to be myself and be at ease. đ
20. What are your deal breakers?
Ignorance, Chosen helplessness (the victim mindset- as in like the world is constantly against them and everything happens to them), Racism/Homophobia/Transphobia/Islamophobia, People who are nonchalant about everything, Toxic Positivity, When actions donât line up with words.
21. How was your day?
It was okay. Today was my Dadâs birthday and the other day I actually got my confirmed Juris Doctorate degree and sooo itâs been quite the ride processing everything without him here. He was my number 1 fan and it just felt weird without him here to celebrate, plus Iâm the first lawyer in my family of 100+ people, so everyone was in tears when I got my degree, itâs been a lot paired with the exhaustion of bar prep đ
25. Your fears
Iâm scared that Iâm not meant to have lasting love. I donât know, like I know deserve it, not afraid to be by myself, yada yada buuut I just feel like Iâm the one who is like the stepping stone for others? Itâs weird. Like I have people who like me, want a relationship, etc. But it feels like Iâm not gonna find my person? Itâs complicated lol â ïž
My other fear is leaving this Earth before I can leave a lasting impact that helps others
27. Your goals
Lmao, they are all over the place đ€·đ»ââïž
I wanna pass the BAR.
I want to be a Public Defender while continuing to advocate for reform in the Criminal Justice System.
I want to continue to work on Human Rights and Immigration cases to stop violations, reform broken systems, and just help others.
I want to open my own firm.
I want to be a Professor eventually to help other first-gen students of color.
I want to continue to spread so much f*cking love that it radiates out of me.
I want to continue heal, and to help others heal.
36. Your pet peeves
They are pretty much aligned with my deal-breakers!
94. Write 3 things about yourself - only one of them must be true
I love pesto.
I wonder if weâll end up together.
I once had green hair.

paul krugman and the art of doubling down on shitty takes
so on september 11th, famed nyt editorial writer, keynesian economist and fave of your racist liberal uncle, paul krugman, wrote one of the shittiest takes I have ever seen on twitter, which is SAYING SOMETHING.
krugman famously tweeted this:
and got a million virtual shoes thrown at him for being so ignorant, because anti-muslim hate crimes did actually escalate after 9/11, and the bush administration eagerly fanned the flames of islamophobia in order to make their illegal wars in afghanistan and iraq popular with the public. muslims, sikhs, indians, literally anyone vaguely brown, and lots of black ppl too, were terrorized by their neighbors, (former) friends, classmates, coworkers, etc. and anyone with a muslim friend knows this happened because they've told us about it. and these attacks were reported on. they were, I remember reading about them when I was a kid.
(paul krugman works for the new york fucking times, and while I think the nyt is warmongering centrist garbage, they do actually report on things that happen in the world. he writes editorials for them, surely he reads the damn paper once in a while).
so today, I log on to twitter and see he has decided not to apologize, but rather do the ol' double down, which always works out well.
here are some highlights:
okay so first thing's first, no apology (obviously) since this is a double down. but we got a chart, and liberals do love a good chart when they are being racist and ahistorical.
he admits that the chart is actually inaccurate because it excludes all the other victims of anti-muslim hate crimes who weren't actually muslim (read: the innocents). okay. so already he is losing credibility because he is using an inaccurate chart as the basis of his double down, and really, we love to see it.
after this there's some shit about how he didn't say there wasn't an outbreak of white americans attacking muslims and people mistaken for muslims, but rather that it could have been worse. lol well anything can be worse than it was, as 2020 has taught us. itâs a pedantic mess and I didnât feel like that was the meat of the double down.
so first off, the iraq war was definitely started for many reasons, but islamophobia was part of it. the bush administration wanted to invade iraq and depose saddam hussein, and steal iraqâs oil for multinational oil companies lbr, and so they exploited americansâ fears about muslims by propagandizing about how it was important for us to attack them over there before they attacked us over here with their weapons of mass destruction, and of course they would attack us over here if given the chance. why? because they hate our way of life here, our freedom. those things were LITERALLY said by bush people and also by their stans at fox news and the wsj, and yes, in the editorial pages at the nyt.
so to someone like paul krugman, who knows lots of conservatives who donât seem racist, or are educated and distinguished and just... like war? idk but to him, he sees people like them and says, well... theyâre not like uneducated filthy poors in west virginia, not that kind of racist.
but what he doesnât get, or he is being deliberately obtuse about, is that in order for the bush people to dehumanize muslims the way they did, they had to personally place less value on the lives of iraqis than on the value of that sweet crude oil. they were willing to go to war, sacrifice hundreds of thousands of civilians in the process (as well as thousands of american soldiers, but this isnât about them) because they didnât see them as anything but collateral damage. and that is fucking racist.
and while I have no interest in playing the âwhich racist is worseâ game, when the west virginia uneducated racist endangers those around them, the politician rich harvard educated racist writes policy and lies us into illegal wars that endanger millions. both are bad, both are racist.
and by the way, him âsticking his neck outâ to speak up against going to iraq was brave and necessary, especially because the nyt was pushing the invasion. but when you put it like that... you just sound like a tool. like it was a burden to call out the liars and imperialists. bitch, youâre paul krugman, a nobel laureate and renowned economist. I do not want to discount the IMMENSE pressure and blacklisting that opponents of the bush administration experienced, because showing any opposition to the wars at the time was risky. but idk the way he put that just irked me, especially since he didnât even lose his job like many in the media did when they spoke up.
usually what liberals do when they fuck up publically is a fake ass apology and a few hail marys, and I assumed he would be on twitter begging for forgiveness on this one since his garbage take went so viral and pissed off so many people. and of course was wrong.
but then he does this:
yeah. your eyes are not deceiving you. that chart is measuring anti-black, anti-lgbtq and anti-âislamicâ (lmao who says that bro just say anti-muslim or islamophobic) hate crimes. shut up leftist twitter, black people have it worse than muslims according to my inaccurate chart. so stop attacking me, a rich white man who doesnât really care about anything other than my reputation.
there is a lot to unpack here, namely that paul krugman is using faux concern for black people as a way to deflect from his shitty ahistorical take about how much restraint white americans showed after 9/11 towards muslims. maybe krugman doesnât know any black muslims, but they exist. also oppression olympics is stupid even when used by well meaning essentialists, let alone by milquetoast academics.
not to mention that he has already discounted his own shitty chart by saying it doesnât show the full picture of what happened in these anti-muslim attacks. but even if we take this chart seriously, it actually does not really support his point. look at how many more hate crimes there were against muslims in 2001 than there were in 2000. there are significantly more black people than muslims in the united states. I am not good at math, and surely I am no nobel laureate, but it seems to me that hate crimes against black people increased a little, and hate crimes against muslims increased a lot. and this chart only takes into account three years, and only two of which are post-9/11. so... idk man maybe we should look at what happened in, say, 2003? 2004? how about all of the 2000s?
(source: https://www.pri.org/stories/2016-09-12/data-hate-crimes-against-muslims-increased-after-911)
oh, that is actually pretty consistently bad! yes, there was one spike in 2001/2002, but it isnât like we went back down to pre-9/11 numbers afterwards. and I am not sure if this information includes non-muslims targeted for âlooking muslimâ but I would say it is unlikely, since the data seem pretty similar to krugmanâs olympic shit.
I am not writing this because paul krugman is particularly shit-for-brains, or because I hate him more than like... idk any other moron on twitter. there were plenty of anti-muslim takes on twitter friday like there are every 9/11, and every day. but krugman is actually someone liberals respect. he is, after all, a nobel laureate and a keynesian economist, and fairly mild mannered. when people in the media like krugman write these ahistorical shitty takes they are, as chomsky wrote, MANUFACTURING CONSENT. it is a deliberate tactic, and it works. and if you want to learn more about this theory, check out this short clip by al jazeera narrated by amy goodman (of democracy now). the media manufactured american consent when they pushed the wars. they continue to do so when they try to rewrite george bushâs history by making trump seem uniquely terrible to muslims.
elites in the press and in government have been trying to whitewash and rehabilitate george bushâs reputation for YEARS, and they are succeeding. and why would they want to do that? well, there are a lot of reasons. one, a lot of people in washington are complicit in bushâs crimes. two, democrats think they need to appeal to moderate republicans (lol) in order to win elections, and I guess they think there are moderate republicans left (lol!), and that those moderate republicans like george bush (LOLLL). three, they want to make trump look uniquely terrible. if they do that, then no one but trump needs to be held to account for his governmentâs failings. but these are just my speculation.
do not let them rehabilitate george bush any further than they have. it is a fucking shame he will never be held to account for war crimes, but an extra slap in the face to all of his victims when we act like he didnât do things he did. like stoke anti-muslim hate. he invaded muslim countries with a smile on his face, and that is pretty fucking hateful.
paul krugman doubled down and tried to use Black Lives Matter like a human fucking shield. seems a bit racist imo.

5 clips from skamesp season 2 that you think are underrated
this is acc a realllllly good question bc iâve giffed my favourite clips of the season but most of them are pretty obvious so here are the most underrated clips of the season (i put it under a read more bc it gets longgg):
#1: miércoles 18:29/ser como todo el mundo (to be like everyone else)
this is actually one of my favourite clips of the season and was the first one that acc made me really love what skamesp was doing. itâs their version of the religion talk from the og but (unlike other remakes) they acc change the context to fit the story theyâre telling. cris doesnât lash out as isak did (because theres no precedent) but we still get to see amiraâs thoughts on her religion and what it means to her personally because of the islamophobia from crisâs mother. we also get that layered conversation where amira feeling isolated is brought up and paralleled with cris and her feelings. i think theres a ton of stuff here which people donât appreciate enough and honestly think its one of the best clips of the season
#2: lunes 11:02/foros de internet (internet forums)
the first clip which really tackles the theme of sexuality in the season. before this i got the impression cris was prepared to go along with whatever she felt for joana. however after realising joana has a boyfriend cris is really hurt and thats when crisâs internalised homophobia starts acting up. the direct effects of this clip can be seen in the season afterwards. the comments saying that a girls attraction to other women doesnât matter or is wrong directly leading her back to ruben and the comments about how the commenter âcanât stand women who look like menâ leading to her homophobic comments - âdo i look like a d*keâ - with eva and lucas. that as well her her dad going around calling football players f*ggots mean that when cris is feeling shitty about her feelings, though not specifically about being attracted to women before now, means that this hurt is weaponised and fuels her internalised homophobia
#3: jueves 14:31/o todas o ninguna (all of us or none at all)
the way the girls all support each other when theyâre down is why i even watch skamesp and we see the difference in the way cris actively starts to avoid using partying (though this probably isnât as positive as it could be since it has to do with her mostly feeling sorry for herself). then we obviously have the talk with hugo. cris hasnât been one to care what others think, out of the girl squad shes the one which would most likely fit in with ines and her friends if she wasnât perceived as being so weird and didnât stick with amira as her best friend, but as we see earlier in the season (and in the clip i just covered) cris doesnât want to be perceived as gay if it will hurt her in the long run. at the time this clip aired cris was really quite sad, so her saying âoh fuck it whatever i donât careâ shows a positive growth in accepting her sexuality. also alejandro was nice to viri in the clip
#4: lunes 18:16/estarĂĄ con la regla (she must be on her period)
german rap??? with strangely specific lyrics that relate to crisâs situation? it was unexpected but good lmao. i donât have as much to say about this clip as i do others but i think it was great for the Mood and showing just how worried cris was, and also at the same time we got reassurance that joana was okayÂ
#5: lunes 11:31/ÂżcĂłmo paso de alguien? (how can you forget someone?)
i remember when this clip came out people thought that it was irrelevant or useless because it was the last episode and people thought it focused more on viri than cris? theyâre wrong. just because the clip didnât explicitly bring up crisâs problems every 2 seconds doesnât mean the clip wasnât entirely focused on her. the clip managed to present many different ways cris could handle the situation she was in, both directly, such as what eva said (basically move on), what viri said (go back to her) and indirectly such as when the girls told viri she shouldnât be hurting herself for a guy (which is clearly, obviously, a parallel to cris feeling like shit every other week because of joana). it also has great development for viri as a character and strengthens the girl squad as a core group of girls who all love and support each other. we see cris help viri and her deciding to hang out with the girls despite feeling shitty (as a comparison to when she basically wallowed in her feelings for a week). its a good clip and people should have seen that when it dropped

hello Isabelle, yousana secret gifter here, I hope you're doing well, I have a few questions for you about yousana! First of all, you've said that you'd like to receive a gift for skam og or skamfr or druck, any preference? and if you could tell me why yousana (and/or its alternate versions) is important to you and why you love them? did you watch the og while it was airing or did you discover them later? have a good day!
hi, yousana gifter!! idk if i have a preference.. maybe skamfr just because there isnât that much content out there (for understandable reasons đ) and i really love imane&sofiane(before he went out of character and started dating manon lmao) and the potential their story had. an interracial romance between two dancers in france in 2019?! the potential!i discovered skam through an advert on swedish tv. the ad had sana in it and i went !!!!! because poc are extremely rare in swedish/scandi tv. as a woc myself i was really intrigued so i looked into it. i didnât really follow the show live until s3 or specifically after seeing the clip where eskild calls isak out on his shit and then the one where the boys help isak text even. i really have a soft spot for the wholesome boy squad relationship so that was what really sold me on skam.i think the big reason why yousana stuck with me was because of how s4 was written. how soft and normal julie&co wrote yousef and the balloon squad from the very first episode. it is truly SO RARE to see brown teenage guys be portrayed the way my classmates + my brother and his friends were and are. especially when a lot of scandi racism/islamophobia is based in the idea that brown boys (esp in group) are violent, sexist rapists to be feared. having the wholesome hei briskeby content and yousef being out here wanting 12 kids and working at a day care was just really important to see. iâm really grateful that cengiz convinced julie not to make yousef wilhelm 2.0. on a more light hearted note, i also just really love the dynamic where the girl is super intimidating and smart and the boy love interest is just like đđđand of course the fact that sanaâs love interest was a brown boy?!?!?! growing up, all the scandi movies i can remember with a poc had a white person as the love interest and skam really came through and gave us brown romance. thatâs the main reason why i keep getting interested in the remakes of sanaâs season.

For anyone who wants to learn more about Judaism! Also, kind of a post about how to deal with some Things and Stuff. This is a long post so Iâll put it under a read more for those interested:
This is really for an anonymous message I got that described struggles with things that I think many of us struggle with or have in the past: not being âJewish enoughâ in the eyes of other Jews due to your heritage being on the âwrongâ side (read; on your fatherâs side), yet still experiencing antisemitism from goyim. Not learning very much, if anything, about Judaism as a child but wanting to learn more as an adult. Not being comfortable with some traditions or laws of Judaism because you are a) a feminist b) LGBT c) an atheist. Living in a place with few to no Jewish spaces. Not feeling welcome in the Jewish community due to any or all of these things.Â
Book recs!
If youâre the kind of person who enjoys reading (or can at least tolerate it) I highly recommend these books! Theyâre all books that I have either read/started reading/or plan on reading. (Please keep in mind that none of these are Jewish texts such as the Torah or the Talmud and that I do understand the importance of such religious texts but am not recommending them because I feel those are obvious sources of information)
A Bride for One Night if you arenât familiar with the Talmud, itâs a collection of writings and explanations of Jewish laws and traditions and itâs old as balls. The author of this book, Ruth Calderon, takes a bunch of Talmudic stories and makes them into these wonderful beautiful stories that are easier to read than the original ones from the 3rd and 6th centuries. Even if you donât know anything about the Talmud this book is so fascinating and fun to read.Â
The G-d Who Hates Lies is literally perfect for you if you have issues with how women are viewed and treated in the most traditional sense of Judaism. Itâs a really great criticism by people who are extremely qualified to make those criticisms (both are rabbiâs and I think they both have doctorates in theology, specifically Modern Orthodox Judaism, which makes for a really cool viewpoint). I canât find anything about the third author of this book, who is a woman, but itâs comforting to know that a woman had a part in this as well. Obviously these people love Judaism, they just want to see it adapt to modernity. Just in general itâs a really thoughtful book that challenges dogma.Â
Jewish Literacy was recommended by an anon (thank you!) The rest of the title is âThe Most Important Things to Know about The Jewish Religion, Its People and Its Historyâ so like. Ya get what ya see here folks. HOWEVER I did see a review that mentions there is some Islamophobia and hostility towards Jews who are antizionist. It does genuinely look informative and I havenât read it myself so I canât attune to whether or not that review is accurate, but maybe be cautious if you read this in knowing that the author may not be objective.Â
Book of Mercy made me openly weep and feel something tender and weird in my heart and like. Okay so itâs not informative so much as itâs a book of poetry by Leonard Cohen (he was Jewish if you didnât know!) He calls his poems âmodern psalmsâ and honestly this would be a good read even if you arenât religious at all because his writing is just so gorgeous. But it does have references to Judaism and his identity as a JewÂ
Understanding Judaism is really a âbuilding blocksâ kind of book to me, if that makes sense? Itâs really informative but also really basic and is fantastic for people who know very little about Judaism or just want a well presented understanding of the core aspects of the Jewish religion. Even if you arenât a Jew whoâs looking to learn or someone who is considering conversion itâs still a good book if youâre interested in world religions regardless of your faith or lack thereof. (man Iâm starting to sound pretentious lmao I just mean like, if youâre an atheist or Catholic or whatever, itâs pretty interesting and also this guy is kinda dorky-funny so it makes for an easier read than some other books about religion)
Shmooze I think this is meant to be more for a group to read an discuss, and like, also maybe meant for a younger audience (Iâm talking about teenagers so not really that young, but if youâve been reading dull infodumps by 90 y/o Jewish rabbis with doctorate degrees this is gonna be a change of pace lmao) I should mention that Iâve only read like two pages of this book because I saw it at Barnes and Noble and just kinda briefly checked it out so I donât know a ton about it but it stuck in my head and the reviews look positive soÂ
Obvious I donât think you have to read all of those because I havenât even read all of those so maybe just check one of them out if it seems like it could be helpful to you.Â
Judaism here on tumblr dot com:
Okay so like. This is really my personal diced onion so take it however you will but keep in mind that this really only reflects things Iâve come across and how I feel.Â
Obviously there are a lot of really great blogs about Judaism but I donât have any specific ones to recommend Iâm sorry :O I really really hate ~Discourse~ and like, in-depth arguments about the Holocaust because I get so wrapped up in it and letâs be honest, tumblr is all about the discourse and ignorance. That being said, I like to follow other people who are Jewish and blog about whatever because that usually leads to safer discussions and also is a great way to find really helpful thoughts and discussions by other Jews about topics like being LGBT, being a woman, being an atheist, etc. These are just nice to read and also if you arenât familiar with certain Yiddish or Hebrew terms that are commonly used itâs a good way to see how and when theyâre used in certain contexts.Â
Iâm going to tag anything like this that I post here as âgood infoâ just so me and anyone who wants can find this stuff easier. No they wonât necessarily have anything to do with hockey.Â
Also please be very careful when youâre reading a post that is presenting certain things as facts, always double check what someone is saying because misinformation is spread so quickly, and itâs almost always unintentional. The things that I find genuinely helpful/safe/fun involve opinions, common feelings and experiences, little personal stories and jokes, cool stuff like that.Â
Iâm Jewish on my fatherâs side :0
Me too boo. Unfortunately thatâs an unending discussion, and one that is often held by matrilineal Jews and doesnât actually include patrilineal Jews, nor does it consider our thoughts/feelings/experiences. Without sounding like an idiot, it is absolutely buckwild to me that there are people who have been raised Jewish, have never known anything other than Jewish tradition, have been subject to antisemitism, but still arenât considered Jewish.Â
And then this is where I see matrilineal Jews who hold this viewpoint bring up Reform Judaism, which is one of the three main branches of Judaism and does recognize patrilineall Jews as Jews. Iâve seen some discrepancy as to whether or not patrilineal Jews had to have been raised Jewish in order to be considered Jewish. This is all well and good for Jews like me whose family practices Reform Judaism, but for patrilineal Jews who wish to practice in an Orthodox or Conservative synagogue, it gets tricky.Â
Basically, yes this is a huge topic that inspires a lot of disagreement, and that sucks, but hereâs what it comes down to. No one else is allowed to make you feel inferior because of your heritage. So many people, even modern Orthodox Jews, recognize that certain aspects of Judaism need to adapt to todayâs society. I donât want to offend anyone here, but I really do feel that most matrilineal Jews who donât consider us Jewish are extremely hypocritical (for a lot of reasons but mostly like...yâall really follow every aspect of Jewish Law? Like do you really? All of it? Girl do u? Or are you maybe just being elitist). Learning about your heritage, talking about shared experiences, combating antisemitism, these are all things that are fair game for you (especially for the anon who said they were atheist) and going to Shabbat services, praying, participating in holy days. Thatâs all yours if you want it, bubbeleh.Â
Can I be an atheist Jew?
Sure you can! I, personally, am not an atheist so I wasnât comfortable finding specific resources about this because I donât really know much about it? Itâs fine with me if youâre atheist thatâs none of my business, I just donât want to direct you to a bad source. But yes, many Jews are atheist, many are secular, Iâm sure there are many here on tumblr. Itâs absolutely okay, Judaism is an ethnoreligion, and while you may experience Judaism different than the rest of us, youâre still a Jew and still belong.Â
Hereâs an excerpt from a short lil synopsis of Judaism:
These three connotations of Judaism as a monotheistic system, as a literary tradition, and as a historical culture are sometimes viewed separately. For example, there are Jews who see themselves as culturally Jewish, but who are also non-religious or atheist, often identifying more strongly with Jewish âpeoplehoodâ than with traditional understandings of God and Torah. Even so, all Jews would recognize that these three points of reference have shaped and guided Jewish experience through the ages.
Jewish âpeoplehoodâ that they talk about is like. Culture, customs, food, art, history, etc.Â
One last little note on this, youâll hear a lot that Judaism focuses more on actions than on beliefs. This is an excellent article that is pretty short and worth reading that I want to include because I think that even if you donât believe in G-d or even if you are seriously questioning, the focus on just. Doing good. Actively doing good things and trying to be a good person (I know thatâs objective but bear with me) is a such a huge part of Judaism that you can try to incorporate into your life without having to subscribe to any sort of dogma or beliefs that you donât hold. âJudaism is certainly a faith-based tradition. Belief in G-d is central to our religion. It just isnât a prerequisite. If you are Jewish, you are so regardless of belief.âÂ
But Iâm a feminist....
As you should be. This is probably another personal statement you gonâ wanna take with a grain of salt, but I think Judaism, especially in the last 50 years or so, has made huge strides in this. Especially Reform Judaism, but that kind of goes without saying.Â
Example, my synagogue was founded as a Conservative synagogue. Our website still says we are. Iâm not actually sure tbqh, like I said, my family are Reform Jews, and so are most other families in our congregation I think but this is literally the only synagoge for like hundreds of miles so. Anyways our rabbi is female (Rabbi Shaina!) and she does great work, we all love her. Sheâs really adament on teaching kids that gender shouldnât keep you from anything, that Judaism is for all Jews, that it should enhance our lives. She wears a tallis, lays her tefillin, and reads from the Torah.Â
My point here is that while this isnât like, the end of misogyny in Judaism as we know it, itâs still a big deal in most religions to have a woman as their religious leader, essentially a position of religious power. For men to accept a woman as a religious leader is not something that is super common in most religions. And weâre like, a tiny congregation over a hundred miles away from anyone else, technically a Conservative synagogue, thatâs super loving and accepting of a feminist running our shit... female rabbis are super common and I think it speaks a lot to how weâre progressing as a religion. Reform Judaism is going to be your best bet when it comes to tolerance but knowing that all three of the main branches are progressing, at least with this, is really comforting to me.Â
However, thatâs an extremely one sided view and doesnât really show the issue as a whole. This super short article (? not sure) is a bit pessimistic in my mind but presents the other side of things and gives a good explanation of the traditional sources of misogyny in Judaism, so this could further your understanding as well.Â
By no means are we perfect but weâre workin on it. Look into Jewish Feminism though, if you have the time. That article is just a lil intro to the topic.Â
Iâm Q*eer/LGBT and Iâm not sure yâall are gonna be cool with that...
Well this oneâs a doozy.Â
Iâll kick this right off by presenting an article that is objective and does not reflect the authorâs opinion, just lays out the issues at hand. It also has some links to other good pieces, including one cool story about a transgender man, Rafi Daugherty, embracing his role as a father and details his experience with pregnancy and giving birth. I should mention that I am cisgender so Iâm interpreting this article through a different point of view, but it really does make a point of celebrating Rafi and his daughter and sharing their story. It does include a little cultural background context, but this is a positive story that I think deserves to be shared :)Â
Then thereâs this statement from the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism that confirms its absolute acceptance and support of LGBT Jews.Â
On the other side of things, there are still homophobic and intolerant Jews. Conversion camps were not just a Christian thing, there were Jewish conversion camps as well, which is horrific. Idk what to say because I think homophobia and transphobia in Judaism is really similar to what you would find in Christian settings.Â
Iâm bisexual and I feel completely welcomed by other Jews who know this about me, and I certainly donât feel any less Jewish because of it.Â
I live in a place where Jewish spaces are rare.
I really hate to disappoint with this one but I donât have any specific sources or anything like that. Alls I got to say is thatâs why the internet is so great? I really donât feel like thatâs helpful at all, but I think for the most part, the Jewish side of tumblr is pretty accepting and welcoming. Obviously thatâs not always gonna be true though idkdjaskfl;dj
I spose with this one I wanna encourage anyone who has any good resources for involvement or something like that to reply to this post or drop by my inbox and let me know! Or maybe just your thoughts on some Jewish spaces youâve encountered?Â
I hope this was helpful
In conclusion, donât let anyone make you feel less Jewish. Your sexual identity, gender identity, and even your belief in G-d doesnât take away from your Jewishness. Iâd like to say that since I started delving into Judaism a little more Iâve found a lot of peace. And yeah that sounds cliche and also vague but itâs really a breath of fresh air to learn about my family and know more about this community. Also if youâre comfortable with or willing to try prayer, even if youâre atheist, it can be a good way to decompress sometimes, a really therapeutic kind of way to voice your thoughts and feelings and reflect on them.Â
Thereâs so much information and culture to delve into but itâs so so worth it to learn and Iâm really happy for you that youâre interested in getting more in touch with your Jewish roots.Â
If any of these links donât work and youâd like to see them let me know!

an official ranking of the worst to best episodes of the new season of roseanne
go cubs (aka the episode where roseanne must overcome her islamophobia) - i go back and forth between which is the worst of the season between this and the next listed episode, but i think this one takes the cake. there's barely any jokes (and the jokes that do exist are Bad and honestly very gereric), everything that happens, especially the ending, is predictable, and the lesson is kind of........ badly done, considering i don't think roseanne really learned anything about not being a racist asshole, she just learned not to be a racist asshole towards her neighbors....... once they did her a favor :/ lame
roseanne gets the chair (aka the one where roseanne thinks darlene isn't being a stict enough parent) - this one only ranks above the last ONLY because there are actual jokes in the episode, but other than that, this episode is awful and was hard to watch. roseanne way overreacts and calls her fifteen year granddaughter a bitch............. just for hogging the washer and dryer. and the big ~twist that harris was stealing the clothes she was washing to sell on etsy???? was very predictable. didn't they already do this plot in the original run, where roseanne found a pack of cigs in darlene's clothes?? and that was thirty years ago jesus christ. aside from that, even though harris is annoying as hell and completely one dimensional, i still feel for her. who the hell would want to uproot their life to live with roseanne??? lmao
knee deep (aka the one where the basement floods and dan loses his cool) - this one and the next one may as well be tied for all i care, i can barely tell them apart from each other. and episodes where dan freaks out always make me feel uncomfortable. there's just something so.......... tangible about dan's anxiety and outbursts that gives the show such an uneasy feeling
netflix and pill (aka the one where dan realizes roseanne has a drug problem) - roseanne is............. not a good actor. she never has been, and she's only gotten worse with age. so watching her pretend to be high off painkillers was............ weird. and unfunny. and uncomfortable. i just don't understand why roseanne's bad knee had to take up TWO WHOLE EPISODES. there were only nine episodes this season!!! and two were utterly wasted!!!!
no country for old women (aka the one where roseanne and jackie argue over who will take care of bev after she gets kicked out of the nursing home) - i was so excited when they brought bev back for an entire episode. i love bev!!! and i love when roseanne and jackie team up against bev!!! some of my favorite moments from back in the day revolve around that very thing. but this episode............... just fell flat. it was so disappointing. roseanne was neutral at best, on bev's side at worse, and it was kind of annoying to watch jackie come to the same realization she did thirty years ago - your parents suck and that'll never change and you just have to deal with it. i really felt like i was just watching a worse version of an episode i've already seen countless times. there are some funny jokes, sure, but the episode as a whole was pretty lackluster.
darlene v. david (aka the one where darlene and david ALMOST get back together) - i really...... don't love darlene in the reboot. she's kind of a wishy washy, watered down version of her former self, and this episode really dislays that. i don't believe that she'd still be into david after all the bullshit he put her through (suddenly leaving her and his children behind to literally leave the country for a few YEARS and then coming back and getting a new girlfriend before even telling darlene and his kids that he was back), and it's really icky and disappointing to watch her kind of grovel for him to come back and help. and then when he's like i want a divorce and she's like well what if i don't sign the papers........... um ew. i don't believe darlene would ever be like that lmao that's pathetic behavior. and okay. the whole reason they don't get back together is because david gets all whiny when darlene makes fun of him and is like WAH WAH I'M YOUR EQUAL and i'm like.............. bitch when???????? their whole relationship was that way from the very START. if he didn't like that how did they not only date for several years, but then get married and stay together for that long????? not to mention procreate??????? it just doesn't add up.
dress to impress (aka the one where darlene's son gets bullied at school for dressing like a girl) - the main plot of this episode is pretty predictable, but it's nice that everyone comes around in the end. i like this one more for the side plot than the main plot.
twenty years to life (aka the first episode aka the lore episode) - yeah!!!!! lore!!!!! this one is basically plotless, and is more a series of jokes and updates to what each character has been doing since the last time we saw them, which i'm fine with. a lot of the more plot-heavy (?) episodes this season were so lame, so i don't mind. i know this is probably a controversial pick, considering this is the one where roseanne reveals she's a trump supporter, but she's the weakest part of the show anyway, and it sets up a lot of good jokes for other characters to make at her expense.
eggs over, not easy (aka the one where becky finds out she'll never have kids) - of every episode this season, this one felt the most like i was watching the show i grew up with. it had a great balance of heart and humor, which is something the original roseanne did better than any other sitcom i've ever seen, where sometimes the emotional stuff felt so out of place and forced that it was hard to watch. just like with the pilot, we get more backstory to what everyone has been up to for the past twenty years, specifically becky. i love any episode that come with lore, and this one comes with a lot of it. i like how the worked mark's death into the show, and i love the bonding between becky and darlene, who have one of my favorite relationships on the show. i don't know, it was just a really good episode and i hope that the next season has more like these, and less like the episodes further down on this list.

I see you reblogged those black and brown power pictures. What are your thoughts on those?
the photos were taken during the rodney king revolt...which is black history.however don't get it twisted, I am categorically against black people unifying or expressing solidarity with any non black people (anywhere in the world).if you are black and you have time to champion other causes or band with other people, you have bad time management skills because in every "marginalised group" black people within those groups are treated the worst.....you want to care about islamophobia? black muslims exist, who have to deal with anti-blackness from non black muslims as well as anti-muslim sentiment from the rest of the world.......you want to make a stand against anti-LGBTQIAism? black queer/trans/gender divergent people exist and deal with not only a unique blend of oppression were heterocissexism coalesces with anti blackness but also heterocissexism in intrablack spaces.......you want to stand against capitalism? or patriarchy? or anti-immigration laws and deportations.......black working class people, black women, black migrants and refugees are everywhere etc etc (none of this is to suggest that there are not black people who have multiple identities and oppression to match)."ok but what about if by default I'm against all of those things" if you are black, unless you specify the blackness of who you are fighting for then it is a waste of time, not radical and counter productive........."marginalised groups".....do not come as 1 type, there are hierarchies within them and in every ladder black people are pushed down to the lowest rung.....so to have a "general and inclusive" political stance.....is like opening a soup kitchen and feeding everyone when you know some people haven't eaten in days where as others had dinner last night.......like I do find it amusing seeing black leftists hyperextend to champion palestine (lmao I was one of them for damn near a decade....but that's everyone who grows up in a muslim household tbh) and other causes and it's like...either you don't know about what black people are going through globally or possibly internalised anti-blackness is stopping you..."but I can care about more than one thing ,no??!"you could have infinite "care" slots.....anti-blackness is a global phenomenon....trust me, all of your slots will be filled.#[only]BlackLivesMatter[to me]
