John and Paul on each other: A Compilation
John:
"He [Paul] looked like Elvis. I dug him."
"I'm like everyone else, Harry. I fell for Paul's looks."
"..an old, estranged fiancée of mine called Paul."
"Paul...you're so well-built." (X)
"Groups like this are normally not friends. They’re just four people out there thrown together to make an act. There may be two of them who sort of go off and are friends, you know...Strictly platonic of course."
"Oh, I've had him, he's no good."
"I was riding on a boat called Paul, and now I'm riding on a boat called Yoko."
"I've compared to a marriage a million times and I hope it's… understandable. For people that aren't married. Or any relationship. It was a LONG relationship. It started many, many years before the American public, or the English public for that matter, knew us. Paul and I were together since he was 15, I was 16."
"Nobody ever said anything about Paul's having a spell on me or my having one on Paul! They never thought that was abnormal in those days, two guys together, or four guys together! Why didn't they ever say, "How come those guys don't split up? I mean, what's going on backstage? What is this Paul and John business? How can they be together so long?"
"Well, Paul had met Linda before [the Apple press conference], you see. I mean, there were quite a few women he'd obviously had that I never knew about. God knows when he was doing it, but he must have been doing it."
"I don’t even think about Paul unless somebody brings him up. Or if some song comes out or something happens, they’re in the newspaper. I don’t know why everyone doesn’t just leave him alone—I haven’t really seen him in ten years. I can talk about him forever because I know all about him, but you see, there’s nothing much to say."
[Studio chatter] Paul: I will be overpowering this time. John: Oh good. I like it when you’re brutal. (X)
Paul:
"John was really my only male friend, if only because of proximity."
"[While playing live] John was to the left or to the right of me, so I never got to sort of see him perform so much. Except in the film [Get Back]. And there he is in massive closeup. I can study everything about him.”
“I’ll just sit around and hug him forever, because that’s the depth of my feeling for him."
"And I would often sketch John when we worked together, often without him knowing it. It was so easy doing John because he had glasses, those sideboards...and that long, aquiline nose."
"When I painted him recently, I found myself saying, ‘How did his lips go?"
"I can still see John now: checked shirt, slightly curly hair…I remember thinking, ‘He looks good - I wouldn’t mind being in a group with him."
"James reminds me very much of John in many ways: he's got beautiful hands. John had beautiful hands."
"If I'm going to see a face in a painting, it's highly likely to be his."
"I still remember his beery old breath when I first met him that day. But I soon came to love that beery old breath. And I loved John."
"I’m often thinking of him. I dream of him."
"Delicious boy, delicious broth of a boy."
"John and I used to hitch-hike places together. It was something that we did together quite a lot; cementing our friendship, getting to know our feelings, our dreams, our ambitions together. It was a very wonderful period. I look back on it with great fondness. I particularly remember John and I would be squeezed in our little single bed."
"There's a song I do called Here Today which is specifically written for John. That sometimes catches me out. I realize I'm telling this man that I love him and it's like I'm publicly declaring this in front of all these people I don't know. I sometimes wonder what I'm doing."
"We are individuals— all different. John married Yoko, I married Linda. We didn’t marry the same girl.”
"Please Please Me was a John idea. John liked the double meaning of “please”. Yeah, “please” is, you know, pretty please. “Please have intercourse with me. So, pretty please, have intercourse with me, I beg you to have intercourse with me.” He liked that, and I liked that he liked that."
"[John] was a wild and woolly genius who it was my pleasure to work with, walk with, talk with and occasionally sleep with. "
Q: If John Lennon could come back for a day, how would you spend it with him? Paul: In bed.
"Then also [me and John] were like married, so you got the bitterness. It’s not a woman scorned this time, it’s two men scorned — probably even worse. And I had to make way for Yoko. My relationship with John could not have remained as it was and Yoko feel secure.”
"I think really what it was, really all that happened was that John fell in love. With Yoko. And so, with such a powerful alliance like that, it was difficult for him to still be seeing me. It was as if I was another girlfriend, almost. Our relationship was a strong relationship. And if he was to start a new relationship, he had to put this other one away."

"his looks at John" I don't know the year, but it's definitely during Beatlemania.
2. "I think I've only heard that lately about Paul" Source
3. "From chance remarks he [John] had made, she [Yoko] gathered there had even been a moment when—on the principle that bohemians should try everything—he had contemplated an affair with Paul, but had been deterred by Paul’s immovable heterosexuality. Nor, apparently, wasYoko the only one to have picked up on this. Around Apple, in her hearing, Paul would sometimes be called John’s Princess". - Philip Norman, "John Lennon: The Life", p. 699
genuine question and i'm aware of how completely insane i've gotten recently but just humour me for a little bit longer does anyone know of any evidence of mclennon/other beatles shipping occurring during beatlemania

analysing mclennon feels like being an academic and pouring over historical texts and connecting the dots between passages because you basically are doing exactly that
#if old white guys can come up with their own beatles theories and write books and be taken seriously in an academic space…#then so should we#i trust beatles tumblr users opinions infinitely more than the opinions of 87% of music journalists out there#ppl will complain about beatles rpf fans cherry-picking evidence as if music journalists aren’t 100x worse abt doing just that#anyway i just really love mclennon lore and finding sources to support our theories#feels like putting my half-finished history degree to good (questionable) use#also enjoy that mclennon genuinely just feels very different to basically any other rpf ship#the beatles#paul mccartney#john lennon#mclennon#beatles rpf

isn't it crazy how john lennon probably actually had a crush on paul mccartney... like we didn't just completely make that one up
#i don't even really buy into now and then being about paul but just thinking about all the other actual evidence it's like. wow ok#mclennon#the beatles

alright so wait a minute. according to the official record the last time paul saw john in person was in 1976, and the last time they talked over the phone was a few weeks before his death (about bread). we also know, of course, that the last words john said to paul was "think about me every now and then, old friend." now.... given the presented timeline, that must have been over the phone, BUT, carl perkins said in his interview about...that whole situation, that linda told him "the last words that John Lennon said to Paul in the hallway of the Dakota building were… he patted him on the shoulder, and said, [quote]." do you see the problem with these two narratives? do you see it? now you could say that john said that in 1976, but then why would paul have such a strong emotional reaction to carl when he said it? clearly those were john's last words to paul ever. so they must have been meeting in person much later than he's admitted. WHATS THE TRUTH PAUL
#am I just late to the game? do people know about all this already??#people -must- have noticed this. is there any other big evidence that they saw each other past 1976?#i need answers this is going in ALL the tags#paul mccartney#john lennon#the beatles#mclennon

Gutted to learn that “broth of a boy” is an old Irish saying and not just Paul absolutely thirsting for John Lennon
#I mean Paul thirsted and still thirsts#maybe both things can be true 🤔#I think there’s better evidence though#mclennon#j/p#the beatles

If we discussed Oscar Wilde like The Beatles fandom discusses mclennon we'd be in other places
That being said you should go follow my Beatles blog @maccas-glass-cornflake
#I'm so up for it if anyone wants to have deep evidence discussions over Oscar Wilde and His Men and such#(except my copy of Oscar Wilde: A Life In Letters is loaned to a teacher right now but thats okay I can still have deep talks)#oscar wilde#yknow what im cruel im putting this under the mclennon tag#mclennon#y'know I'm just afraid that the world will never be ready for Oscar Wilde roleplays (I swear if anyone does this I want to know how-#you got to that point in life before I decide how I feel about you)#now I'll admit I did once write Oscar Wilde in a fanfic once but I think I was a freshman and a theatre kid#and it was Good Omens fan fiction#and it was kinda bad... not the fan fiction but Mr. Wilde was not characterized right if I recall#I swear if anyone goes and finds it I want to review how awful it was#i cringe at my old writings#and I love my readers from back then but why did they cry at my angst fics when really it wasn't that deep half the time (or maybe it was)#(maybe i just write deeper angst now)#(anyways does anyone want to read my gay Victorian romance with a little hint of murder and an examination of humanity)

is there a plaque on the wall where the f1 guys first met though?
Best RPF Ship - Round 1 Match 20
Propaganda under cut
Brocedes Propaganda
it's unlikely childhood best friends to teammates to rivals to bitter enemies to ... whatever they are now (lewis avoids saying nico's name like it's an incantation to cause the end of the world; nico constantly praises lewis and has semi-recently gone on record as saying that in his heart, they're still best friends).
there is a wikipedia page dedicated specifically to their rivalry. they slept in the same hotel rooms as teenage teammates in go-karting. they knew each other better than anyone else did (as one f1 commentator put it, live on air speaking to nico himself, "everything bar lovers.") and their team principal has said there were things between them nobody else could ever understand.
(i started typing out more propaganda but really i was basically just putting in their entire life histories. anyway they live in the same building and don't talk but lewis sends christmas presents to nico's daughters. these men had their teenage codependent homoerotic friendship blow up on live sports tv and it's the most fascinating thing in the world.)
#historical significance has to count for something surely#for further evidence of mclennon insanity please refer to my pinned post <3

There are seven levels of McLennon Hell
Level 1: Denial - What's this "McLennon"? Oh of course there are people that think they are in love. Wishful thinking but wouldn't that be fun ha ha ha
Level 2: Curiosity - I mean ok they were definitely platonic soulmates, right?
Level 3: Queering John - Oh wow seems like there's legitimate evidence that John was bisexual, I guess it's not that much of a stretch to imagine he was in love with Paul, that really changes things
Level 4: What Happened in India??
Level 5: Disillusionment of Paul's Immovable Heterosexuality - Oh they really wrote a lot of songs about each other huh. "I'm in love with a friend of mine," what's that mean Paul? Paul? Why are you so obsessed with queerness Paul? You don't have to mention John, Paul, no one asked!
Level 6: Letting Go of All Sanity - Look at the way they look at each other, it's not normal! Is it...... so crazy to think that they did? Paul is so private and repressed, he would keep that secret. What else could "waiting on the other side for your friends to go" mean??
Level 7: Acceptance - THEY WERE FUCKING THE WHOLE TIME THERE'S NO OTHER EXPLANATION
#I just needed to examine how I got here#i'm sure it's different for everyone#but there are definitely seven levels#paul mccartney#john lennon#the beatles#mclennon

honestly still cannot believe that straight white blokes can get literal john lennon rpf published professionally but anyone who writes anything exploring john/paul’s dynamic in an even slightly un-heterosexual way (fanfic or academically) is discredited
#despite the literal evidence that - at the very least - there were feelings there on john’s part#this is why it’ll be so interesting to see what ian leslie’s book says tbh - i wonder if it’ll be a turning point for things#the literal john lennon rpf i’m specifically referring to is the novel beatlebone by kevin barry#have yet to read it but knowing that john’s internal monologue in the novel does not include gay thoughts abt paul is a turn off for me#like BOOOO NOT ACCURATE MORE GAY YEARNING#the beatles#john lennon#mclennon#john and paul#paul mccartney#beatles rpf

I’m sure you’ve answered this one before, but what do you personally consider to be the single most convincing piece of mclennon evidence and why?
goddddd this is tough bc for me it's all of them mixed together that makes me dead certain
but I'll narrow it to three bc ik lyrics as evidence piss people off so my first two answers are going to be Brushed Off
but genuinely the most convincing to me is "this one" by paul. like the fact that he literally says it's about john and regrets re john and then the lyrics are
like I genuinely cannot think of an explanation for this song being about john than him having been in love with him. like literally can't think of a single thing that could make these lyrics platonic it's literally the most blatant thing he's EVER done
but people haaaaaate lyrics proof bc they'll say paul is a narrative writer and it's not literal (even though he Literally said it's about john lmfao)
so I'll move to John Lyric Proof that is so blatantly referencing paul and them having had a romantic thing going on but. the real life demo. the linked post goes into it, but it's so fucking obvious it hurts my heart for him. in it, he says: "was I just dreaming or was it only yesterday? I used to hold you in my arms. and now a baby, and another on the way. la la la la la farm." which can be about literally no one but paul unless john was having some never heard of before affair with linda. paul was expecting another child & lived on a farm, and right before that john had made a reference to him and linda taking a cruise. and he's crying in this demo. but "I used to hold you in my arms" is the like #1 thing that convinced me that they Had some kind of physical relationship bc the rest of the song is very literal so there's no reason he'd be making only one lyric up
BUT LYRICS ASIDE BC THEY MAKE PEOPLE MAD. my #1 non-lyric evidence has gotta be handed to paul's "if I were a girl, maybe I could go out and..." quote lmao like to me there's just 0 non-romantic interpretation of that one. he's just blatantly saying if he were a woman, he'd let himself feel obviously romantically spurned by john leaving for yoko and he could get him to come back. but he can't, because he's a man. it really doesn't get more obvious than that to me

being a beatle fan and specifically a mclennon shipper is literally just the process of “oh they’re super shippable” to “wow there’s so much real content to go off of for a ship” to “oh my gosh all this stuff ACTUALLY happened and there’s more homosexual evidence between john and paul than i know what to do with”

the problem with being a mclennon truther is that it's very hard to explain to others that mclennon is Actually Real if they don't already believe it like. I swear I'm not crazy like those other rpfers it's totally legit. But to prove it I have to show you a million pieces of evidence you won't care about in general and especially not if you don't care about the beatles already. I'm literally not insane you just don't get it.....
