The Impact of Technology on MBA Education in 2024
The Master of Business Administration (MBA) has long been prized by people who wanted to head corporations. Usually Master of Business Administration degree program prepares graduates for success in a range of management roles by emphasizing fundamental business principles for many years. But the corporate environment in 2024 is very different from what it was even ten years ago. Technology is now an indisputable force that is causing disruption and innovation in every sector of the economy.
This begs the question: How is an MBA in 2024 adapting to this new reality? The answer lies in the MBA technology impact. Let's delve into the ways technology is transforming the MBA experience, from curriculum to delivery methods.
Reskilling for the Digital Age:
The Master of Business Administration program itself is one of the areas where technology has had the most effects. Business schools are realizing that their graduates need to be prepared with the information and abilities needed to succeed in a tech-driven society. The following are some major developments in curriculum development:
Business Intelligence and Data Analytics: Data is the new oil, and any company leader must be able to mine it for valuable insights. Courses on data analytics, business intelligence technologies, and data visualization are becoming more and more common in MBA in 2024. Pupils discover how to use these resources to their advantage to see trends, make wise decisions, and obtain a competitive edge.
Emerging Technologies: Modern tools such as blockchain, artificial intelligence (AI), and the Internet of Things (IoT) are drastically changing how businesses operate. To ensure that graduates are aware of these topics' possible uses and ramifications, progressive MBA schools are starting to provide courses on them.
Digital Marketing: Understanding the fields of digital marketing and e-commerce, which are growing in popularity along with online buying, is crucial for business success in 2024. Search engine optimization (SEO), social media marketing, and e-commerce techniques are becoming standard coursework in MBA programs, enabling graduates to be adept in navigating the digital world.
Experiential Learning with Technology:
Not only is technology changing what students learn, but it's also changing the way they learn. Here are some examples of how technology is being used by MBA in 2024 to make the learning environment more participatory and hands-on:
Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR): Envision entering a 360-degree VR simulation to engage in a challenging business transaction, or employing AR to view corporate data in an actual environment. MBA programs are utilizing this immersive technology to improve case studies, give practical experience, and promote deeper knowledge.
Big Data Simulations and Gamification: The secret to acquiring business abilities is practice, practice, practice. MBA programs use big data-driven business simulations that let students try out various tactics and make choices in a secure virtual setting. Additionally, gamification techniques are bringing a competitive and enjoyable element to the learning process.
Online Collaboration Tools and Learning Management Systems (LMS): Technology makes it easier for students, teachers, and industry professionals to collaborate and communicate. Examples of these tools include online collaboration tools and learning management systems (LMS). Group projects, instantaneous feedback, and anytime, anywhere access to educational resources are all made possible by online platforms.
Accessibility and Flexibility: The Popularity of Online MBAs
MBA Technology's impact has also democratized access to education. The rise of online Master of Business Administration programs has made it possible for working professionals, international students, and individuals with busy schedules to pursue this prestigious degree. These programs offer flexibility, allowing students to learn at their own pace and from the comfort of their homes.
Challenges and Considerations
While technology offers incredible opportunities for an MBA in 2024, there are also challenges to consider:
The Human Touch: While technology can enhance learning, it can't replace the value of human interaction. Developing soft skills like critical thinking, communication, and leadership remains crucial for business leaders.
The Digital Divide: Not everyone has equal access to technology. Business schools need to ensure that their online programs are inclusive and accessible to all students.
The Evolving Tech Landscape: Technology is constantly changing. MBA programs need to be adaptable and ensure their curriculum reflects the latest trends and innovations.
The Future of the MBA in 2024:
MBA in 2024 holds dynamic opportunities that use technology to enhance the learning experience and prepare graduates for the challenges of the digital age. The future of the Master of Business Administration lies in a symbiosis of technology and tradition. By embracing technological advancements while upholding the core values of business education, MBA programs can continue to produce well-rounded and adaptable leaders who can navigate the complexities of the ever-evolving business landscape.

You sit at the dining table, staring blankly at your laptop. The congratulatory messages about your MBA graduation had rolled in, but instead of the sense of accomplishment you expected, there’s only confusion and uncertainty. The question that haunted you: What now?
No one had told you what you were supposed to do now, fully out of education and thrown into the world where you had no idea how anything even operated.
Across from you, Seungmin leans over, trying to peek at your screen. You'd been crashing at their apartment for the time being while you figured out your next move. All of them were happy to have you around, and they had the spare rooms so they hadn't minded you being there at all.
"Still searching for jobs?" he asks casually, his voice light but not helping much. You glanced away from the screen for a second and met his brown eyes that were already sinking into yours,
"Yeah... just trying to figure things out," you murmur, sighing. You've been at this for hours, scouring job boards, but nothing seems to fit. The weight of expectations, both from others and yourself presses down on you. You wanted to do something with the degree, but everything you'd applied for was shooting you down due to lack of 'experience' but how were you supposed to get experience if no one was willing to hire you in the first place?
Jisung slouches on the couch, his playful grin is evident as he waves his phone in your direction.''
"You could always just be a professional napper. I heard there’s demand for that!" His attempt at lightening the mood only adds to your frustration. You knew he was just trying to make you laugh, they all were but somehow they only seemed to make you feel worse about everything.
You didn't want to spend the next few months freeloading off them and mooching your days away on their sofa,
"I wish it were that easy..." You try to smile, but it doesn't reach your eyes. You stared back at the screen, looking through the emails of rejections you'd gotten for the last week and it was making you want to slam your head in the laptop and never look at it again.
Jeongin comes up behind you, giving your shoulder a little squeeze. He could sense that everything was starting to pile up on top of you, they'd been trying to get you to take a couple days to yourself but nothing was working yet.
"Hey, you’ll figure it out. You're literally the smartest person I know!" His words, while kind, don’t quite soothe the gnawing anxiety building up inside you. Felix plops next to you, laying his head on your arm with his deep voice chiming in,
"You’ve got so much time. Why not take a break for a bit and bake with me? Sometimes, stepping away helps...Besides you JUST graduated...you deserve some time off to relax," Though his offer sounds comforting, it doesn’t seem like the solution you need right now. You can feel the boys' efforts to help, but somehow, it all falls short. The uncertainty continues to swirl in your mind, the questions you knew you'd face if you didn't go straight into a job.
"How about we all get food and come back with a fresh set of eyes later?" Chan suggested as he watched you from the doorway. If anyone could get you to do something it would be him and you bit down on your lip,
"it'll be here when you get back, food is essential in life." He told you, and you could tell by the stern look on his face that he wasn't going to drop this easily.
"Fine. One meal." You mumbled as the others practically raced to the door to go and get their stuff ready. Chan watched as you reluctantly shut the laptop screen and got up, making your way over to him.
"I'll help you in any way I can, you know that," Chan whispered as he wrapped his arms around your shoulder and led you toward the others.
"But-"
"Staring at a screen for 24 hours a day isn't going to change anything. You need relaxation, you need a fresh space." He said while cutting you off. He couldn't stand the thought of you sitting there for HOURS on end torturing yourself over not being able to get anything you were applying for. You needed some time away.
It was late, far too late for you to still be awake, but here you were, sitting at the kitchen table once again with a cup of coffee long gone cold. The screen in front of you is blurred from hours of scrolling through job listings. Each click led to more pressure, another wave of doubt. The meal you'd gone out for earlier felt like it had been days ago but it had only been six hours, while it had been nice to get out it did nothing to calm you.
You'd spent the whole dinner pretending to listen to the guys as they spoke but you were agonising in your own mind about what you were supposed to do next.
“Still at it?” Chan’s voice cut through the quiet hum of your laptop. You hadn’t even noticed him walking in. You glance over your shoulder, feeling guilty that you'd been caught when you'd promised him you would leave it for the night. But Chan had known all too well you weren't just going to drop it.
"Yeah, I just—there’s so much to do, and I feel like I’m falling behind." You admitted and for the first time in a long time, it finally felt good to say it out loud. You hadn't wanted to tell the others but it was true. A part of you felt as though you were going to end up failing and never using the degree you'd worked hard for over the last few years.
Chan shakes his head gently, coming over to sit beside you on one of the chairs, his gaze lingers on the clock on the kitchen wall.
"It’s 2 a.m. You should be resting." You could hear the playful scolding coming from him but you shook your head,
"I can’t," you mutter, rubbing your temples. Everything felt as though it was too much right now, like there was a growing pressure pinning you down and if you didn't find something soon you were going to be crushed beneath it all.
"What if I don’t find something soon? What if I wasted all this time for nothing?" The stress in your voice is evident, your anxiety bubbling to the surface. Chan reaches out, softly closing your laptop before you can protest, he slides it off the table and puts it on the chair beside him.
“You’re going to burn yourself out if you keep pushing like this.” Something you'd told him countless times when he was working himself into the ground, but just because you gave him advice didn't mean you had to take it,
“I don’t have time to relax, Chan. I need to figure this out,” you say, your voice a bit sharper than you intended, but he doesn’t flinch, he just watches you with a weak smile on his lips.
"You do have time," he replies calmly. "You just graduated, and no one expects you to have everything sorted right away. It’s okay to take a break." He tugs you gently, guiding you away from the table and forces you to walk into the living room where he dropped you on the sofa beside him.
"I just... I don’t want to fail," you admit quietly, the vulnerability of your words surprising even yourself. You laid your head on his shoulder as he ran his hands up and down your arm softly.
"You won’t fail. But if you keep going like this, you’ll wear yourself out. Then you really won’t be able to move forward." You sigh, feeling the tension in your body refusing to leave.
"I don’t know how to stop thinking about it."
“Then let me help you stop.” His voice is soft, but there’s a firmness in his tone. He reaches out, grabbing one of your hands and gently squeezing, he would do anything to help you shut off for a while.
"For tonight, just... be here. No more job searching, no more stressing. Just relax with me." You don’t answer immediately, your mind still racing with the thoughts of what needs to be done, but his thumb gently strokes the back of your hand, grounding you in the present.
Chan shifts, grabbing the remote and turning on the TV. The soft flicker of a random show fills the room, casting a warm glow around you both. He pulls you closer, and before you know it, your head is resting on his shoulder. His steady presence has an almost immediate calming effect, the weight of the world slowly lifting off your shoulders.
"You’re not alone in this, okay?" Chan murmurs, his voice barely above a whisper. "I’ll help you figure everything out. You have more time than you think." You sniffled a little as you listened to him, taking his words in and nodding your head.
Your shoulders slump as you sighed a little and finally admit everything you'd been holding back,
"I just... I feel stuck. I worked so hard for this degree, but now I don’t even know what I want to do next." Chan’s gaze softens as he listens carefully. He lets you speak about your worries, your fears, and the pressure you're feeling.
“I get it,” he says after a pause. “It’s a tough transition. But you don’t have to figure it all out in one go. Maybe you can start with small steps.” You blink, looking over at him, the TV long forgotten as you stare at him.
“Small steps?” Chan nods.
“Yeah. I know it’s overwhelming when you think about everything at once but maybe focus on just one thing that excites you. We can start there.” You nod at him about to talk when he shakes his head at you.
"But I order for the next couple of days you're to relax...take time...okay?" He squeezed you closer to him as you settled back into the comfort of his arms and the TV.
It had been a few weeks since your graduation, and though you tried to relax, the pressure to figure out your next step weighed heavily on you. Chan had been your rock during this time, always knowing when to pull you away from your laptop, forcing you to take breaks and reminding you that you didn’t need to have everything figured out just yet.
But one night, after another long day of scrolling through endless job postings, you felt like you were back at square one. You sighed, leaning back against the couch, the glow of your screen casting shadows on your tired face.
Chan noticed. He always did. He came over, sitting beside you and peeking at your screen.
"Still nothing?" he asked softly, staring at the email you'd gotten that had once again rejected you.
"Nothing that feels right," you admitted, rubbing your eyes. You were starting to get a tension headache and all you wanted to do was cry.
"It’s like I’m going in circles. I don’t even know what I’m looking for anymore." Chan leaned back, his fingers drumming lightly on his knee as he thought for a moment.
"You know… I’ve been meaning to talk to you about something," he began, glancing over at you. "I’ve got a friend—well, more like a connection in the industry. They’re looking for someone with your exact qualifications." You stared at him and blinked. Chan worked in the music industry and you'd never really thought about asking him for help until now.
"Really?"
"Yeah," he smiled. "It’s not one of those big corporate jobs, but it’s a start. You’d be working in a creative environment, helping manage some marketing campaigns and operations. I think you’d be great at it." The idea sparked something in you—interest, hope.
"Do you think they’d want to talk to me?" Chan chuckled, nodding.
"I might have already sent them your info. They were interested as soon as I mentioned your MBA." You gaped at him, caught between surprise and gratitude.
"Wait, you already told them about me? Chan, why didn’t you say anything?"
"I wanted to wait until you were ready," he said, his voice gentle. "I know you've been feeling a lot of pressure, and I didn’t want to overwhelm you. But I think this could be a really good opportunity for you." You felt a surge of emotions—relief, excitement, and most of all, gratitude for how thoughtful and supportive he had been during this whole process. Tears were starting to build up inside of your eyes and you whined a litt;e.
"Are you serious? I—I don’t even know what to say," you stammered, feeling a warmth spread through you. Chan grinned, nudging you lightly with his shoulder.
"Just say you’ll think about it. There’s no rush. But I think it could be the right step for you, and I’m always here to help if you need anything along the way." You couldn’t help the smile that spread across your face, your heart feeling lighter than it had in weeks. For the first time, something felt right.
"I’ll think about it," you promised, your voice soft but hopeful.
A few days later, you found yourself on a call with Chan’s contact. The conversation went well—better than you had expected—and when you hung up, you immediately messaged Chan.
I got the interview! They want me to start next week if everything goes well!
His reply came almost instantly: I knew you’d be perfect for it. You’ve got this!
Sitting there, staring at the screen, you realized how much Chan had helped you—not just by finding the opportunity but by being the constant support you needed through all the uncertainty.
Later that night, you sat beside Chan again, feeling more at peace than you had in weeks. The two of you were watching a TV show together that had become your way to relax during times of stress and now it was the routine you shared.
"You really saved me, you know that?" you said quietly. He shook his head, giving you that soft, reassuring smile.
"Nah, you did all the hard work. I just gave you a little nudge." He winks at you and you smile, leaning your head on his shoulder.
"Well, thank you. For everything." Chan wrapped an arm around you, pulling you close.
"Anytime. You know I’ve got your back."

'Be better than me.'
The guilt laden words of a pitiful man ring in his ear. They always do around this time…
Vinay Soltani's birthday usually hits on or around Nowruz. Lately, he spends a lot of his time in silence, breeding grounds for looking back at his life and wondering how he went from bringing in the new year explosively with joy and family to feeling like all he can contribute to his existence is constant brainrot.
Every time he looks at his son, he imagines her standing behind him. They have the same eyes. It's the darkest, most midnight looking brown, and if you look closely enough, you can see the stars in their gazes.
With her in his life, Vinay felt vibrant, he felt like he meant something, he felt vindicated, like standing in her presence was the universe's confirmation that he was right to move to Houston and follow his heart despite his family's warnings. When she was gone, he was completely lost. It's as if his guiding light was extinguished, leaving him to be the guiding light for their son, and he knew he couldn't do it alone.
Arya knew it too.
Things inside the Soltani household were bare minimum and nothing else. As a kid, visiting his friends houses with their parents was always a completely different dynamic, and while he couldn't put words to it, it always made him reluctant to go back home. This unknown feeling that something had always been missing kept him up at night sometimes, guiding him to sneak into his father's bedroom and unlock his phone to find a completely different man in the camera roll. Someone who grinned from ear to ear at everything, who drunkenly ran through sprinklers with all of his friends, and was always laughing. He found photos of his dad kissing on a beautiful woman with eyes like his own.
Some days he got peeks of that joyous, loving man. The best way to get his dad to smile was with good grades, so nothing on this planet was more important than bringing home those report cards. His dad was always busy working during soccer games and track meets, but when he brought home trophies, the grin made it more than worth it. Arya didn't find out that his dad never graduated college until he told him he'd be attending Rice University in the fall and the man broke down in tears for the first time Arya had ever seen.
Kids tend to lash out when they're not getting the right attention by their parents, but Arya was a late bloomer. His anger came retrospectively, it came with understanding. All this time, Arya just felt tolerated. After seeing all those photos and listening in on the rare times his father would reminisce with friends, he'd been led to one single conclusion. Vinay's dark, sulking depression was all his fault. So he 'just tolerated' his father when he called to check up or came to visit him on campus. He graduated with honors and with resentment sewn into his heart. He was doing what his father would always tell him. 'Be better than me.'
His MBA wasn't just a degree, it was license to do everything his pitiful father came home after work every night and sat there wishing he'd done. Arya focused on his numbers, his impact, and his research. They were all the things that earned Arya a short lived smile from his father back then. The difference is that Vinay could only give short smiles. His professional life gives him promotions and salary renegotiations and suddenly he's made partner at such a young age.
Arya considers calling his father for his birthday. They'd only spoken every 4 or 5 months for the last 6 years. It's late, so he'll probably be asleep, but it's worth a try. When Vinay picks up, his voice is rough. He sounds like he's been crying. "Shaharyar. Son. We need to talk."
Just as he goes to agree, Arya feels his very existence being called on. The force so strong it nearly forces his body into auto pilot, muscle memory taking him somewhere he's never been before. "I… I have to go. Happy birthday, dad."

Meet Atlas Blake
Notes: This goes along with a series currently being written by @mayhemmanaged and @cassiemitchell!
Update 01/31/2024: This fic belongs to an alternative timeline of a fic that is currently being rewritten by the original authors. ATLAS’ CHARACTER IS MY OWN AND I REFUSE TO DELETE MY HARD WORK
INTRODUCING:
Atlas Blake aka Loki
“Atlas Blake!” I hear my name called, and I release the hand of my long time high school sweetheart, looking over and smiling at Bradley before walking up the stage to receive my Masters of Law Degree. I hear the loud screaming from Emory, Birdie, and Bradley. My ride or die, the people I would do anything for. I remember the day I met Emory vividly.
—
I had just finished getting a scumbag placed into Jail for a year, due to a domestic dispute. The poor girl looked better now, but the photos I saw as evidence had her looking pretty rough.
It was a few weeks later and I’m sitting in the coffee shop near campus, drinking on a Caramel Macchiato, and studying to pass the next exam in the class to then move on to the next BAR exam, for my Masters of Law. I was having a hard time focusing though, some guy was trying to entice a woman to get with him. I’m sure the words falling out of his mouth were more on the crude side than the actual complementing side.
When he started to lay hands on her, and I noticed her flinching, was when I had had enough of this guy’s tomfoolery. I slammed my book shut, closed my laptop gently, and strided over to the two of them. I grabbed the guy by the shoulder and pulled him around to face me. “Now I know I have heard this pretty lady here tell you no more than once, so listen here buddy, I know about a thousand and one or more ways to get you served with a restraining order. Once again the lady said no, so I suggest you get moving before I start drafting an order up. Do you hear me?!” I say powerfully through gritted teeth.
The poor excuse for a man mutters something about being a bitch, and I just laugh it off. It's not the first time I’d heard that, and as a woman going for throats in law, I for damn well know it won’t be the last time. I nodded to the woman, glad to finally have the peace and quiet restored to the coffee shop, and I turned to head back to my table.
“Hey wait a moment?” I hear her say, “You’re one of the people that was on my defense team.” When I finally and fully get a good look at her, I recognize her from the trial that I had just done and internship on. I nod back to her. “I’m Atlas Blake, most call me Blake though.” She reaches a hand out to me, “I’m Emory. I’m so grateful for you and your team, and what you guys pulled off for me.”
I take her hand in mine, shaking it. “I’m just disappointed they only gave him a year, we had him set up for quite a few actually. Anyways, I’m glad that guy isn’t bothering you anymore, I’m just going to head back over there” I say pointing to my stuff, “and continue studying. It was really nice to meet you.”
“Hey Blake, would you mind actually sitting over here with me? My friend Birdie is running a little behind, and I’d love it if you'd sit with me until she got here.” Emory said. I nodded, “Yeah, just let me gather up my stuff really quickly.” I packed up my table, threw away my wrapper from my snack earlier, and grabbed my coffee and made my way back over to Emory. I sat down with her, and we just started talking. Once her friend Birdie got there, she introduced us, and we all sat there together just chatting away. She mentioned they were in school to get their MBAs and I told them how I already had my Juris Doctor and was currently finishing school to finally get my Masters of Law. Something about the three of us just clicked, and from that day we were thick as thieves, you could hardly separate us.
—
Now that the semester was finally over, I was set to take up Co-Ownership of Cora’s with Emory and Birdie. I was also in the process of opening my own law firm. I wanted to now represent and fight for broken and battered women and children. If they can't have a voice for themselves, then I’ll become their voice, and so I did as such. Whenever someone came in asking for a pomegranate scone, that’s when I knew it was go time.
Bradley was now a Lieutenant with the Task force out of the Austin PD department. He had started to hear about these vigilantes taking down men before PD could even get to them. When he started to bring it up at home that’s when I knew they were going to be on our trail soon enough.
The following day while in The Underworld with Emory and Birdie, I had mentioned how Bradley had brought up the vigilantes. “Hey has Bob, or Jake brought anything up recently, Bradley’s been rambling on about the ‘Vigilantes’ in the area. Should I tell him? I mean it would be a good thing if he knows right? Y’know having a cop on our side in case things go left?” I say questioning Emory and Birdie.
“Well, I mean Bobby knows.” Birdie squeaks out just loud enough for the two of us to hear.
“EXCUSE ME?!” Emory all but comes unglued.
“Em, you KNOW I get a little looser-lipped after tequila and an orgasm or two.” Bridie says as Em, nods slightly tilting her head to the side.I scrub my face, at the obvious truth tumbling out of Birdie’s mouth.
“Jesus, yes I do. Thank fuck you’re already married and can claim spousal privilege though.” Em retorts back to Birdie.
“I think it’s about time I start drafting up NDAs and we have the guys sign them.” I say to the others.
“Oh Loki, you know Bobby won’t spill. I told him if he narced on us he’d be castrated on sight. So you know we are good there!” Birdie comments, and I chuckle at her ‘castrated on sight’ comment.
“I sure hope you’re right there Birdie, but unlike Bobby, Bradley ain’t all THAT scared of us. The man knows I love him and his dick too much to let anything of the sorts happen to it. Shit he knows I’d draft up an insurance policy for it!” The room filled with the laughter of the three of us, everyone knowing the truth in that statement.
—
Later that night, I’ve finally gotten the full NDA written up and printed out, and placed into a portfolio. It’s sitting on the coffee table, dinner is on the stove keeping warm, and I’m sitting on the couch with a glass of wine, watching tv until Bradley gets home. About 30 minutes later Bradley strolls in. “Attie, it smells so good in here!” I chuckle and get up to greet him, placing a tender kiss to his lips, as my arms snake around his neck. “I made your favorite dinner bubs.” He groans knowing that it’s my Grandma’s secret family recipe for Chicken and Dumplings.
We dug into dinner, Bradley apparently was too busy today to eat lunch, so he brought his appetite home. It was a really good thing I made his favorite, hopefully this will butter him up to not explode when I tell him the news that not only am I part of The Furies, I’m also actually one of the Fates.
“How was your day at work bubs?” I ask, trying to pry at what Bradley may know.
“Well we’ve heard more about this vigilante group, apparently they are called the Furies. But honestly I think whoever is in this must be some kind of maniac. The way we keep finding these men, but not the attackers. They are meticulous, doing very well from leaving any sort of DNA on scene. Definitely a thorough person or bunch.”
I chew on my lip listening to Bradley talk about work and the Furies while I clean up our dishes from dinner and he takes a spot on the couch, queueing up a movie for us to watch. He spots the portfolio laying on the coffee table. “Attie, is this something for work?” I finish the dishes and turn to see what he’s referring to.
“Oh uh, kind of but not really bubs.” I make my way over picking up the portfolio and setting it in my lap. “We uh, actually need to talk about this bubs.”
He lifts up his arm for me to snuggle into his side, and then wraps his strong arm around me, embracing me in his warmth. “Bubs, I think it’s time you sign these papers.”
He places a soft kiss on my temple before asking, “Are you finally going to marry me, and this is a prenup?” His eyes light up like a kid on Christmas for a moment.
I shake my head no to him, “Bubs, can you just sign them, and then we can talk about it?”
He looks at me bewildered, that I would even ask him to sign these papers blindly. “Attie, honey, I’m dating a Lawyer, I know the first thing to do is read this, ask questions and then sign it.”
“Bubs please. Just sign them. Plus you’re a cop. You know all about doing whatever you need to do to get the task done, to get what you want.” I quipped back to him.
He sighs, and skims the document, and then signs it. “Thank you bubs. I love you.” I take back the portfolio, before he can do anything else to it. “What you just signed was an NDA, because I have something really big to tell you bubs.” I can tell the nerves are written all over my face, I can feel my skin crawling.
“Attie Honey, no matter what you tell me, I’m still going to love you regardless.” He says trying to calm my nerves and rubs my arms softly.
I sigh, “Bubs, you promise you’ll still want to marry me eventually too?” I give him the puppy dog eyes that I know he can’t resist.
“Of course Honey, nothing would ever change that, you’re the woman of my dreams, my high school sweetheart, hopefully the mother to my children one day.” He places a tender kiss on my cheek.
“Bubs, the NDA is about me. I’m not only one of the Furies, I’m also a Fate. So is Emory, and Birdie. We could stand to see women and children being harmed, or battered, or neglected. And let’s be honest, we all know how long it takes PD to get anything done around there, you said it yourself last week, they were dragging their feet.” I rambled on, a little longer while Bradley just listened.
“Attie, who else knows?” was all that he questioned. “Bob, and now you do too. I plan to find out who else knows, or plans on telling their significant others and getting them the same NDA you just signed.”
He nods, “Attie, this doesn’t change a thing for us, the only thing I want more than anything now is that you marry me. That way should something happen to you, I get notified immediately, that I’m your next of kin, and you for me.” He says holding me tightly.
I nod, “Of course I’ll marry you Bradley, whenever you want. Buuut first…" I trail off, and he finished where I left off, “I have to sign the damn prenup.” We both chuckle before agreeing to head to bed for the night.

Key Points
This report estimates return on investment (ROI) — how much college increases lifetime earnings, minus the costs of college — for 53,000 different degree and certificate programs.
Bachelor’s degree programs have a median ROI of $160,000, but the payoff varies by field of study. Engineering, computer science, nursing, and economics degrees have the highest ROI.
Associate degree and certificate programs have variable ROI, depending on the field of study. Two-year degrees in liberal arts have no ROI, while certificates in the technical trades have a higher payoff than the typical bachelor’s degree.
Nearly half of master’s degree programs leave students financially worse off. However, professional degrees in law, medicine, and dentistry are extremely lucrative.
Around a third of federal Pell Grant and student loan funding pays for programs that do not provide students with a return on investment.
Executive Summary
In recent years, young Americans have expressed more skepticism about the financial value of higher education. While prospective students often ask themselves if college is worth it, this report shows the more important question is when college is worth it.
This report presents estimates of return on investment (ROI) for 53,000 degree and certificate programs ranging from trade schools to medical schools and everything in between. I define ROI as the increase in lifetime earnings that a student can expect when they enroll in a certain degree program, minus the costs of tuition and fees, books and supplies, and lost earnings while enrolled. My preferred measure of ROI accounts for the risk that some students will not finish their programs.
This report updates FREOPP’s previous research on ROI, utilizing new data from the U.S. Department of Education’s College Scorecard.
The findings show that college is worth it more often than not, but there are key exceptions. ROI for the median bachelor’s degree is $160,000, but that median belies a wide range of outcomes for individual programs. Bachelor’s degrees in engineering, computer science, nursing, and economics tend to have a payoff of $500,000 or more. Other majors, including fine arts, education, English, and psychology, usually have a smaller payoff — or none at all.
Alternatives to the traditional four-year degree produce varied results. Undergraduate certificates in the technical trades tend to have a stronger ROI than the median bachelor’s degree. However, many other subbaccalaureate credentials — including associate degrees in liberal arts or general education — have no payoff at all. Field of study is the paramount consideration at both the baccalaureate and subbaccalaureate levels.
The ROI of graduate school is also mixed. Professional degrees in law, medicine, and dentistry tend to have a strong payoff, often in excess of $1 million. However, nearly half of master’s degree programs have no ROI, thanks to their high costs and often-modest earnings benefits. Even the MBA, one of America’s most popular master’s degrees, frequently has a low or negative payoff.
The report introduces a new metric — the mobility index — to quantify the aggregate financial impact of each degree or certificate program. The mobility index multiplies each program’s ROI by the number of students it enrolls, thus rewarding programs for both financial value and inclusivity. Bachelor’s degrees in nursing and business administration dominate the top ranks of the mobility index.
Finally, the report estimates how much federal government funding flows to programs that leave students with no ROI. Around 29 percent of federal Pell Grant and student loan dollars over the last five years were used at programs that leave students with a negative ROI. The results point to a role for federal policymakers in improving the ROI of higher education.
While ROI should not be the only consideration for students approaching the college decision, the ROI estimates presented in this report can help students and their families make better choices regarding higher education. The estimates may also be of interest to other stakeholders, including policymakers, researchers, journalists, and institutions.
The full ROI estimates for undergraduate programs are available here. The full ROI estimates for graduate programs are available here.

The article includes an interactive graph which allows you to choose from various majors and find the ROI. Some samples.
Controversial opinion: While there may be an argument to waiving or subsidizing college loans for courses that strongly benefit society, no program with a negative ROI should ever be given loan forgiveness or federal funding.
If you want to study Ancient Mesopotamian Interpretive Dance - or even more uselessly, Gender Studies - for your own pleasure and enjoyment, that's your business. And your financial responsibility; the bill for that resides with you. As far as society and our tax dollars are concerned, forgiving that loan or funding that course is just setting fire to money.
Reminder that you may be better off at a trade school. Courses are often shorter, more targeted and cheaper, so you end up working quicker, earning money more rapidly and have a lower debt that's paid off sooner.
